Maybe you all can help... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

okay, so today, i believe i have switched roms i believe about 8 times in about 2 hour time period. i had found a perfect one, but market was not working which totally killed it, others where just to slow.
so i need you all to see if you can help me find a rom that has the following specs:
1) Speed.
2) Mostly EVERYTHING working. market especially.
3) Long battery life is must.
4) Stock Android, but HTC Sence will do as long it FAST!
In advance, Thanks guys

Give a ROM time to settle in. 8 times in 2 hours? That's switching ROMs every 15 minutes. I can't even go through my steps to get a ROM up and running in 15 minutes, let alone test it out.
Pick one and give it a try for a day or more.
I myself am pretty happy so far with Imilka's Glacier ROM, especially with the newest update. I can't say everything worked right away, a few force closes and battery pulls, but it needs a little time and use to settle in. I haven't had a SINGLE problem with it today, and I only installed it last night. Everything I use is working, and it's smooth smooth smooth. I'm sure it could probably be faster, but I like Sence.

Sprint 2.1 Update issues

I upgraded to the Sprint stock 2.1 update a few days ago. My battery sucks ass, and the whole thing is just slow. My battery lasts maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a day and anytime I make or take a call or msg/email, the phone freezes for a few seconds at a time.
I've looked on here for answers, but it's all scattered and I can't find much that directly addresses it.
Any and all help would be useful. I'm sure rooting and trying something better would be better, but the stock working without issues would be nice. Thanks.
Rooting is out of the question for you since you upgraded stock 2.1 As far as the battery is concerned you should be able to access your battery stats in Settings>About phone> Battery > Battery use. Of course, you should check the battery use after a days use, so basically charge it to full and let it run down then check the stats on the battery and find out what is using it.
The post the results here and we can assist you further.
I think you will see the google maps issue. I looked and found that it was using 91%. I wish I could adb and pull it out...lol
btw I was quite aware of the impact installing the update.
dont worry, the 2.1 stock rom is like a red headed step child, eventually its going to get beaten so dont worry you will be Adb'ing tons of stuff out in the future lol.
So any reasons as to why it runs slow. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have stock/official 2.1 on mine....and mine works faster actually...my messaging client is wicked fast than in 1.5 .....browsing is faster too...overall the lag level is gone down for me.....
Oh and reg battery...I improved my battery by disabling "always on mobile network connection"...that helped the battery a lil bit...
I easily get a day out of my battery...
You should try to reflash and see if it gets better..

Ditto, I dont know if Im a big fan of this update ..
WOW, i have the leaked 2.1 from fresh on my hero and i have no lag and great battery life. Try another radio as i found the new stock one to be pretty bad.
I updated my girlfriend's Hero to 2.1 a few days ago, and she has been less than thrilled with how it is performing and wishes she could go back to 1.5.
She says the battery seems to drain faster, and she has been having issues with the browser (having trouble selecting text boxes because it takes two taps now due to zoom in, regular freeze ups). The messaging icon also keeps reporting that she has one message, only for her to click on it and have nothing.
One thing that hopefully will help though was turning off Latitude. She was just nosing around in Maps one day and activated it but couldn't find where to kill it. Google awkwardly buried the setting to turn it off completely under the "privacy" menu (the forth option).
What's bad is that I tried to save her the trouble of dealing with ROMs and roots and spared her Hero from my experimenting, but so far the official 2.1 seems to have as many issues as a buggy ROM would. It's very frustrating.

How much root is too much?

I've been enjoying the Froyo ROM extravaganza since the .3 releases went out a while back. This board a great resource for customizing the EVO and the people here are terribly smart (Flipz, Netarchy, Cyan, et.al).
However, with the sheer volume of ROM releases coming out lately, I found myself installing a new ROM before I went to bed at night, doing it again at breakfast, maybe another time while waiting in line to get food on my lunch break and the list goes on.
For me, too much of a good thing was, well, too much. I ended up carrying my old Blackberry Bold2 for calls because the HTC was likely being rebooted for some reason or another.
From my perspective, I was using the phone as a test bed more than for the reason I purchased it... as smart phone
This morning, I decided to revert to stock and install the 2.2 OTA. No more fun for me, at least for a while.
I'm not sure why I'm posting this other than to say this board is insanely addictive. Good work from all the contributors, but watch yourself. You can spend more time tweaking the device than actually using it.
Good luck to all and I'll be watching for the 2.2 root, but take your time. I've got some work to do!
I was doing the same. But really, that's what makes it so fun. I do however, keep a nandroid backup of my daily driver just to make playing with new roms even easier
Your right but I'm addicted to flashing also....
So am I. I think I am heading back to stock for now. Too much too fast..
P.S. - We sound like babies.
He's on that crack... Be glad you aren't using a ROM with nightlies on ROM Manager!

oh dude, i totally know what you're saying. i get my nightly hits with cm6... it's just too addicting. i flash at night, test during the day, show off in the afternoon, play with it more in the evening, flash at night, rinse and repeat.
LOL, your story is so true! I couldn't believe how addictive flashing is until I read this thread. At first I thought it was just me and my addiction, well, what do you know?!!! lol.
One thing though. Never ever in a million would I go back to stock and possibly loose root for god knows how long, but that just me.
Good luck to you my friend and hope you'll be back in this flashing game shortly.

I totally understand. I did the same thing as you. I just installed a slightly modified 2.2 OTA that gets 45mflops and 3 days of standby. If you're going to quit now, at least flash to this for your daily:

In all seriousness i was going crazy too and my gf was going to murder me. I'm using netarchy's rom (burnt droid) which is basically just a stripped down OTA with a modified dalvik. I've been on this single rom for a record 5 days and i'm very happy with it. I will need to see some pretty convincing evidence before i move to something else.
Ah it does get addicting...

I have to say that I too was starting to feel like an addict..
However, a strange bit of luck changed my habits.. I normally plug my evo in to charge every night before sleeping.. and unplug in the morning.. normally around 8 hours of charging, even when the phone really doesn't need a charge..
So the other night I didn't plug it in (the phone was at pretty close to 100% when I went to bed) and 10 hours later (nothing but cell stand by) it dropped less than 10%..
This was using AVA's V3A and SetCpu with a profile that includes screen off : set cpu 245mhz.
So the next day I got up and was pretty surprised, left the charger off and made it throughout most of the day of light usage with awesome results.. It occurred to me, what else do I need? Why swap for another ROM.. I got everything I need.. 4g, Camera, BT etc.. and awesome battery..
Now the only thing that will make me change is if AVA's evolution V10 comes out.. then I might pick up the ROM pipe and take another hit.
ROM's is about getting a near perfect experience.. sooner or later we're gonna hit as good as its going to get the question is when will that happen? For me? I'm pretty damn close..

LOL Classic! I'm right there with you. See you at the meeting.
I decided to stick with EViO from Calkulin for at least a month and resist the urge to try every new thing that pops up. One major upside to sticking with one ROM, stock or otherwise is increased battery life. Definite improvement having stuck with one ROM for the past five days. It gives your EVO a chance to calibrate the battery properly and the consistency helps no doubt about it. I've seen about a 12-13% gain simply by wiping the stats, cycling a couple of times and then just using the phone.
I know, novel concept, actually using the phone. I was really getting sick of all the posts about the 59 and 64 and 120,000 hour stand-by times. That's like bragging about how long your new Ferrari can sit in the driveway before all the gas evaporates. Ooh, ahh.
I'd rather see how far I can get pushing my EVO to the limit. How much real world use can I get out of a charge. 5-6 hours? That's about what I got on my last six Blackberries. 7? That's what I pulled on my jailbroken iPharce. If I can grab 15.25 hours like I did the last charge, I am ecstatic AND I get to actually enjoy my beast of a phone.
Plus squeezing every last drop of juice out of this thing every few days gives me a replacement fix for my new ROM jonze!

Dammit! I got suckered. Tucking in my denim shirt as I type this. Very nice move.
Ahhh, I was in the same boat as you guys......until I found the love of my life, and I forgot about all things and focused all of my attention on her. We've been together for only a week or so, but I think we may be in it for the long run. Her name? Oh, it's Baked Snack.
I will say though, that I have done some things that I'm not ashamed of. My ex, Cyanogenmod 6, just popped back into my life randomly one day. I don't know what it is, but she gets even more attractive every single day. I just couldn't resist my urges, and, well, you know what I did. I just don't know what I'd do without them both. The choices!!!!!
Edit: Oh, and did everybody see the google press release for Gingerbread a few hours ago? Check it out here.

EVO keeps force rebooting

For some reason my EVO keeps restarting randomly on me, and all the time too.
I'm running CM7 7.0.3.1 and savaged zen 2.2.0, and I have an extended battery and I rum juicedefender.
Now I don't think its the battery because I've had it for month
Its most like savagedzen 2.2.0 but idk maybe its CM7 too.
I think this started after I started playing words with friends. Doesn't seem like a memory intense app and I never had this happen but lately its been rebooting randomly, like I'm download from the market. Internet, and even posting this thread!
Basically I'm thinking of switching to either virusrom or Mik, which is better?
Sent from my dope fly fresh EVO
my chick is having the same issue. hers just reboots at random after starting to use her pandora app about a week ago.
her evo is running:
Mod version: CyanogenMod-7.0.3.1-Supersonic
Kernel version: [email protected]#1
Ditto
I have same problem, and have tried various ROM's, most recently a complete wipe as per Mikroms instructions. Only pattern I can make out is it tends to start when the CPU is stretched a little, such as running Tango over 3G, or even Angry Birds for over ten minutes. Once it starts though, it reboots several times before it finally quits.
There was another thread on this, but no solutions, instead it turned into an argument over whether it is CM7 fault; not very constructive. I have tried different batteries and changed up CPU speeds, still to no benefit.
Like I said, if I don't tax the system I have no problems, and that so far has been my only solution, but a disappointing experience with my Evo.
My dad's kept rebooting too even after the gingerbread OTA. He is running a bone stock phone(not even rooted)
Wife is having the same issue on her stock EVO with the new OTA
same issue here, playing WWF,stupid zombies or surfing the web. on decks rom and on the gingerbread 2.3 stock.
Apparently, this is a common problem with the EVO. Mine started as soon as I accepted the recent OTA update. There is an XDA thread somewhere. Just do a Google search.
Same here & 2 of my other friends. I am on my 3 or 4 EVO (lost count) & everyone does it. This is only one I rooted as well. I noticed it does it less (once every few weeks to a month) with a custom non cm rom. Also restart your phone at least every couple of days (usually I did every day). It works out pretty well. What I tell my friends don't hesitate to tell sprint you have a issue so it gets documented. So you have proof to fall back on when you had enough. It's not like you pulling one over on them. They see if you have all these issues for so long why just now saying so. I have found that for some reason phone resets in middle of calls multiple times same day with certain Bluetooths. I drive truck for living so I on phone alot with customers/work/friends/family/etc. Always Bluetooth, and did up to 5 times a day. Then bought one top of line (jawbone icon &now Bose) and doesn't do it like that anymore. Hope this helps any of you. & again any issues you get tell sprint. Last time I got a new EVO in box, & they let me keep my old one. So gave it to my mother. Then had it replaced under her #.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
Mine started out with a reboot
every so often. It finally got so bad it would reboot over and over until I pulled the battery for a few. Somewhere in the process, my GPS crapped out as well. It would work for a few minutes and then freeze. Not a good thing when you are not from Boston and trying to navigate 8am traffic to get somewhere.
I got a refurb as a replacement. It was in perfect shape and only had like 111 minutes of talk time. No telling why it was sent back but I've had no issues with it.
Mine is doing this too.. its annoying Ive restored backups and it just keeps rebooting, i dont know whats wrong. Im on avaFroyo 2.2
I don't remember where but there is a thread about this very topic. From what I read this was attributed to a corrupt data partition. My gf phone is starting to have this problem. Only fix I have read so far is to reroot phone and take it to sprint. I am waiting til they can root the ota. Then I will unroot her phone and get a new one.

[Q] My new experiences with ROMs

Essentially I am just posting this to get my count up so that I can post in the development section.
I have been using the Droid 2 since October 2010. 9 months is the longest time I have ever kept the same model. Prior to that the longest was 1 to 3 months. Even though this phone doesn't work perfectly, the length of time I've been able to endure its use says a lot.
I had my device rooted within a few weeks of acquisition. When the GB leak came out, I had it instantly.
I am still kind of confused as to why I was too scared to install a custom rom. My first rom was Liberty GB .8 And naturally it was AMAZING and EASY. I love the liberty toolbox. My battery life was insane! So many configurations and options built in! I figured if one rom was this great, why not try more...I then tried the latest APEX rom. To me, that rom seemed a little slower than liberty, so I reverted to liberty immediately. Only one known bug presented itself, and that was the adjusting of volume with a bluetooth device, the call would end. After a few days of use, I decided to take the plunge to the almighty Cyanogenmod7...
The installation process was really easy. I already had the sbf files downloaded from switching to the newer rooted GB leak. After sbf'ing z4 root would not work, so I just used the easy one click pc method.
Installing nightly updates every morning probably isn't necessary but that's what I've been doing. I gotta say, I can't wait for a stable release of this rom. I think that this rom probably isn't for the average consumer, and to definitely experiment with something like Liberty first.
There are a few things that aren't quite up to par with this rom (which will be fixed with time I know). The camera app on this rom is actually not that bad. I have gotten used to it. But I can tell that when I have it set on 5MP, that the picture quality is not as good as the stock app. The flash is also not as bright, and I have seen a setting to tweak that, just need to get around to doing it.
With Liberty, I was honestly able to make it 36 hours without having to recharge my device, and was using it heavily (gps always on, bluetooth connected, navigating, phone calls, texting tons, etc). However, with cm7, even with sync off, bluetooth off, and brightness set to low, the battery seems to just fade away, even after re-calibrating it. And yes I am sure the fact that the battery percentage is in the notification bar, that being able to see each percent, might have a little to do with it. Even with the governor set at 600mhz, and profiles with setcpu, still crummy.
Anyway, I am thankful to no longer have problems with my keyboard backlight, and having the ability to use wireless tether, and netflix. (And I don't want to hear any negative remarks about it, because I constantly use wifi when I can, and I rarely reach 1GB of data use). My phone now runs FAST.
Alright, only 9 more posts like this to go.
So, overall, you would recommend Liberty above the others at this time?
If it came down to battery life as the biggest concern, by far, liberty. Its pretty darn fast too. But if you have an extended battery and are able to endure a few kinks for a short time, then try CM7.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Speaking of, I went back to Liberty! May go to 0.9 but the changes aren't that significant. It was nice to be able to cm7>LGB without sbf'ing!

Issues with (ROM)....AT(HoneyComb)RIX V2.6C ..1.3GHZ TUNED CYBORG FROZEN HONEY

Hi,
I started this thread because i'm new to this forum and I can't yet post on the development thread of this rom.
Today i flashed this rom into my atrix, I followed all the instructions, which were, first install the base rom 1.3 from recovery cwm, factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik, reboot, it booted fine, I used it for a bit, and it was fast. Then I flashed the 2.6C rom from recovery cwm, wiped cache (no factory reset). Well, that didn't work for me, when I rebooted the booting screen got stuck where the Unlocked sign appears, so what I did is restore my stock backup rom and repeat the process (the exact same thing I described before). This time everything was fine, 2.6C booted.
The problem is, that the battery meter is running as if it were a countdown timer, it's draining my battery in a way that I couldn't ever imagine, not even my old blackberry torch was able to do such awful thing.
Also, charging is taking forever (1 hour to get 14% using the dock, which charges faster), not to mention that the phone is hotter than hell, the battery temp is normal though. Also if I connect the phone to my laptop to charge it, it actually discharges, meaning that is consuming way to much power than it is receiving.
Another issue I'm having is that I can't hear any music, winamp crashes when loading the song list, so is the stock music player.
Can I anyone point me in the right direction in case I did something wrong? Or do I just give up and return to my stock rom?
Your help would be much appreciated! And probably others have the same problems as I do, and you'll help them too.
Cheers!

Yes what you need to do this time is not to use the honey atrix 1.3 overclock use the 1.1 overclock because it is just your processor running faster then it should be. If you use the star wars rom and i have had that for about two to three days now it has been fast and smooth. I used v2.6 and NOT 2.6c if you can't find version 2.6 then please try to use alien v4 rom is very nice and stable but star wars give you the more speed and pretty good battery life i think so far.
I hope that helps sir!
Thank the post if it helped please!

Thank you for your answer!
Isn't supposed to be overclock capable using setcpu, but not actually overclocked by default after install? That's what I thought in the first place, and that is why I was thinking this issue was weird.
I'll keep your advice in mind, actually star wars rom was my first choice, but I didn't like the theme at all. It would be nice if a stock theme version was out, like cherryPI, which the none themed version is called cherrycrust I think.
As of now, seems like my phone is starting to normalize, is charging yaaay! 35% now, I actually just made a 5 minute call and it just used 1%, could it be cured? I really hope so. Also the music players appear to be working.
This is such a weird issue if you ask me.
I'll leave it charging overnight, and let's see how it behaves tomorrow, if the problems are gone, I'll try it for a while, and if not I'll flash star wars.
Thanks a lot!
You should use kenn's alien rom without the theme and then theme it as you wish. It really is the best rom imo.
it works perfect
just flash the non oc if your phone hates it
but yes setcpu is kind of required. it was just assumed everyone has it or knows where to get it..
ill update the op as well
its my rom of choice right now and im getting 14 hours battery
restored two different backups (cyanogen)(and starwars)TODAY ON THIS BATTERY ,
and then restored honeyatrix again in one day
also
made calls
played sprinkle
texted all day
foursquared
internetted
gmailed... all damn day i was getting emails
running wifi searching all day
using google music
ran like 10 tests each quadrant and smartbench(dont ask)
id say thats pretty good
If you don't want to overclock then just flash the rom then flash the stock kernel from fauxs thread.

I appreciate all your comments, I'll take your advices in mind, and I will try your recommendations.
As of now, my phone is working fine, heat is normal, speedy, and battery is around 40% (I disconnected 7:30 hours ago), which is actually not so different from stock, probably I would have 5 - 10% more.
Thank you all!
