doministry,
Very unlikely. I don't see Windows Mobile going anywhere soon.
Cheers.
lol also note this was not from MS, but from some other online magazine whose members carry either iphones or blackberries lol
LOL not a chance. I believe in the ZunePhone or WinPhone more than this.
Edward is a bit of a nut-job. almost all his stories irritates me

headline should read "Microsoft denies killing WinMo, despite moron predictions."

Who knows but currently I don't believe
Mobile hardware will ever = desktop one.
Lol. Why you talkin' bout 25 or 150 MB?!? 16 GB on your phone is not really anything special TODAY. Think about where we've been 2 or 3 years ago - 1 GB was quite good. -> In two years, our mobiles will have 256 GB. Why would you care if Win 7 (or 8, by then) uses 9 or 10 GB?
Both of those articles are fluff and full of speculation. It sounds like an anti-MS article. Typical journalism where one writes a sensationalized article that has no substance behind it. Why is it that Android and WebOS can start from scratch and gain market share, but WM7 can't ?
I do believe that MS has it's work cut out for it though. In general media, WM barely gets mentioned in the same breath as other stuff on the market (Apple, Android, WebOS. Blackberry). However, of all those companies, Microsoft has the most resources and tricks up it's sleeve. It has the leverage of the other markets it dominates such as Exchange, Windows desktop, Zune (not dominate ), XBox, Bing/Yahoo, etc (Apple has Mac -> iPod -> iTunes-> iPhone). I see no basis on why MS would just quit and give up...hell, they just bought out Yahoo search!

I think MS has learned it's lesson to NOT put a desktop OS into a small mobile device (they've been there, done that ). A mobile device needs an OS specifically designed for mobile devices. Maybe some things "under the hood" can be similar to make it easy for developers. MS would be smart at integrating Zune and WM7, which I think they're doing.
OMG! Windows Mobile is dead!!!!
LOL...
(in case you can't tell this is said in a sarcastic tone)
lmao if Windows Mobile was to expire, then Windows Mobile 7 and 6.5 wouldn't have even be announced.

Well I'm not claiming anything,
however you miss the point - the article says "IN 2 YEARS"
so 6.5 and 7 are now, so not related.
In business nobody quits or stops anything immediately in one day,
it's a long process.
We are talking about microsoft here. a company that will lose money just to keep there place (and try and make it to number one) in a market.
i got one word : XBOX
have a look how much money they have lost to keep it on the market, and now it has a big part (although the xbox360 will end up last in sells. they still pumping money into it and having the name recognized).
The thing with WM is that microsoft did not see it as important till the iphone came out and now they are spending alot of time and money on the os and apps(6.5 pushing it more into the main market, and seven putting it up with the top user friendly os).
I don't want to see Microsoft fail. I see more and more Mac users and iPhone owners at my school, everyday.
Is it possible to get an app that is the iPhone app store as a .cab to run on my TP2? Words with friends is the app I am wanting from the app store. It is not in the Win MP. Is there a place where I can request this app be made into a .cab? May be a good idea for someone smart enough to figure out how to do such a thing.
TIA
Um, the iPhone is a COMPLETELY different programming environment from Windows Mobile. It is simply not possible for an iPhone app to run on a Windows Mobile device.
In some cases a developer will target multiple platforms (e.g. "porting" the app between platforms), for example Beejive is available as a paid product for BlackBerry and iPhone and unsupported permanent beta (more like discontinued product) for WM, but only the original auther of the application can do this, and only if they want to. It takes planning to develop a cross-platform app in the first place, and if an app was not initially designed to be cross-platform, porting is a painful process. (Usually it simply doesn't get done.)

ok so im new to this had my htc hd2 for about a week now, absolutley love it, but after having the iphone with lots of apps available for free i dont see many in marketplace could someone please tell me where i can get apps.
thankyou
There are a lot of free apps, search the forums in xda.
If you want 'FREE' apps google is your friend, but you can't ask people in here for stuff or links
The Windows Mobile platform is light years behind the iPhone for the application market. Yeh, there's loads around that do some things, but in terms of the micro-applications model that Apple has, WinMo is just nowhere near.
It won't be like that forever, but MSFT is playing catchup. Personally I think the release of WinMo 7 will be the big change that swings a bit of momentum. I still think MSFT need to release a dev environment better than the native (C++) and make it free.
I'm sure there are many more folk on here more qualified to talk such things than I am.

Ever since I wrote my review iphone vs HD2, the number of Apps in the Windows store has STILL NOT CHANGED !!!! Around 60, vs. 100k for app store? And yes, they even managed to put a fart ap among the 60!
Looking at what you can get for the iphone, I'm considering to sell my HD2. The latest one is my payTV provider that now offers a free of charge iPhone app to watch any of may pay TV chanels on the iPhone.
What about HD2? Not going to do it.
So much for HD2 and WM platform - if the software developers are not developing for it anymore, why stay with WM?

Why do you even use the Marketplace? There are tens of thousands of applications for Windows Mobile available! Windows Mobile isn't that far behind at all.
The appliacations just aren't in the Marketplace, but that's huge advantage over the iPhone: With Windows Mobile, you don't have to rely on a company to allow applications, developers can distribute their applications through whatever channel they want.
Don't bother buying anything from the Marketplace.
Instead, have a look at this forum, handango.com, mobihand.com, freewareppc.com and (for games) gameloft.com.
The best Windows Mobile application repository is unfortunately not legal, so I can't mention it, but the sites I mentioned already give you a glance at what is available for Windows Mobile.

How many apps do you think were available for the Iphone when it had just been released ?? Probably not much either. So, how can you expect that there's thousands of apps in the Windows store, when it's only just 'open for business'?
As already stated before, there's lot's of places where Windows Mobile Apps are available, many for free!
So stop complaining about the amount of apps in the Windows Store, and try searching the Web.....I hear Google is pretty good doing that for you.
can you pm the link??
i dont know about u but personally i LMAO everytime i see an iphone ad which is actually advertising the tons of apps that 3rd party devs have actually made for them rather than advertising their product....
their moto.. "an app for everything.." lol WM had an app for everything way before apple even developed iphone!
i even had an app for everything in my old Symbian S60 phone

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I don't use the marketplace as my main source of apps, and I've had an on off relationship with WinMo for quite some time and have used handango extensively in the past.
One of my biggest gripes over the App Store from Apple was its monopoly over what could be or not be in there. MSFT's model appears a little different as they appear to be more concerned about compliance rather than commercial conflicts - which is good.
But honestly, if you want WinMo to compete in the iPhone and Droid space, which I'm sure MSFT want, then their needs to be a marketplace for micro applications that cost reasonable amounts. And the apps need to be slick looking and not your usual .Net CF form bores.
I believe it will come, but it'll take some time.

Wow they use metro on server? Really?
That's going to make server administration a pain in the butt. Metro is cute and all for tablets and *possibly* for desktops, but the lack of window management just kills real productivity.
As it stands right now, linux is absolutely DESTROYING windows in the server space. In fact two of the worlds best supercomputers recently had windows replaced with linux, and there aren't any supercomputers worth mention that run it now. The number of web servers out there running IIS has massively declined in favor of Apache lately as well. (source)
This is only going to make that worse.
Hi!
I have few apps that are getting nice number of daily downloads on windows phone marketplace, but my main problem is that I'm having problem finding a decent ad-network for them. I'm currently using inneractive and the income is really bad. Which ad-network are you guys using on windows phone? I'm looking for a banner and interstitial provider.
Depends on where your traffic comes from. You wont find networks which offer good fill rates and revenues across geographies for Windows.
The best bet for you would be to try other aggregators like Smaato or Adiquity.
What about adMob? I though it works everywhere.
Some Options

I have been using Pubcenter and Inneractive ads. Though both are generating very low income I use them as there are not many options. Have you looked into adrotator? If you are developing for WP8 then you can take a look at admob; They recently launched WP8 beta SDK ( Not available in all countries).
Options include (Haven't tested them myself)
millennial media
inmobi
smaato
Hope this helps.
Did you find your ad network?
May I know which network did you tried, and how's the income?
We are trying to find a decent network to publish our ads, but... it's the same problem, we don't know which is popular in developers.

Hi,
It takes time for any app to achieve or to gain user credibility, you've to have patience for that. There are ad networks who gives right platform to app. Nowadays AdIquity is popular, you can try them or else you can try Smaato.

Hi Sohan
I don't use any SDK at this moment. I am seeking a ad network that can work on CPC or CPI(prefer).
And I need to monitor the click with our own statistics.
I went through inMobi console yesterday
It's the best for Advertiser to be honest. We don't need to mail someone to ask around, and we can put our own trace url.
But as a developer, I don't see many apps using inMobi on WP.
And as a user, all ads in app I noticed was AdDuplex.
Their homepage was filled with Android and iPhone examples.
So I have no idea how many people seriously using this.
Can you name a few apps using your service?

Looking for extra revenues of to launch CPC/CPI campaigns for Windows Phone ?
You should try AdDeals Ad Network for Windows Phone
It provides:
* Free cross-promotion for developers (1:1)
* Additional revenues (that's not a banner ad network so any developer using banners can include AdDeals!)
* Quality ads, quality content for your users
And for advertisers:
* You can run CPC / CPI campaigns by yourself easily.
* Target countries and more

Great. I am currently have apps in Android Play store only. I am thinking to publish in Windows store but afraid the ROI is very bad and not many users will download.
and for V4C adds? what would you recommend?
