Kaos Fryo leak help - Fascinate General

First off let me just say I wanted to post this in the thread but it said I haven't met some kind of requirement to post yet.
My question is I have read about rooting etc etc but being that this is my first time I didnt want to screw up so because Kaos's leak is pre rooted do I need to still root my phone or will this do it for me?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

No, the ROM is pre-rooted already so you don't need to root once installed.
However, the ROM is installed through Clockwork Recovery, so that means that you need to have ROM Manager and Clockwork Recover Mod installed, which, will require that your phone is rooted..
You can find the threads in this forum that show you how to install all that..
When using ODIN, be sure to use "PDA" and not "Phone".. if you use Phone, you will end up with a paper weight...
Good luck!

You need to root your phone first
will not be able to install

Thanks!!!

How do I root a fascinate when it's on 2.1 update 1?

I believe you can flash CWM via download mode w/ Odin, and then flash the 2.2 leak+kernel with that, so technically you don't need to be rooted to install this, provided you have access to the proper equipment.

SOrry this is a duplication. I asked in another thread but was stepped on by VooDoos and such.
I have a stock rom. It USED to show as DI01. I did figure out how to root it, and just now noticed that it is showing as DH12 (baseband version AND build number), no longer DI01.
So, I need to update it first, before I can install DL30, correct?
I have a DL09.tar.tar file.
I have ODIN3.exe.
I have the DL30-leak.zip.
I have no clue what a CWM is or how to use/install it.
Where can I find the steps to get me to DL30?
Thanks.

Waw. OK. If you are on a plain DH12 with no Clockwork Mod Recovery installed, then you need to do a lot of steps. I'm just going to give you a high level overview and not going into details. You find the details and make sure you understand.
1. Make sure you install USB drivers and that your computer can see your phone when plugged in.
2. Install ODIN in your computer
3. Use ODIN to flash the DL09.tar via PDA! (Very important!)
4. Once you are on DL09. Get the CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 and flash with ODIN via PDA. (never on Phone)
5. Get also the update.zip from that thread and put it in the root of your SD card.
6. Then go to Market and get ROM Manager, then install Clockwork Recovery through ROM Manager.
7. Now to install DL30: (look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499)
a. Get the "New" CWM .zip file and put it in your SD card.
b. Put the DL30.zip in your SDCard.
c. Boot into CW Recovery mode from ROM Manager, you should see the Green Clockwork Recovery mode.
d. Apply the new CWM .zip via "choose .zip from SD card"
e. Apply the DL30.zip same way.
f. Wipe data, cache and Devilk cache (in the Advanced menu).
g. Reboot.. and voila !
Lean how to use CWM first (how to navigate, etc).. Good luck!

Perfect. Yes, the details are out there for me to find, but not the high level like this.
Thanks.

How to get older version of ROM Manager?

I just formatted my phone back to factory settings. I am in the process of installing all my apps again and just realized I purposely never updated my ROM Manager to the latest version because of the new permission is asks for (the one that lets ROM Manager use your account authentication information). So, is there any way for me to download an older version of ROM Manager?
Thanks!

+1.. then you can install older version if you dont like.. built in on ROM Manager..
Thanks for the suggestions but I have my reasons for having strict access control on my phone.
Is it because you are a Dark Agent?
Yes, you got me.
Is there no way to download older version of apps from Market?

I send him two polite emails about Rom Manager, and he never to the time to answer. A bit sad somewehere.
What do you use ROM manager for? Use the update.zip for root and to install recovery and then use recovery for all of your flashing. I only used ROM manager one time to install recovery

GREAT, I AM ON JFD NOW - HOW DO I ROOT?
You are likely still connected to your PC and booted up to the T-Mobile jingle. Great, drop the notification bar down and mount your phone...
HERE ARE THE STEPS TO FOLLOW....
BUT FIRST... WHAT UPDATE.ZIP FILE DO YOU NEED?
There are two options here. Choose before you start.
A – an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs. There have been issues with CWR not flashing properly recently (June 2011), hence Option B.
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
So, A or B?
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
Also, download the ROM you plan to flash (assuming you are not sticking on JFD – why would you).
LINK TO THE DEV SECTION
2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3. Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4. In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5. It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now... I COVER HOW TO FLASH ROMS LATER – JUST KEEP READIN BELOW
Yeah, it is that easy!!
Click to collapse
Give S15724N a thanks. The first update.zip will just root you. The second with boot you into CWR so that you can flash a custom ROM (all of which have root)

Mac help w/ installing Super Clean ROM

OK so I have read, read, and read some more until I think I have totally confused myself to the point of beating my head on a table. Heres my deal. I have done the z4root on my fascinate, downloaded titanium backup and ROM manager. I have used the wireless tether and all that so I know I am rooted, also get the superuser request before launching things. Now... I would like to install the Super Clean ROM on my phone. When I go into ROM manager, I did the clockwork backup and it asked which phone I had, Fascinate and everything went ok. Then I did a backup, and it rebooted. Now I downloaded the ROM and picked what I wanted from the menu. Then it rebooted and would not install. I have a MAC if that means anything, and havent downloaded anything to my MAC bc I didnt see where I needed to? My ? is WTF do I have to do to make this work? I guess I need like an elementary explanation. Im pissed enough to just get rid of it honestly, and Im sure its something basic Im missing. PLEASE HELP!!!
Sounds to me like you dont have the cwmrecovery kernel installed. Need to use the thread that is stickied for how to root and install cwm.. download cwmrecovery.tar and flash in odin. Then you can reboot into recovery and apply update.zip to get into cwm and flash from there.
So, basically, you need to check out the stickied thread about how to root and install cwm. Make sure drivers for fascinate are installed on your computer. You can download from one of the stickied threads that lists the links to download and install fascinate drivers. Then download Odin and the proper .tar files to use in odin. Flash the cwmrecovery kernel from odin. Then reboot and use rom manager to reboot into cwmrecovery. If you done everything correctly, you'll see cwm come up with it's options. Use "install .zip from sdcard," then navigate to your rom .zip file and choose to flash.

if you have d109 the one click root doesnt work.. ur going to have to use adb and force push the files to your phone..
okay, how do I do that? sorry, I am new to this, and can't find the actual android debug bridge app, nor can I find how to use it to push the files with it properly.
now I'm really confused, I downloaded the sdk tools, which supposedly have adb in it, but cannot find it after having it download everything checked by default, wtf!?

Trying to help
what radio are you currently running? if DL09 dont worry about root. Let me know were you are at.
I'll walk you through it.
To root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470
1) Download and open ODIN
2) On your phone go to setting/applications/development and check usb debuging.
3) download the fascinate drivers on your computer and install them. they can be
here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SCH-I500RKAVZW
4) place the update.zip on your sd card
5) take the battery out of your phone and plug into your computer with the usb
cable.
6) hold the volume down button until a yellow triangle appears
7) place the ODIN file into the PDA section. NOT THE PHONE
8) start and wait til its finished.
9) put your battery back in, unplug and turn your phone on.
10) download superuser from the market. Note: the market it currently down for
some.
You are now rooted
2.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499
1) download the NEW CWM RECOVERY and DL30 rom and kernal and place them
on your sd card
2) turn off your phone
3) old down both volume buttons then the power button. Let go of the power
button and then the volume. This is take you to a blue or green. If it goes to
blue go to apply update.zip. this will take you to the green screen.
4) now just follow the steps 2-5 at the URL above

I'm on stock DL01 about to flash it to DL09 but I'm getting so confused on all the CMW. Could you post a link to the correct CWM for DL09 and then for DL30 please? Also, can you check over these steps.
1) Start: Stock DL01 (Rooted, No CWM)
2) Flash DL09.tar.md5
3) Install correct CWM for DL09 (Is this possible without rooting DL09 as you said?)
4) Flash DL30
5) Install correct CWM for DL30
6) Use CWM to delete data, cache, etc
7) Finish
roboliger see my post above (#5). the first one will give you CWM for DLO9. The second one will walk you through flashing DL30 (froyo). Make sure you clear data before and not after you flash DL30 and the new CWM.

It seems like your missing a bit, what happens with the update.zip that i put into the sd card?
I'm on vzw's dl09, I'll try those steps, thank you.
Ok so I Flashed DL09 Pda'd that clockwork thing then installed rom manager. Rom manager said i didnt root my phone yet and that it couldnt find superuser at /system/bin/su and i installed superuser.
I get all kinds of errors when trying to run clockworks rom manager. the one they noticed and it gives an error in flashing the old clockwork mod. not to mention I get: an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands! when I try to reboot into recovery mode.
Delete everything. Wipe your phone thru Settings/Privacy .. you will have to reactivate your phone.
Download this package: http://www.multiupload.com/C0HFVLSI22
Use ODIN to flash the package. THEN download Rom Manager from App Market and click Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. This will install the OLD CWM which is the cleanest and should not need to add the "update.zip". Reboot into Recovery and go from there .. install from zip etc. etc.

You shouldn't need the dl09 to get to dl30. I was on dl01 and went straight to dl30.
With a nice clean phone on dl01 flash the .tar file I posted via ODIN (PDA).
How long does the wiping data... in clockwork mod generally take? Mine has been at it for about 10mins or so...

[Q] I have a dilemma:

I'm trying to root my Continuum, but I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble.
I'm new to the android scene, and this is my first smartphone.
I was researching how to root it, and I decided I want to flash CMW on it.

I downloaded Odin, PDA'd the tar.md5 recovery, flashed it, and then put the update-i400.zip on my sdcard. I restarted my phone in recovery mode, and I was trying to install the update-i400.zip, and it won't let me. I've done both the tar.md5 and adryn's test4.tar, as well as renaming the .zip just 'update'
I'm lost, and need some help, please. I would've posted this in the development section, but being a noob, it won't let me. If anyone can help, that'd just be great.

good luck
bye the way you can check if you are rooted using terminal emulator from the android market
yes super one click worked for me select universal mode then rage against the cage and then hit root it might hang for a minute but it should reboot then check to see if theres an app called super user. once you see that your rooted.

Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
I used SOC and after phone rebooted no SU app so did again (as per instr. on xda) rebooted and SU installed. Also for CwM Ive had best luck using odin3 1.3, adryns test4 tar, cwm 2.5 update zip, but I still had to use menu softkey to apply zip. Right now I can use rom manager app to boot into cwm, it says 2.5.1 but it has red text?
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
You can flash the Odin ROM without root. That will root and install the proper kernel for you... then use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want to use.
Or you can flash the complete odin package for 2.2 thats on the Continuum Development section.
Which will also make your device rooted

You don't want to rename the rom zip. You have to use the Cyan CWM update.zip, which is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/cLdwKNsU/update.html
I don't know if the other links posted are for the same file, but that's the one that works with Froyo.
You must have the cwm update.zip on your flash card. When you start up in recovery, you'll need to select apply update.zip. Use the volume rocker to highlight update.zip, and tap the menu soft-key to select. Once in CWM, the power button is select, and the back soft-key is back. You'll want to select the menu option to install zip from sd card, select zip to install, and browse to where you saved the rom file.
If all else fails, I'll be uploading a super-clean debinged ROM in the next few days. Once it's up, just flash via Odin as you did with adrynalyn's cwm recovery image.

[Q] CMW success, SU fail :(

Hello, first time poster. I recently tried rooting my phone using CWM method. I'm running sph-l720 with software version vpaumf9 and android version 4.2.2. I installed CWM (this version SPH-L720 OUDHS Recovery) with odin with success. Then flashed SuperUser v.099. Everything went smooth until I opened up super user and tried to install binaries and it says "Install failed". I'm wondering if I didnt have the wrong beginning firmware and i needed to (but didnt) install that pre-kernel. I'm also wondering if I have to download the original firmware and have to flash to stock in order to "unroot" even though I didnt finish the SuperUser process, or is their a way to delete the super user app and try to install it again using the same CWM i have already on the phone. I hope this isn't confusing. I'm not a complete novice to rooting, but no expert. I rooted my galaxy s2 but went to Iphone for a while, but now I'm back and a little dissapointed with myself at this fail. Any suggestions? Do i have to go to stock first? Was I using the wrong files for my initial firm ware and need the pre kernel? Am I blabbering on? (yes) Thanks in advance.

Grap CF-Autoroot from here
Follow the instructions here:
Boot back to phone. Open up SU and update binaries.
Then
Go to Playstore and download/install GooManager
Open GooManager and then press the 'menu' button (capicitive button next to Home Button) and choose to install recovery (I like TWRP).
Then let it do it's thing.
If you'd like a real easy way to get 'into recovery mode' from the phone I use the Quickboot app
Also make sure that if you are going to flash ANY ROMs you follow the instructions the developer suggests - many suggest specific recoveries be used

As long as your on some kind of TW/Stock based ROM you should be Okay.
However if you want to go back to straight (AND ROOTED) stock you can use one of rwhilco12's 'one-click' restores.
The one click downloads as a zip. decompress and then run the one -click. If you've never run a oneclick read here
It will give you a stock ROM, rooted, MF9 Modem, Stock recovedry, and Stock kernel. You'll then have to use GooManger method to get custom recovery.

actually i googled and it seems that goo manager will seamlessly overwrite cwm. sorry for the questions before searching. appreciate the help. i almost didn't come on here, which would of lead me to reverting to stock, doing cwm again, then being upset that i needed twrm for most roms lmao. I owe u one. If u ever need to learn how to make bad decisions, just shoot me a pm. I got u covered.
No it will just replace it.
I actually (and many around here too) prefer TWRP 2.5.0.2.
You can download the zip for that here, boot to recovery you have now (CWM) and then install that. Or use Goo to install lates TWRP and boot to recovery and then install zip and choose the 2.5.02 you downloaded and then save to your sd card
scratch what i posted here. I ended up having to download ROMmanager and update CWM, then used CWM to install the zip you provided me. thanks so much man. Do you have a favorite stable ROM you recommend using TWRP. I value your advice

Glad you got it.
As for ROMs you really have to try them out for yourself. There are some really great TW ROMs ; Sacs, negalite, triforce and others. For CM/AOSP there are a whole bunch to choose from. I mess with just about all of them. But my daily driver has to be one hundred percent working and reliable so for that I'm usually on a stock debloated and modified TW ROM. Take some time to read through the OPs of the devs and just as importantly through the follow up posts to see what works what doesn't ahs how to fix or get what you need.
Good luck
