Market.Android - XPERIA X8 General

Have you noticed the new PC android market?
http://market.android.com/
Tell me your opinion!

I'm not sure I see the point, if all it does is use a qr code to direct your phone to the market to install the sofware.

It's a little bit stupid, for my opinion xD

agreed, useless....

from what I understand is you can set it t push automatically,I havny looked at it yet...
Sent from my Frankenstein FROYO using XDA App...

Its like apple apps store, isn't it ?

Almost....

I think it's quite brilliant. If I'm in front of my computer anyways, I find it easier to use the web market to browse apps.

It uses over-the-air installing. Simply click Install on the web market, and it'll start installing on your phone automagically.
Can't see how another option is a bad thing

still no proper sorting option like best rated, latest, most downloaded etc...

Paid Market App question

No, don't worry this is not another "I don't see the paid market applications" thread.
I am wondering, now that we have some really excellent and 100% usable builds, and furthermore, I am committed to the Android platform in general - I am looking to purchase some applications.
My question is - how are paid applications linked to you? Say I buy a weather widget, and I choose to switch to another build, or say another phone. How does google link me to that purchase? Will I be able to redownload for free just because I'm signed into my Google account?
Greatly appreciate any tips on how this works

they are linked in to the "cloud" just like anything else involved with your google account. it will install if you switch to another build(, unless,
say you buy a live wallpaper in an eclair build it wouldnt download in donut. it would download again when you use an eclair build again though.

To be clear:
It's linked to your google account.
If you buy a new Android phone, you'll still have your apps.

Same here. I tried and it kept FCing like crazy. I'm sure someone will fix it.
Simple. Its written for the hardware. It probably uses a backend. Any 3d stuff CAN"T be done in java. It's too slow. You need to write it in C or C++. They probably used the NDK to do so.

Wouldn't install for me.
it shouldn't work unless you disable scence ui
otherwise it will keep force closing
but even then i'm not sure if the eris can handle it because it can't handle the live wallpapers and google earth

I challenge this, I did work for 3 years doing 3d visualization of optics problems (http://webtop.org). Now on the phone it is more challening but there are 3d games and such on the market that work reasonably well.
Most the the 3d games are running the NDK backend (developer.android.com/sdk/ndk/1.5_r1/index.html)

TouchWiz 3.0 On Android For HD2?

Is there any chance of getting this on some Android build?
Maybe the choice of having Sense, TouchWiz and the standard interface?
Thank you for answers!!

i tried installing the .apk but it would always force close and never work.
Not open source. Devs could be looking for the same HTC C&D letter from samsung. Besides, there is not one advantage of using this home replacement that you couldnt find in the ones currently in the market. Poke me if I'm wrong

Well okay, i see Too bad! But why are people still cooking rooms with sense if its illegal? Sorry, for asking so much
It's here. Only launcher.
Im running it on dan13s froyo build you put the apk on the sd card and open it with the file explorer. have to go to settings and allow non market apps, but that's it.

Where can I get a file explorer? The Android I'm running doesn't come with one. Check my sig for what I'm running.
Thanks!

Yeah check the market for "Linda" or "Astro". Both free, both will do the job. There are others as well but these are the two I've used most. Remeber to check your app settings to allow installation of third party apps (i.e. apps not from Android Market)

I guess cause it's an HTC phone, or at least I think.

Where are the apps?

I understand that logmein is coming, but where is weatherbug? Does anyone have the xoom version? I download it from the market and it is identical to the version that I have on my DX. Is it out yet? When is it coming? Etc.
I dunno, but this is definately the place to ask.

Weatherbug for honeycomb is not out yet. Its still in beta stage and can't be downloaded.
Logmein for Android works fine for now.
I haven't had too many problems for most apps. Not ideal but they work for the moment.

Actually Logmein doesn't work at all. It won't connect to the machine. They say that they are aware and an update is coming, but no timeline as to when.

Wont let me install it from the market. My device list is there but not highlighted/not selectable. Interesting...
Guys, this is the first Honeycomb device that came out yesterday. The full SDK just came out 3 days ago. Its gonna take a little time before we see tablet apps. Just give it a little time! they will come.

Especially considering that Google implemented the "Fragments UI" idea in the latest SDK. From my understanding, this will allow the devs to make apps that work with both tablets and phones, where the UI will scale to different sizes for the different areas, instead of having 2 different apps.

Does that mean that the apps will be larger so I can download even fewer of them to my limited Nexus One storage?

Ok I'm gonna post a new thread devoted to this, I'm SURE someone on XDA must have found a leaked version of this beta apk, because not having it straight away is unacceptable . This is by FAR the app that I've been looking forward to with the Xoom. I'd gladly trade Flash for the next few months before the Weatherbug app! (hate me if you want, whatever)

Adding in the Fragments UI concept is only a few limited lines of code to allow scaling. Doesn't mean that the size of the apps will necessarily be any bigger. Don't forget, theres always Apps2SD
If having scalable UI means that the apps will be slightly bigger but completely functional, it's worth it.

Agreed, however this one is a different story, as it is an app that IS already in the Market, but some sort of glitch (either at the Weatherbug end or the Google end of things) isn't allowing it to be downloaded and installed. After all, as far as the Weatherbug site is concerned, this beta app *should* be fully available for download at this moment. At any rate I just sent an email in to the folks at Weatherbug as I'm quite sure they'd want to know about this so that they can communicate with Google to sort out the problem and make sure their app is fully available.

What do you mean by that? Something like Amazon, or maybe something like AppBrain, AppAware, Android PIT, etc.?
Or maybe even black markets?

AFAIK the amazon market is not avaliable outside the US
At least, it's not avaliable in Germany
For me it´s Appbrain.
In the last couple of days appbrain is mostly down(the site and the sync in android).
They all have there pro's and cons,
Android market is good, only mainly ... install direct etc but no backups.
App brain can be a bit clunky .. but . does back up apps... again it installs from the Android market ..
The others?... not so good.
