Need help creating ODIN restore files for (Galaxy S Showcase) - Android Software Development

I dumped the full system partition with :
adb shell
cat /dev/block/stl9 > /sdcard/showcase_system.rfs
it created a 300,000KB and something file (i don't have it on this computer to give you specifics)
But i was told that it would be possible to use ODIN to flash this file back to stock, as I did this before changing kernels or anything else. I was only rooted..
Can anyone help me out on figuring this out? My goal is to make a ODIN restore for Showcase users since we don't currently have one...
Thanks..

Seriously no one?

Un-Root my Hero

I need to take my Hero back to factory specs because I'm taking it into a sprint store tomorrow. What all do I need to do... should I just flash my original rom back on there or can I download a rom from htc and it will clear everything? I understand I need to flash a new recovery image too.
Thanks
oh also, I'm running FreshRom.

You can flash the original rom back on there and be fine. They wont EVER press Home+power and boot into recovery.
If you really want to go back to default.. Run this RUU

after you run this can you re-root?. im new to android and i want to be able to restore to factory settings whenever after root just so i can re-root and practice it, as well as know how to fix it if i do something stupid or just brick the darn thing.
like i said im new and not good with forums where can i get a copy of the original rom? i would like to have that before i attempt to root.
also kinda off topic but do i have to be rooted to make nanoid backup. i would also like to have that before i root.

Yes you can re-root after running the .5 RUU
the original rom is contained in the RUU program linked above
You don't have to be rooted to make a nandroid backup, though you do need to flash a custom recovery image. Being rooted means that you basically have administrator access on your phone, can run things like wifi tether and can overwrite the /system/ folder. A recovery image is a little different than that...
ok thanks, i know root is just admin, but a lot of root guides have you flash a recovery image, by doing that you replace the original recovery image? the one that takes you back to factory reset? thats what im not sure about and im really nervous about changing that and messing it up and bricking my device, thought one forum said its almost imposable to brick.
ok so i have that RUU and another one i download. do i just run it or do i need to have a specific program on my pc?
i know i need to Google it and just search the forums but i don't have a lot of time on my hands right now.
If you're planning on going back to root, don't run the .6 RUU. I don't think it's rootable. At least that was the case when it came out. .5 IS rootable.

Menu - settings - about phone - software information - software number.
If it is .6, who cares. You can get root by going to the development section and finding the root guide written by regaw_leinad, and the solution for software number .6 is in there, too. Dunno why people make it out to be such a bad thing to have .6... seriously.

Exactly. .6 isn't rootable yet but you are losing nothing by flashing back to .5 except for the patch they released to fix root exploit. What a waste of time for them.

But thats after you run the RUU.exe I meant how do you know what version of the RUU.exe coincides with what version of the software with out installing or running it. I am still a little confused on what I need to do with the RUU.exe and or what it dose. I have been searching the forums but there is not a Good sticky or wiki about it, its only the definition. I am assuming it re-installs a fresh copy of whatever that version of the OS is, but i don't know for sure.

sorry I am such a noob and thanks for the help but i just want to clarify that .6 stands for 1.6 or donut?
-Thanks for helping the noob!!!
2.27.651.5 is the original Hero update.
2.27.651.6 is the update that was released solely to disable the ability to root.
The RUU for each was released by Sprint/HTC and flashed your phone from 1.5 to 2.whatever.
If you root, then you can run any of these to revert back to the stock Sprint image. If you chose to go to 2.27.651.6 then the only way to re-root would be to flash back to 2.27.651.5 which would only be a pain in the bum.
Since 2.27.651.6 gives you nothing but the inability to root then it only makes sense to revert to .5.
If this makes no sense to you...feel free to give up on rooting altogether. If it does then good luck.
BTW I only figured out how to root on Monday so these forums are most excellent..if you take the time to search through them.
Thanks its starting to make sense, right now I'm software 2.1 update 1 or 2.6 so i just have to go back to 2.5 . once i have more time i will thanks for the explanation! yes this site is the best and yes i need to search more.

[REQ] Flashable .zip re-partitioner

Hello..I would like to ask if anyone here could make a flashable .zip ile that would revert partitions to the samsung stock type, as if done via odin..I wanted to try cm7, but at times i go for weeks away from home and do not have my pc/laptop for alot of that time to use odin..So if there was a such .zip i could just flash that, and then any samsung based custom rom (that is because cm7 changes partitions).Thank you.
U don't need anything? Just flash a stock rom and u'r cool?

If you are on CM7 or MIUI, you must flash a stock rom with Odin + pit/repartition in order to restore the partitions to Samsung's BML instead of the MTD layout used in CM7.
I think this request is a great idea although I'm not sure it it's possible.

i can download my roms from the phone and if i could re-partition too, it would be invaluable

Ideas for rerooting 6.2.1 update

Okay so the Kindles 6.2.1 update brought about gingerbread 2.3.6 from my understanding which patches the zergrush exploit. Here are some of my brainstorming ideas on ways that we can obtain root again.
1.) Some sort of flashing software to downgrade such as Odin/Heimdall (these work on samsung things so im not sure as to the viability of using these utilities on kindle.
2.) Perhaps there is a way we can use the OTA update method that amazon uses to issue a fake OTA update with a rooted image. This method to me sounds good but would probably require alot of work: like discovering how the amazon OTA updates are issued and ways that we can abuse and attack that process.
does anyone else have any ideas that might be considered?
As a first, is there anyone, who has successfully been able to use ADB/fastboot on firmware 6.2.1? I've tried the usual driver mods - no luck. Same thing on Ubuntu, which is weird - a Linux machine should have seen the KF without issues.
I can adb, just can't zerg. I looked for exploits for a half hour and came up blank.
You need to be root to idme. I'm at a roadblock :/

If you have a fastboot cable you can use that to modify the recovery. Then you have all the access you need to root, theme, whatever.

I know of one case where someone says they used a factory cable and was able to use one of the pre-rooted stock Roms to get it going. If that's the case, then we have our answer boys!!!

now I dont know much about how to find exploits and stuff but I did download the stock update file and if you change it from .bin to .zip the structure looks like any other update zip just wil some extra stuff in it like the recovery image and such. could we just take the boot.img system directory and the other main system files from the rooted 6.2.1 and replace them in the stock update file and try to force it to re-update? once again just a thought after looking at the file.
It will fail the signature test in recovery if you tamper with the file. A factory cable is a useless method for rooting because nobody has one. We are looking for a method that doesn't require a cable

That only works with a custom recovery. Now if you can get your hands on the signature file that amazon signs their updates with then that's a different story.

Need Latest (MDL) system dump

As the title says, I am looking for someone on the latest MDL ota who could dump their system partition for me. Obviously, you would need to be rooted to do the dump but I need it clean with no system modifications other than root itself (ie;no busybox, adblockers etc). I do not own an s4 but need this dump to fill a request. You need to know how to use adb/terminal and its preferred (since i dont own this device) that you are familiar with how to do this. I look forward to hearing from someone who could help me out here.
Thanks

[help] no imei no baseband

First of all I'd like to express how I feel. I feel like crying! I honestly just spent my entire savings for this year to get my note III and now I have no idea how to get it back to work. Phone is working but IMEI is null and baseband is unknown.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and thought it would be a great idea to backup my EFS. I used EFS Professional v2.0.91 tool, and for some reason instead of backing up my efs this tool got rid of my imei and baseband. I have tried every solution there is and I reached a dead end and the point of I just wanna cry now! Please if anyone could help me!

OK I'll chime in here before you mess up your device due to advice that is very poor IMO.
The fire script only works if you lose your BASEBAND not your BASEBAND and IMEI!!!
By flashing the fire script it actually messes the device up more. And it should ONLY be run if you lose basband not IMEI/SN.
Read THIS thread and learn the risks, your device can be fixed, however you need to use ADB and be prepared for a bit of a headache to restore your IMEI.
People need to stop recommending that fire script until they know what the hell it actually bloody does.

Your issue would have been loss of BASEBAND not IMEI and BASEBAND, there is a HUGE difference. I suggest you learn the differences and how they vary before recommending a script that can ruin a device.
