Been testing my stock G2 with Quantant and noticed that its been really slow. I use to get 1500-1600, now 1000.
Anyone know how I can see is using all my resources?
Best way to clean up the G2?

Wipe it and see if it helps.
Quadrant is very inacurate. I wouldn't trust it.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
does it feel slow in day to day use? if not then I wouldnt worry what quadrant tells you.
I have read in another thread somewhere in the forums that many people are getting lower scores in Quadrant since the recent update to the application.
Before the update, I scored in the 2200 range (running @ 1.5/performance). I just ran Quadrant now, with the same settings and scored 1600...
The device is running the same, its just some tweaks with Quadrant that are delivering the lower scores. Unless the phone is lagging or having problems, I wouldn't worry about it.
The only thing I have noticed over the last 3 months since I have been using my G2 is the time to load the "Gallery" seems to take much longer.
Sometimes it loads right up, sometimes it loads up showing the placeholders, and other times (more often then not now) it opens up the "Gallery" to a blank/yellow background, then just hangs there for up to about a minute or so without showing anything and then either crashes or finally opens/shows the pictures/gallery.
Throw CM7 on there and crank that ***** up to 11. I OC'd to 1.5 and got a 2500 quadrant last night. I am perfectly happy OC'd to about 1.1 though, so no need to risk damage to the CPU by leaving it OC'd so high.
When I am in landscape mode with keyboard open...then close the keyboard and make it portrait, the home icons don't show up until 10-15 seconds later. Anyone know why? Otherwise, it seems ok in speed except for this switching from landscape to portrait and the icon shortcuts are not there.

Oh yeah that's no good...... have you tried different ROMs?

I'm still on the stock rom. I'm actually pretty happy with the stock rom, except for this problem.

I have the same issue. I'm so used to seeing it that I forgot it was a "bug" :-/.
Running stock btw.
well im glad im not the only one with the landscape to portrait switching lag... but I wish someone can help in finding what is causing this....anyone?
There are two other posts on this - no one has any solution.
I have that problem as well using stock launcher.
But many people use launcher pro, or ADW, with those launchers you do not get this problem. I'm guessing the majority of people on XDA use a non-stock launcher so this problem doesn't really get any attention.
I don't know if it's Launcher Pros fault or not, but after I installed it my phone started shutting down randomly. Reflashed and restored using TB and it's still doing the same thing with it uninstalled...
Same problem here. With the Gallery lag thingy too. And now all HQ or HD videos on youtube epically fail when playing. I uninstalled and reinstalled youtube but the same keeps happening...very annoying :/ I heart my G2 idk what happened. I don't have many apps that would make the phone lag or have video problems (yes I just checked...even gallery videos are choppy)

Many people have offered using Launcher Pro instead of TW for a fix to the lag issues. Personally, I experience terrible lag when using Launcher Pro and only moderate lag when running TW. I have tried this under a variety of different wiget, homescreen, and application configurations.
Any perceivable reason for this? I would prefer to use Launcher Pro...but the lag is so bad that I have to give up. TIA
That's really odd man. I can attest that my phone flies with LP (and TW is rarely feels laggy to me).
I'm starting to wonder if a lot if people talking about lag just have an app(s) that are ready poorly done and the cause of issues. I think it's easier to blame an app than assume an issue with the phone you know?
Random, but how many apps do you have you think installed? Any that you question? Using a task killer?
i can also say that LP has made my phone virtually lag free. I was hesitant to try it out but glad i did!
I havent experienced any lag yet since I got this phone on launch... Maybe I keep my system clean too much coming from a n1 with hardly any App storage space.
I dont see most bugs people post... Im either lucky or less picky.. Maybe both.
Been using LP since the first day I got my Vibrant. There's no lag whatsoever on my phone.
Factory reset.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
Yeah, I would try resetting your phone. As others have said.... no lag here.
Or do the method that moves your apps to make the phone faster. Look for the thread on vibrant lag or vibrant stutter.
Sent from my Vibrant
I have reset the phone, downloaded roughly 75 apps, no task manager.
This thing still struggles when running LP, but it is better on TW. I'm baffled.
try ADW Launcher?
there are settings in LP that will make the icons appear faster or slower. I have mine set at a 4 because I like to watch them fly onto the screen. try setting yours to 10 it should eliminate the animation and potentially your lag.
I havent had any issues with LP. I didnt really have any with TW either but now that I'm running LP the phone has a little more snap.
After resetting and reinstalling, you say issue is still present. Like my earlier post, I'm calling acrappy deigned app.
I run adw and experience no lag from what I can tell.
Feeling Vibrant on xda-app
I think it was an app issue. Bought a task kilter from the market and kill everything but my eidos when the screen turns off and the issue has stooped.

Be careful with stuff that you're installing. With that many apps, you're bound to find a couple that either A) didn't get installed properly or B) are poorly designed and cause problems.
You shouldn't need a task killer as your phone is designed to multitask and take care of things you aren't using, but glad you got it figured out!
I find it concerning that I need a task killer to get it to run smoothly. From what I can tell all my apps are are legit. How would one go about troubleshooting a potentially harmful app?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
for me TW and ADW were very laggy and LP was super fast with option to keep it in memory, that was before RESET. After reset, I havent tried others, but I dont even need to keep in memory, its still very fast. I am using Autokiller as a task manager....
Some users experienced lag issues on launcher pro and the support forums at the official site suggested not using live wallpapers. So if you are using one disable it and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Not using a live wallpaper. I also don't keep LP "in memory". Should I?
Hi guys,
I'm a proud new owner of a G2 and have had my head in it for the past week installing and exploring what's available.
Thing is I've installed a fair about of apps (perhaps around 50?) and have three home screens more or less full up.
I'm not sure if it has something to do with how many apps I have but when returning to the home screen from a locked screen or sometimes coming out of an app the apps on the home screen take a second or so to appear.
This even happens when I have my phone running at 1.4GHz whilst it is plugged in..
I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this and found a way around it!
Perhaps I should consider the CM build?
Much appreciated!
It would be helpful to know what launcher you're using.
If you haven't tried already, get launcher pro. If you have that try keeping it in memory.
To be honest though I have not run into this on the G2 like I had with my G1.

Flash enabled though.
It has something to do with the fact that the Hummingbird SoC is not optimized for flash acceleration.
Someone post a video scrolling around Android central zoomed out like that with Flash disabled so we can tell how much of that lag is actually caused by Flash.
I went to both anandtech.com and androidcentral.com to try to replicate the issues witnessed in those videos.
No problems whatsoever. Scrolling is fine, even when not zoomed in. Pinch-to-zoom is fast. Flash is enabled.

Not fine like that, no.
SADLY: the LAG in the browser is indeed there - and it shows up only after you have installed a decent number of apps (i have 67).
This is EXACTLY how it was on the SGS until Samsung released a fix.
Out of the box, it hardly lags - but as soon as i install some apps the lag starts. not always, but it is there.
shame.

Seriously?
YES i complain about lad with 67apps installed where my droid X has 100apps and there is zero lag.
My Nexus one has 110apps and there was no lag.
Solution:
Stick with Droid X or Nexus One. I use my phone heavily for work (2 Exchange accounts used all the time, 1 GMail) and I develop Android apps and have never had the need for more than 20-25 apps. Out of those 67, 30-40 can be useful tops, but 67, no way jose
Web browsing is smooth and fast. I think I like this phone better than the Vibrant. So far so good, no issue.
My mytouch 4g was definitely smoother when it comes to scrolling. It also automatically re-wrapped the text when I used pinch to zoom. With the nexus s it only re-wrapps text when I use the zoom control buttoms on the display.

I think lag is caused by using more app in the background. It will be very smooth but if u open like 10 apps or so you will get some lag. So try to test it with and without that many apps running ...

Browser is not at all improved from my Nexus One. EXTREMELY disappointed and the main reason why I will probably return this phone within the 30 days.
what i noticed is that flash (mostly ads) is causing the lag on my phone. i dont need flash all of the time so it went into the browser settings>enable plugins> and set it to on demand. that way flash isnt loading all of the time, only when i click on a certain flash element that i want to watch. makes pages load faster and probably saves battery too.
I bought one. I love it. Do not want Ipad, I want to stay with Android and will.
However - the scrolling is not smooth, there is no denying that. Is there a way to fix this?
I remember when I first got my Evo I had to root and put in a kernel that increased FPS. Is there an option for that yet?
Thanks.
My scrolling is smooth - i am overclocked, have been since the first 5 minutes of taking it out of the box.
I thought that I read we didn't have a cap on the FPS.
Use a new launcher like launcher pro
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Ok. I'll try the LauncherPro when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion.
Did you get some choppiness before you switched launchers? Or before you OCed?
The stock launcher is very laggy... if you use launcher pro you can set how fast the menus open. Get spare parts out of the market and you can configure how fast either things open too

The stock launcher is perfect. Really no need for a new launcher. I did experience some lagging but have to say that once I overclocked my XOOM it runs smooth as butter.

ok.
I'll report back.
This is going to sound really stupid, but make sure it's right side up, in landscape orientation.
All other orientations are far less smooth (on the homescreen at least). Even 180 degree landscape is horrible. Only the standard orientation, with the Motorola logo in the top left, works well.

Mine lags abit, so i take it I will have to root the xoom ? for increasing cpu?
Yes, you will need to root the Xoom. You can get the one-click root over on the Development side of this forum.
That is just retarded... in order to have my xoom running smooth and how it should, I have to root. Does that make sense to anyone.
This is not exceptable... FAIL
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
The only time I found it not running smooth(before I rooted) is if i dragged my finger across the screen to scroll. If i just tapped the side, it was crisp.
Xoom or Doom!!!!
i guess it is all comes down to personal preference. cuz my Xoom is pretty smooth and i am running stock. i don't think anyone has a Super Xoom or a Doom Xoom. it is the same hardware, just that some people see fast different. get a thunderbolt if you wanna be super fast. or take the risk and overclok (something i'll never do), cuz there is obviously a risk factor to it. low battery for one, i won't be trading battery power for speed anytime soon. and then you xoom might not have a long life. it might be fast now, but we all watch nascar and see what happens when you go too fast, you CRASH!!!!. and within a year you could end you with a Doom Xoom. (dead Xoom).
cuz if this thing was safe to be overclock, i have said in other thread, uncle Moto would have been the one to do it, and would have brag and claim that they have the fastest tablet on the market @ 1.5Ghz. we all know it can be push even further. but with the cons, i won;t take my chances. i don;t need the nano second it will take to load an app, am fine with the extra second it will take me to load a web page. and scrolling is normal as it has been since i got mine. plus others have tried launcher pro and experience better. but do what you feel, just don;t come back crying foul about how you tablet didn;t last, and try to blame motorola for your fault.
How high are y'all overclocking? Hows the battery life?

If this is the 2nd update, then yes I am noticing some lag. Especially when doing things like you mention which totally frustrates me 'cause it was these types of activities that got so much better with the 3.1 upgrade... at least for me. Smoother swipes between home screen, moving widgets and a few others... sigh
Oh well, just hoping 3.2 will fix these. Asus is getting it this week, please Acer keep up with the Jones on this stuff!
Mine got it a few days ago. During the 2nd reboot, it was stuck with the screen backlight on, but nothing showing up. I had to force it off, then back on. I did get the "update was successful" message after unlocking it. Since then, it seems to be a little slower, especially with screen draws. It still plays videos fine, but the more apps I have open, the slower it changes screens, for example.
I noticed mine was laggy after the update... I thought maybe I installed something that was eating up the CPU, but I think it was probably the update that did it.
It's not horrible, just annoying.
