[Q] Need help with a few bugs. - G2 and Desire Z General

If you know any fixes to the problems or what causes them feel free to comment!
1: Texting app randomly scrolls upwards while typing
2: Phone random restart, I will lay phone down and randomly hear the starting up jingle
3: Randomly have no service in areas will full bars (currently at -65 dBm but could lose signal at any moment without warning. (Not the sim card, had it replaced)
4: Yellowish tint to the right and left of the keyboard on the gray paint.
5: YouTube videos still play in background of phone slowing everything down until restarted.
6: Keyboard types in all caps for no reason.
I am using a stock bell desire z. I couldn't go hunting for each of those myself in the form due to being crazy busy. Sorry if any of these have been addressed before.

[Q] Reception, Lock screen and SMS limit...?

I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on here about reception issues. My 3G goes in and out , from 4 bars to 1 and even zero bars at times while the phone is staying in the exact spot. does anyone thing this is a hardware or software issue?
The lock screen totally lags. it's almost ridiculous I have about 4 frames for the entire animation of it sliding left to right
I can't figure out a way to make the SMS limit per conversation over 1000. The phone keeps deleting my texts =( Is there a way around this I'm missing ...?
Love the phone it just seems like there's a few REALLY silly stupid problems with it .
Edit:
My voice search just will not search my contacts... I noticed it will only find contacts which are synced with Google, however even though i have my options to sync my contacts. i still only have 5/173 of my contacts synced.
For some silly reason there is ONE person ( that i know of) who's facebook profile was not downloaded into my phonebook . I only care for the picture ID .. but it's odd every one else (whom i know of) was downloaded other than him, spoke to him there's nothing special about his profile.
Edit 2:
Has anyone noticed a clicking sound which sometimes happens whenever the camera is opened? It sounds as if something near the camera is physically clicking
any other droid 2 owners have these problems?
You're totally right about the 3G going in and out. I'm in my basement and when I'm on a call, it actually drops. Last night I called my g/f back from my house phone, and the bars jumped from 1 back to 4. Sometimes I get that 1X instead of 3G.
The phone totally has potential, I just hope a root comes out soon and we have a lot of room to play with. I came off the Motorola Cliq to the Droid 2 and honestly, even with my Cliq rooted, it seems way superior to the quality I'm getting on the Droid 2.
Let alone that the service provider is Verizon, the service should be the best... The only good thing I can say about the phone is that I'm able to watch flash videos off the web, and the new games coming out are actually playable without lag. Other than that, Tethering without root is like having PDAnet on my phone. I use EasyTether right now and it's not much faster that PDAnet. I also hope when root drops, j_r0dd from modmymobile gets his hands on it, I missed my white on black theme and I prefer the Droid X bootanimation on my start up.
have you tried the manual update to 2.2.20? I experienced the signal bug having my reception drop to 1x while it was 3g a minute before and the phone wasn't moved, but after i did the manual update to 2.2.20 by going to system -> software update i haven't seen it since.
With the unlock screen, I at first noticed lag but after reading motorolas recommendations on how a smartphone is like a computer and it should be shut off / rebooted occasionally, i did shut down a couple times and the phone is very smooth now and the unlock animation is perfect.
try shutting down the phone and unplugging the battery for a little and then put the battery back in and let it boot up. I believe the phone uses some kind of cache system that loads up frequently used items on startup, maybe that is why its smooth now.

The update did nothing for me =/... I've rebooted countless times, still nothing , the next thing that really aggravates is the text message limit... smart phones are supposed to have practically unlimited sms/phone book storage. I still can't find a way around it .
Biggest problems are the reception issues, considering it's most probably a hardware issue and no update will fix it=(

I don't know what to say, it was laggy when i first got the phone and after a few shutdowns and restarts over a couple days and a shutdown battery pull for 10 minutes and a reboot and its been perfect ever since. seems like you don't know what your doing.
Bull****. The slider to answer calls is smooth. The lockscreen is not and rebooting it does not fix it. Post a video so I can believe you. I even reset the phone and it didn't help.

I've had my Droid 2 since the release day, my first Verizon phone. I have to agree with the lock screen lag, but I have noticed something interesting with the reception issues. I'm new to verizon so I don't know if this happens with other verizon android phones but when I first wake the phone up from sleep I have one to no bars then 5-10 seconds later I usually have 4-5 bars. It seems as if the cdma radio/software goes into a type of power save mode durring sleep to save on battery power. If this is the case I can imagine the issue could be something to do the the power save mode hanging when the system wakes up, also power save mode could be a little too sensitive.
Now my inferences are completely unfounded in any knowledge other than my observations, and some basic knowledge of porting android to my old Att Tilt. If there is someone out there who knows more please correct me as I would love to stand corrected.

Yup same here, the slider to answer calls is fine. I've come to a conclusion its just a buggy OS moto prepared quickly. Let's hope for a real update soon.

My 3G as of now seems to have fixed itself this morning . Has this happened for anyone else ?
after doing the 2.20 update my signal problems were all fixed and the phone works increible!!!
yes there is a little clicking sound when you go to the camera. If you look into the camera lends as you open the camera app you can see it sorta move a tiny bit so there might be some protectivething over the camera lens somewhere inside there but that is just a guess.

your asking for a lot right now. I'm not 100% sure what yours looks like but my animation at first was choppy. I noticed it the first couple times I used my phone. However after a few shutdowns and battery pulls the lock screen seems to be pretty smooth and it follows my finger with no lag.
I have also removed all the Motorola widgets from my home screens, not sure if that had something to do with it.
The 2.2.0 update did nothing whatsoever to fix my signal issues. Still getting wide variations in coverage and signal (1bar 1x RTT to 1 bar 3g to 3-4 bars 3g all from the same spot in multiple areas)
Have you tried using another launcher like launcher pro, it fixed the lag with my unlock screen, I think the blur uses up too much memory.

The update did nothing to fix my signal issues. I don't have a problem with lag except in the gallery.
I called customer server to complain about the reception problems. The rep I talked to said Verizon is aware of the reception problems, but they aren't sure if it's the phone or the network.
He said there are other people in my area complaining of reception problems that don't have the Droid 2. He also mentioned something about areas that were mostly Alltel that are having problems. He did something on his end that is suppose to block some kind of signal having to do with Alltel and had me run the PRL update again, he said it could take up to 2 days for me to notice a difference if that was the problem.
I was also told to log each dropped call by dialing ### send.
I noticed something odd, yesterday I did a factory reset, after rooting. When I started to set everthing up I turned off the battery manager in settings, and since then it appears if all my reception issues have disappeared.

Is that something you can configure after a factory reset without root?
Yeah, if you go to settings, battery manager, battery mode, and set it to performance. Let me know if you notice anything different.

Ah, I've always been running mine in performance mode. Did a factory reset last night and still nothing. This is really getting frustrating.
To all in this thread,
I forgive those who are ignorant and just don't know. However, if you are purposely ignorant then please stop posting.

3G only shows and lights up if data transfer is occurring or if you have no 1X signal. The signal bars jump because the radio is not always transferring data (over 3G) and therefore you see it grab the signal (0-1 bars) then get full signal (3-4 bars depending on coverage of course) and once finished, bye bye.
This saves you battery. It is truly a SMARTphone. It also keeps bandwidth available to those also using a Motorola D2 and wondering the same thing.

I noticed this as well. Could be too much going on since you just turned your screen back on and apps are trying to update for you. Kind of like how you quickly pull your pants back up as your g/f is walking in the door and you act like nothing happened, but you were totally going to town.

If there isn't a setting in the Text Messaging application then no. Possible solutions are to look for an app or keep hanging around here.

It's only stupid until you get used to it. Then it's annoying. Then it's silly. Then you'll find a way to get around the issues or an update will fix them.

Try another Voice app or sync all your contacts with Google.

Facebook syncing has issues - sometimes really weird issues. It's a problem across all phone OS's.

G2 Locking up and strange cursor behavior

I got my G2 today, and I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't messed too much with the hinge, but it seems pretty solid and I'm not very worried about it.
However, this evening, after a few hours of usage, I noticed the phone locked up hard, twice, within 30 minutes of each other. Within another 30 minutes, it rebooted itself spontaneously. This has me pretty worried, but I was in an area of the house where I only get edge, and reception goes in and out frequently. So its possible some type of radio reset thing was going on causing it to crash.
If that is the problem, I can probably deal with it. Hopefully its not a sign of a larger problem.
Another annoying thing happened to me later in the evening when I was trying to write an email. The cursor kept moving to different widgets on the screen or moving the text cursor up and down and left and right while I was writing the email, almost as if an invisible person was playing with the arrow keys. I realized I was sitting in such a way that the optical mouse was pointed directly at my ceiling light, so I'm guessing that was the problem, when I moved, I think the problem went away.
Anyway, just a word of caution to be on the lookout for similar behavior.
Let me know if you've seen anything like this with your G2.
Im having the same problem. I guess its just the way it senses "touch" (or light).
See my thread in this section (G2 Light Sensor Trackpad Issue), I can't post links yet. But there is a video in there showing why.
I think I can live with the cursor sensitivity, now that I know what it is and that other people have the same problem, I can just move the phone a bit and it will go away.
Its also something that can be tweaked or fixed in software hopefully.
The locking up / crashing worries me. If its just a bug with going in and out of radio signal, they can fix that in software too, but if it is a hardware problem, I'll be pretty pissed.

Problems

I got the Atrix on Wednesday an am already considering returning it. I love the hardware. As a "phone" it's great, call quality, volume, clarity....all excellent. GPS is spot on perfect.....but I keep having strange problems.
Firstly the screen just randomly stops responding until I hold the power button down/restart. This has happened 5 times since Wednesday and I can't figure out what's causing it.
Secondly I have lost data connection 2 times and had to reboot to get it back, I noticed a few other people have had this problem as well.
Thirdly, tonight I lost all cell signal in a spot where I normally have near full 3G, I waited for about 20 minutes to see if it would come back up....after it didn't I rebooted and was back to full signal.
Lastly.....and this just happened....I got a text message and instead of playing the notification alert it has always used it picked a random mp3 and played the whole thing.
Is the phone possessed or what? Am I the only person who is having these kind of problems?
I have experienced none of these. I'd take it back.
Take it back. None of those here either

Texting issue is driving me insane!

Hi all,
I'm using the Virtuous rom right now on a Bell Desire Z. When I'm texting, sometimes the screen moves up a bit so that the cursor and my writing is closer to being off the screen. Shortly afterwards it moves up again and it shows previous text messages and not what I'm currently typing. In short, it constantly prevents me from typing my current message until I move the screen back down to the text box. It is absolutely driving me insane right now as I frequently have to stop in while typing to fix this. Sometimes it happens many times per text and other times none at all, but it does appear to be happening more often.
Is there any solution to this? Is it the ROM?
Mine was doing the same thing I suspect it's a rom issue. I switched back to cyanogenmod couldn't stand it as I type allot.

Cellular signal gets strong when I turn the phone f/vertical to horizontal

Did a factory reset 2 months ago.
main issue is it will hang on any web/page/link with 1 bar signal. A few seconds after turning it horizontal, it will get 4+ bars and behave like I turned on cell data and continue. I can't use the phone all the time in horizontal. Keyboard app is very big and uses almost the whole screen. From covid my stress levels are through the roof and have very shaky hands. I was admitted to psychology ward from too much stress a few. Months back
Anyone have this problem?
Will factory reset. I use work wifi with no issue at all. Never hanging or no internet working. Might be an antenna issue. I'll try to pay attention but outdoors no issues. Indoors seems to be the issue. I've captured this with another phone. Ironic... I hold it vertically and it has 1 bar and hangs....turn horizontal and it goes to 4-5 bars and internet kicks in
