My phone was rooted by one click root before this update. It is DI.01 before this update. But after I updated it to EA28. It seems that it is not rooted anymore. Do I need to root it again by one click root or any other method? Thanks!
Yes, you will need to re-root. Unfortunately I can't get the one-click method to work as I continue to get the "error: device not found".
adb it is.

I'm getting an issue with adb itself saying device not found.
The one click worked with Dl09, gotta make sure your pc is recognizing the phone properly. Sometimes reboot while usb is plugged in helps. Havent tried to root after latest update, so maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks ziggy. The reboot while plugged in works like a charm. Got full adb now. I've been banging my head against the wall and my buddies phone forever trying to get this.
It's always the easy fix.

What do you mean reboot while plugged in? The directions in the one click root don't tell you to unplug during reboot so the phone is always plugged in during reboot. I'm getting the same error with my Fascinate with EA28
Just use the new updated method for DJ05?DL09/DL30 found in the development forum.
Essentially you're installing a zip file with Busy Box and SU in CWM that will give you back your root privileges.

reboot (not unplug) while the phone is plugged into the computer, this often fixes the computer not recognizing the phone properly... nothing to do with the actual rooting process. You have to get your computer to pick up your phone as mass storage before you can even start rooting.

Anyone else having this problem?
I'm using Unrevoked 3.1 on Windows XP.
I've got USB debugging on and the drivers installed.
The phone reboots into HBoot but then never goes into recovery. Just reboots.
Anyone else having this problem? It is definitely screwing me over for 2.2 haha.

Superuser will not install. Unrevoked just reboots the phone it seems... never going into the custom recovery or flashing SU.
Which is my problem haha. I want 2.2 but can't flash it without root.
If I lose root because of this and am the only one I'm not going to be a happy camper lol
Possible
After reading 700+ pages of the other thread I have decided to steer clear from the buggy-beta and wait for the OTA, but I have had trouble with v3.1 and a regular reboot, so I wanted to chime in with 1 question:
Is your phone hot while this is happening?
I returned my Incredible due to excessive heat triggering reboots. When the phone was in the warm-to-hot zone, I could NEVER get into recovery. I could get into HBOOT, choose recovery, and then it would do 2 reboots, the second one being a regular.
Only way i could get into recovery was with a fully charged overnight battery, first thing in the morning (phone nice and cool).
Just got into it. used the custom image... the new 2.5.0.4 (if I'm not mistaken).
It was weird, and it may not be the image... it may have just taken like 10 tries to do it.
I'm not even wasting my time loading the OS... just putting on Froyo right now while in clockwork.
Crossing my fingers that it loads!

having trouble after i got the new ota loaded. I get to the reboot phone reboots then unrevoked says waiting for phone to reboot any ideas didn't have this problem before?
edit: never mind got restarted computer life is good now
I am having the same issue. I have installed the drivers, then when I run the reflash tool it reboots my phone after about 3 seconds and loads up HBOOT and then from there it reboots my phone and the reflash tool either says "waiting on phone to reboot" or "installing image" or something like that but it just sits there for hours and doesn't progress. I have debugging enabled.
To add a little history, I already rooted using the hard method awhile back and then unrooted. Now I am trying to root again and can't.
I was wondering what root I should go with as a first time rooter lol..
And a link to get there maybe.... Iv heard froyo 2.2 is the best

In this forum there is the stickied thread for beginners that links to AndroidCentral directions for a one click method.
I used that to get rooted without any issues.
Then I went to the devoper forum and used the How To guide for getting DL30. That worked with no issues too.
1. You need to upgrade (OTA if possible) to DL09 first.
2. Follow directions exactly as stated.
3. After root, install Titanium Backup. Its not mentioned in these directions but its very helpful and lets you back up specific apps. I only backed up my apps that have specific data or were actualy purchased. I redownloaded others, such as maps, etc.
4. Follow directions exactly as stated and be patient.
Now, the first time I had ran the one click, I got the same 'error'. no worries, just run it again. It took me two times for it to run properly.
Make sure you are following directions and have USB debugging and don't click the notification to start mass storage. Just turn on USB debugging and plug in the phone, then run Odin and files as directed.

Yes. It worked just fine. I think those that had errors maybe had DL09 from this dev site vs the OTA or simply didn't follow the directions perfectly.

ok.. thanks for clearing that up
I had an issue with the one click root.
The phone needed to be power cycled and unplugged from the computer during the first auto-reboot and i had to mount then un-mount the device. The mount and un-mount is on the phone after you plug it back in.
Also, I read somewhere on here that the OTA DL09 was pulled due to the emergency call issue. Not sure how true it is...
And, the froyo update was the first time I rooted and loaded a different OS.
So should I keep trying to root with the one click our should I update to DL09 then one click?

You could root with one click then use Odin to flash the stock DL09 that is here in the forums.
OR, just wait for Verizon to put out their fix and of course the latest update which could just be DL30 or a fixed DL09.
So I just updated my phone with EA28 does any one know what that one does?.....it s from verizon

Since its basically identical to DL09 but with the 911 bug fixed and I was able to one-click root on my DL09 without any issues, I'd say yes.
Just follow the directions in the stickied thread in this forum for "beginners". It links to Android Central. Just create a free account to see the files.

As soon as your phone reboots disconnect it from the USB. Wait for it to boot up then reconnect it to the USB.
That is what I had to do to get the one click to run on DL09.
Ok Obviously Samsung fascinate...i used Odin to flash over the new DL09 to upgrade from my DI01, great cool!
Then i used Android Central rooting tool (basically cause its the only one i know of) which i have used 2or 3 times now with a successful root everytime, works like a charm like always.
However when Verizon messed up with a Emergency Call placing under lock screen they OTA EA28 to my phone, somehow i lost my root, ok still not a problem, i go back to my favorite little tool i start her up, this time, with all driver in place just fine, with my phone is USB Debugging as requested, phone restarted and unlocked everytime, my phone isn't recognized?
I've re-installed everything, even the drivers, i've removed all the superuser, all that good stuff off my phone, still no love from the phone?!
HELP!!!!
Edit- I thought about re-flashing DL09, but then the OTA will kick in re-install EA28 and i'll be back to square one!
Use superoneclick it worked for me. If you have problems using superoneclick then power your phone off and on while usb still pluged in while on debug mode

I have an AT&T Atrix on the 1.5.7 firmware. I do have all drivers installed, USB debugging enabled, and am using Windows 7 (dual booted on a macbook 2011).
I believe my problem is that I originally rooted it on the old firmware and then i installed the 1.5.7 OTA update. I now have the Superuser app on my phone but it does not give anything root permission. I've attempted to root again via Superoneclick but it gets hung right after pushing pneuter or gingerbreak to the phone. I have also tried unrooting but that gets hung up as well.
Can anyone give me some things to try or even walk me through something?
Thanks so much!
search the dev forum for gladroot as to why it doesn't work...
and you can try to re-root using gingerbreak, which is also in the dev forum.
basically updating without following the proper steps will not keep your root. and also.
NEVER USE SUPERONECLICK!
spend some time in the dev forums. you'll learn a lot.
Thanks! I'll look into the gladroot issue.
I have tried Gingerbreak but when I run the program with my phone connected, the spinning loading cursor displays for a second then nothing happens. I've ran as administrator but that doesn't do anything different.
It's worth noting, on 1.8.4 Gingerbreak 1.2 worked fine. I know recovery wasn't playing nice unless plugged in. That could also help. Obviously it won't hurt.

Update to 1.83 and use gingerbreak. You'll need an external SD card though. It works great.
Not sure if this is the place to put this, but I'm having a similar problem, even if I got here differently.
I tried superoneclick, and I tried gladroot. In each case, the program seemed to run successfully, did everything I expected from the directions, no error messages. Claimed success at the end of the run. The superuser app is installed, but no apps are listed. When I try to run an app that needs root, like Root Explorer, it just complains that my phone isn't rooted.
I used the directions and downloads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
Build number was OLYLA_U4_0.37.4
My phone is on Bell, so I used the Bell directions. Anyone else have or overcome this problem?
i am rooted, all root apps work.
my problem is android commander says am not rooted (windows xp)
and adb dont work
any solution?

So I tried doing the webtop hack anyway, and when I got to this step:
Code:
adb shell
su
my phone prompted me to allow root access. Finished the process and it's working fine. Ran Root Explorer, it asked for permission, and now it works fine, too.
Maybe doing something as explicit as 'su' in adp shell was the kick in the pants it needed. Either way it's working now...
I thought maybe I'd added superuser to auto-end list, for whatever reason, but when I checked it wasn't there...

Hello, new to the Droid 2 but not Android phones (currently have a Droid Charge). So, I ordered the D2 for my mom. I've been trying to root it using the one click method I found here. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it keeps failing to root. I have it in debugging mode. PC recognizes phone and starts doing its thing. It always errors out around su part saying it can't find su or something like that. Bottom line is that it's erroring out and not completing the root process. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try using Z4Root (in the market). It's what I used.
For some reason, it's not showing up in the market for me.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
Then try finding the apk online somewhere. Or try clearing the cache for the market and look again.
Thanks. Found it. Tried it. The phone is still not rooted. Z4 didn't work either. I click on permanent root. It looks like it's doing its thing and then just closes. The program closes on its own. Don't get it. This phone is being stubborn.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
You sure you are not rooted, because it sounds like Z4 did it's job. Do you have SDK and ADB set up? You can use that to check if you are rooted. Also see if you have Clockworkmod installed. That's a good indicator that you are rooted.
If all else fails, you might have to sbf it, then try again.

Yeah, not rooted still. Z4 and Easy method continue to fail. Not sure what the issue is. It's never been this difficult for me to root a phone before. Perplexed here.
That's interesting seeing as I rooted mine real quick using Z4 and ADB. Then used Droid 2 Bootstrap to install CWM. Then used ROM Manager to update CWM. It's really not that hard to root the D2. I really do't know why you are having problems. Like I said, SBF it and try to root again.

Whew! Finally got it done...had to do it the old fashioned way through adb.
Lol SBF means to get the SBF file for your phone and flash it. It would reset your system back to stock settings. Then you can redo what you were trying to do, but from a clean, stable set up.
Glad to hear it. ADB is a life saver and should be a required knowledge when rooting/ROMing. Good luck!

Lol It's called RUUing with HTC androids. The companies have to make it hard for us.
No problem. And just so you know, when I rerooted my spare D2 using Z4root, the app and the phone turned off toward the end of the process and it was indeed rooted. It's just how Z4root does things (it did the same with my main D2 also). I checked with ADB to be sure. For future reference.

Interesting. My phone never turned off though. Z4 just quit. I know it didn't work because Rom Manager, Superuser app, and Busybox installer didn't work. It wasn't until I pushed them to system/bin and installed Busybox through adb that the phone would root. Go figure!
