The touch screen on my DX stops responding several times a day. It very random, it can be during a text, answering a call, etc. If I lock and unlock the screen, its back to normal. Its running the OTA 2.3.340 and is rooted, but this started prior to rooting. The "tech" at VZW said to do a factory reset but I'd rather not have to re-setup everything. Anyone else have this problem and have you found a fix? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I have this exact same problem
Are you using a rom? It happens to me every once in a while, maybe every other day or so, sometimes twice in a day. I thought it might be the rom I'm using. I'm on liberty but everything else works fine for me so I was just waiting it out till they get version 1.5 released.

No other ROM, it is stock other than rooting and removing a few bloatware packages. It did this before removing any of that though.
My phone just started doing this recently as well. I think a program running in the background might be at fault. I'm still trying to find out which one

It happens to me while trying to use lock screen... I'm on apex and it always happened while using apex and on liberty until i switched to the rotary lock slide

Same issue here.I think this is a documented bug, and I haven't seen anyone post a fix for it anywhere

It seems to happen after the phone has been on for an extended amount of time. I don't have lag, and I'm not using the gps when it happens. In fact, it usually happens when I sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? My phone is not modified. I'm even running plain touch whiz. I'm considering returning if I can't resolve with a hard reset. No third party apps are running when this occurs. I routinely close processes before I stop using the phone. I love this phone, I'm just worried I have a bad unit.
i'm having a similar issue, but with a rooted vibrant. the problem has spanned across two different handsets. the first one i rooted almost out of the box. but after a few days it started locking up after sitting for a while and i would have to pull the battery to get it to come back on. so i returned it, got a new one and held off rooting it to see if this one would do the same thing. the non rooted one had no problems at all, so i bit the bullet and rooted this one too, and sure enough later that same day it started doing the same freezes when trying to unlock it.
as soon as i rooted the second phone i downloaded rom manager and made a nandroid backup. after the backup i proceeded to remove some of the bloat, like dual clock, the startup/shutdown sounds, and some of the other crap that the vibrant comes with. i also installed and started up setcpu. it seemed that after i did all of this is when the freezes started up again. so i did a restore to before i removed all that stuff and now the phone is fine again. what is it about my process that is making this phone lock up like this?
EDIT: nevermind...i found some other people with the same problem in a setcpu thread...seems setting the sleep profile too low will cause the phone to not wake up after sitting too long
Uh, I'm not getting any freezing, but I know there is an issue with SetCPU. A certain setting will causes problems on the Vibrant. My issue is just unexpected reboots after the phone has been on for approximately 170 hours.
I had many random restarts and general craziness from my non rooted stock vibrant. A factory restore fixed all problems.

Yeah, if it happens again I'm going to try a factory reset.

Well I have this very annoying issue. This has happened with just about every ROM. My slide to unlock disappears, and the home and search keys do not work. Also, I can wake my phone up with the camera button.
I just loaded fission about an hour ago and it happened again. I have searched for a fix, but the only thing that I have found is to do a reset. Well that gets annoying after doing it 5 times a week. Anyone know of a fix?

SBF and manually restore your settings. Don't use any backups.
Lame, I was hoping there would be a better fix. Thanks for the input. I may return the phone if it keeps doing this, because I don't ready want to keep restoring.

Hi
I have a rooted stock ROM/Theme MT4G which I noticed last week that it stopped going to sleep. If I set the timeout to 15 seconds (or anything) then right after the timeout is reached the screen sleeps and then within a second immediately comes back on (to the lock screen). It keeps doing that no matter what settings I try. This of course kills the battery life with my screen being nearly 100% of use.
I thought it was related to an app update so I removed nearly everything I could to no avail. Thinking that it was something related to the ROM I decided to try a different ROM. I installed CM7RC2 and low and behold the same problem persisted. I had to disable trackball wake for this problem to go away. I then tried several other ROMs and the problem still remained. I've attempted the various Royal* ROMs and the same problem persisted. Any Sense based ROM was problematic since I had no way of disabling Trackball Wake so I'm now running CM7 (nighties).
The other snag I'm having is that I too have the problematic power button but in my case I have to REALLY press hard to operate the power button which of course is annoying.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this sort of problem?
Thanks.
Did you check out the Cyanogen mod 7 in settings ?
I did. That's what I'm running now.what exactly are you suggesting? Thanks.

I had the same thing. I booted into recovery and wiped data and cache and flashed again and everything worked.

I must have done that a bunch of times already but nothing worked except CM7 because I can disable the trackpad wake function. I wish Sense based ROMs allows for disabling the trackpad...that would be greatly appreciated. An even more helpful feature is the ability to remap the buttons.
Is it possible your trackpad is defective? DO you notice other odd behavior that could be related to it?
If your using google voice its the application doing that you can fix this on cm 7 by moving the application to the Sd card.

I believe this is a real hardware issue... It seemed that the optical sensor in the trackpad is broken and it's always sending signal to the kernel telling that it detected activity but in reality nothing was going on, so the kernel can never go into power saving mode.
Sense UI is a CLOSED SOURCE software, there's nothing you can do to patch it.
Since ALL MT4G are still under the 1 year Manufacturer's warranty, you should call T-Mobile/HTC to get it fixed or just get a replacement....
Ok I found a solution for us mt4g owners with the messed up trackpads, you are gonna have to flash virtuous unity rom v. 2.39 and then apply this patch:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28766802/Virtuous/trackpad_disabled.zip
This patch was made by one of the developers of the rom chrisch1974 specially for this issue, so good luck =D
Same problem, but found work-around
My phone (MT4G) has the same issue but I know why it happened. I got caught in the rain and although I had the phone in my pocket, it got wet. Everything works except that. I left in a bag of rice overnight to no avail.
Anyway, when I press the power button to send it to sleep mode, it just comes back to the lock screen. If I let it time out, it goes out but comes right back to the lock screen. Sounds familiar?
What works for me is holding the home button (the one with the sensor) and, while still holding the home button, pressing the power button once. It is then that I let go of the home button.
Works, but sometimes I have to repeat this charade a couple of times before it sticks. Usually have to repeat it when I don't fully press the home button.
Anyway, hopefully this will help someone that is stuck with this phone and is unable to get a replacement.
Suddenly, my phone screen just turns on for 2 seconds, then goes back to sleep
for no apparent reason, (no notifications)
I factory reset it and it still is doing this
Any ideas of what might be wrong?

Same thing happens to me alot. I'm also using widgetlocker but it still does it when disabled.

Weird, I use widget locker as well and have never had an issue like this(not since 1.26).Its most likely an app causing it. Freeze non-stock apps that you have loaded one at a time and see if it stops. I vaguely remember mine doing this way back pre-1.57. Hasn't happened since. In widget locker try checking the (dont allow 3rd party apps to put WL in suspend.) May help on that end.
Edit: Sorry didnt pay attention to your post closely enough. When you say you reset the phone. Do you mean you flashed a clean SBF or just used a backup??
Have had my nexus 4 for 2-3 weeks and it has shutdown on me 2 times so far. Both occasions the phone was untouched and was shut off without me knowing, how long and when I have no clue but on power up my wallpaper is reset to default. I don't notice anything else besides that being changed. Anyone have a clue to a fix?
What ROM u have? I'm having same issues. I'm using Xylon. I'm bout to flash Franco #28 kernel and see if it helps.
U should try flashing a new kernel too.

bone stock. haven't done anything to it.
I also get something similar. It happens when I lock my screen. Once the screen goes off, it sometimes won't come back on until I restart my phone by holding down the power button till it's off, and then booting it. I'm not sure about my wallpaper changing, but it has happened on every rom I've used. Also, It didn't happen on stock, but I don't think I was even on stock for a week.
This never happened when I had stock...it started happening when I flashed the ROM. Hope Franco's Kernel helps.

this happens to me from time-to-time. It's not a hardware issue, it think it's a glitch with this version of the os.

Well, I called and got an RMA. Seems like a known issue as well as a battery life issue some others seem to be having. Maybe they are connected in some way. Rep said this new batch they are sending out (RMA's) do not have these issues. I hope so...
Put me down as someone having this issue, Happen 3 time now, On stock rooted os.
I read that Google have confirmed there is an issue with the latest OS that can result in random reboots. I think it has to do with location services.
I also read that turning off any options for emergency broadcasts can help with random reboots.
Some widgets that use weather can result in reboots (due to them using location services to get correct weather), and since I disabled all emergency broadcasts and stopped using widgets that show weather, I have not had a random reboot (and I was having at least one every two days before). I am still using widgets that have the ability to show weather, but I just do not show weather and this seems to help.
Random reboots was causing a major battery drain for me and since I stopped getting these reboots, my battery lasts much longer.
I am on stock ROM, rooted.
