Hello everyone!
I'm new on this forum and I've only read TONS of useful information till now...Few days ago I bought an HTC Touch device and immediately I flashed its ROM with a new one found in this *** WONDERFUL *** site
Well, in the past I developed some (stupid) applications for Windows in several languages; then I discover the "pocket-pc" world and began to have to do with it! One night I was reading about a feature of a developement-version of a well known browser and WOOOOOOOW!!!! "You can perform several actions, like scrolling, panning, zooming...only by moving your phone!" The software use image-processing algorithms to recognize your gestures ...only using the built-in camera!!!! No accelometers needed...
Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pVaEVHpvI
Now, image-processing algorithms are not too difficult to implement...but how can I get access to the built-in camera on my Htc ?!? I tried to search all over the internet, and in this forum too...but I found only few things about HTCCameraAPI and many other programs and their dlls. I cannot believe there's no way to have access to the camera!!!
HELP please!!! this "project" could be very interesting!
One thing is sure - it _can_ be done, and it can work really good, even on weak hardware - look at this:
http://rivia.net/Fishopolis.aspx
I just tried the demo and i was amazed how well it worked on my wizard (especially considering its crappy camera), even in less than perfect lighting conditions (incadescent light). No overclocking required.
Also, from what i've seen WM7 is going to use the camera-based gestures too. So, anyone willing to beat M$ to it and develop a camera-based ftouchflo-like app?
I've looked at the libs, and I've even dabbled in the source, and this is my next project. Like I said, we know it can be done, it's just a matter of doing it. Obviously though, I've got to finish off PocketMelody etc. But it's my next move, once no one beats me to it . And personally, I hope someone does! It's not THAT hard.
Welcome to the forums gregnapola!
This website hepled me choose my very first PPC Phone 18 months ago and helped it become the best little device I own. It just keeps getting better and better with tools such as FTouchFlo, PocketMelody and Picture Flow, and I look forward to this feature onMY HTC Hermes!
Shows how much really can be done with this WM platform, all you need is developers with imagination and talent (and all the other things that go along with it like coffe and donations and and respect on the forums ).
Thanks guys.
maybe we would have some1 develop a program that automatically changes portrait mode into landscape by jus rotating the camera..hey u never kno..this is XDA-DEVELOPERS..
Sounds awesome and would definitly love to see this done. Just a quick question about it. Would it be a big battery drain to have this running all the time?

Considering that you're not rendering anything to the screen, it's at least safe to assume you'll be using A LOT less power than if you were walking around with your camera application on all day .
Thank you for your replies...
I've just installed the demo version of "Rivia Fishopolis" to see how well can it work but it doesn't run it because of an unknow security-error
Now, I found a lot of useful camera-based applications, but they'll come in the future - I'm talking about WM7 gesture-based control, NetFront 3.5 or EyeMobile Games by GestureTek...but all I really need is the way to capture frames by my Elf camera; code samples in any Visual Studio language with HTCCameraAPI, or any other lib...
any update?
I'd also love to substitute my D-Pad for a Camera-based Motion Tracking system
No Dev takes this challenge?

I resolved your error assigning owner information (all). But camera feature seems to not work on my trinity...also the d-pad can't move the cursor...is there anyone with same problem?
thanks
Would it be possible to have it access the front camera too and switch of the LCD when you're talking on the phone? Something like what the iPhone does to save battery.

That's really stinks!! I hope you can get another one. Sorry to hear the news.
Chris
Im trying to use Fishopolis on my phone ( an HTC Wizard) but i keep on getting some kind of weird security error.
Any ideas why im getting that error and how to fix it?
doesn't seem to work with the camera on the Hermes...hmmm
Looks like we will have to wait until 2009 for WM7.
wouldn't it consume a lot more battery if camera is always on.
just my thought
I think this is a cool idea and I think I mentioned this somewhere else in this forum, but if this could be done, it would be cool if one could use the camera of there phone, link it via bluetooth and use it as a mouse for a laptop.
Just thinking outloud.
lol, some interesting ideas.

Hi guys i know that iphone has a application on their phone called Audio recognition.
The way this works is that if you hear a song you like, you select a particular software in the iphone and what it does is that it records the first 5 seconds of the song and it sends that sample to some database and then reports back to you with the name of the song and who sings it, now i know i have been in a situation where i have heard a song and liked it but cant remember or know the name of it.
Is their away to implement this into a HTC diamond, like has someone tried making this happen?
Paul
SEE POST 8 FOR NEW VERSION OF MUSIC ID
hahaha, funny I just came across that when my friend was demonstrating his iPhone... would love to know if there's a similar WM app...
i have installed what u mentioned and it worked thanks mate.
Hopefully someone will make one to work properly on the windows mobile operating system, anyone know where i can get this from as the one mentioned above works but isnt 100% visible on the screen
Also using MusicID, and when I demoed it a year ago to my friends they were astonished. I also find it better than iPhone app. MusicID needs VGA support, which it lacks as of now, so it fits better our Diamond phones.
surely it cant be that hard to create, like if people on here can create custom ROM's then surely someone can have a crack at this? we got any takers?
come on guys, their has to be someone out there that can do this, can anyone help plleeeeeaaase
Finaly i got it!! Fully working on the Diamond!
thank you so so much, i have been waitin for this for so long now. just tested it and works great, u see all the buttons and it is touch screen enabled too
work fine thanks man
but it's a trial version????
sorry but who makes this software? do they have a web site?
is this "fixed" version something hacked to work by you or the company released a new version?
sorry I am confused

You won't be seeing it in the program list. You have to start it using Explorer.
Wow!! This app works great!!
thank you so much.
this is awsome, works like a charm, thanks for that, but i have another idea if anyone can make it possible i would like to have another feature in this application. it would be great if the app can make a tag from the radio and record a sample without checking the ID, later time you can check ID when you are conected to wifi or activesync, this could save some money on data connection. but it is only my sugestion, thanks anyway.

I've got an icon right at the top of my list. It installed and placed it in the usual Programs menu and TF. Shouldn't be any need to make a shortcut?
so WHO makes this program?
is there a site?
just perfect!
I *love* it.. don't get me wrong.. but these are my gripes after one day, and I can't find any clear answers searching the forums.
the flipping clock.. literally.. it is annoying. how do you disable the clock animation? (I found a thread for this with a .cab file, but it wasn't proven to work on the Tmo USA version)
Opera will not let me click on links. this sucks all the way around- I can't go anywhere online on this huge beautiful screen. I refuse to use IE cuz.. well, it sucks on any platform.
the facebook app blows. (the only thing I miss about my iphone- so far) and I don't care for the touch.facebook.com or m.facebook.com cuz I can't click on links in Opera.
my earthlink and gmail emails were up and running in no time. but I had one hell of a time setting up my work email. we have our own domain- I had to set up the email through my t-mobile.com and then set it up on the device. as far as I know, it's all working fine now.
I have a mac. I used syncmate- I don't use activesync, but can't figure out a way to disable it- always running in the background. I do run XP through Parallels- but I don't use Outlook, so activesync is of no use to me.
why can't All Messages be the default screen for sms/mms tab? same for email- inbox list please?
typing- I don't like xt9 cuz I don't want word suggestions, but I do want spell check. I enabled the spell check with abc, but it doesn't do it.
I un-checked the box for "notify of open wifi networks" but it still tells me all about them.
whenever I restart, I have a voicemail and txt notification- but no voicemail, and some random txt message, and it takes the led notification a few minutes to clear out.
after coming out of a locked screen, apps are open and active that were not when I locked it.
anyone know of updates or easy fixes? I don't have the opportunity to start messing around with different ROMs for a few weeks...
I find the phone to be a buggy mess, wait for an update from HTC/Tmo hopefully or flash it.

You'll be waiting a loooong time. The best option (for the adventurous) is to simply flash one of the TMOUS compatible ROMs found here.
the clock flip cab will work.the only thing that will work on all other hd2s but not on yours is the ..51.. radios. in all other respects the phones are identical.
I know what you mean man. Previously to this phone, I had a iPhone 3GS 32gb which I traded for this phone. I had a lot of the same gripes as you have now. 95% of them probably can be fixed by HSPL'ing your phone and then flashing a different ROM on it. I am on the ATT network and so a lot of the apps that were on the phone I didn't need or use as they were meant for TMO users. So I flashed my HD2 with Kumar's lite rom. Not only did it stop a lot of the bugginess (stalling, freezing, random closing of apps, etc) but it made it a lot quicker. Might want to try that and see if it helps. The clock flipping was annoying as all hell so I just installed the cab to disable it.
I tell my friends who know me pretty well as being an iPhone addict that if the iPhone and HD2 were weapons, the iPhone would be a surgical knife. From the sleek look of the case to the smooth transitioning of the OS makes using it so easy. It doesn't have a lot of speed but with the thousands of apps and fluid movement within the phone, it feels great.
Now the HD2 on the other hand is like a broadsword. You have to put a lot of effort into getting it to do what you want it to do. With the 1ghz processor and 576mb of ram, it can do maul down anything you need it to. The HD2 you can't just pick it up and expect to use it to its fullest potential. It takes a lot of patience to learn your way around the phone. With the iPhone, you jailbreak it and modify it to be more aesthetically pleasing to your eyes and to your fingers. If you have ever just cruised cydia, you will notice not much is there in the way of performance modifications. Mainly just apps and packages that let you change how the phone moves and works for you. The roms, cabs, and registry tweaks you perform on the HD2 are more performance based I have noticed. Yes there are some cabs to help you disable or enable things but right off the bat it seems like you have to modify it. I attribute this to Microsoft's laziness in creating an OS that can perform as well as not crash at the same time.
But while you are waiting for that "oh so needed" port of Android, try kumar's rom. It might just be what you need.
I knew what I was getting into as far as WinMo is concerned... I've been reading the forums on many different sites getting ready for this.
the one thing I am not finding: absolute n00b, specific, clear, step by step instructions on how to do the hspl. I've jailbroken and rooted before- I was as nervous then and just don't wanna mess up. (I have to run anything like that with XP through Parallels on my mac, and I don't do it enough to know wtf I'm doing)

As I recall, you cannot flash via Parallels. You can with Bootcamp. I do it all the time on my MacBook Pro via XP sp3.
As a Mac user, I find that Missing Sync is great, but the iTunes integration is not the best. To transfer music, I use doubleTwist. I disabled the music sync plugins in Missing Sync, as I found that they did not do as good a job as doubleTwist. The two together has been fantastic.
I had the same opera problem here is how I fixed it
Download this on your windows computer
http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/
Do this
HKLM/controlpanel/pen and change the value of 'Hide' from 1 to 0.
Soft reset, then go settings tab - menu - all settings - system and you should see screen settings icon.
Then go to screen settings and enable "clear type"
that makes the fonts look better
now do this
Enable Clickable Links in Zoomed Out Opera
This reg edit allows you to tap on a link without the need for zooming in first.
HKLM/Software/Opera/Info/az_overview_threshold
Change value from 64 to 32
thats why you can't click the links, it wants you to be zoomed all the way in, the above fix, fixes that problem easily
Also search for the cab, duttys task manager, its excellent
Where is the clear type setting, is that in Opera... just for 9.7? I'm running 10 anything comparable there?

Use Opera 10. Its a lot faster and easier to use overall (click links included). If you can live without pinch to zoom, it blows the iPhone browser out of the water.

Use the facebook full site. Its very much useable on the HD2 thanks to its screen size and processor speed. Plus if you use Skyfire with it, you have full flash support and will be able to use all of the facebook fullsites functions! (can't do that on the iPhone)

The XT9 keyboard sucks hard. It doesn't auto correct nearly as well as the iPhone. I turn it off. Fortunately for me, 3 years on an iPhone has made me proficient enough at typing on a touchscreen, and I hardly make mistakes on it anymore. There are alternative keyboards out there that people are using, but I haven't tried them yet. Swype apparently works really well, but again, I'm accustomed to typing on a touchscreen.

I haven't had any of these problems. Most of the problems you're having are attributable to the stock ROM. Once I flashed the rom, things started running perfectly. Its a pretty easy process...just as easy as updating the firmware on the iPhone, and it only takes about 10 minutes. Its A LOT easier than jailbreaking an iPhone.
Other than that, most of the problems I've encountered were fixed with cabs (even prior to flashing the ROM). Hopefully people will chime in on other fixes, but if not, search is your friend.

An analogy that I used in another topic is that if the iPhone and HD2 were cars, the iPhone would be the automatic, the HD2 would be a stick-shift.
The 'automatic-iPhone' appeals to a wide variety of people because its a simple, intuitive device. Most people can pick it up, and figure it out right away. If people find something is lacking on the iPhone, they can easily access the App store and hopefully find what they need. Having gone from a windows mobile phone to the iphone and back to a windows mobile phone, I realized eventually that a lot of the Apps on the iPhone are adding functions that are innate in windows mobile...and while the iPhone Apps are prettier, they usually don't have as much function/utility as they would on WM.
The 'manual-transmission HD2' appeals to power-users who want to get a lot of use from there phone, are somewhat technical, and those who realize that by tinkering a little bit, they can customize the experience completely to suit their needs. Windows Mobile is more cumbersome to use initially, and isn't as intuitive, but once you get the hang of it and learn how to manage your resources, you can capitalize on how much more quickly you can jump between tasks, and flat out how much you can do on this device. Sense does a great job of streamlining your core functions (phone, text, email, twitter etc) and I really like how you can check these things very quickly. Its also nice to know that if I ever need to 'pop the hood' and tweak some things underneath it, I can.
The point is, it may not work perfectly for you initially, but you can tweak it to work perfectly. With the iPhone, a lot of functions are kinda half-assed, and I missed the 'mobile PC' functionality of the HD2....my main gripe with the old Wm phones is that the hardware couldn't keep up with the software...not an issue with the HD2.
if this were a BlackBerry, I wouldn't have started this thread... but it's a WM device, I've only had a Treo before, and didn't really get into changing anything about it, and then gave it up for BlackBerry, which I did tweak, and the MT3G, which I did root and tweak and ROMs and everything.. I never did anything but jailbreak and unlock the iphone so I could use it on TMobile
I don't know how to do the hspl or change registries... install a .cab? no problem.. but I can't find clear instructions on how to do the hspl and the install a new ROM.
and- I'm on a mac... running XP through Parallels for all purposes.
if someone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

You won't be able to safely/effectively flash ROMs via Parallels. I would not do it, because there are reports of bricked HD2s via VM flashes. It's safer to use Bootcamp. That's what I do. I have an XPsp3 partition with all my phone stuff there (Radios, ROMs, MTTY, HSPL, etc.) and it works like a charm.
so I found a thread with noob instructions.. looks like I'm gonna have to fire up the old HP in the corner.

Hey guys, this post is just my way in saying thanks for all the help all of you guys have given me and for making it possible to have android on my HD2
Basically I have been doing some testing and have come up with a combination of things you can do to give yourself a fully working android build Ofcorse some of the information I had to test with was provided by other members but this combination I think is flawless, well at least it is for me ^^.
To begin you’re going to want to get the right WM rom for your android, and after testing I found the best one to be
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734238
I have not had any problems with it. Just flash it to your device and let’s go from there.
Next your going to want to do something allot of members do not think of doing, and that is formatting the SD card PROPERLY, as this eliminates allot of problems for various reasons. The correct way to do this is, boot yourself into Linux, Ubuntu is the easiest in my eyes, and you can get it on a live CD or USB so it’s easy to get into, just boot into Ubuntu plug in your SDcard and its better if you can insert it via an SDcard slot in an adapter. Then format it as FAT not FAT32, I wont explain why this is better, but it will. Check this out if you really want to know why you need to do it ^^ but you don’t really need to know
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750780
Next thing is your android build. Now there are ALOT of builds that work well but there is only one that I believe can give you a real working android experience, and the next part of this guide is based on this build so I suggest you use it .
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740963
Ok, so you have got your build on your card you have booted into it and it’s ready to go, right? Not yet. One of the most annoying things that occur in android under the HD2 is the random freezing and this is how I removed this pesky little annoyance.
1. Unlock your screen and hit the settings key (windows key)
2. Hit settings
3. Hit Cyanogenmod Settings
4. Hit User Interface
5. Scroll down to Accelerometer rotation
6. Make sure ONLY 90 degrees is ticked!
7. Done
Now that setting is how I have managed to eliminate the problem, but don’t worry if you still have this issue, just go back into the Cyanogenmod settings and turn off 90 degrees and then under display turn off Auto-rotate screen, this should eliminate the problems but then your screen wont rotate automatically so its swings and roundabouts really ^^
Top Tips!
DONT use live wallpapers, they WILL kill your battery and drastically decrease the performance of your HD2!
Turn off the GPS as it is on by Default, it drains battery ALOT and isn't necessary most of the time ^^
Get the XDA app because its mega? And you suck if you don’t!
Calibrate the Gsensor, it will reduce the screen freezes (that’s if you even have them, witch you shouldn’t after this guide: P)
Finally, always remember that you should turn off your phone to charge it OR have it booted into WinMo, allot of reasons why you should do this but again just do it
Hope this helped someone somewhere Its my first real post that gave something back to the community and I AM a noob hehe, so any addition to this guide is welcome ^^ Again thanks allot all you guys at XDA that made this possible and I will keep this updated as necessary
Thanks allot. Dane.

Well if your looking at this guide, you probably already have HardSPL :l and even if you didn't when you take a look at the ROM pages it explains it there, so I don't think its very productive or helpful to post random crap like that :l And as for the radio, i tested several radios and it didn't make any difference TO ME but if you really want to know the radio i am running its, 2.12.50. Happy now ?

I think it's incredibly important to post that here.
Imagine someone sees an HD2 with android or hears about it from a friend, does a quick google search and finds this thread.
They come in here looking for a quick fix for android....
They could end up bricking their device or something....

/sigh, what are you trying to do here ? cause problems.if you had never even heard about android on HD2 you take one look at the writing in this post and think WHAT, it says things like Flash it to your device and lets go. you wouldnt know how to flash or even what it meant, so you couldn't even brick your device as you would not know how :l Please stop filling up this thread that i made to HELP people not argue with some guy who keeps coming up with random crap that is not going to happen, and i am not being unreasonable by saying that and i am sure many other members will agree im not in the wrong.

Unfortunately still having the screen freezes, even after toying with CyanogenMod settings.
Back to the waiting game then.

Did you turn off all the screen rotation under cm settings and normal settings and did you calibrate the Gsensor these things can also resolve the problem, you can also disable the Gsensor in WinMO and this will cure your problem but thats not reccomended ^^ Give those suggestions a try, again hope it works for you.

Are we allowed to start a poll asking people which mainstream rom they're using just so we know what is the most common and popular rom is,? Or is it a taboo?

I turned all the screen rotation off. Since I'm using ChuckyDroidROM, the gsensor calibration is removed.
In android, it worked for a while but tilting it continually in Gallery3D caused a freeze.
I wish I could disable the theming on shubCRAFT, it's the only thing that puts me off using it.
I think that if you look at this thread you will see

Next your going to want to do something allot of members do not think of doing, and that is formatting the SD card PROPERLY, as this eliminates allot of problems for various reasons. The correct way to do this is, boot yourself into Linux, Ubuntu is the easiest in my eyes, and you can get it on a live CD or USB so it’s easy to get into, just boot into Ubuntu plug in your SDcard and its better if you can insert it via an SDcard slot in an adapter. Then format it as FAT not FAT32, I wont explain why this is better, but it will. Check this out if you really want to know why you need to do it ^^ but you don’t really need to know

that this method is a lot of trouble for no additional benefit over a simple format using WinMo in the phone. If you would "explain why" it would be interesting because no one else can. A full WinMo format, not quick, overwrites the complete data space on an SD card with new redundant data. It also only reserves and writes one FAT where Windows on the PC reserves and writes two. You can't get something from nothing and WinMo non-quick format leaves nothing in the data space. (And yes I do understand full mil spec data destruction and redundent and random erase so everything is destroyed.)

Well i may be wrong but as far as i was aware, when you put a linux android build on your SDcard it creates a partition or something like that on the card, (i will look it up and get back to you) and windows cannot see it, wheras linux can see it and therefore it can wipe it, and these left over bits that windows cant see dont always get on when you get a new build Thanks for pointing it out though, just wanna help as many as possible ^^
Thanks

To be honest i think that if you got yourself a Shubcraft build and then followed the guide then you would end up with a pretty stable build, with no freezing, but if you dont like the theme, then i guess that there is nothing i can do, but hope that a sense version of it is relesed so that you can get yourself a nice stable build ;D
Thanks again.

@friedsushi definitely agree with you it isn't clarified correctly about different radios affecting the android or that hspl is necessary for it to work. I am constantly getting people pming me to ask for a walkthrough, which on most occasions I have been able to get this working even though my wordage is more simplified in layman's terms-his looks like its been copy/pasted from all over these pages which in effect isn't a bad thing but to call it a guide and not including vital information is a bit haphazard IMO.
& to the op I am not flaming you but there are already guides out there & don't particularly need another unfinished version to add to the numerous threads which have only just been cleaned up by the mods, plus with only 11 posts 8 of which are on here I honestly don't see much experience to be able to give people guides

I dont get it ? not one word of this was copied and pasted from someone else, and this is just the process i went through to get it to work perfectly, i didnt include the parts about the HardSPL and the radio because, i tryed a few different radios and it made no difference to me AND you wouldn't be able to flash or follow these instructions if you didnt know what hard SPL was. Again i am not flaming but i was just providing a set of instructions that i did, to get it working. So its not a unfinished guide, just because it didnt include some realy basic information. Sorry if i did not make this 100% noob friendly, was just trying to get a few more phones running stable ^^
Dane.
No one discussed any where about the below scenarios.
If booting to android, Phone reboots.
If already in booted and trying to make a call or check email again booted.Always getting booten in android randomly after trying various builds.
Anyone has answer for thatt?
Thanks
Well I am trying to figure out how I can get the BT module from a 2.2 rom to a 2.1 rom. This cuss I want to get the media keys from a BT device working. Now they just don't do anything on 2.1 VE6.2...
Well that is my main goal to get those working
Any idea's and tips are welcome
Already checked if the event is logged when I press the button on the radio and the logcat doesnt show a press recieved thingy. so that is a no.
I'd recommend posting this on the cdma forum as well, and maybe in some non-device-specific android dev forum too since it may be a simple answer like "android 2.1 doesn't contain the code necessary to work with 2.2 bt button control libraries" or something like that.
I have a feeling that what you're trying to do is impossible - I mean, android 2.1 never claimed to have bt button support, and it's highly likely that android 2.2 bt libs will simply never work with android 2.1 in that way.
BUT I REALLY HOPE YOU CAN MAKE THIS WORK!
:-D
cdma forum is more dev-aware than gsm forum I think. good place to start.

cool, forgot that part. HTCish seems likely. they change so much that android 2.1 isn't really 2.1 any more.
I hope you can pull it off. I'm NOT saying that I know it is impossible. I don't really know. but it seems likely that aosp will have a different set of conditions from sense roms and working in one may not mean it's possible in the other.
Ok I need to get AVRCP implented into the ROM. Then it will work. VE does not have it.

I figured bt remote control profile wasn't in it. the question is - can you find a clever way to push it in and ahve it work.
After some surfing I found something that might be of help. "Headset Button Fix" app: https://market.android.com/details?id=at.zweng.HeadsetButtonFix&hl=en
(I found reference to it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6125629&postcount=14 The entire thread is a good read)

I am gonna try it. And I wonder if it works. if that is the case. I love to know what the app does behind the screens. And well ill try tomorow.
Ok the app does not work. To bad. But well after I read what it does. kinda logical. Like I said. something HTCish makes it work on the sense roms. Well I just need to get that darn profile to work and then it may work.... But guess not
