Cannot flash ClockworkMod recovery - EVO 4G General

I'm getting an error "An error occurred while flashing your recovery." when I try to apply ClockworkMod recovery 2.6.0.1. No problems applying AR 2.2.1 or CWM 3.0.0.5.
Any ideas?
Already tried factory restore (wipe) and 2 different ROMs.

the 2.6.0.1 is the current recovery. This one backs up your wimax keys.

I know 2.6.0.1 is current. That's why I want to flash it.

I'm assuming you are trying to flash through ROM Manager? Never worked for me either. I flashed mine through fastboot, you just need to find the .img for 2.6.0.1. A google search should help.

Just download rom manager from the market. You can flash it from there.

I'm pretty sure that's what he's doing when he encounters the error.

Yes, trying from manager and getting that error. Where can I find the IMG file? Right now I have CWM 3.0.0.5. Should I go back to 2.6.0.1?

Koush posted this last month explaining why this is an issue... it's gonna grow until others follow suit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897026
Thread has link to all CM issue
CM updated to 3.0xx yesterday and is not supporting older versions - you can still find them, just will lose support

i noticed this the other day but then yesterday i had to restore to stock (i made a back up right after i rooted so i can always go back to the beginning) and when i reinstalled rom manager from the market the older recoveries where on there and i got it flash back to 2.5.7.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I updated my Clockworkmod Recovery today and I am now unable to restore it to the 2.6.0.1 version I had been running. I've searched the forum and found numerous .zip files and .img files but they are either broken or I am not going through the flashing process correctly. I followed the directions posted alongside the files but still cannot fix this. Could anyone help?

Failed to verify whole-file signiture

Hi all, I screwed up running an update to my ROM, recovered through Odin (again ha), flashed back to stock, rooted successfully, and installed Clockwork, but whenever I try flashing my ROM through ROM Manager, the phone reboots right, then gives me the "E: failed to verify whole-file signiture E: Signiture verification failed"
I just want to get back on BlackHole :\ I searched around but either people figured it out and didnt explain, or the problems variables were too far apart from mine. I have tried removing and reinstalling clockwork, and I have tried redoing the entire process to the same result.
Any insight?
I want to add that I'm not flashing Clockwork through Odin, because the files aren't available on the forum anymore. Is this the error?
You need to flash the cwrecovery.tar file, which enables you to flash zips signed with test keys. Look in the thread about flashing clockwork on win/*nix.

You're doing it right, just missing one step. Installing clockwork mod through rom manager only downloads the update.zip file for it to your sdcard, you have to flash the cwm compatible stock recovery through odin. the file can be found here:
www.androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3/CWMrecovery.tar

Excellent, I figured as much but since I couldn't find it anywhere I assumed it had been changed.
BEAUTIFUL. Thank you. Looking forward to running your 3.0. I was on 1.4 or something.

I *CANNOT* boot into ClockWork recovery!

I am on a rooted Samsung Vibrant running Froyo and CWM 2.5.1.2. I cannot boot into CWM's recovery. I tried flashing CWM again and again, but I didn't work. I tried reinstalling packages at least 5 times and nothing. I just boot into the normal recovery. It worked the very first time I tried it, right after I rooted it and I installed CWM for the first time, then I had to reinstall packages twice. I used super-one-click to root my phone. I am using the latest version of busybox. I have given ROM Manager superuser access. I reinstalled ROM Managed. I deleted the clockworkmod folder and update.zip and installed CWM again. I have tried re-rooting twice with no success. What's the problem? It worked the very first time I rooted. But why not now?
I have this happen from time to time with ROM Manager....I just go clear down to the bottom and install an older version...say 2.5.1.1, hit reboot into recovery and it does, and then I update back to 2.5.1.2 and it will work after that on the newer version

Sorry, that didn't work.
Opps didnt see the Froyo..you need a modded 3e recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Yea you have to use the "froyo" version, but you will also need to delete slacker radio from your phone via titanium first. That is the only way it would work for me.

Sorry, that didn't work either. Should I just restore to the stock 2.2 on my Vibrant? If so, where would I get the Stock 2.2 Vibrant files?
How do you feel abt voodoo?? You can install one of Supercurios kernels with voodoo and it will give you CWM recovery and root

Damn...Im still half asleep.....I re-read your post...the update.zip has to stay on your internal sd... I saw you deleted it which is why CWM isn't working. ROM Manager adds to that file when installing CWM Recovery.

It is in my internal SD. It's at /update.zip It added that every time I downloaded CWM. Should I Odin back to the stock 2.2?
You can.. that way you start out fresh and eliminate the chances for errors

Sorry, I'm a noob to the Android scene, How would I restore to Stock 2.2 for Vibrant? Is there a guide or tutorial?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
When you ran the script to get the recovery to 2e, did you put the phone into shell root first using super one click?
Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400
I am having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THIS GUY. And it's really frustrating, I have been working at getting this ****ing phone updated to some version of 2.2 for about 5 hours now.
Just had to say that.
you on 2.1?
UPDATE:
I flashed 2.1.1.0 clockwork... whichever one was at the bottom of the list. AND I uninstalled Slacker Radio (dont know if that helped it for sure)
But After reinstalling the packages, then booting to recovery with the volume buttons down, I reinstalled package AGAIN and then CLOCKWORK INSTALLED OR WHATEVER! So now I'm flashing a new rom from it! thanks!

I ve had to downgrade ROM manager before also...so you might be ok to move back to 2.5.1.1 after your flash
Also, earlier today I did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
So that may be part of his issue.
Clockwork seems to be hanging on installing my ROM right now...
is it normal for the progress bar to not move once it hits "Formatting DATA:..." ?
yea as long as it keeps saying Formatting, Copying, deleting...it will move if it flashes good..

When you did this where you on 2.2 (kA6) or 2.1 (JI6)?
im asking because im on 2.2 but for the life of me i havent been able to get clockwork to run. ive done almost every single step there is out there and have had no luck, but im thinking that my phone is HW locked so that may be my problem.
i can flash any stock rom through odin (JFD) (JI6)
and (KA6) through kies mini
but i cant get into clockwork recovery in any of those rom's.

Cant Boot into Clockwork with 2.2

So I installed Rom manager and then flashed clockwork. But when I reboot and try to reinstall the packages its gives me errors and the aborts the install...any ideas anybody?
I'm in the same boat. I installed the update via ODIN. I had clockwork installed prior to the update and even tried your same method of rebooting into recovery and reinstall the packages after CWM said I had the latest already installed. (and even flashed again within app)
Running recovery stock 3e.
Looks like the answer is within this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925400
And also other threads mentioning the modified 3e recovery.

[Q] Fascinate Clockworkmod recovery Help?

Ok, so I rooted my fascinate using super one click root, and everything worked fine. Then I downloaded ROM manager, and went through the setup, selecting Flash ClockworkmMod Recovery as the first step. It says it was successfully flashed, and is showing ClockworkMod 2.5.1.0. The problem is, when I reboot into recovery to do a system backup, It pops up and says "Install from package." Then it trys to install an update, but it's gives me an error and says "failed to verify whole-file signature... installation aborted, and does not give me a backup option. I have tried several times, and can't get it to work right. I'm trying to get it backed up so I can install a ROM. What steps might I be overlooking, and what should I try next?
Thanks,
Anthony
You need to flash CWM with Odin first. See here or here, depending on what version you're on
Check your main area of ur sdcard for the update.zip. If that is there. It may have not downloaded correctly. Another way to get cwm recovery is by flashing it through odin. I did a complete odin restore to stock DL09 this morning. Then flashed the new cwm recovery through odin. Then I installed the proper superuser/busybox zip. Once that was done. I booted up to make sure everything was good. Then, I flashed the new DL30 froyo leak. Everything went perfect. Love having froyo finally! There r a few good threads in the development area.

The update.zip was in the root of my SD card, but it was not installing when I booted into recovery mode. I'm reading through the threads now, trying to figure out how to flash odin.
Ok, I just flashed clockwork with odin, and the phone rebooted. So I'm gonna fire it back up and see what kind of progress we've made.
What are you on? DL09, DJ05, or DI01?
Looks like it worked perfectly. Allowed me full access to the backup and recovery options with no errors. Thanks for all the help. Another step closer to getting off the stock kernel and ROM.

It's on DL09.
Nevermind. I figured that part out. It's backing up now, so it looks like everything is working so far. Got DL09 Superclean running. Thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I have a similar issue where after rooting and installing clockwork mod through odin, when I try to flash clockworkmod recovery from rom manager I keep getting "An error occurred while downloading your recovery"
I see that there is no update.zip on my sd card. What can I do to resolve this?

ClockworkMOD now works with 3E recovery?

EDIT: This is not a result of ROM Manager, this is a result of installing Overstock 1.4.3 which also installs CWM recovery.
Not trying to be rude or anything, but I don't remember this ever not working.
I am having issues with 3e. No matter how carefully I follow the instructions (flash->reboot->reinstall packages always fails) when flashing recovery from current Rom Manager and Premium License, it does not work. Additionally, the premium license is persistent in my applications list and no premium ROMs ever show up in my download list. Even when I select Vibrant MTB and either 2.x or 3.x, all I get is a message that states current recovery will be used. I'm still going thru posts for a possible solution.
Try putting this in the root of your internal SD, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice.
Yeah, I was misinformed. This is not a result of ROM Manager, this is a result of installing Overstock 1.4.3 which also installs CWM recovery.
If anyone want to do this it is really simple with the SGS kernel flasher app. Download your overstock kernel of choice from here or your choice of kernel that includes CWM from the dev bible, unzip it, move the zimage to the internal phone memory and then choose that file as your kernel with the SGS Flasher.
Note: I have not been successful with going back to stock kernel when I tried to but that may have been because I didn't disable the lag fix.

I'm 100% stock on 2.2Froyo except for root/unlock and am puzzled by this. I know it's not ROM Manager because it worked on my first SGS4G which died and totally bricked after a week (TMO exchanged it happily cause it wouldn't even go into download mode or charge).
What's in this update you linked? Cause I'm smart, but not as smart as most of the posters here and I recognize only a couple things in the file.
It installs CWM.
Are you using a Vibrant or SGS4G?
SGS 4G for TMobile.
BTW... I totally appreciate the help here. I don't know the ins-n-outs of the android phones like I do IOs, not that I'm all that up to date on that either.
Update... Still does not work. I get the failed signatures error and the update is aborted. I tried doing a factory reset and re-rooting the phone in case something didn't work correctly and get the same error. At this point, it's all gravy since the only thing I really needed was the unlock but now I'm in a "I just want to know how this works" mode.
Thanks for the help.
Ok yeah that my be the problem since that zip is for the Vibrant. So just to be straight, you are unable to get CWM on your SGS4G?
That's correct. I can't apply any update.zip nor does flashing CWM recovery work. It says it's flashing but then when I do the 3 button reboot to get to recovery, it's the 3e version still and when I go to reinstall packages, it starts but then fails as it tries to verify signatures.
