I tried to install a new ROM on my rooted Droid 2 yesterday (can't remember which one it was now). Long story short, I believe my phone is bricked. Trying to figure out if there is anything I can to to undo it.
Yes, I did a Koush bootstrap recovery prior to attempting to install the new ROM. When I press the "x" key while powering on the phone, I get the android alien logo with the triangle next to it. I then hit the search key, and I get these four options:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
And at the bottom of the screen, in yellow letters, it says:
E: Can't open/cache/recovery/command
My question is, how do I access the backed up nandroid and reinstall it? Shouldn't it be showing up on the aforementioned menu of options?
After you bootstrap recovery it should have said "sucess'' and then you hit the reboot recovey option. That take you into clockwork recovery.

After you install the bootstrap apk, you should hit bootstrap recovery, give it su access, and it should say success. To get into the recovery, go into the bootstrap apk and hit reboot recovery and you should be good to go.

So. im trying to uninstall voodoo v.02
and i was wondering if i did a backup on CWM before installing voodoo kernal.
Can i just flash it back? and will that completey get rid of voodoo?
And if that doesnt work, how else can i get rid of voodoo.
I NEEED A METHOD THAT WILL COMPLETELY DELETE VOODOO.
BTW. I DONT KNOW WHAT ADB IS. OR ADB PUSHING.
As long as you can get to CW through recovery. Follow steps for automatic uninstaller in this THREAD. If you didn't do a nandroid before voodoo. You will be redoing everything.
good day.

Use the auto-uninstaller in the thread.
There's this awesome button in the top right hand corner of your web browser that says "Search This Forum". Some of us like to use it from time to time, maybe next time you could look into it. Just a thought.
Cant you tell by the ALL CAPITALIZED LETTERS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE REQUEST that it is urgent and he doesn't have time for searching?
ANSWER HIM NOW
Think of it this way. We may have just saved him from an AT&T boot screen.
good day.
i dont understand this part
3. Wipe data from stock recovery. Apply CWM. Wipe data from clockwork.
4. Reboot phone.
Completing step 2 will get you back to stock recovery (blue text)
3. Wipe data from stock recovery. Then apply to get back to CMR (green text).
And continue with below.
Apply CWM. Wipe data from clockwork.
4. Reboot phone.
good day.

wipe data from stock recovery: This wipes the data partition on your internal memory. This, basically, is where your apps and settings are stored. As stated above, by completing step 2, you will end up at a blue screen (stock recovery) which has the option of "wipe data/factory reset" use the arrow keys to bring the highlight bar down to this option and hit the "home" softkey.
Apply CWM: CWM = ClockWorkMod. This is the recovery that you get into by booting to Stock recovery and applying /sdcard/update.zip. By "Apply CWM" he wants you to run update.zip to get into CWM recovery.
wipe data from clockwork: Once into CWM recovery, use the volume rocker to mov ethe highlight bar down to wipe data/factory reset. Hit the back softkey to execute.
...I'm sure you can actually figure out the "reboot phone" part.
I used the windows one click root method and I have root, however my droid 2 will not boot to CW recovery from ROM Manager.
I have scanned and did not see an answer..
Thanks for all of your hard work!

You need to download bootstrap recovery to boot into recovery
The D2 has a locked bootloader (thanks efuse) which prevents us from installing a custom recover. The bootstrap recovery is the only way to get to clockwork (I don't really know how it works cause im not a dev, but it does so thats all i need! lol).
So, as stated above, just download the bootstrap recovery, install and run it, hit bootstrap recovery (will be prompted to give superuser) and wait till it says success (should just be a few seconds), then hit reboot recovery and flash away!
Note* I believe you only have to hit bootstrap recovery once, then you can just hit reboot recovery when you need to flash. (I think after you flash a new rom you will have to hit bootstrap recovery again though but i could be wrong on that)
Thanks. Bootstrap worked great. Quick question though, how do you do custom ROMs?

Download the rom you want and put it on the sd card.
1: Boot into recovery via bootstrap.
2: Do a backup.
3: Now, go to the mount option and be sure data and cache are mounted.
4: Now wipe data and cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik and battery stats.
5: Go back and make sure everything is still mounted.
6: Go back to main menu and select install from sd card.
7. Select choose zip from sd card
8. Scroll down till you see your rom and select it then select yes. and wait for it to complete.
9. Reboot the phone and enjoy your new rom. (Booting the phone for the first time after flashing a new rom can take a few minutes so be patient.)

is there still anyone working on cracking the bootloader on the droid2.. droidx and milestones?
Cracking the bootloader seems unlikely. Unless a leak happens it's highly unlikely that a brute force method with crack it (order of magnitude is in years beyond the life of the universe).
aliasxerog is working on instead hijacking the boot process with a custom init that will hot swap a new kernel. In theory this should work just fine since the bootloader can load any kernel it wants and then hands off the rest of the boot process to init. What happens from there is out of Motorola's (and eFuse's) hands.
Im already rooted+soff+eng hboot and having trouble understanding the whole process.
I need to backup my stock, wipe, then flash ROM.
How do i do a backup?
Whats is Nandroid, Clockwork, Recovery mode, ROM Manager and how to use then?
Wipe and flashing is done through recovery mode?
Is there specific recovery images for each ROM?
Thanks in advance.
------------------------------------------
If i understand correct, a recovery image need to be loaded so i can use the typical recovery options(flash, backup, wipe).
- first thing you'll need to do, is install clockworkmod rom manager from the market. it's free, but you should donate for the pro version if you like it.
- once you're in it, you'll need to press "flash recovery." it should flash the 2.5.1.2 recovery on your phone. do this twice as for some reason, doing it once doesn't get it done.
- after that you can then boot into recovery mode.
--you can either boot into recovery mode from within rom manager, or,
--you can boot into the bootloader (power off your device, and then hold the volume down button and hold the power button, and then let the power button go but keep the volume down button until the bootloader shows up) and then choose "recovery" from the menu
- once you're in recovery, you can do backups, restores, etc.
- a nandroid = full backup
- a full wipe/factory allows you to completely wipe your system so that it's ready for a new rom
- a wipe cache and a wipe dalvik (and possibly fix permissions) is what you'd usually do if you're just doing an incremental upgrade to an existing rom
- recovery 2.5.1.2 (installed from rom manager) will allow you do work with all roms except for cm7/gingerbread roms. those roms require recovery 3.x.x.x
feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, and hope that helps.
is it need to use z4root root the phone
i try to get into recovery through two method but only get phone icon and triangle icon
what step i done wrong or something i missing to do?
Okay I have been using theunlockr's site in conjunction with xda and droidforums to learn about rooting and such over the last month. I have been rooted for a week or so now and have been enjoying wireless tether and setcpu, but thats about it. I want to do more, ie a custom rom. So I got DL09 Super Clean 's .zip on my sd card, and went into Rom Manager and Flashed Clockworkmod Recovery, then reboot into recovery. I keep getting stone walled here. It says;
failed to verify whole file signature
signature verification failed
installation aborted
then at the top I have the options to;
reboot system now
apply sd card update.zip
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
I tried a factory reset then re installed Rom Manager, seeing as super user was still in my app draw I didn't re root. What am I doing wrong? I know you guys hate people like myself but I'm at a loss.
CWM isn't fully installed. See what step you might have missed.

good day.
another quick question. When selecting update.zip from recovery the screen goes blank and the soft keys light up, how long should I have to wait for something to happen?
If you are in CWM recovery (green text).
Back or power = select (home will black screen but tap home again to turn back on)
Search = Back
To flash a rom/kernel/or theme you will use the "install zip from sdcard' option in CWM.
In stock recovery (blue text)
Home = select.
good day.
Your the man! Thanks!
I was attempting to switch from Galnet MIUI ICS for Droid X to Pooka/Kang CM7.1
So I went into recovery. Wiped data, cache and davlik. Then flashed the CM7 zip successfully followed by gapps 8/28. Rebooted. Bootlooped for 10 minutes. So I pulled the battery and attempted to go into recovery again: At the Android Bootmenu <v1.1.2> these are the errors.
Default mode: 2nd-init
Error: busybox was not created in rootfs!
Attempting to boot into CWM recovery
Starting CWM recovery...
Your phone will boot into CWM.
E: Error in /system/bootmenu/script/recovery.sh
(Result: No such file or directory)
When I attempt to reboot into stock recovery I am greeted with the exclamation mark screen.
And if I just reboot the phone it never past the boot logo.
What do I do!?
Update: I was able to get to a boot screen from the exclamation point screen by hitting buttons. From there I had the option to install from SD card, unfortunately, I couldn't access my download folders (or any lowercase folders for that matter) and the zips I needed aren't in root. Can I fix this?
SBF YOUR PHONE

Fyi... The buttons you hit to get in recovery... It was both volume buttons...
But you still need to sbf
Sent from nemo walking solus
You had to wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system.
And you can't install it by entering CWM from boot menu. You must use reboot to CWM.
