Feedback for froyo nand android - Android Software Development

Hello,
First congrats for developing a successfull android OS. But I didn't like few things which are better in Windows.only couple of things...
1.android baterry back up is less
2.there are no buttons in the keyboard to go left and right which is very usefull when you go for edit before call. Now in android when you go for edit before call either you have to delete the whole number or you have to call as it is because as soon as you tap the number which you want to edit phone makes a call.
3.storage means installation should be made on SD card which gives more space for installation.
4.rest every thing is fine and I am very proud to install this OS rather than Windows.

How to remove HTC branding on HD2 (T-Mobile - US phone)

(reposted to a more relevant subforum)
Hello All,
It's probably a stupid question for most of the ppl here, but I need to know how to remove all that HTC branding and their eye candy. I'm working on some software and we will be using HD2 for a demo. The problem is that some phone manufactures hire retards that break very fundamental things in WinCE and that destroys my APP completely.
So, I simply want to know how to get rid of all their junk and have vanilla default WinMobile 6.5 installation on that phone.
For curious ppl: the problem with their software that i have is that the "X" button that meant to do some action doesn't do anything in my app, it simply minimizes it and my app doesn't get any notification that the "X" button was clicked. The Acer phone (also with snapdragon) at the beginning had an opposite problem, the 'X' button would always kill my app even if I handle WM_CLOSE/IDCANCEL messages properly, but with latest update that problem was fixed. Latest update in HTC/T-mobile still has that same problem and I absolutely have to find a solution asap. Using some cooked ROM is not an option (cannot be accepted by the customer).
If it's not very clear what I'm talking about: on some old old htc devices after factory reset I had to hold green and red call buttons on the first boot to prevent it from running operator branding junk. That's what I want to do on the HD2 phone from T-Mobile
Hi,
look at some of the ROMs here. There are some which contains only WM without Sense (what you call branding). Other way is just disable Sense in the Settings for the Home Screen and see if your application still does not work.
But to be honest, I guess it's more an issue of your application and WM 6.5 not a "branding" issue.
bye
Sven
It's the issue of that sense thing and has nothing to do with the os or my app itself. I'm not doing any quirks, I simply follow documented stuff on ms web site and it doesn't work.
The top bar that contains the 'X' button seems to be modified or subclassed by their junk code and that's why my app doesn't receive messages that it it receives just in every other mobile phone that I test with (6 and 6.5 WinMo, for 6.5 Acer s200, toshiba tg01, samsung omnia all work just the way they are expected to work). I absolutely can't use any other rom (I can take hummer and do whatever i want with my test device, but for the real demo at the customer site nothing like that can't even be discussed).
As was said, you can get roms without Sense at all, where Sense covers the majority of the HTC customization, or you can simply disable it in the Today Screen setup. Beyond that, if the X button is your only concern, get a task manger and force its behavior to what you want.
The stock HD2 doesn't have a task manager or any change to the smart minimize behavior, so the message sent when the X is hit should be WM_ACTIVATE with parameters fActive = WA_INACTIVE and nonzero fMinimized. If you're used to seeing a WM_CLOSE message, those are WinMo installs where the Smart Minimize button has been customized to close, rather than the HD2 being the modified environment. The stock HD2 does, on the other hand, have a very aggressive memory recovery config that practically allows only one program running at a time. That aggressive OOM killer is why the smart minimize was left at default behavior.
That's what I figured after testing that it has that horrible smart minimize. What about poor guys like me who don't like smart stuff at all? What that aggressive memory recovery thing you mentioned? What does that mean? All current devices have way more memory than os 6 can allow to be used. All shared dlls in total take like 10MB nowdays that leaves all the apps with like 20MB addressable ram. That's the problem and aggressive memory recovery sounds like some buzz word that has no meaning in the real life (unless I'm a total noob and fail to see the "smart" part in the aggressive memory config
Any way I can disable smart minimize? By the way, I figured that I can workaround that smart crap: I made a test app and it works as expected, the only difference is that my app uses different window style flags which seem to trigger smart behavior.

That worked perfectly!
I tried to check HTC task manager : http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htc-task-manager-v2-0.html
and it did exactly what I wanted. It did not modify anything, it did not add that manager as shown on the download page but it simply disabled smart minimize thing and it's now working as expected/required.
thanks for help!

Changing OS of HD2

Hey,
Is there any way you can change the OS from Windows Mobile to another OS? I love the HD2 but it can be really sluggish at times that I can only assume to be the OS. I'd love to put Android on it but apparently its not yet been done.
Is there anything else it can be changed to or any way to speed up the phone as even with no background applications running it can slow right down when navigating the phone or writing a text etc
Thanks
If you'd done a search you would've had an answer already, no, no android, as of yet and probably not.

Have you looked over at custom ROM flashing in the ROM Development forum?
One thing alot of people who have not used a phone that actually Multi-Tasks, seem to miss ...
If you are running an app, hitting the home button does not close the app, it is still running ...
The HD2 and WinMo can really run lots of apps at the same time, and if you get way to many running the phone can feel sluggish ...
I have a friend that has an HD2 got his when I got mine, I got it all slimmed down for him with a custom rom , he still complained about it "Slowing Down" ..
He came from an IPhone, so every time he wanted to leave and app he just hit the home button, the other night he was complaining about his phone being slow I checked the task manager and he had 9 apps running , including 2 games(memory hogs) ..
Even if you do not do a custom rom, at least install a good task manager something like ArkSwitch or along those lines ...

[Q] Android 2.2 "Froyo" Cyanogen

Hi, thanks to everyone that got this working. I had time over Christmas and gave it a go and have found Android to far better show off the HD2 than the rather limited and buggy Windows 6.5 we were given with device.
Couple of questions though:
I do seem to have issues with the phone switching itself off when running Android if it's been 'asleep' for a while, not all the time, but here and there.
Also, the power on button/call hang-up (on the right) doesn't always bring the phone to life. It can take a press, then wait for it to fail to come to life - the buttons light up and then go off after a few seconds - then press it again and I'm in.
Are there any updates to this, as I am loving having Android running on the HD2, as it is much more smoothly integrated, as far as seeing the news headlines slickly open at a touch and then a simple back press to go back to the headlines, same for Twitter, Facebook etc, really great.
I definitely want to keep using it on the phone but today again I had an issue where it froze and then when I restarted Android the widgets said 'unable to display/load widget' or something like that and I had to bin them and re-add them, no major shakes I admit but a more solid build would be great if there is one?
I've now backed-up with Titanium, as per some posts on XDA and so am just wondering if anyone can suggest bug fixes for what I have running or else a build that is as free as it can be of any issues???
I am running:
HTC HD2 (UK)
Android 2.2 (booting from SD card)
Baseband Version 15.40.50.07H_2.12.50.02_2
Kernal 2.6.32.9
Mod CyanogenMod-6.0.0-N1(shubCRAFT 1.5_by shu8i)
Hope that info helps. Please go easy with the tech talk. I can keep up if the steps are easy enough, so a "put this folder there" kind of reply would be super appreciated!
p.s. i got my install info from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeBKnm8Tkfc which supplies link to shubCRAFT_v1.5_STOCK
p.p.s. CyanogenMod has a site, as per following link, but which of these fits the HD2 as it's not listed and how do you then update it? http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/files/category/1-stable-mod/
advice on stable builds please
Doesn't anyone have any advice???
I see on YouTube someone has posted a video showing a proper install of Android on the phone memory, overwriting I assume the Windows 6.5. I'm happy to do that if everyone gives green light and says it's stable???
All/any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Need help setting up Android

I'm still trying to get used to the NAND DesireHD build and coming from NRG's ROMs this Android gig is something different. I use my phone primarily for business and personal needs (I'm not a gamer) and got rather used to using CHT and having information on my main screen. However, I'm noticing that Android works differently with applications and some things are confusing me. Maybe y'all can get me pointed in the right direction on these general questions and needs.
1) How do we turn off the damned unlocker screen? I'm tired of having to swipe every time I turn the phone on.
2) Is there an Android equivalent of the WM "Today" screen? I want to see my stuff at a glance instead of going to the calendar.
3) Where did my running program(s) go? Isn't there some sort of task switcher that I can get to without having to go back to my home screen, tap on the applications button and start the application again?
4) While I'm on the subject of running apps, is there any sort of utility that will enable me to go back to the previous screen, or jump to home via me an icon at the top of the screen or a gesture? I don't want to have to constantly hit the hard buttons, it's just not intuitive.
5) Isn't there an easier way to find applications than looking for them via the handset?
6) Can someone recommend an 'install to sd card' application to preserve the precious internal memory on Euro model HD2's?
That's it for now. I'm just trying to get Droid running more or less the way I'm used to it on WM and with all the apps and widgets, most of which seem to be crap, beta or of questionable value, I'm looking to those with experience.

Slow Dialer, Contacts and phonebook takes more tha 10 secs to load!!!! HELP

Just got my S$ upgraded to the lates version in my country which is 4.2.2 when I click on the dialer icon the screen freezes for 10 secs and it shows the numbers but when you press the numbers notheing happens and I guess when the program completely loads suddenly all the numbers pop up and aside from that whenever I type in a name in the messages or the contacts menu to look up someone to message or call it takes to long to load that my screen turns black and which I need to go back until I get the proper contact to be able to do some action with.... I know how to lenghten the time before it goes into energy saving mode or for screen to turn back but this is the exact problem I was staying away from since opting to get the Iphone 5... Since this has the best hardware as of the moment but to lag and freeze and sometimes even crash the phonebook or message app is ridiculous..... Sure you can do a lot of cool stuff but if it can't do this and the answer to my solution is to wait for an update just for a simple task of calling or messaging someone Samsung really brought out a half baked product. Hope you guys can help me with this because everytime I want to call or text someone I just do it on facebook a nokia 5110 would do better than this as far as calling and messaging.... Have they focused to much on the advanced features that they didn't fix the most basic elements of the phone. I had the HTC sensation, iphone 3 before that then this.. Since I'm into computers and pro open source I opted to stict with the android... but this is really pushing me to switch to Apple (who I hate but is really efficient at doing things its supposed to) or windows 8.
Help me with this problem so I don't give up on androids for my next phone I'd rather have a phone that is working lag free than the latest phone with the best specs that can't even do what it's supposed to do, basically reducing it to a bar of soap....

Hey this isn't an issue with the phone....its a problem with the update....there are a few things you can try out
1. Go to settings and go to application manager in the last tab....scroll to the 4th tab in the app manager...which is All.....and find your contact and contact storage apps.....clear their memory (note this will delete all your contacts....so backup) and retry accessing contacts as usual.
2. Usually the first step helps...if it doesn't... try to do a factory reset of your phone.....(This will delete all your app data....so backup)
3. You could also try to reflash the same firmware or a better update via odin.... Google and XDA are your friends so search the forums....there are many good tutorials.
4. Finally if you still feel like this isnt the answer...i suggest you to root your phone and install a new custom firmware....lots of good tutorials and roms on the XDA forums so check it out. If you dont know about rooting....approach with caution as this will void your warranty....
So try these out...hope it gave you some idea good luck!!
