I have enabled 3g from my service provider.
But don't know how to change the settings on htc wildfire
Also why don't the network option display HSDPA but shows WCDMA ?
It still shows "E" when I connect.

Go to settings-wireless and network-mobile networks-network modes and select wcdma only.
Reply if this works.

Nope its not working
I tried even GSM or WCDMA auto still it doesn't detect the network

Then you should contact your service provider. I think your 3G is not yet activated. Or maybe you don't have the apn setting right. But I use the same apn settings for both 2G and 3G.
Hit thanks if this helps you.

Is there a way to add a toggle to turn off the 3G and only use 2G/Edge? I get ****ty reception at work and found that when I disable my 3G on my HD2 winmo, it more than doubles my battery life while at work then I turn it on again when I leave.
I have tried a couple of toggle wigets from market but they either dont only turn off 3g, or do nothing more than just bring up the sttings page where I still cant do it.
I only want to use 2G while at work as the 3G reception is poor and the radio uses lots of juice trying to establish a 3G connection.
Thanks,
Jeff
ignore my sig, I will change it soon.
Settings, wireless&networks, mobile networks, network mode, set it to gsm only. Wcdma is 3g, gsm is edge.

Thanks, but are you sure that only disables 3G and leaves 2G alone? I read somewhere that on GSM you only have voice and text messages.
I installed an app called Extended Controls and now I have to do a hard reset as I have no data connection.
Can you try this for me, put it on gsm only and see id you can still surn internet?
Thanks,
jeff
I promise it works lol. Mine is set that way right now and I'm using the 2g internet

Thank you, it seems to be working, but I had to hard reset to get my data back after installing that extended controls widget to toggle 3g with 2g. man, I really wish that worked.
And I apologize for asking a question in the wrong forum.
Jeff
No problem, I'm glad to help. Sucks that the widget forced a hard reset on you though. What happened?

hi i came from a mytouch slide and i was able to set the network to 2g or 3g or even both at the same time. is there a way to turn off 2g on the g2? or even turn off HSPA+ and only use 3g? i've been looking around and can't seem to find anything on this. i'm not rooted but if i need to be that will be fine.
Have you tried dialing#*#*4636*#*#?

Yes. The easiest way is to go to the phone dialer and type in:
*#*#4636#*#*
This will take you to a menu.
1) Choose "Phone Information"
2) Scroll down and there is a drop down menu.
Default is "WCDMA Preferred" --- Which is 3G/2G with 3G preferred.
You may choose WCDMA only for 3G only or Edge for 2G only.
I don't think you can turn off hspa+ but you can just go to settings ---- wireless--- mobile networks--- and just check 2g only for edge and leave it off for 3g/H+

... hspa+ ***IS*** 3g.... so you apparently want to choose between 3g and 3g? Can't happen.
it can be done but requires a reboot. You will need to add/change the setting "hsxpa=0" in the build.prop. this will remove the "4g" also you may need to change lines that referance the ril libraries to remove the reference to "rilswitch". But that might just be with cm6...

In Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks... It defaults to WCDMA in Network Mode. Change this to WCDMA and GSM.
It went from one bar to no coverage indoors and two bars outdoors to full bars everywhere on Orange.
? Mine was that as standard

Oops. I've flashed mine and network unlocked it. The first time I actually got service, subsequent to unlocking it, it was on this setting.
Hi guys from 2-3 weeks I'm unable to connect to wcdma network that means the mobile shows only E(Edge) sign but NO H(HSDPA) sign. I have cm7(2.3.5) rom and baseband switcher 4.0. I had no problem using the wcdma n/w but suddenly it's not accessible and I'm stuck with this slow edge n/w. Help me ouy guys its hard to live without internet.

Come on.. I'm not a newbie. I know all the settings. I have posted this question because after all the settings correct, still I'm getting this problem.
I'm getting mega problems network goes weird this can only be fixed by setting network to only wcdma which doesn't stick on reboot I think this Is how three uk work as they really only use 3g or above only, has Google thought this out and why have they blocked network settings on reboot
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone information, set network type, select what you want see if that helps.
