[Q] Which screen protector for MS2? - Milestone 2 General

Hey all,
Just curious as to what people use or consider the best screen protector for their Milestone 2?
I should have sorted this out before I got the phone (today!), but alas, I didn't
Let me know your recommendations, and if possible, where you bought it.

I would not buy one. I had Milestone 1 for a year with no scratches on the Gorilla lass.

I thought I'll buy one, but the glass itself seems to be very durable ....

This would be the first phone I have convinced myself to use without a protector.. It was a difficult decision and the stupid protector with all the markings stayed on the phone for nearly a week
Like the others said, the screen is reasonably scratch resistant... and its not like the old resistive touch screens where you would be using a stylus (My old Sony P900 had a couple of tiny sratches that would interfere with writing on the screen)

I have this:
http://shop.brando.com/bw-cellphone-screen-protector-motorola-milestone-2-_p5236c19d8.html
is Anti-Glare, the best screen protector.

I have to agree - Brando and Martin Fields make the best protectors in my opinion.
Whilst I understand people saying that you shouldn't be able to scratch the "Gorilla" glass of the Milestone 2 - for the sake of the few pounds/bucks/etc it costs for a good protector, I think it's still worth the investment.
Cheers,
Steve.

I'll trust on Gorilla Glass.

You can see in the video here that it's very scratch resistant, but you can also see by Corning's own admission it is possible to abrade it.
http://vimeo.com/8602963
I just don't understand why anybody would take the risk not having a protector. That way you have the strength of Gorilla glass, and a near as dammit guaranteed scratch-proof screen.
Cheers,
Steve.

SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal.
It's almost invisible, very thin, doesn't interfere with the screen sensitivity and the main reason I bought it: it's almost fingerprint-proof, unlike the gorilla glass screen by itself.

Thought I'd update this thread with my experience thus far;
Bought a Martin Fields Milestone 2 screen protector (had it one the phone for about 2 weeks)...
I would not recommend this...
It gives the screen a blueish metal tinge (especially on an angle) and is no where near as clear as the screen was before I put the protector on it, especially in the sun it is quite horrible (I did clean the screen and all that; I'm very meticulous) .
My old iPhone's protector is heaps better than this, which is a shame as this Martin Fields cost ~$20 vs. ~$4 for the iPhone one (Belkin I think it was).
I'll be on the look out for something else now :-(

I'm amazed - I've had Martin Fields protectors on a number of devices for years, and have always thought they were great.
Never noticed them on the screen, let alone with a blueish tinge.
Cheers,
Steve.

I'm going to contradict myself here - I've just fitted a new Martin Fields to my wife's iPhone. I noticed the packaging was different to previous protectors I'd had, and now it's fitted, I see what you mean about the blue tinge. Fingerprints seem to leave that "oil on water" rainbow effect too - I'm not very impressed. They must have changed their manufacturing process or materials.
I've got a Brando protector on at the moment, but a new-style martin fields on standby, but I'm wondering if I should even bother with it.
Cheers,
Steve.

As the Defy here, the Milestone 2 has a Gorilla Glass screen. I would not put a screen protector since it looses a bit of touch sensitivity. That is what I think right now...

I havent put any protector on M1 and after one year I dont have single scratch. Gorilla glass is really great. I also dont use any protector on current M2.

As the posts just above this one point out, people have had success without any protector and no issues...but I'm not used to this so I'd worry way too much without a protector...but maybe I'll give it a go...hmmmmm

A good protector makes no difference to the sensitivity of the screen, and I'm not sure I can see any benefit in takin the risk of not having one.
Cheers,
Steve.

U really dont need a screen protector on this phone. The gorilla glass on it is virtually scratch resistant. Besides many screen protectors out there reduce the sensitivity of the touch screen

Again, I'll repeat my point - a good screen protector does not have any effect on the sensitivity of the screen, and as you say the Gorilla glass is "virtually scratch resistant", which isn't the same as "you can't scratch it". For the sake of a few pounds/dollars, I just don't understand the logic in risking it.
Cheers,
Steve.

Yeah I agree with Steve; even though the Gorilla Glass is supposed to be heaps-good, I don't want the stress/worrying if it'll get scratched...'cause once it's scratched it's scratched.
Also I've never had issues with my old iPhone's screen protector in terms of sensitivity or use etc.
Heavily depends on the actual screen protector...this Martin Fields one is getting worse as the weeks roll on...loosing it's smoothness and it's getting some weird discolourations (looks like oil on water on the road - rainbow hue pattern).

Scratched Screen!

Somehow i have managed to get a scratch of prob 8mm tall x 1mm wide x 1mm
deep. is the front protected by something or is that the screen?
its hasnt gone all the way through what ever it is. but i can tell its scratched due to
the light when moving the phone about.
Anyway to fix this ie a new front?
screen works as normal.
Cheers Rob.
why would you want to fix? it seems like a minuscule scratch.
Its near the middle of the screen. There must have been some grit on it when i put it in the
pouch :?

I doubt it. It's hardened glass. It must have been something heavy or very sharp. The only fix i know of is a new glass cover or may be a very good screen protector
My N1 got a bunch of hairline scratches from my the old ladies earring, I put a name brand name screen protector on it and they're not visible anymore. So that is an option for you if it really bothers you that much, my N1's scratches drove me nuts because they were right at the top.
I have a scratch on my screen too...It was bothering me at first, but quickly forgot about it.
Not even visible.

I agree and would try a screen protector. I found a Fellowes generic protector was best at hiding a big scratch on an old iPAQ I have. The screen on that is quite different but I don't see why it wouldn't work on the HD2.
Cheers people, I think I have a few protectors at work. only cheap ones. Will let you know if this helps.

I, too, have a nice scratch in the screen. Can't remember what happened, or what would have caused it. When I realized it was there I immediately shopped for screen protectors, and used member reccomendations from XDA forums. I purchased a recommended protector based on those recommendations and some further research elsewhere online. My results? DO NOT purchase the HD2 product from Gadget Shieldz dot com. It will somehow magnify the resolution refresh and create a rainbow pattern on the nice, hi-rez screen. Aarrgh! Does someone have a better product suggestion??

I'm pretty keen on Skinomi protectors, they have a Lifetime Warranty.
http://www.skinomi.com/
The only thing is that the HD2 protector doesn't protect the bottom part below the buttons. Wasn't an issue for me but if you want all over protection go with BestSkinsEver.
Thanks for the suggestion, IC. Both products look the same as others, but if the pattern isn't there (and sensitivity isn't compromised) I will be a happy camper. I'll update on this forum with the results!
anyone tried the ZAGG Invisible Shield? It looks nice on the ads but i'd like to listen from a owner...
I have used the Zagg shield for about 3 months then happily removed it from my HD2, After a while the protector started to get an 'orange peel' effect to it and as a whole it was very reflective. I also didnt like the tactile feel to it, it felt quite rubbery and so when draging your finger across the screen sometimes it would feel choppy in a sense.
I am now using the wrapsol HD2 protector (am currently writing a full review for it so check back soon) but just quickly i love it and alreayd am more than happy with it i dont even know it is on the phone it feels like glass to the touch.

Scratches

Ok, we all have a few scratches on our phones display, some worse than others, but wouldn't it be nice to have a display totally resistant to them. A diamond coating or something.
I know there are screen protectors, but who uses them.

They are luxury phones costing more than 1.5K USD... they make them in precious metals, and some models even come with diamonds. I rather buy new digitizers lol.
Synthetic sapphire would be the best choice, but it's not exactly cheap to manufacture. The iPhone 4 and Dell Streak are probably the closest we have right now to nearly scratch-proof screens.
What's wrong with screen protector?
I use one for my X10.
Cant speak about the iphones screen as I wouldnt touch an Apple product to save my life, but alot of newer phones have Corning's Gorilla Glass. That stuff is pretty bulletproof. Google it to find a list of devices that use it.
I've got two screen protectors on, the one that came with it and stuck on another not realising it already came with one.

It can be removed yes, but I've left both on, and after my brothers GF opened his toolbox the other week and spilling a lid full of screws all over it, I'm glad I did.

Not to flame you or anything, but what is your point of the statement? are you trying to look for help on choosing a screen protector? cuz people do use them
I removed the screen protector that came with the phone and the screen looks freakin' gorgeous without it, but at the same time, very vulnerable. I've bought mirror screen protectors from ebay; they're supersexy but at the same time superglossy and does not help at all when i'm looking at my phone in broad daylight. I've heard about ZAGG's screen protectors and I might try them out once my mirror screen protector wears off but they're quite pricey though Check out endagdet's post on torturing Dell Streak's screen too...it was very painful to watch but the outcome was great: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/29/dell-streaks-gorilla-glass-screen-torture-tested-for-your-amus/
@junkk29: do you know where I can find a screen protector that has a rough feel to it? Made ideal for swyping texts. I think they are called anti-glare but the ones I bought were not anti glare (off of ebay).

To be honest, I have no clue besides the one that came with the X10. I use Swype on my X10 as well and the screen mirror screen protector does not help at all. It's nice but if your finger is moist or wet it can be a little sticky Try searching on the X10 accessories forum, you might find something there. Good luck
i'm kinda regret to take off my original scrn protector, should have just put the second one on top of it!!!

Yes it does and I guarantee you a 100% cuz I pulled it out myself. It's hard to notice it but if you look close enough (maybe with a magnifying glass lol) you'll see it around the corner. I saw pictures of it in this forums but i'm too lazy to look it up again. It's not easy to remove it and literally took me half an hour to get the corners out. Once you get the corners out you can just peel it off, it's quite tough but it doesn't leave any residue. If you're gonna get a screen protector i suggest you remove it too cuz i've heard from the seller that it messes with the touch screen responsiveness.
Picked up some low glare screen protectors on eBay and it's been a month without a single scratch! They are pretty tough, plus they resist fingerprints as well I am not sure I need to buy the 3 pack now... LOL!
I wish I knew who actually made them Cuz they are brilliant!
BTW, the original one is also on. It does not make a difference in responsiveness, in fact due to the surface of these protectors, it's actually even smoother to scroll or swype across the screen.

Are all T-mob Vibrant Screen protectors poor quality?

I just applied an official T-mobile screen protector for vibrant... Applied it well with no air bubbles... but when I turned my display on.. I saw that it makes the screen look really blurry and kind of pixelated because of poor quality plastic texture...
I also noticed that the plastic film that the vibrant came with was better quality because it was completely see through and it never worsened the quality of phone's display.
Does anyone else see this with T-mobile screen protectors???
Any recommendations on which one to buy?
I feel like T-mobile really failed at making a screen protector for such a brilliant display.
I always get screen protectors on Amazon. They are so much cheaper.
I really like the T-mo case for Vibrant though.
Get the realook screen protectors. They cover the whole entire screen and buttons, can't tell there is a screen protector, and feels like there is no screen protector on!
They are $10.99 I believe for 2 of them on eBay and Amazon.
What about not falling for the screen protector scam these company are running, You dont need a screen protector for this phone, and anything you put on this S amoled screen will lower the quality of the screen, Remember you are applying a film of something that will have an impact. How can you say that... There is No mention of Vibrant having a gorilla glass! On Euro Galaxy S model it does say that it has a gorilla glass protecting the screen.
Plus many users on xda said that they got tiny scratches from having the phone in their pocket.. without anything else in it! So there goes to show you still need a screen protector to protect from salt on finger tips and sand in pockets.
I keep my phone in my pocket with keys, coins and any number of other things and I do it naked (but that's besides the point)
I also saw a video on YouTube in Japanese where the guy was trying to scratch it with razor blades, keys, dropping it and various other tortures. I wish I had the link. Anyway, I agree that this phone does not need a screen protector and you will only be degrading the visual impact to some degree. With that said I know that many people just feel better about doing so.

I could bet that these people think they scratched it as I thought mine was scratched SEVERAL times but it was just weird smudges or something that looked like a scratch. After thorough wiping the scratch turned out to be an illusion. My glass is perfectly FLAWLESS with no special treatment whatsoever.
Take it for what it's worth. Maybe I've just been extremely lucky.
Went through 3 different screen protectors and by far Realook is the best. I can't even tell it's even on there.
Realook is amazing, I have had quite a few compliments on it after I tell them there is a screen protector because they don't realize one is there. +1 realook

+1 for Realook ! Like everyone here already mentioned, you can hardly feel its presence after you apply it and you know you are protected.
I've used Tmobile's screen protector. It gives the display a scattered rainbow like look. The only good thing was the matt finish was very less reflective and less prone to finger prints. I replaced it with Realook and I'm loving it.
I also have used screen protectors religiously. This time I had zagg, **** was too sticky feeling so I ripped it off after some friends said they go naked on there evos, n1s and incredible, so, I said hell, I never put it in my pocket with anything anyways.
Well, Its just sooooo much better without one. Ive yet to get a scratch either and even dropped it in between the seats of the car and it hit all the way down. One guy up above mentioned it looking like theres scratches but were wiped away, Ive also had those and thought, "oh crap I got a scratch," but realized it wiped right off and my screen also is flawless still.
Gorilla glass or not this bad boy is tough... Just reserve one pocket for your phone only. My right is only my phone and my left is everything else. Pretty soon it will become second nature and you wont even need to think what pocket to put **** in...
GO naked, screw protectors.
Honestly, if realook wasn't this amazing, then I would have definitely gone naked since all other screen protectors seem to take away from the Super AMOLED screen. But to all honesty, realook is awesome. It seriously doesn't feel like there's anything on the screen once installed.
The vibrant may have gorilla glass, but why not invest $10 bucks to protect a $500 phone anyways?
I don't run a screen protector and haven't had any problems with the vibrant or my old G1. I do keep my vibrant in my old G1 pouch case though when its in my pocket.

Does the stylus scratch the screen?

Does the stylus scratch the screen?
Do you guys think that a screen protector is necessary or advisable?
And if it is advisable, will it affect the stylus and finger performance?
interesting question, as the current word on the street is the Note doesn't have Gorilla Glass...
i doubt it would though- but that's only my assumptions..
as its Anti-scratch resistant screen .i don't think the s-pen will scratch the screen but it more like in long term it possible when you put in your pocket with coins or keys , that would scratch the screen it i think.
my old phone was anti scratch screen too but still got few scratch on it from the house keys and coin in my pocket
ps btw i am using the note without screen protector.
I've always gone naked on my phones; no screen protector and no case. I can't stand the extra bulk/film. Even back in the days of windows mobile 5 and 6 with HTC phones that had PLASTIC screens that actually deformed under the stylus pressure, I didn't have scratching issues. I've always kept my phone in my left pocket (upside down with screen facing leg for quick and easy retrieval in the proper position) with NOTHING else in the pocket.
I've never understood the screen protector thing. For the most part manufacturers make the screens much harder and more abrasion resistant than any plastic film you'll find in a screen protector. I saw a guy yesterday using some Verizon droid with a screen protector that was scratched and foggy, and all I could think is "WTF, he wants to protect his screen so it doesn't get scratched up, decreasing visibility and looking ugly, yet that's exactly the experience he's receiving!" Lame. Sometimes people need to think about the big picture. If you're going to sell your phone in a couple months and are paranoid, that's one thing, but otherwise I think they're a total waste.
I still have the factory protective plastic sheet over my screen and my stylus works fine. I'm waiting for my screen protector to come in the mail before I remove the factory plastic.
I have always used cases and screen protectors on my phones. When it came time to sell my old phones, they are still in immaculate condition, like the first day I bought them. I am always able to get the maximum resale value out of my phones.
I think screen protectors is a good investment if you want to maximize the resale value of your phone
I have a screen protector on my note and it doesn't effect the performance of the stylus. It also doesn't leave any scratches on the screen protector so I am guessing it shouldn't leave any on the screen as well.
Overall performance , it's great and loving every minute of my new toy.

If you put it on right, you can't even tell it's there. You wouldn't be able to tell that I had a screen protector on my captivate unless you looked at the edges, no fog, no bubbles, no dust.
The thing about screen protectors is... if you DO get a big scratch, you are scratching an inexpensive easily replaceable component as opposed to the expensive and very difficult to replace pane of glass fused to the LCD and housing.
Even though Screen Protectors can prevent the screen being scratched, it does also make the screen look less vibrant.
all my previous phones i had screen protector on but i decide that i go without on the note this time ^_^
ps. i just put 32gb card in and loaded ton of movies on it. oop sorry out of topic, lol
I was going to ask whether the seemingly strong screen would hurt the thin plastic S-Pen.
I never used a screen protector on previous phones, but I just ordered one for the Note. After only a couple of days use, I have several noticeable scratches on the screen - I would say that it scratches easily (these scratches are not from the stylus, haven't even used that yet).
I would think that the pen would suffer in sensitivity with a screen protector.

I never used a screen protector on previous phones, but I just ordered one for the Note. After only a couple of days use, I have several noticeable scratches on the screen - I would say that it scratches easily (these scratches are not from the stylus, haven't even used that yet).

I've had scratches on mine too, but I wiped them off with a tissue.

Paper's never a good thing to use for wiping clear stuff (phone screens, glasses, etc.) Wood pulp, which they use to make the paper, contains tiny bits of silica which will scratch those types of items. The scratches may be very small, but will build up over time. Fabric is always a better choice; the inside of my t-shirt is what I use most of the times on my sunglasses and phone screen.

I manufacture cases for phones.
But before then and now I don't use cases, and beat the living daylights out of my phones.
This makes me financially stupid, and you smart (no sarcasm, truly).
However, I'm perhaps living a more chilled life.

Scratches on my screen

Hi,
I put my phone in my gf's purse in a pocket just next to her earings (which I had not seen obviously) so my z2 screen got now a very obvious scratch that I would like to remove.
I can't feel it with my finger but it's still visually very annoying.
I tried the toothpaste but didn't do anything.
Would you have any product to recommend?
Thanks for your help!
Damn, thought the screen would be more resistant than that : ( Guess it's not as solid as Gorilla Glass.
Apply a screen protector, it normally helps hiding scratches
I highly recommend grabbing a glass screen protector (Nillkin on eBay is pretty good). It'll hide the scratch *and* feel great.

Yeap...
I'm using Nillkin tempered glass on all my devices and it's awesome.
First thing when I'm buying new device is ordering Nillkin TG.
I still have one I applied on Z1 and it's just like it was the first day.
I'm cleaning my devices by showering them and washing them in water so that's pretty awesome protector which could take all that and still stay proudly on screen

Metal should not scratch the screen.
Sand, glass or any other kind of silicon will though.
I had Nillkin Tempered glass, it couldn't apply/align properly. One edge was not good. Got angry and broke the glass lol. I'm totally OCD about screen protectors.
I generally do not use screen protectors, because even if they are immaculate when you put them on, they quickly become less so. The cure is worse than the disease. The only way I'd use one is if I was very very concerned about resale value and did not care if my display quality was impacted.

Screen protectors vs tempered glass is a world of a difference. Tempered glass does not show signs of scratches or air bubbles unlike normal screen protectors. They also dont hamper touch sensitivity and save the screen from the various damages we might inflict otherwise..

You can try Glass4M or iTop Tempered Glass.
iTop is quite hard to find but it's verry popular in my country. The screen protector fit perfectly and cost me about $10.
