Here is what I am currently running
The phone is currently rooted.
GM-G900V
Android Version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: G900VVRU1ANI2
Kernal Version: 3.4.0
Build Number: OptimalROM R12-6
I want to upgrade to MM and install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-ressurrection-remix-mm-t3275340
I also want to upgrade my kernal.
When everything is said and done, I of course want to be rooted.
Now I cant seem to find answers anywhere. I love this site, but finding a helpful guide is painful. So many different version of threads. I found several threads where people were asking the same thing but there were no good answers. So I imagine this could help others too.
If someone could tell me exactly what I need to do to upgrade to MM and get this new ROM installed, I would be insanely grateful.

Hi skoad
You have a Verizon and, as so, you may first start by reading the below:
[GUIDE] Unlocking the Galaxys S5 Bootloader using DEV Bootloader [KK-MM]
As soon as you find yourself comfortable, you will need first update your Bootloader (mentioned above) and Modem partitions. To do so you should flash a Sammobile firmware using Odin.
These are the firmwares available for you but only the first one is Marshmallow and your aim.
You may follow these general instructions obviously regarding your device data.
The Kernel update will be done by the ROM you are focusing to install and it will be rooted already.
Let us know how it performed with Stock.
Cheers.
.
Thanks a ton. I am pretty busy this weekend but will be giving this a shot Monday and will report back. What youve provided seems very helpful and straightforward, just what I was hoping for!

Hey guys.
First of all, I've been searching around pretty much, and I have found threads about my problem, but nothing that really been exactly what i've been looking for. The reason I'm making my own thread is just because i really don't wanna screw anything up.
SO..
Model: SM-N9005
Current Android version: 4.3
Base band: N9005XXUDMK2
Current Rom: HAWKISH ELITE SERIE
SELinux-status: Enforcing, SEPF_SM-N900_4.3_0021
What I want is to get back to stock, safely, and update my Galaxy Note to the latest official firmware available. And after that, root it if it's possible. But I mainly just want to get back to stock, and update it to the latest original Samsung android version.
If my situation has been solved in another thread, please link me to it cuz I can't find it. Thanks guys!
I must be terribly impatient or not understanding what I'm doing, probably both actually but I cannot for the life of me find a working method for loading a custom rom on my phone. Could someone PLEASE point me to a resource that will work for my phone? Info provided below:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Provider: Verizon wireless - USA
Quoted info from settings > About Phone:
Model number: SM-N900V
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: N900VVRUCNC4
Kernel version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 MON April 28 16:42:37 KST 2014
Build number: KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC4
Hardware version: N900V.07
Security software version: MDF v1.0 release 2
I have root access thanks to towelroot
I have supersu as well. Every guide I've found for different rooms has been busy. I've only tried safestrap methods because I know I can switch back to the stock rom slot and have a working phone again. Im weary of methods that wipe out the stock rom as I really don't want to end up with an unbootable brick.
Ive tried cyanogenmod, and a TouchWiz room who name I can't think of at them moment. Both roms simply booted to a black/blank screen.
I really like the simplicity of cyanogenmod and it is my preference but I'm open to others. Can anyone please advise me on my options please, I've about reached my words end here. Why must these companies make it so hard to make the devices we pay hundreds of dollars look/act/be the way WE want them to be as the now owning consumer?!?
Thank you for your time, help, and guidance, I have nothing but respect for all the developers in this community, wish I understood the system better so I could be of more help as well.

Do we need NC 2 and how would we install it?

I'm in a similar sitch. I have rooted my phone after the NC4 assault using towelroot. Note to those who plan to use it: there are some hijacks out there. Don't go to towelroot.net for example. I have downloaded a couple of safestrap apk files and have been reading up on how to install safestrap. Once installed, then what? I think I need to install the NC 2 kernel but how? What's a kernel anyway? How is flashing a kernel different from flashing a rom? How is an android kernel different from a linux kernel? I can't see a way to run linux commands anyway...
Hi guys! There's a ton of guides on the forums that answer your questions. If you need help you are best of posting the exact steps you took up to that point and at what point you are stuck. Wikipedia also has a ton of information on the basic computer science stuff (what's a kernel? etc...)
Good luck
Phone:
SM-G900V
Android 5.0
Baseband G900VVRU1BOC4
Kernel 3.4
Build BOC4 also
Hi, Ive had my Verizon GS5 for about a year now, and I just installed 5.0 Lolipop, and I hate it.. I want to root my phone and go back to KitKat.. Ive been reading through the forum and all the guides seem to be for BAC4 or something else.. I don't see anything that is explaining what to do for BOC4..
The one guide I was looking at was this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-downgrade-lollipop-5-0-to-kitkat-t3088571
Where someone in post #3 asks if it will work for BOC4, and it was stated to NCG retail stock instead of step 1.. If I download that instead of step 1, is everything else in the guide exactly the same? Im semi lost.. Im pretty noob to this, though I did root my GS3 which I found pretty easy to do..
Also if this is the wrong guide or if there is an easier guide to follow can someone link me to the steps I need?
I also read somewhere else about d/l superuser 1st? And it will not trip the knox counter?
Also do I need to backup all my phone settings and stuff before I start this whole process? And how do I go about that?
Thanks
**Edit: Is there also a way to backup all my setting like handcent and stuff so that I don't have to reconfigure all my font settings and colors and backrounds and so on?
Ok so I backup up my phone with Samsung kies, just hoping someone can point me to the proper guide to go from 5.0 BOC4 to Rooted Kit Kat
Thanks
Ok sorry for multiple replies here.. But Ive seemed to get myself now onto
Android : 4.4.2
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANCG
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
I haven't gotten any feedback here so far, but maybe from this point someone can tell me how to root and get to 4.44 from here???
Please and thanks
you could try this thread for what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
sorry if i can't remember which firmware after NCG leads to 4.4.4
Thanks for the reply.. I am really lost at the moment..
So after I got my phone to this point:
Android : 4.4.2
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANCG
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
I then d/l towelroot and made it rain. It seemed to work.. From there I then flashed (I think) the NI2 Firmware only kenrnel.tar file..
*EDIT
So now my phone says
Android: 4.4.2
Baseband :G900VVRU1ANI2
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
Is this right? My baseband is NI2 and Build is NCG???? Im lost?
I then downloaded a root checker from the play store and ran it, and it said my phone was rooted.. I finally now was able to run SuperSu Pro, and it asked about updating binaries, and i clicked "normal", it then asked me the Knox detect, and I said disable..
So how do I get to 4.4.4 from here? And Im assuming im fully rooted?
I can see that nobody wants to help a noob at this, but it would really be great if someone can tell me where to go from here?
Please and Thanks
Hello all,
My first post and my first galaxy s5! I just got my s5 (unlocked, used) and am already tired of all the verizon stuff that I can't or don't want to use. I looked into rooting it and it seems like I will be able to. But now I started looking into adding a new rom and am very confused. (So confused I don't know where to start) In the forums here I have read some cool stuff but also they use a lot of abbreviations for programs and such that I am not familiar with. Anyway, I have read references to "Slots", what are those and how do I make them? It seems like it would be useful and maybe help me not brick my phone.
How can I tell which roms I can flash (correct term?) to my phone? If I have an older build, can I add a newer build and do I want to? (I've read that the latest builds make the phone non rootable)
I know, a lot of questions. Please point me in the right direction.
Below is my phone info:
Samsung SM-G900V
Android 5.0
Baseband version G900VVRU1B0C4
Kernal 3.4.0
Build # LRX21T.G900VVRU1B0C4
Hardware version G900V.05
Anything else?
All your help is greatly appreciated.
Don't update the phone! As long as you are below oe1 (you are) you can still downgrade and root. Then install safestrap (where the slots come in) but most people use the stock slot. You can flash roms on that slot. Check the catchall thread for specifics.
Ok,
I will try to root it. then get back to you guys.
Thanks
Ok,
So after an interesting and sometimes frustrating night of downloading and flashing, my phone is rooted and now is android 4.4.2 with a build of KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG. I guess the next step is finding and installing safestrap? (Final goal would be to flash a non verizon rom with no bloatware and all the desired functions of my phone available.)
Thanks.
There's a safestrap thread in android development section. There was a revised build that was uploaded that you should use
Thank you, I will look it up.
I have since uploaded rooted 5.0 using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784 .
Now, safestrap and custom rom. Thanks all!
Hi all,
I am now on 15-4 and moving to 15-5. I was wondering, is there a "visual voicemail" type app that would work for a non verizon account?
Ok so here's my dilemma:
I have searched and searched for about 4 straight days on what to do and can't seem to pinpoint the procedure I need to enforce. This is my first posting by the way, and I'm kind of a noob to all of this stuff, but extremely intrigued by it all, that I can't seem to put my phone or laptop away as long as I have the free time to do more research.
I just recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S5 variant G900F (was extremely excited that it was a success on my first try!). I just purchased this device in July (and it came unlocked as far as to using whichever carrier I wanted). Now, what I'm looking to do is update my firmware (from what I've gathered, I believe I need to do that in order to install a custom ROM? If I'm wrong, please correct me). So my device information is as follows:
MODEL: SM-G900F
PRODUCT NAME: kltexx
PRODUCT CODE: SM-G900FZWAMRU
PDA: G900FXXS1CQD8
CSC: G900FOJP1CQB1
BASEBAND: G900FXXU1CQB1
BOOTLOADER: G900FXXS1CQD8
BUILDNUMBER: MMB29M.G900FXXS1CQD8
ANDROID VERSION: 6.0.1
KERNEL VERSION: 3.4.0-10662519
GPU: Qualcomm Adreno (TM) 330
MODEM: MSM8974PRO
I don't know what other information someone would need in order to help point me in the right direction of what I need to do, but it would be greatly appreciated! If you need any other information, let me know! I can't seem to tell which region this device is typically set up for (as I said, I'm a noob) so if someone can explain that a little, that would be wonderful too. Thank you so much!!

Hi,
Your case seems to be llike somebody comes to a shop asking the shop assistant: "I want to buy something but I don't know what"
But now to be serious - in order to help you, you need to specify what you really want to achieve because from what you wrote I am not sure.
You have SM-G900F phone with latest MM 6.0.1 firmware for Mauritus (MRU) region. So you should be good to go.
If you just want to play with your phone, then OK but you should be aware that when you root your phone or flash any of the custom firmware you will loose your warranty. You wrote that you are rooted already so that is it -> KNOX flag is set 0x1. But if you bought a used phone then you should bother too much with that (warranty doesn't matter).
To flash any of the compatible custom roms you usually need a custom recovery (for example TWRP) and you are free to flash custom roms (following OP instructions of course).
That's it for the beginning

Thank you! Well my initial goal was to install a custom rom but couldn't seem to find one that included my build number, so was a little confused. There's many to choose from, but I can't just download any of them. Or does a specified build number not convenient?
I have the TWRP downloaded, for some reason I thought I needed to update my firmware since I didn't see it anywhere as far as roms went. I'm mostly experimenting right now. I looked into rooting for 4 months before I finally did it. And now I'm overwhelmed with excitement of all the things I can do, that I don't know where to start! So I thought a different ROM would be a good start. I really enjoy customizing my phone and making it as unique as possible, any suggestions as far as which ROM I can do?

Well, now I know a little bit more. You are on the latest stock rom foreseen for your region. So you are good to go for any customization. To flash a custom rom you need a custom recovery. when you are already rooted the easiest way is to install TWRP app from the Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
and flash the recovery.
Before flashing any custom rom it is highly recommended to do nandroid backup from TWRP (backup of all important partitions of your phone).
Then you can try a custom rom. Check this subforum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development
or this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development
and find a rom of your choice. Read carefully the OP (compatibility, features, issues) and decide.
You might start with LineageOS based on android 7.X Nougat. But be aware that custom roms might have some bugs and are based on pure android sources so they will give you pure android experience. Some might love it but some are disappointed
