On the right track, Froyo released for Fascinate and Vibran - Epic 4G General

At least Samsung hasn't completely given up on the Galaxy S line. A release for the Epic should be imminent.
http://www.khabrein.info/news/Samsu..._and_Vibrant_Android_2_2_rolls_in_1296612576/

"AT&T’s Samsung Epic 4G and Sprint Nextel’s Samsung Captivate are two other Galaxy S phones in the country. Both Epic and Captivate will kick off to receive Android 2.2 or Froyo not much later. Users of the entire Samsung Galaxy phones have complained to Samsung and their carriers regarding the delay to bring up firmware update."
Not sure I'd take this with much credit giving the lack of knowledge of what network has the right phone in their review. I'll believe it when I see it on my friends Fascinate.

No it's an older beta, but it's a month newer than what we have for our Epics.

I'll believe it when I see it
The news article have cried wolf too many times about this so going to go with "I'll believe it when I see it" routine.
I was tempted to go ahead and update my Epic to the leaked DK28 Froyo but will wait a couple more weeks to see if they finally push this OTA.

I voted gingerbread because its my hope!
Well, Sammys galaxy mobile usa twitter feed is still saying 2.2 by the end of the month. I'm going to say A but hope for C. I follow GalaxySSupport on twitter. Its funny because a lot of people are complaining and asking when 2.2 will come.

I had to pick the closest thing to nothing. Well, actually, Eclair.
we'll be running 2.1 for sure.
We will get gingerbread when my crap turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert.
Either
1) whatever we are running now (reverted back to D18 myself)
2) whatever we load and upgrade to ourselves
Didn't vote, didn't have these choices, but I'm happy with my Epic, so whatever happens, beats the c--p out of my Pre.

Why do I get a funny feeling that they'll release Gingerbread around Christmas time? This is based on absolutely nothing more than an unsubstantiated hunch that they will release a "seasonal flavor" of Android during the appropriate season. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL!
I dont know about unofficially..but no phone is getting gingerbread this year...its not going to happen..if you look at history of Froyo, Eclair..name one phone other then the Nexus One that got an update within a month? heck even 2 months?
As for Froyo..no reason why we wont see it by en of the year.

I guess in my scenario, I'm seeing Samsung skipping Froyo altogether and going straight to Gingerbread.

I still think it won't be until February/March. Kinda ironic that t-mo is the first to release the update since they were the ones that came under fire for allegedly holding up 2.2 until the fascinate 4G came out.. hmmm..
You never know. Sprint likes to be "the first" at things. Maybe this will put pressure on them to roll out froyo sooner then later as well.

I can promise you that we won't get 2.2 before the Captivate. Past that, I have no idea. It seems the problem is really getting the CDMA differences worked out. That said, I'd hate to be a Continuum user right now.
Probably only because of the backlash about Samsung holding it in order to sell more Vibrant 4Gs.

Anyone here file a class action? I actually believe that Brodman guy when he said that they just weren't aware that timely updates are very important to users. Google has introduced a new paradigm with their frequent OS updates, and I don't think the carriers have really considered updates a top priority. One thing is for certain, flood their Facebook pages and Twitter accts. I'm pretty certain that anytime anything regarding any topic is posted anywhere regarding T-Mo, a flood of Vibrant users respond with calls for the Froyo update.
And I guess the best thing is if you can get something written up in one of the big tech media sites. The carrier execs may not be reading XDA, but they sure start running for the mikes when they get a black eye in Engadget or TechCrunch.
Sprint has tweeted that the Epic will get Froyo ASAP, but this isn't new . I'm still going to hope that T-mobile will pressure Sprint to roll out Froyo.

ASAP huh? That could be tomorrow or a year from now depending on whenever they feel it's "possible".
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If it really is true, based on what the Tmo CMO stated, that the hold up is caused by the carriers needing to add whatever software they think we need. Well, that's just ridiculous. They should just stop messing with apps not everyone wants on their phones and just release Froyo or whatever is in the pipelines. Perhaps we should start a campaign to get manufacturers and carriers to move closer putting stock android on their phones. Just a thought.

Please delete this thread

Mods. Please delete this. The date has already passed. FroYo will come out never. Done.
the skeptic in me will remain skeptical until i see something from sprint, but thank you for the info i have some hope since t-mo has their update available, maybe sprint will be more motivated to end the bad press and user backlash... time will tell.

I don't really care much about a timeline for Gingerbread atm. I just want to be able to test my own Adobe AIR apps on my own phone. Once I can do that, I'll be happy.
I doubt.it will be this Tuesday cause every article I read says they have no clue when update will be given just that it will be soon. This sounds like the 12/26 thing again where all these people had the inside informants and it was def. Happening. Look where that went

Just for the record,I never said Tuesday, and 12/26 was deffinitly the planned release date at one point. So I wouldnt doubt sources, things dont always work out... And just because the update is not in the playbook does not mean we wont see one next week OTA... But I will say this for sure, source "Talks around the water cooler say everyone should be updated by 1/31/2011",so that tells me that roll out should start on or before 1/26/2011,so Tuesday or Wednesday... Again Im not gonna call that the date this time, because I already see the flame throwers coming out of the wood work.

Probably never...it's been suggested that manufacturers will be skipping 2.3 and just move to 2.4.
And Sprint won't be releasing anything anyway, this is all on HTC.
Manufacturers make the updates, send to carriers, carriers approve and and bloatware apps and release.
Yeah 2.4 sorry, so probably not then? Wow that's lame.

I thought he was saying regardless of htc having a 2.3/2.4 update sprint will just be all natzi about it and not give it to us after they have ruined it via, bloatware and other disgusting apps. Galaxy S Gingerbread OTA Rolling out in Europe???

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/31/galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-lands-in-the-uk-better-late-than-ne/
I see this is already posted, but why is Engadget just picking this up? Is this a bigger deal now? I know we're U.S. CDMA, so does that mean this new OTA means absolutely nothing for us? Until it officially comes to the U.S. eventually? With how long the 2.2 update took I'm really nervous we'd never get an update but if they're already rolling out across Europe... anyone know anything else? I'm getting my Fascinate on Friday!!!
This isnt for us at all. We will get GB, but not for awhile (my guess is September/october)

Nothing to flash, it's an OTA update. The link is just a link to the Engadget story. And looks like GB 2.3.3 is being pushed out not 2.3.4. Don't know the difference, but I know there is a 2.3.4 out there.
Sooner or later someone will put it in flashable form so I figured I would just throw that out to save (mostly you guru's) someone the pain of "I flashed i9000 GB..." threads

its so ridiculous how fast manufacturers push out new devices. yay you have the latest and greatest! and you just shat all over everyone who's had your phone for a year. wtf man. ha. i had an eris, and really don't think this phone should ever be in the same boat as that phone. never should've bought that eris, should've gone straight to the Droid 1. so does no one do GSM to CDMA conversions? They did a couple for my Eris (thank you punk.kaos) and for the Droid 1, the "Mobile Networks" option was usually the only thing not working eventually. I'm new the fascinate, actually not getting mine till tomorrow, but I'm really eager to get a truly open phone. my droid 2 was killing me bro. oh well, so long as we get gingerbread eventually. and honestly if CM7 is ready before the end of June, who needs an OTA? lol, yeah. If you look at the calendar, it's a giant wheel.
They probably thought "Hey, instead of adding ANOTHER ring to this, why don't we just create a new calendar once 2012 rolls around?"
