Great! Dust under glass on top left corner... - EVO 4G General

Just realized today that there is some dirt under the glass screen on the top left corner. When the screen is on, it is hard to notice. But since I plan on selling this phone to get my next one during the summer, I want this thing to be mint.
Do you know if Sprint will replace my entire phone or will they just replace the display in-store? I hope it's the latter...
BTW, any chance of getting a White EVO replacement?

Oh boy.... /me gets into his flame retardant suit.

Kind of figured it was an honest mistake.... but I still was prepared for the worst
Also suprised no 'white knights' have shown up yet.

He just wants us to develop a solution for him. Hence the development part of the forum.

I only play white night when I can tell people did it on purpose.
It's pretty clear no bad intentions here.
But as a side note I've got the same problem and right now having a battle with sprint trying to get them to fix it. They are seriously being pricks.
I think I'll threaten to move to verizon.
That'll get them going.

Yes and no; NEXT!
JK
I would say that sprint will switch it for you if you complain enough, and to the correct person; however there is zero chance of a white evo unless because of the variance in SKUs.

I have had the screen replaced twice on my Evo for dust in the upper left corner. This defect was corrected but the scecond screen I got was also one of the originals. The third I have now appears to be the one with the revised gasket.

Youre going to get hella flamed, but meh, its the internet.
Anyways, YES sprint will replace it. They replaced a friends evo for dust, and my sisters hero that had dust. I plan on selling mine to get my next phone too

Yup. Tried to do it online got an error. called sprint, they didnt put insurance on the account when I got the phone. lol. Went to sprint had them add insurance since my other two lines had it. I always want insurance on 500 dollar phones because stuff like this ALWAYS seems to happen. So I will be now calling them sometime shortly. I wish sprint could just fix it. I saw the teardown pics. didnt look that hard to me. lol

[CLOSED/G2] Problem with non spring loaded hinge

I wanted to make this thread because I've read in a few different threads that people are having problems with the slide up screen.
Apparently, if you hold the phone upside down - the screen will slide down and sort of just do it's own thing.
I also read that some people who have their G2 are not experiencing that same problem. Defect? Or is it supposed to do that and is a result of bad designing?
I plan on getting my G2 Oct. 6 and I just wanted everyone to be aware of that potential problem.
If you are having or not having that issue, feel free to let it be known below.
Thanks!!
I'm pretty sure it's a defect with a few people's phones. So far, only one person out of like 6-7 said it happened to them. Maybe he could tighten a torx screw or something? Not too big of a deal... I guess we'll see!
I thought the issue was when it's closed, people hold it upside down and it starts to kind of open up?

I have this issue. If you hold the bottom of the phone, and them hold the phone upside down, then the screen portion slides along the hinge all on its own.
I believe this is an issue with it being a non spring loaded hinge, but I will confirm tomorrow maybe if I can drop by a T-mobile store and ask to see their demo ( I think they will let me if they see I have one)
Hmm.. I'm pretty picky about these kinds of things. Crossing my fingers the G2 I get will be solid.

the demo i have has this problem, i'm not really that picky but to be honest i feel a bit burned on the slide since i had a G1 first and insurance couldn't get me another one.

See I can't really call it loose. And if it were any firmer it wouldn't slide right. I just guess I wish it would hold tighter? I'm not sure. Its solid as hell , and the hinge is metal , and slides like butter, and when in the up it has a very slight wobble? Maybe its something to get used to.
It doesn't feel cheap by any means. But in that respect I'm not entirely sure how it is supposed to feel..being one of the first owners and all.
i don't like that it "falls" open, not that i hold the phone at that angle very frequently, but it would annoy me later on. but as already stated, it's not really loose, the only person to use this thing was me all day and it was like this right out of the box, i think the hinge itself is a little too slick(greased or internally loose) but it may get better with time. we will see what happens, as with all things we won't know till later
Haha man, I'm not even pre order status. I have to wait until it comes out. But I got a homie who works at T-Mobile. He said he gonna hook me up some how.
But yea, I wonder if they will fix this on 2nd gen models. Not wanting to wait that long tho. Sucks that this is an issue tho.

I wouldn't even say it needs fixing. The G1 wasn't even solid initially. The left side wobbled etc. The EPIC has wobble side to side when screen is closed and when open.. I think this is the most solid slider I have used since the TP2. I guess I'm just gripe-y
hehehe! I'd rather have this issue than the one on the MTS. You practically need a crowbar to open the keyboard. and as you open it, it makes a horrible grinding sound.

Phone got ran over

Hello everyone, my phone got ran over last night. Its actually still working fine, touchscreen and all but there are cracks in the lower screen. You cant actually feel them but if you tilt the phone or whatever you can. Last night it was like bleeding pink colors but now the entire phone is covered in like a pink and blue haze. I can't see much of anything but the touch screen still works. I know the bottom screen needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how about much this would cost to be repaired? Should I go to a local repair shop? Also what needs to be fixed exactly so I don't get hustled?
Your LCDs are bleeding (causing the "haze"), your digitizer is fine if the touchscreen is working, you need a new screen.
Here is an example of what you need replaced:
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/google-nexus-one-lcd-screen-replacement-display-amoled.html
You can do it yourself, but I would only attempt it if you're really good with that kind of stuff. But if you do want to do it yourself, here are some cheaper screens from eBay. And this guy on youtube has a good set of videos on how to replace the screen (45 videos). But again, this is going to take time and skill.
It says in the videos that he's replacing his digitizer. Should I just follow the same steps? Do you think its that difficult to do it by one's self? I'm pretty tech-savvy but I don't have any experience in cell phone repair. But I am a college student and saving a large amount of money on labor costs would be awesome
Doesnt nexus have amoled screen not lcd. Who stupid is thinking that every device haves crappy lcd like iphone.

Uh, I dont know the specifics. You might need to replace the entire digitizer (maybe it's all one part, and you cant just replace the screen). For sending it into HTC, someone on android forums said that:
I cracked my LCD last month, sent it in to HTC, cost $115 total including overnight shipping which HTC covers, was only phoneless for 4 days.

So I mean, its up to you. Here is a google support thread and some other forum post, maybe you can get more info. Here are more instructions for self-repair.

Yes, it's an AMOLED screen, buy it is still referred to as an LCD screen.

I appreciate the help. I just contacted a local repair shop and they said it would be $124. So I'm figuring it's worth it to pay the thirty dollars for the labor rather than screwing it up. Thanks though for pointing me in the right way
Yea, thats good. Personally, I wouldn't try to mess with all that internal stuff, too complicated for me and too many places I could screw up lol. No problem.

Notification bar doesn't WORK!

Yes, I understand that there are several threads that discuss this, but everybody seems to find an answer and I don't. My notification bar does not slide down, but it does while in landscape mode (on the left side the whole way up and down). I ran a screen test and there was nothing wrong, and I didn't drop it. Anybody know what it could be?
Have you tried wiping and reflashing your ROM/ kernel?
I had this EXACT problem. only.. it happened right after i dropped it. i just called sprint and told them idk y it was doing it so they replaced my phone.
full wipe and reflash the rom.
It also helps us more if we know what rom and kernel you're running

I had the stock rom when I started.. I whiped and reflashed to MikiFroYo rom, idk what the kernel is. I can't get another one because I bought this on eBay and don't have insurance for it :/ I wanted to get an otterbox or something for it, but I have an extended battery on it.
Well you can get insurance with Sprint that's what I did and I just my EVO from eBay also....I'm not sure if you can get it anytime or if its open enrollment this month....I suggest you check it out...oh and my bar is messed up too.
I've haven't had access to my notification bar for probably 6+ months. Just click menu and notification and move on with life lol. I heard it could be as simple as cable on motherboard isn't fully inserted as in popped out on a drop. Or rough handling.

I've had this issue with themes on several ROM's. Remove the theme and run the ROM as normal and the bar returns. Install the themes again and it goes away.

Screen Coated?

I have a scratch coming from the upper part of the screen going right and down. It's very small right now.
I was freaking out because my last phone was a pre which cracked and slowly went across the screen.
My question is I know the screen is glass so is there a coating on the screen that is just scratched or do I now have to worry about it slowly spreading across my screen?
I dunno man but if that was my phone I would be sick to my stomach. I know what some of you are thinking. Christ, its just a damn phone. True, but I am very careful with my phones and treat them like they're my baby. God I'm so embarassed admitting this!
The first and only time I let someone use my epic, they immediately dropped it on the concrete. It had a case on it and I don't think the phone was damaged but I cussed at them anyways (it was a customer too). I will NEVER again let someone touch my phones after that incident.
Hahaha. I lost 3 of my 6 pres to the usb crack.
I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm slightly worried about my phone too.. it does look like there might be a crack towards one side of my screen. I bet we're just traumatized by the pre where if you waited out a problem, it didn't get better. The good thing, I guess, is that I got used to dealing with asurion.

How does it work? Is there a 2.1 OC kernel? I haven't been keeping up. I was thinking of digging mine out to try out the new webos when I first read about it on precentral, but I forget it exists most of the time now. I never thought I'd buy into android, but htc phones are great.
