i5801 gps settings - Galaxy 3 General

hi guys I have a rooted froyo 2.2 i5801
the gps is really unstable and I'm out of solutions. I have tried fasterfix gps booster.. change settings at gpssetup2 but I just can't get a lock on 100 percent of the time. sometimes it detects multiple satellites but it just can't lock onto it. oh and I'm from Singapore.
it would be great if anyone can recommend me some settings or solutions
thanks!

GPS Not Working

Hi All,
I am using a Galaxy 3 with Lestatious 1.1 Gingy ROM with Apollo's Lagfix installed. My phone is working great (thanks to both Lestat and Apollo and each one of you) but my GPS is not working.
I can use wireless networking for positioning on Google Maps but the moment i turn on GPS it says "Your location is temporarily unavailable". I have tried many fixes including the ones mentioned in the development forums like:
1. Tweaking GPS2Setup
2. Using SGS Tools
3. Using a gps.conf file
4. GPS Booster
5. Fasterfix etc etc
Nothing has worked so far. Please help
sry dude.. i m afraid that u hav to reflash ur phn... nd then plz DO NOT instll any OCTY apps... coz it makes perfect workin gps DISABLED.. it's my personal experience!!...so beware of these apps...
There is an option in gps settings to obtain location from wi-fi and mobile networks...make sure it's checked......you'll get a faster location fix with that option checked......
Sent from my Lestatious v1.2 Galaxy 3
strange, OCTY's apps help me to get fix in few seconds.
It probably depend on rom(xpf ultra clean), or region.

Also be shure to.get your first fix outdoors i had the same problem inside my house, when i came out, my first fix took 4 minutes, the next fixes just 30 seconds and i live in colombia, if that doesnt work, flash another room

I've found the GPS to be useless with the fix or without. It seems much better to use simulated GPS on the 3G network. Sure, theoretically, it's a bit less accurate, but then again, theoretically GPS is damn near perfect, but if it was, we wouldn't be having this issue.
May be this might help u

Hey ... Sorry ... Collection of GPS fixes by Fadex is for SGS .
Try this ..
1] *#*#3214789650#*#*
2] Go To: Commands > TTFF test > Test Setting
3] Change the "Number of test" to "100" (yes i know. that's a lot.)
4] Click OK
5] Click "Start GPS"
6] Use GPS.
My Pro the sam as your.
just turn ON GPS then restart your mobile . after this never turn it off again even when you are not using it . you will get lock within 10-15sec . I keep my GPS option ON always and i am not using these things people are saying . i still get 2days battery

Which version are you running (Stock Eclair that came along with phone or Stock / Custom Froyo ROM's) ?
Read this post for getting GPS fix (at your own risk )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
I tried octy but it didn't help me much... :S
Octy apps did not help me to fix my gps.. I tried octy to make my gps faster.. But it made my workins gps dead every time.. I had to hadr reset or flash to make my gps alive again.. I am from india.. So I can assume octy app has some issues atleast with the indian..
So as octy did not make it for me, I tried gpssetup2 ... It locks my gps in 30seconds.. So I wil recommend you guys to go for gpssetup2 1st before going for octy apps..

My GPS works like a charm since I've updated to Indroid 4.1. It locks in 15 - 20 seconds which is quite good. On stock ROM, it sucks, sometimes it used to take more than 3 - 4 minutes to get a lock.
Neo is right.. Try gps aid..

Android 3.1 Stock rooted GPS problems...

Hi to all, today i installed the 3.1 Stock ROM rooted wtih CWM and now i have the 4.010.05 COM GEN 1.
All perfect, i use it for 1 hour, but only the GPS have some problems to fix location.
With Honeycomb 3.0.1 I had the same problem but I thought that version 3.1 would solve it.
The GPS in this Tablet is a real hardware problem or software problem????
I must contact ACER to change my tablet with a new Iconia Tab A500???
Where is the problem with GPS????
Help me please.
Bye
Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152318
A few seconds of actually scrolling down the forum page would have found you this...
I applied this update last night and had the same gps issue.
FYI, Although root is there, busybox is not....
My gps fix was to install faster fix (busybox required) from the market, loaded and locked in under 10 seconds.
Everything works great so far.....
Ok i copied the HD2 file "Gps.conf" in "Europe.zip" and seem that work indoor after a Reboot in recovery and Delete Cache and Delete Dalvik Cache.
This evening I test in car with Sygic and i tell if work.
My Iconia A500 has rooted and have Busybox and CMW.
I must use Faster Fix or not????
Thanks.
P.S.
The GPS problems is a software issue not an corrupt hardware module, it's right?

Since fasterfix simply replaces your existing gps.conf, you can always roll back to your existing if you have a copy. I would give it a try, cant hurt.
Ok this evening i try Iconia A500 in my car witg Sygic Gps Navigation.
The fix work but the signal isnt constant and sometimes it lost position and fix after few seconds, i dont know why!!!!!!
Now at my home outdoor the fix is slow after 3 hours without gps activity, Google Maps at start show me a wrong position, it give me the position of my parents house, why???
It's normal?
My Nexus one is more quickly and stable of this Gps and i think that this Tablet isnt a good solution for car navigation.
Any suggestions to solve my Gps problems???
Thanks
Bye

My 100% fix, bluetooth gps tether your Nexus One to your tab and use its signal, that is what I do. This tablet has poor gps performance, the N1 is excellent.

Yes, Sygic is my GPS app of choice as well, and this works with the newer releases.
About the gps i can confirm that while i was running virtous rom asus based 1.08 my gps was blazing fast I mean 10 found 10 fixed on gps essentials.. now with stock rom i still get a fix within 30 seconds but i only see 5 or 6 sats and lock on 2 or 3 so ..i would assume software is the problem or some app interferes with gps ....
I decided to use the solution of daveid and work perfectly in car.
One only thing, i must set 100% of screen brightness to see it during the day with sun or there is a lot of reflections....any solutions???

Make sure you select a country/region and set it which should be reflected in the 'current status' dialog.... Its not harmful but good for me may not be for your area of the world?????
PS make sure you have busybox installed before you run fasterfix, required....

The GPS for the LG GT540 is only supported for UK and US. As I live in New Zealand, it doesn't work for me unless I use the mod.
If you do live in those regions, see if it is receiving enough signal for it to make an assumption of the location. Wi-fi or cellular data makes the location more accurate.

It works for me, I live in Indonesia. I have compare the coordinate result between GT540 gps and field gps which was Garmin GPSMap and the result is quite good. In the format of Degree-Minute-Seconds, they're only slight different in 'seconds unit'.

So does the installation of RC4 reduce the accuracy or does it fully disable your access to GPS?

After a long time (1 day) with the mobile switched on the GPS doesn't work, with any app, google maps, gps status or runtastic, I wait for the GPS fix status but the GPS system doesn't detect any satellite. Only few times works properly.
When it doesn't work I need to make a long batch to make it work, switch GPS off, run "fasterboot", run "GPS fix", switch GPS on, reboot and try it again... after this process some times works, and some times not... so I need to repeat the process until it works and it's a desperate situation.

Do you have data assisted location on? Go to --> Settings --> Location and security and then check if 'Use wireless networks' is only on. GPS will work with that on but will be less accurate that the use of an actual GPS connection. Also try it with both 'Use wireless networks' and 'Use GPS satellites' (if not already) and then try it with only 'Use GPS satellites' (to see if it actually determines location from satellites.
My GPS module seems to be also [email protected]#d up :/

I know what are you talking about... but the problem is when i'm running with runtastic software or walking with navigation the accuracy is horrible! I need that the GPS works properly, is one thing really necessary for my hobbies and job.
It doesn't work from the SwiftDroid with CM7. I read in other forums that the problem comes with CM7, but the fixes only works well with another brands of mobile phones. I'm thinking about to change to the [AOSP][v4.1] Android 2.3.5 or downgrade the Mur4ik version...

I use it sometimes of the road or while walking. I use it about once a week, but the frequency can fluctuate. I use MapDroyd. It's free on the Android Market and you can use it offline with a downloadable map.
I haven't had any real problems with the GPS and 2.3.5 although it seems to get a bit jittery occasionally (sometimes jumping up to 3 miles away from the current location) and every now and the GPS seems to shut down and restart.
I use Sygic GPS Navigation but it also happens with Google Maps as well.
Do you have or had 'Use wireless network' on. It happens to mine too. It seems like the location of which it used a data connection on is first used and then the actual location by a GPS.

Or, it might need the connectors for the gps aerial bending slightly, as they are made of a weak metal, and get pressed in over time in. There are several threads about it.
I did the fix on mine, and the gps works brilliantly now!
Hope this helps
