How to get older version of ROM Manager? - Vibrant General

I just formatted my phone back to factory settings. I am in the process of installing all my apps again and just realized I purposely never updated my ROM Manager to the latest version because of the new permission is asks for (the one that lets ROM Manager use your account authentication information). So, is there any way for me to download an older version of ROM Manager?
Thanks!

+1.. then you can install older version if you dont like.. built in on ROM Manager..

Thanks for the suggestions but I have my reasons for having strict access control on my phone.

Is it because you are a Dark Agent?

Yes, you got me.

Is there no way to download older version of apps from Market?

^ why don't you just email koush man? I'm sure he would send you the .apk, and think you are crazy paranoid too.

Good suggestion.

I send him two polite emails about Rom Manager, and he never to the time to answer. A bit sad somewehere.

What do you use ROM manager for? Use the update.zip for root and to install recovery and then use recovery for all of your flashing. I only used ROM manager one time to install recovery

GREAT, I AM ON JFD NOW - HOW DO I ROOT?
You are likely still connected to your PC and booted up to the T-Mobile jingle. Great, drop the notification bar down and mount your phone...
HERE ARE THE STEPS TO FOLLOW....
BUT FIRST... WHAT UPDATE.ZIP FILE DO YOU NEED?
There are two options here. Choose before you start.
A – an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs. There have been issues with CWR not flashing properly recently (June 2011), hence Option B.
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
So, A or B?
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
Also, download the ROM you plan to flash (assuming you are not sticking on JFD – why would you).
LINK TO THE DEV SECTION
2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3. Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4. In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5. It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now... I COVER HOW TO FLASH ROMS LATER – JUST KEEP READIN BELOW
Yeah, it is that easy!!

Give S15724N a thanks. The first update.zip will just root you. The second with boot you into CWR so that you can flash a custom ROM (all of which have root)

Flash custom recovery on an already rooted Aria with clockworks recovery?

is it possible to switch to another custom recovery after I already got clockworks?
I tried unrevoked but its stuck in the reboot (I believe its trying to root my aria again)
not sure what youre trying to do.... i believe Clockwork is the only Recovery for rooted phones. if you want to flash a custom ROM, well that is something else altogether. please be specific as to what you want to flash to the phone. include a link to the flash too
I was trying to flash psfreedom recovery rom from here

I believe the method on that website was for unrooted arias without clockworks

To flash a different custom recovery on your Aria, you need to rename the zip file LIBEIMG.ZIP on the SD card and boot in HBOOT (Power on the phone by holding down VOL DOWN and the Power Button). When it boots to the HBOOT screen you should see text stating that it found LIBEIMG.ZIP and is installing it.
awesome. now before I go ahead, is there any clockworkx recovery image I can revert back to?

I'm curious, what recovery are you talking about?
thanks for including the link. the instructions are clear.... Root IS required, Clockwork recovery is recommended, the Freedom Aria flash appears to be a custom ROM.
once the phone is Rooted, boot into Recovery, make a Nandroid backup, and flash downloaded zip file from SD card.
if you need help Rooting, there is all sorts of good methods available on this site. I use the Unrevoked method myself, but it works best on Linux or Mac OS

hmm I think you are looking at the old method which is a custom rom
The new one is a custom recovery which brings me to the question as I dont think you can flash a custom recovery in the clockwork custom recovery.
its possible im looking at the wrong thing, but far as i can tell it states "Recovery Custom ROM" which is totally different from Custom Recovery ROM
From link posted above:
"Update can be installed in recovery mode in Psfreedom settings menu via Update (local) or Update (net) if you have configured your wifi connection. Put the file on your SDCARD and install it.

I have similar questions. I was trying to update my version of clockwork also using unrevoked again, but couldn't get it to work. I guess my questions are:
1. Is there any benefit in updating to a newer version of clockwork? My current version is 2.0.x.x and I believe the latest one is 2.5.0.4.
2. Will this same method work to do so? Can I rename the latest clockwork .zip file like this and get it updated?
I thought using the flash clockwork option in ROM Manager would do it, but it doesn't. If I reboot from ROM Manager it goes to the newer version, but if I reboot otherwise it goes to my original. The couple times I've used it, there appears to be maybe some different features/options in the newer one and I feel like I might be missing out on something!
What's the difference with this recovery?

These are probably two different things. once you got the recovery rom flashed you can upgrade it in recovery mode (hence its different from original clockwork recovery)
Ok bro, I didn't see much info about it so I'm gonna take your word for it.
@brswattt, far as I can tell this is " basically" used for jailbreaking the ps3.
@armyengineer;
you can use unrEVOked to flash the new recovery. if youre a Windows user, download the unrEVOked tool and run the .exe as Administrator. also make sure there are no conflicting s/w on the PC such as HTC Sync and you have all the drivers installed(HBoot, ADB drivers, etc.)

This still isn't working for me. Everything appears to go well at the start, then I get:
Waiting for root...(safe to restart if this doesn't work)
At which point the only way I can restart is to pull my battery. After doing so, it reboots and I get:
This was a triumph
It is not, however, any such thing. After another minute I get this:
Internal error: couldn't find misc.
So I've still got my original version of clockwork, 2.0.1.3, despite the fact that ROM Manager is telling me I have 2.5.0.1. I'm obviously missing something here.
BTW, if it matters I'm running CM 6.1.0

Although there is a ClockworkMod 2.5.0.4 version, I don't think it is for the Aria. According to ClockworkMod ROM Manager, 2.5.0.1 is the most current one for the Aria so I am believing what ROM Manager is telling me since it is written by the same the vendor.
I have tried CM 6.1.0
original HTC Aria 2.1 International Rom
and FR001 RC1
all no go. I think it has something to do with the phone already been rooted and has clockworks installed which makes unrevoked unhappy

OK, let's start from the beginning. You asked about installing an alternate recovery (PSFreedom recovery), but apparently it has its own installation procedure that needs to be run on an unrooted Aria.
What you need is to find just the PSFreedom recovery and copy it to your SD called in a file called LIBEIMG.ZIP and that is how you need to install it on a root phone that has ClockworkMod. Perhaps you need to go back to the PSFreedom thread and ask if a LIBEIMG.ZIP can be produced that can be flashed from HBOOT to replace ClockworkMod.
Looks like everything you need is located in the PSFreedom wiki:
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I got a recovery.bin which is suppose to be used with unrevoked.
are you talking about the same one if I just compress it into a zip file?

Kaos Fryo leak help

First off let me just say I wanted to post this in the thread but it said I haven't met some kind of requirement to post yet.
My question is I have read about rooting etc etc but being that this is my first time I didnt want to screw up so because Kaos's leak is pre rooted do I need to still root my phone or will this do it for me?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
No, the ROM is pre-rooted already so you don't need to root once installed.
However, the ROM is installed through Clockwork Recovery, so that means that you need to have ROM Manager and Clockwork Recover Mod installed, which, will require that your phone is rooted..
You can find the threads in this forum that show you how to install all that..
When using ODIN, be sure to use "PDA" and not "Phone".. if you use Phone, you will end up with a paper weight...
Good luck!
You need to root your phone first
will not be able to install
Thanks!!!

How do I root a fascinate when it's on 2.1 update 1?
I believe you can flash CWM via download mode w/ Odin, and then flash the 2.2 leak+kernel with that, so technically you don't need to be rooted to install this, provided you have access to the proper equipment.
SOrry this is a duplication. I asked in another thread but was stepped on by VooDoos and such.
I have a stock rom. It USED to show as DI01. I did figure out how to root it, and just now noticed that it is showing as DH12 (baseband version AND build number), no longer DI01.
So, I need to update it first, before I can install DL30, correct?
I have a DL09.tar.tar file.
I have ODIN3.exe.
I have the DL30-leak.zip.
I have no clue what a CWM is or how to use/install it.
Where can I find the steps to get me to DL30?
Thanks.

Waw. OK. If you are on a plain DH12 with no Clockwork Mod Recovery installed, then you need to do a lot of steps. I'm just going to give you a high level overview and not going into details. You find the details and make sure you understand.
1. Make sure you install USB drivers and that your computer can see your phone when plugged in.
2. Install ODIN in your computer
3. Use ODIN to flash the DL09.tar via PDA! (Very important!)
4. Once you are on DL09. Get the CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 and flash with ODIN via PDA. (never on Phone)
5. Get also the update.zip from that thread and put it in the root of your SD card.
6. Then go to Market and get ROM Manager, then install Clockwork Recovery through ROM Manager.
7. Now to install DL30: (look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937499)
a. Get the "New" CWM .zip file and put it in your SD card.
b. Put the DL30.zip in your SDCard.
c. Boot into CW Recovery mode from ROM Manager, you should see the Green Clockwork Recovery mode.
d. Apply the new CWM .zip via "choose .zip from SD card"
e. Apply the DL30.zip same way.
f. Wipe data, cache and Devilk cache (in the Advanced menu).
g. Reboot.. and voila !
Lean how to use CWM first (how to navigate, etc).. Good luck!

IT IS possible to flash a recovery image without a pc...look inside

Well is it? Been looking around at a few Rom managers and is seem that "Rom Manager" allows is somehow but it will not work, I dont know where to drop the recovery image.
The reason I am asking this is because I am at work today with no cable and "NEED" (lol) to flash the 1.7 rom that just came out.
Thanks in advance
ANSWER:
Ok so this is how I was able to flash my recovery image without a computer:
Step 1: Download the .img file you want to flash
Step 2: Download Rom Manager (Clockworkmod) from the app market
Step 3: Copy your .img file to sdcard/clockworkmod/download/mirror1.kanged.net/recoveries
(atleast this is where my recovery-cockwork-2.5.0.7-streak.img was being saved to)
Step 4: Rename the most recent .img file to something close just to keep as a backup (ex. recovery-cockwork-2.5.0.7-streak.img to recovery-cockwork-2.5.0.7-streak2.img
Step 5: Rename the downloaded .img file to what the original was (right now it would be recovery-cockwork-2.5.0.7-streak.img)
Step 6: Go into Rom Manager and press Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. it will now flash with it thinks is the latest, the one you just renamed.
Step 7: You are done, reboot and you should have the recovery.img you needed.
I needed to do this because for some reason after flashing to 1.6.1 my recovery no longer allowed me to flash from my SD.. I was away from my computer so I needed to find a way to flash remotely.
ENJOY

Isn't that what ClockworkMod does?
I don't see why you couldn't download the ROM onto the SD card via the Streak (or another phone).
Of course, it needs to be in the correct format to be flashed this way.
This is how I usually apply StreakDroid.
Of course, you need to have ClockworkMod already installed to do this.
answered in post one....enjoy
This should be made into a sticky.

Well I tried this by installing the latest ROM manager (v3.0.7) then I copied and renamed the streakdroid as instructed.
However, if I run ROM manager on the streak and select Reboot into Recovery, the streak just re-boots back into Android (DJ Steve 1.7)
Did I do something wrong?
Cheers

You still need to hold the volume up n down buttons when the device restarts. This just allows you to get the correct recovery.img file on the phone. I dont think there is a manager that actually reboots in recovery mode yet for the streak

[Q] I have a dilemma:

I'm trying to root my Continuum, but I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble.
I'm new to the android scene, and this is my first smartphone.
I was researching how to root it, and I decided I want to flash CMW on it.
I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072 for help, as well as http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-continuum/
I downloaded Odin, PDA'd the tar.md5 recovery, flashed it, and then put the update-i400.zip on my sdcard. I restarted my phone in recovery mode, and I was trying to install the update-i400.zip, and it won't let me. I've done both the tar.md5 and adryn's test4.tar, as well as renaming the .zip just 'update'
I'm lost, and need some help, please. I would've posted this in the development section, but being a noob, it won't let me. If anyone can help, that'd just be great.

good luck
bye the way you can check if you are rooted using terminal emulator from the android market
yes super one click worked for me select universal mode then rage against the cage and then hit root it might hang for a minute but it should reboot then check to see if theres an app called super user. once you see that your rooted.

Also for CwM Ive had best luck using odin3 1.3, adryns test4 tar, cwm 2.5 update zip, but I still had to use menu softkey to apply zip. Right now I can use rom manager app to boot into cwm, it says 2.5.1 but it has red text?
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
You can flash the Odin ROM without root. That will root and install the proper kernel for you... then use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want to use.
Or you can flash the complete odin package for 2.2 thats on the Continuum Development section.
Which will also make your device rooted

You don't want to rename the rom zip. You have to use the Cyan CWM update.zip, which is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/cLdwKNsU/update.html
I don't know if the other links posted are for the same file, but that's the one that works with Froyo.
You must have the cwm update.zip on your flash card. When you start up in recovery, you'll need to select apply update.zip. Use the volume rocker to highlight update.zip, and tap the menu soft-key to select. Once in CWM, the power button is select, and the back soft-key is back. You'll want to select the menu option to install zip from sd card, select zip to install, and browse to where you saved the rom file.
If all else fails, I'll be uploading a super-clean debinged ROM in the next few days. Once it's up, just flash via Odin as you did with adrynalyn's cwm recovery image.

lol. Heres a basic guide.
Do you have a recovery installed? If not download the apk form 4ext.net and install then open. Then install the recovery. Then go to bootloader and pick recovery.
Download the rom, copy it to your sd card (pick usb mount in 4ext and plug in your phone to the computer)
Wipe ALL your data from recovery
Pick install --> install from sdcard --> find the rom and press ok.
Have fun.
