I tried installing gingerbread keyboard and now x is stuck in force close of multitouch keyboard. Did full reset...nothing. How can I set it back to stock and start over. I recently had to get a new memory card so I have no back up file to restore from.
Wipe data/cache in recovery. If that doesn't work, then break out the ole sbf file.

Here's what user systemadminx posted on doing a factory reset in another thread....
Power off your phone. Then hold down the home button while pressing the power button. When the little android image shows up, press the search button. Then go down to wipe data/factory reset (move highlighted selection using volume up/down buttons) and select the factory reset option by pressing the camera button.

I'm not sure that that is the correct .SBF since it was posted in October.. If you are running Android system .320 or .320 then you want to use the full .320 sbf
You're right, here's a link for .320

I had to call VZW to find out how to format my Droid X, so I figured I would share the info for whoever needs it down the road.
To Format:
1)Turn off the phone
2)Hold the Power Button and the Home Button. The Moto logo will pop up followed by a triangle with the Android symbol next to it.
3)Press the Search button to display the menu.
4)4 options will pop up, use the Volume Rocker to move the selection up or down.
5)Select “Wipe Data to Factory Default.” Select the option by using the Camera hard key.
6)Confirm choice by using the camera key.
7)It will take you back to the original menu, select "Reboot Device"
You will have to re-program your phone with OTA updates.
1. Thats the recovery window. Not needed for a factory reset.
2. To do a proper factory reset follow these: 1.Go to Settings 2.Scroll to Privacy 3.Click Factory Data Reset 4. Confirm action by clicking Reset Phone.
If i am rooted and have deleted apps like blockbuster ect. Will this interfer with making like it just like it came outta the box???
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Factory reset should make your x just as if you got it brand new bloatware and all. Also remeber this will cause you to loose root. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Factory Data Reset is a tool used to remove everything that was imported, added or installed on the device.
Factory reset will not bring back any factory apps you've removed or renamed. Basically it clears /data and /cache, it does nothing to /system/apps where the factory apps are installed.
Also if you've removed or renamed Back-Up Assistant and do a reset, you'll end up with a semi-bricked phone.
This is what the verizon tech told me to do, and it put my phone back to the exact same state that it was in when I got it out of the box from vzw.
I figured someone would need this information eventually.

NO. DO NOT WIPE IF YOU REMOVED ANY BLOAT APPS.
If you do this you can kiss your phone goodbye.
Read this thread to tell you how to put back the apps the RIGHT way before you wipe, otherwise, you will be without a phone.http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/1462-how-put-back-backup-assistant-if-you-removed-but-arent-bootlooping.html

Can this work with rooted phone?
Ok kids.
This will remove root if say...all you've done is used z4 to root...and installed some root apps.
DO NOT attempt this if you've removed bloatware or installed a Rom or theme.
Safest bet is to sbf...re-root...flash maderstock...and re-sbf.
That's what I've always done. And I've had best buy fix my phone twice now.
They've never mentioned a thing.
The reason I flash maderstock is some boot animations are kept with just an sbf...
its just a precaution I take.

This is true if your phone was completely stock to begin with (other than downloading apps). For those that have modified their phone in any other way, this will not bring your phone to an "out of the box" state. You must sbf for that and then factory reset.

yeah i have to agree; the title is really what I expect most people would believe to have an entirely different meaning, ie an sbf or complete removal of all ROMs, bootloaders and most importantly, the super user icon in the app drawer.

Factory Data reset for Droid X running gingerbread.
Reset instructions for DROID X on 2.3 Gingerbread Android:
Turn off phone
Press and hold Power key + Home hard key to power on the phone and bring up a triangle with an exclamation point inside next to a green Android graphic.
Press both Volume buttons down together to show the Android recovery menu.
Use volume buttons to scroll up or down in this menu. Highlight "wipe data/factory reset"
Tap Power button hard key to confirm the selection.
Handset will ask you to "Confirm wipe of all user data"
Select "Yes -- delete all user data"
Tap Power button hard key to confirm the selection and start wipeout of phone, handset will begin to format handset showing progress with multiple lines of ellipses (....)
Handset may take from 5-20 minutes to format.
When format is complete, Tap Power button when prompted to reboot (Reboot system now will be highlighted)
You will see either an open box and the green android graphic when handset is rebooting (or the red DROID eye graphic).
Handset will be cleared of previous personal data, and you will need to start over with initial set-up process.

im trying to get my Motorola bravo out of the motorola boot screen. i rooted my phone with superonclick. that wasn't the problem, what was the problem was that. i wanted to install a new font on the system. i changed the file name because i read this stupid artical about doing that. and now i am stuck on the Motorola screen. i have already wipe/factory reset and called at&t and they say i can return the phone and get another. but if there is anyone out there that could help with this. then i would be a verryyy happy person! cause i wanna do this and get back to my live
Out of curiosity...What method did you use to wipe data/factory reset?
I found myself in this situation a couple of times and factory reset + wipe data worked.
Just so we are on the same page, what I did is have phone completely off, press volume down and hold, then press power button till Motorola comes out, then release both buttons.
Android robot with yellow triangle comes out. Press the lower right hand part of the screen and you should see a few options on the top. Use up and down to select factory reset and wipe data, press the bottom portion of the screen to confirm, touch the OK a few times if you feel the bar isn't moving.
Then you should be prompted that your phone has been reset and you are OK to reboot.

I'm having the same problem, but nothing happens when i press the lower right hand part of the screen.
I rooted it with superoneclick. the problem arose when I tried to flash a bravoX rom. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

Try using the volume rocker. If you press them both at the same time the menu should come up.

Hi, My friend has a droid x, and I tried to install the galaxy S theme on it for him, and it installed fine, but when I turned on the phone it would boot loop, (running stock Froyo) so I told him to wipe data/Cache, and now the phone won't get pass the galaxy s logo, what do I do?
Im also new at this so just making a suggestion. Hold the power button and home button down at the same time. A triangle with exclamation will appear. Press the search menu button. Use the volume buttons to scroll up or down. Could try wipe/factory reset if you have everything backed up or easy to reload.Once scrolled down to that option hit the camera button to perform the operation. I guess u pulled the battery first to see if that would reset? Again Im new at this and have done it myself but try at your own risk if there are no other replys.
Try that. If that doesn't work you may need to sbf your phone.

try a factory reset. shut down your streak then restart holding both vol up, and vol down, with the power button. choose dells factory reset from dells 4 option menu. Then wait and wait some more. When you finish that and get it set up, make a nandroid backup from streakmod or clockwork, whichever you have, that way you can just restore in the future.
What is nandroid and where do I get it.... Whats will it back up?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
if you have dj-steves rom then you have nandroid. Its in the recovery menu. When you boot into recovery (reboot holding vol up and down while holding the power button) you select update "option 2" with the camera button then press power button. When streakmod's recovery menu pops up scroll to advanced with the vol dwn key and select it with the camera button. then select nandroid then full backup. I use streakmod recovery so im not sure if the steps are the same for clockwork but im sure they are similar. But worry about that after you get your streak running smoothly again. Also i would take volnoppt out of the install.txt file.

Have you tried a factory reset yet? You could also try clearing cache and dalvik cache throug recovery. Sometimes you have to clear dalvik cache more than once. If all else fails try this, 8th post down...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966570&page=28
Complete History:
The phone started out with a Carrier ROM (can't leave that one on, right?)
so, I flashed this: JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYORTCEE_P016_A016_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
and then used SuperOneClickRoot to root it, and pushed a recovery based on the Cyanogenmod Guide.
Installed CM7, it worked well, but I got greedy and wanted CM9.
Installed this: CM9-ICS-MR0-111207-jordan-KERNEL-2.3.4-Quarx.zip
Which worked, but would crash the play store on startup.
Installed this: CM9-ICS-MR0-111213-jordan.zip
Same Error.
Decided to try a CM10.1 Nightly: CM10.1-20130328-NIGHTLY-mb520.zip
This loaded, yet showed me 2 FC's on start up, and would not let me boot into recovery anymore.
Decided to try to go back to Stock to start over, so, I flashed this: JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYORTCEE_P016_A016_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
And it got stuck in a Bootloop.
flashed this: JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
Still in a bootloop but with a different animation.
Any Ideas?

Note: Some times when rebooting after RSD lite flash your phone stuck in bootloop(M logo or it continously loading in Android menu). It is better to go to stock recovery(Hold the vol - button and then power button and then release it. you will get android logo with exclamatory symbol. Press vol - and vol + button at the same time to get in to stock recovery). Select wipe data/factory and wipe cache.

OK when you get to the screen with the android figure and the exclamation mark, press you VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN keys at the same time. Then navigate the menu using your VOLUME KEYS and once you have highlighted an option, use the POWER KEY to select.

yeah, when I press them, nothing happens.
There is no test or menu that appears.
Should I hold them for a long time ?
Should I press some in some kind of sequence ?

There is no sequence, you have to press them at the same time. Else there is a problem with your volume keys. I'll run you through stock recovery just to make sure.
1. Turn your device off.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button.
3. Whilst holding down the Volume Down button, turn on your device by pressing the Power button.
4. Once the screen turns on and the red 'M' appears, let go of the Power button but NOT the Volume Down button, keep holding that.
5. You'll be greeted by the android with the exclamation mark, now you can release the Volume Down button.
6. Press the Volume Down and Volume Up simultaneously (at the same time).
7. You'll now have a terminal on your screen from which you can navigate with your volume keys and select with your power button.
Hopefully that helps. Other wise I suggest you visit this thread:

Tap the bottom right corner in recovery(android logo), then wipe.
For Froyo recoveries you need to tap bottom right corner a few times. For GB recoveries you need to press vol+ &- simultaneously.
