I mean, Amazon MP3 is just a "google app" like the others. You never asked for the Market, but Google put it in so that you could download other apps. Same of Gmail, Browser, Email, Maps, News & meteo... you may or may not use them, but they are there. You can always adb remount and delete the apps you don't want.
I don't see the problem Amazon mp3 if u don't like don't use but I do think it comes stock on all android phones
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yeah, pretty sure it isn't crapware. It comes stock with Android doesn't it? You get an app store and a music store.
The funny thing is that carriers usually like to add their own select choice of bloatware to devices, but on my Nexus One, vodafone actually removed the Amazon mp3 bloat!
The European Union is really strict with anti-competitive behaviour, (hence the Windows 'Browser Ballot' screen), so i guess this is the reason why.
OWhatever opinions you have about Amazon MP3, whether bloatware or core gapps, the android os is forever preloading it into memory.
I suppose it's not a big deal, memory management on android is different than windows, but for me... I label all the sys apps I don't care for and every time I install a nightly, I just run titanium backup at first boot and remove all the labeled sys apps.
I originally rooted my phone just to get rid of the bloatware I didn't want on there.
Eventually I went to CM as the update messages were annoying and I couldn't update with all the missing stock stuff.
Now I'm clean and no messages.
I was wondering the same thing. I don't mind the Amazon MP3 app, but I noticed in videos of the NS it appeared the Twitter app weren't included on that phone. I was hoping maybe Google reconsidered the junk they considered standard.
i guess it would be nice for them to let us remove it without root, but i really like the amazon mp3 store being on my phone. i loathe itunes, so i only have the amazon store to buy my music. without it i would be teh suck. so i actually like having the mp3 store on stock android phones.
Well Google uses Amazon as there 'itunes' music store. I assume that Amazon will remain in there until Google setups their own.
I admit that I was annoyed by it too. Although using Root Manager (with Root access) is easy enough to delete. Custom roms usually don't include it either, which was my first choice.
Rumor has it that on Wednesday, along with the in-depth look at Honeycomb, Google will announce Google Music. So maybe they won't include AmazonMP3 when ever they roll out Gingerbread.

Amazon MP3 had an update in the last few months that only put it in memory if the user started the app.. you're saying it still memory resident even though you don't use it?
Does the Nexus S have the Amazon MP3 app?
Use Titanium Backup to freeze it, problem solved
As mentioned above, your options are:
a) "Freeze" it in Titanium Backup to stop it appearing in stock launcher.
b) If using LauncherPro, use the option to hide unwanted apps
c) Use Titanium Backup to uninstall the app
d) Delete the apk from /system/app/ via an adb shell.
e) Have a cup of concrete and harden up.
Not a big deal.
If you're like me and wanna keep using stock android, just use Titanium to freeze it.
Next update comes up, unfreeze it and update, then re-freeze it.
I did the same with TALKBACK, GOOGLE VOICE (not available in Canada) and NEWS AND WEATHER
booya.

I would get rid of everything that can easily be downloaded by the Market. Maybe even the Toshiba stuff if there are free downloadable apps that do the job too.
I think the best is, a standard android version with all the google app's.
Opera, file exploler, music/movie app's etc can easily be downloaded from the market.

no no.. only those downloadable from Market will be removed, but so far looks like they stay
those would normally be
Youtube , Gmail , Maps , Googlevoice , Twitter, facebook , streetview and such..
the GoogleApps framework services would still remain..
Adding FolioWidget will add a lot of pain for future updates
but glad to see this mod going this far
I don't need any toshiba apps, so they can go out.
For all the other things I'd like to see some basic apps included (FileManager, YouTube, FolioWidget).
Just make sure that these are not system apps and can be uninstalled/exchanged painless.
Titanium backup seems to be able to remove system apps, so maybe it is moot. I prefer not to have any apps installed which the market then wishes to update but can't (as currently DocsToGo showed before I un-installed). The only must-haves are things which can't be got from the market (unless they are packaged as a separate update, helping to keep the filesize down)
Titanium Backup
I think Titanium Backup _is_a_must_. Just think on a rom update with it preinstalled:
1. Do backup
2. Flash new rom
3. Do Restore
And everyone has his prefs, apps, etc., woking in a snap.
I think Titanium backup and a terminal emulator should be good ideas.
if you want to make everyone happy, you should include every single app in the market
but if you want a functional rom, stick with the basics.
as few system apps as possible, since it's easier to both remove and update them that way.
and just include apps with functionality that everyone needs. like a file explorer, the gApps naturally, flash and morelocale let the poll do it's thing and we'll see.
i personally think the folio stock apps are mere crap.
Thanks for your job Dexter...

After today's update, I no longer have any of my books, can't view the cloud books either. The music section is no longer there, and I have a stupid music button scrolling my last song played when I hit the setting at the top. All of my favorite apps are gone and Amazon tech has no idea why, they are wanting me to do a factory reset, but we spent so long trying to fix it that they have to call me back when the battery if over 40%. Anyone else have a problem with this update?
What update are you referring to? There hasn't been an update past version 6.2.2.
Yes, there was today. http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/...Forum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx1SYOUQZI1SLRR
It updated the reader and mp3 player and I don't knwo what else, but it also installs Google Play.

u sure about that? i don't see that listed anywhere...
I found out what the problem was, as well as the updates were coming from Google's Play!
I had the same problem. Only way to get my books back was to do a TWRP backup that was a month old.
Same here. Had to recover from an old backup using TWRP.
After all of the BS, I found it best to turn off background sync and make sure the Play is not allowed to update automatically.
Looks like it will be an active day in this forum after the Amazon KF update has tweaked rooted devices.
i'm doing following (on stock rom):
- no automatic updates (only manually)
- don't update amazon software from google play (the kf has special versions which are integrated with the stock launcher - google play is'nt aware of)
- atm this is amazon mp3 and the kindle app
if you accidentially updated one of it simply go to settings - applications and select amazon mp3 or kindle - select uninstall updates - no need to restore a backup
hope this helps ...
I too noticed that all of my books disappeared today.
I still run the stock 6.2.2 ROM, rooted, with Market (google services apps), GO and ADW launchers installed for a more android-like experience. I have my home button set to run GO launcher, and I access the original Kindle Fire UI via a shortcut to "Launcher"
After fighting with this problem of my books all being gone for about an hour, I found that:
1. the Market app is now Play Store, so it looks like that has updated itself.
2. Google's Play Store has installed "Amazon Kindle" app which seems to conflict with the native Kindle software (the app drawer used to have the app "Launcher" as the only app to get back into the stock looking UI that incorporated the reader and book list, but now there is also the app "Amazon Kindle" in the app drawer as well that allows access to books, not the stock UI though).
3. re-registering the device via the Amazon Kindle app seems to allow me access to my books, through the Amazon Kindle app, while the native UI/reader (called "Launcher", with the shelves) does not properly download/show my books.
4. Instead of short-cutting to the "Launcher" app, which is the original kindle fire UI, I set my shortcut to the "Amazon Kindle" app, which seems to work fine.
I only now realize that others are having the same problem I've had, as I read this thread. I still wonder exactly what has been updated -- is this trouble caused by Play Store or Amazon or both?
I for one will not miss running the stock UI, "Launcher", because I thought it was ugly, and now that I can't use it to access my books, it is also useless to me. I suppose that for those who do like it as a launcher, you could add the new GooglePlay-added app Amazon Kindle, to your list of apps in the native launcher, if you really like it and want to continue using it.
After all of this, I am seriously considering flashing a new ROM, which leads me to a few questions: If I run CM7, can I completely erase the kindle ROM from hogging up a portion of ROM space? More importantly, will I lose the ability to take full advantage of my Amazon Prime account I pay for, such as watching Amazon Prime videos?
I actually ran into this problem on Thursday. At first, I thought it was because I played with SuperUser and tried to install Busybox. I ended up restoring a backup that I had from when I first rooted my Fire (which was only a couple of weeks ago). Then when reinstalling everything that I had done in the meantime, it happened again. So another restore. I then started reinstalling things one by one and came upon the problem being the Kindle app. I deleted the update and things seem to be right now.
So maybe just deleting the update is enough to get things back to normal?

Makes perfect sense... Thanks, b
Mainly Swype.apk since I decided to delete it and replace it with Swiftkey but it has screen clipping issues when used in landscape mode.
I could also use a complete backup of the system apps folder but that isn't urgently needed, but I will say that a factory reset does not restore the stock apps, it kept apex launcher (which makes sense since I removed the others).
I just ripped the apps from the latest rom on the forum. If anyone has done the same thing I did, just place Swype.apk in system/app and set permissions to rw r r.
You can find the stock rom over in the development section, just extract with 7zip or whatever archive manager you use. You will also have access to all the stock apps to help you revert your kindle to stock, just remember what you installed/removed from the system/app folder.
I would upload it but the max file size here is 8mb and I can't post outside links yet

RushNY,
There is a great backup application out there, it is called Titanium Backup, you can find it here:
Titanium Backup
Just a note, I would recommend to never delete, instead create a folder on the /sdcard/ named Archive.
Then move any apk's to this folder. You may download the factory Swipe.apk through this link:
Download Link:MOD EDIT: Link Removed
A factory reset leave the /system/app intact, so whatever you delete will not be restored through
a factory reset. Finally, all the keyboard upgrades on the Kindle HD have the Landscape Clipping
issue you noted. This is due to the elaborate Proprietary Kindle Framework that has yet to be
hacked.

It's unfortunate how locked down this device is, it might just be the worst possible gift a power user could have received for Christmas. On top of that the powerfast charger doesn't always work, it starts charging then stops intermittently.
I finally got it to where I wanted to be by rooting and installing Gapps with Apex Launcher but knowing that all of this Amazon garbage is always lurking in the background bothers me. It's like Amazon is taking their shot at being Apple, but it's even worse because they're using Googles OS and locking users from using Googles apps, and most importantly the Play Store. How on earth did they get away with that?
I'd switch to a Nexus 7 but I'd feel bad because this was a gift. If only the developer scene was more active...

RushNY,
I feel your frustration and really understand. You may have a defective charger, we have handled several hundred
and have not seen that issue on the charger. They did have an audio issue on the first generation but they
cleared up that hardware issue about 6 months ago. Yes, if Amazon would relax a little, attract rather than
promote, they would have themselves a great product but they would rather force feed everything making
the Kindle an advertising platform. I suspect Amazon has a backdoor deal with Google Play Store, so
this is how they go away with not loading Google Play Store. We have traced direct communication to
Google Play Store when an application is purchased from the so called "Amazon App Store", makes
me say, hmmmm how about that! So if this is the case, it is a Win Win for everyone except the end
user! We use about 30 tablets in our company and find the Kindle to be a really solid device once
you remove the "Bloat". We will be adding more to help end users like yourself, so keep a lookout
as our Noob Series grows. Take Care.

KindleFireGuy,
Ooops, I should have caught this one. I have only been in this industry since 1982, I must have
been very tired. Thank you, we corrected the spelling error.
It's against XDA policy to distribute paid apk's.
Swype is one of these. Also , the makers of Swype expressly forbid distribution of paid or trial apks. Distributing the APK extracted from the factory device rom cannot be verified as per version number, so XDA does not allow this. It's best to pull the apk yourself from the factory rom in question. Or download the device's "system dump" which I'm sure is available in the Device dev forum.
You also may get the trial version from their web site.
Swype is officially distributed in a limited few device roms. However, including the apk in a custom rom, must be the exact same version that was distributed in the factory rom. This is why CM only includes it in 2 or 3 of their device builds.
Hello I just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 today and I've noticed it has a lot of bloatware it's not the samsung stuff that bothers me it's the others, is there anyway to remove this easily (preferably not rooting) The apps I want rid of are ChatOn, Help, Google, Google+, Messenger+, Talk, Chrome, Play Books, Play Magazines, Play Music, DropBox, Flipboard, Tripadvisor, Amazon MP3, Ebay, O2, O2 Space, Earth and google settings.
Thanks !
Well you can flash a pre-rooted debloated ROM such as Wanam's ROM, or else you can root your phone and debloat it using Titanium Backup. There is no way to remove the apps without rooting your phone.

Not sure what phone platform you're coming to Android from, but there's no problem keeping all these applications on your phone and simply not using them. The phone does not have limited space for apps, and these apps don't slow down your phone when you don't use them.
If you're really fussy, you can hide applications you don't use from appearing on your application menu. In your app menu press the menu button and go to "Hide Applications...".
Many of the applications you've mentioned are system apps, which mean they're in the system partition - in other words they are part of the actual firmware. You can't uninstall them without root, but as I mentioned there's no reason to do so. Just don't worry about it.
yes these bloatwares doesnt really bother me much due to high RAM available, unlike the phones i used before like the xperia arc s.
i have been switching back from messaging and high end 3d games with no issue. im still on where i left the game, so i guess theres still more ram available.
The phone has a quad core processor, 2gb of ram, and you're complaining about bloat!? What it can do against you!? It's just an app in the drawer...! Just disable it in apps management. It will be there. But not in the app drawer anymore, and it don't need root. If you tell me is about memory, I'll kick your a** if I ever meet you one day.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
If you do not wish to root go ahead and disable any apps you don't want to use and you are pretty much good to go. The only reason you even need to do that is some apps are called automatically when you start others even though its an app you may not use. Some will also light up and phone home looking for updates. Disabling them will prevent that.
If you do root and delete something that you later want most of them are either available on the market, Google or Samsungs.
Welcome to the dark side.
The first thing I do when I buy a Sammy phone is to root and debloat those ****s they put inside. As if I can't go to google play to install

Just goto settings ....application manager and disable the application. This will prevent it from running and will remove the icon from your app draw. This will also prevent the app updating from the market which does take up user memory

Can I ask did you remove all Google apps including Google store ? I removed all except the Google store. I understood the malware was in a hacked YouTube app, are you aware of any other issues with the installed software, eg apart from Google apps.
Thanks in advance.
I removed all the pre installed Google apps except for the Play Store, the pre installed Calculator app (which was requesting network access), File Manager, Ant Keyboard (which was being flagged as malware) and the stock messaging app. I'll probably remove the stock dialer, contacts and email apps too and install some trustworthy apps but to be honest I'm not sure how safe my data is with this phone so I'm not using it at the moment.
After removing and reinstalling the Google apps the phone runs quicker and the battery life is slightly better, YouTube behaves perfectly too.
It's a very nice phone but I just don't trust it yet.
