A warning in regard to alarms. - EVO Shift 4G General

This morning my alarm did not go off, thankfully I have a good job and can make my own hours, so it really was not a huge deal. For those whom this could mean the difference between being employed or not, read what I have done.
I, like most people, detest the stock alarms on android, and thus do not like them taking up space in /system. Due to this, I removed all of the alarms and added my personal alarm. It turns out that if this is done (at least on rooted stock), upon reboot the alarms can (in my case will) reset to "unknown alarm", and so no noise results.
The Fix: In the system folder there is a file called build.prop, copy this to your sd card and open it with a text editor of your choice. Look for the line with ro.config.alarm_alert=, and change the entry to the alarm of your liking. Now save this file, remount /system as rw, and copy the build.prop back to /system. Upon reboot your alarm will remain as you set it.

I'm actually a fan of the alarm clock associated with the clock/weather widget on Sense. It works--at least until I start shutting it off in my sleep like I used to do with my Hero lol

My fiance uses the damn rooster alarm that's on AOSP. That thing makes me want to twist the heads off kittens and make some puppy slippers.

you can use custom sounds. They've got to be put in the "media" folder I think. Might be the same folder as custom ringtones

I realize that, that is what my post was in regard to. The issue was that with the removal of the tones I did not like, issues appeared with the selected alarm tone after reboot.

good info, and I also use the rooster from asop because it is so annoying.

The rooster literally wakes me up to a panic attack
I attached my alarm, if anyone likes a soothing alarm to wake up to, they may want to try it out.

I use Gentle Alarm and wake up to a slow fade in of Louis Armstrong Starts my day off on the right foot.

I've been using the alarm on my Hero, Optimus S, Epic and now Evo Shift and have never had a missed alarm. Are you using a task killer or something. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Task killer? I am going to try and pretend that you did not ask me that
The problem only happens when one removes all of the stock alarms from /system/media/alarms. Though this was not an issue with previous android phones, it seems to be with this one. Editing the build.prop file fixes this.

Same here.. I was 30 minutes late for work today. Checked and my alarm was set.

Repeating alarms: How does built-in "repeat" work?

Under Sounds & Notifications, when one selects "Reminders", there is a tick box called "Repeat".
Presumably this means that when an alarm sounds, it should repeat until dismissed. Mine only plays once. Am I missing something?
bump
Hi there,
Mine's a XDA Exec, and it does repeat although it pauses for about a second or two first. Not nearly loud or persistent enough to be a really decent alarm clock though!
OK, so it seems that aeAlarmPlus is the way to go - looks for an alarm and then comes up afterwards to do a repeating/escalating thing of it's own. Works well.
hi there
ok if u talking about alarms then go to clocks & alamrs --- go to alarm tab then set the time whet ever u want to set then click on the "BELL" icon
there is the option to make it repeat and even u can chose the sound
HTH

Yeah, I am using it too.
My problem is that I cant kill the alarm. It gets repeating and I am getting more and more mad. Or is this on purpose ? as I have to wake up and tick the box of with the stylus....
Anybody has the same problem?

Playing with alarms may have been the reason why my calendar was not able any more to remind me.
When soft resetting even alarms of all kind made me mad.
I hard reset (horrible job with a lot of work to do) solved my problem, but I do not touch the alarm any more.
Hope your problem is different
Huib
i have the same problem. It goes off every time and repeats for a couple of times and I dont see any option to close/kill it.. good thing I still have te sense not to bang it against the wall like an alarm clock.
i guess if the built in alarm function is not working or it goes crazy, just use any other free alarm application. i know theres a lot of free application out there.

Alarm Clock Nightmare

I did do a quick search, but couldn't find owt, but can't believe I'm the only person with problem.
I use the supplied Clock & Alarms for my alarm clock, but sometimes if I'm using something else on the phone, or already have notifications like missed calls when my alarm is due to go off, if will still sound, and vibrate, but won't come up with a message about it. Giving me no option to turn the thing off!!!
So it will go off fow a minute or two, then go quiet, then every five minutes will repeat, again with no message.
Even if I reset the device it will still continue.... I either have to wait for a message to come up, which can take 30+minutes, or if I get really annoyed with it clean reset it :-/
If anyone does know how I can get rid of this error, or what file I can load to give me the message, it will be much appreciated!!!
alarms and repeating alarms are well known to be highly unreliable.
spb pocket plus has an add in to assist with repeating alarms, but I never found it much help.
may i suggest you dont repeat them, this is a big problem.
mine got so bad after a while I had no choice but hard reset. it messed up all the system notifications and just became plain unreliable.
Yes, I've had exactly the same problems and also with Spb Pocket Plus repeating alarms too.
I've since disabled this option which has made things bettr but still not perfect

at least your alarm goes off, mine does not. an expensive device like the xda exec and a simple thing like the alarm wont work after new o2 rom update
:? :?
Does that mean if I use alarms, but don't select "repeat sound", that may be better?
I upgraded to the i-Mate ROM, and TWICE now the notification queue has died for the calupd.exe and calnot.exe. Adding appointments with alarms make no additions to the notification queue, hence I miss all my alarms.
The only fix so far has been to hard reset, and wait for the next time the notification queue dies.
Are you using Sprite Backup?
I found it to be the culprit and I have switched to SBP Backup now.
Sprite CRMdesk will give you a patch "PostBootPopup.exe" if requested that helps the problem. It solves the many notifications in the queue that can't be cleared or dismissed normally. But the issue of not waking for any alarms remained for me with Sprite 5 - even with this patch.
works perfect for me!
I just added my own sound file which has a little more agressive waking properties ;-)
If you're stuck with an invisible alarm you cant get rid off, you can use scarybear's "check notifications" proggie and take out the notification which has messed up....

Alarm problem

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but i posted in the question and answer section and got no responses....
I can't seem to get the alarm to work right on my phones. I had the mytouch 3g and now i have the nexus one. They never consistently work. I've tried searching but all the solutions i seem to find are to either download a different alarm and exclude it from whatever task killer app you have.
Is the alarm a different process than the clock app? because for the last 3 nights i have gone to bed with the phone plugged in and the clock app running and the alarm has only worked once. The clock app displays the next scheduled alarm, but this morning my alarm was supposed to go off at 7:50am but never did. I woke up at 8:30 and the clock app still said that an alarm was scheduled for wednesday(today) at 7:50am.
Mine buzzed fine this morning at 6:04 and I even had the phone on silent. I'm using the default ringtone (Ringing Alarm).
Do you have a program that's killing it? I don't use any of those Task Manager programs.

I have a task manager app but its not set to auto kill, and i put my phone on the clock app and use it as a clock when i go to bed
When you programmed the alarm, what ringtone did you set for the alarm? Or is it set to only vibrate? You may have selected a ringtone that doesnt work?
i use Fade In, its on my memory card but it has definitely worked before. but its not like the alarm goes off without any sound, it just doesn't come up at all

Try it without that task manager just to make sure it's not it that's killing it. I don't know the ins and outs of the OS but this clock app is new I think with 2.1 so that task manager might not be 100 % compatible with it.
Ive used mine for a week now and its gone off every time. Its hard to figure out what youre doing wrong without seeing you do it. Try just using the default settings for everything.

It's likely to be that.. Nothing should be killing apps except the OS, which knows about the application lifecycle. Having apps loaded that kill things when they feel like it is asking for trouble.

The alarm is a process within the app. Try un-installing it at least that way you would know for sure.
I've had the same problem and been late for a test at uni :S (Using Sense UI) I go to the clock, turn the alarm off, then turn it back on, it says 'this alarm is set to go off in 6 hours blah blah" then I turn the screen off and go to sleep, but if I use taskiller it sometimes doesn't go off, even when the clock app's ignored
if you choose the vibrate option then the alarm does not sound. thats my experience
I've never had the vibrate option on.
And I've noticed too that if I go into the alarm setting and back out so that it displays the message, that it always goes off. Just kind of a pain to do that every night.
I don't know if its just my phone... but I miss the dedicated alarm clock function...
I rely on my n1's alarm every morning and haven't had any trouble with it. I don't run any task killers especially ones that kill "all but xxxxx" IMHO that is asking for trouble.
I stopped using task killer, in favor of 'quick system info'. Which has the ability to end applications but only does so on your explicit input. (I have an absolute disdain for MP3 store auto running itself, i'd rip it out of the OS, but I don't want to root my phone just yet.) I haven't had any issues with the alarm in either case however.
I thought I was on crazy pills! Ever since I got my N1, I've overslept every day! I just ran a test this morning and changed the alarm time from 4am to 8am and it went off perfectly. I have vibrate selected and run task killer as well. I never thought that task killer would be able to kill a clock event, so now Ill try running a different task manager as suggested.
Edit: I just noticed that Advanced Task Killer has an Ignore App option, I've now ignored the clock app and will test.
I've been using advanced task killer, but I unchecked the Clock and it seems to be working fine now, still using my iPhone alarm clock though... don't want to be late for work!
So people who use task killing apps are surprised tasks are being killed? lol awesome.
Have you guys having issues installed anything like locale or timerrific? timerrific has default profiles that will change your ringer/volume settings.

lol indeed! Keep in mind, on Windows Mobile, the alarm is triggered by an OS notification service, not the alarm app itself. So who'd huv thunk it would work any different?

[Request] Stock lockscreen in Sense build

I love the Sense rom, but the default lookscreen is unusable if you put your HD2 in the jeans pocket.
I wonder if is possible to have a Sense rom with the default froyo lockscreen instead of the standar one.
I tryed many lockscreen apk from the market, but they didn't work, always have crash or the default sense slider to asnwer a call (and that is the real problem )
I think that is a common problem for many many HD2 users, and a good solution could be appreciate from everyone.
Could some developer try to realize a Sense rom with the original Froyo lockscreen?
Thank you and sorry for my poor English
its easy... get root explorer, go to root>system>apps
then search for HTC Lockscreen.apk and delete both the apk file and the supporting odex file, reboot your phone, and youre done.
EDIT: warning, however if you use your phones alarm clock, the built in HTC lockscreen has the dismiss, and the snooze button built into it, so once deleted, you will not be able to turn off the alarm, you will have to either shut down the phone, or pull the battery and reboot.

You right. But with all this trick you always have something not working.
I would like (and I think I'm not the only one) to have a Rom with all working.
how about searching for a replacement lockscreen with a slider that goes from side to side, like s2u2/iphone so it won't unlock in your jean pocket?
check this one out! http://www.appsbeyond.com/apps/screen-suite
For me deleting "HTC Lockscreen.apk" solve 50% of the problem. It solve only the default lock screen, but when you get a call, the "Call LockScreen" left as it was (up to down).
After some playing I found that deleting the "HTC" apk and installing "Full Screen Caller ID" from the market solved 98% of my accidental phone answers
there must be an option to use the stock call lock, without installing apps which cost money or have the permissions to services with cost.

I think that the problem is the sense lockscreen apk, if you do not delete it you always have some problem with lockscreen.
I wonder if deleting the apk I'll go back with the stock froyo slider also for answering or not.

Install ""DIY Lockscreen" from the market. One of the options is to have the stock lockscreen (called 'android jog' there) and it's great and far more responsive than sense

Liberty3 V2.0 bugs

OK, I would have posted this in the Liberty3 thread in the Droid X Android Development forum but I guess I need to have more than 10 posts to do so. I admit I've never really posted on here before as I've always used Android Central. This is my first time using a custom ROM so I knew I needed to come here. But enough of that and onto the bugs.
When I go into Menu>Settings>Liberty Settings>Status Bar and then try to uncheck the Hide Alarm Icon it works but then when I back out of it will default to checked again. So my setting won't save.
The second one is also in the Liberty Settings. When I click Pulldown Text and try to save my text, "Jay's Droid", Liberty Settings will force close and never save the custom text. However when I write "Jay Droid" it will save and ask me to reset the Statusbar and it works. So I guess it does't like apostrophes?
Just trying to get these bugs to the developer.
Have same issues... however my alarm will show in status bar even though if I go into settings and see the "hide alarm" is checked after I unselected it... it somehow knows still... the pulldown text has been touch and go since version 1.0 for me, most times if you change it it'll take more than 1 reboot for it to show.
sent from my Droid X running Liberty 3
Well found a few more bugs. First, with a screenshot, is the battery percentage on the pattern lock screen. When the battery is low it just dispays "%d%%" instead of the battery percentage. The screenshot is attached to this post.
Second, there seems to be something screwy with the ringtones. First, several of the stock ones turn up twice in the list when you go to change the ringtone. However, if you go to where they are through the Root File Explorer you can verify they are only in there once. Also, on the stock ROM, I was able to delete the ringtones I didn't want and copy my custom ones over to the system file without any problems. Now when I do it on this ROM I get problems. If I would try to change ringtones after I either deleted any stock tones or added my custom ones it will cause the settings to force close. So for now I'm just leaving the ringtones alone and leaving my custom tones on my SD card.
But this ROM is still amazing for the speed and stability when overclocked to 1.25GHz. I can't get over the no lag.

Yeah I too notice now that the alarm will still show in the status bar which is good. I would never turn it off anyway so it isn't a big deal to me that it stays on and neither is the pulldown text. Just thought I would try and let the developer know.
Thanks for the info
Anyone having any problems with Google Music? It now keeps force closing on me whenever I go to play a song. All my songs are on Google's servers and none are on my SD card. The only way to stop to force closing is to re-flash Liberty and then a few days later it starts all over again.

Never mind. I figured that one out quickly. Turns out, if you block ads through the ROM Toolbox app, it blocks something in Google Music that will cause it to Force Close when you go to stream your music from the cloud.

Thanks Jay.
I had the same issue with my Bionic.(Local files in Google Music played fine, but received Force Close errors when streaming from the cloud) I didn't want to settle with ads so I manually edited the hosts file (/system/etc/hosts) and found that there was no entry for 127.0.0.1 localhost. After adding this as the first entry to the custom list from Ad Blocker in the ROM Toolbox I no longer had FCs streaming with Google Music.
