to assign pictures etc to contacts they need to be in phone, not sim, copy your sim contacts to phone
people, menu, import/export, import from sim, create contact under phone, menu, select all
to stop multiple contacts showing in people
people, menu, view,uncheck sim.
I now this. But I've done this without coping to phone.
Only for one contact. I don't know how this is possible.
Any idea?
Is these a way to change the default Droid pic to the one I want
? Any of click process.

As far as I know, that only syncs the phone contacts. I think you need third-party SIM manager software.
For example this. Do google search to find more programs. I've never dealt with this, and maybe there is some registry hack or setting on the HD that will allow it. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
EDIT: What you could do is transfer the sim contact to your phone. Then it will sync along with all the other contacts. To do that, just go to your contacts and tap on a sim contact to select it. Press Menu--Save Contact
You can edit information and when your done, it will create a copy and save it as a phone contact. The sim contact will still be there.
Through Dashwire which is a free online back up programme which does work with HTC HD you can sync the contacts onto a webpage, delete, edit do whatever you like with them and sync them back plus you have a permanent back up of them online - may be of some use?
Heya,
I just got an HTC HD.
I copied my contacts from my old phone to the SIM card.
Entered the SIM card to the HTC HD.
To enter e-mail adresses, photos, ringtones etc, the contacts have to be copied on to the HTC HD.
So I copied them all.
But now they are showing all double in my adresbook. It displays the contacts that are on the SIM card and the contacts that are on the phone.
Is there a way to filter the contacts off my screen without deleting them from the SIM card?
Thanks in advance.

Different ways to get around this.
1. Go to contacts/menu/view and then select either sim or contacts
2. Install 3rd party apps like Advanced Config or HDTweak where you can disable or enable the display or sim contacts
EDIT 1
I have attached both of these for you. Maybe worth installing anyway as they have numerous other tweaks which are very useful
EDIT 2
Also, maybe worth reading the wiki...........lots of useful information
thanx
good information

Are your duplicate contacts through another mail provider, i.e. hotmail?
If through Hotmail you maybe getting duplicate contacts when you sync hotmail through windows live. Go to Windows Live and change your setup so contacts are merged instead of duplicated.
When I create a new contact my phone would give me like 3 or 4 catagories to save the contact to but i noticed the past 3 new contacts it didn't give me those options. I noticed it had put those three contacts in the T-Mobile catagory. I have looked under edit on a contact but i don't see a option to transfer. I tried to create it new but never saw a multiple selection catagory. Now my phone default assigns new contacts to T-Mobile catagory.
I'm not rooted. All stock.
Any help will be appriciated.

In contacts, hit menu then Import/Export. Choose Export to SD card. Choose T-Mobile. Confirm export. When that completes, go into Import/Export again but this time choose Import from SD card. It will ask you which account to create the contact. Choose your Google account.
If you don't want to use T-Mobile contacts you can disable it in Accounts & sync.

no worries. i need to import my contacts from my phone to my sim card. need mega help
Remember that there is a limit to a) number of contacts on a SIM card and b) a limit to the amount of information "per contact" on the SIM card. When I tried it from my old Nokia (E71) to transfer contacts when I first got the DHD I basically got as list of names with phone numbers. No other information. This could be enough for you I suppose.
But why not get a basic Nokia and use it's PC Suite to sync that phone with your contacts? Presuming you have them in Outlook or Google?

the basic phone i have dun not comes with a data cable nor the port thus i can only rely on my sim card.
Try something like this .... http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.shao.Copy2SIM ... I have no idea how good that app is but there are more of a similar nature.
Dave
thanks for ur help dvhttn but unfortunately i have tried tat app, it does not work.
Does the second phone have bluetooth abilites?
Open contacts, press menu, there is a option to import/export from simcard, as simple as that
If you don't have too many contacts that you need to transfer to sim then you can open each contact individually, then press menu, then save to sim.

Seems to me that as you can't take advantage of the suggestions below that your work needs to look at this and provide you with the correct tools. If that means a new phone then they should do that. It shouldn't fall on you to provide the tools of your job.
Dave
Have you tried contact2sim (by happydroid) from the market?
Just got the G4...anyone else not able to change the contact pictures? It let's me go through the motions but doesn't actually save the added/changed picture. WTF???
Edit - Although I can't change/add contact photos on the phone itself, I can change them from within Google Voice and have them sync up that way. While that's fine and dandy, I have to say I don't like it! I have no choice to have the contacts on my phone...they are automatically synced to my Google account. This is yet another MM "feature" I don't want. Whatever, that's me. I guess I have to adapt. I think KK was/is my favorite Android OS.

I've added photos to all my contacts with no problem. I'm not sure what your problem could be but I have 2 G4's that I've added photos to.
Are your contacts saved to your phone only or on your Gmail? I know if you use outlook or Yahoo they can be finicky. It's not a MM thing. It's the standard Google contacts app it may just be where your saving your contacts. I too have no issues saving pictures to them.
For the past 5 years I have only had my contacts on my phone. I export/import (via vcf file) anytime I get a new phone or switch roms. When I imported to the G4 I don't recall it asking to import to the phone or Google. It's my preference to have contacts on the phone...that being said, I have made my changes in Google & have synced to my phone. In the long run I have achieved what I wanted but still cannot change the picture on the phone itself. I also see no option to transfer/display contacts on the phone. Whatever.
Thanks for your input.

When you click on a contract and then go to edit mode by clicking on the pencil looking icon, you don't have a camera symbol near where you would have a contact picture?

Yes, the camera symbol is there. I can browse my gallery, select a picture, and crop it. I click the check mark to save it but it doesn't stick.
I can not change/add contact pictures on the phone. I have to do it through Gmail/Voice online then sync.
That's odd, where is the default save location for your pictures?
SD Card > DCIM. Same as I've always used.

It shouldn't matter but for grins have you tried setting a contact pic from internal storage?
