need to reflash, using new keis, but how? - Galaxy Tab General

on the carphonewarehouse tablet,
i upgraded to the new firmwire when i first got it,
but now i removed some stuff from the /system and doing a hard-reset doesnt fix it it
so
i need to reflash - but how:? how do i reflash the device - USING KEIS...

i know this is WODI, but
BUMP

Find what software version you have, d/l it from here or samfirmwares and flash using Odin

safety
is it safe? i mean will it void my warrenty or anything?

?? You rooted, right? In order to remove things from /system. That in itself voids the warranty

It's only as safe as you are careful doing the flash, so long as the ROM you flash doesn't contain any bootloaders your device would be recoverable if something went wrong pretty much no matter what. As TheGrammarFreak says, if you rooted your Tab already, there goes your warranty anyhow! It is possible to flash the CPW stock JJ7 ROM with Kies if you use the Kies registry fix to fake the previous version (JJ3 I think). Otherwise you could flash the CPW JJ7 with Odin. I have a copy of it on my PC and will upload it to MultiUpload for you and post a link here for you to download. Link will be up for you tomorrow as upload will take about an hour and a half.
Here's the link to download the UK Carphone Warehouse JJ7 stock ROM: http://www.multiupload.com/Q6CBPHVRCN
I've never actually flashed this package myself, I had just downloaded it a while ago from Samsung's FUS in case I ever needed to put my Tab back to stock.

To maybe clear your mind about warranty; while it's technically void, no one will know when you revert to stock.

[Q] Anyone tried flashing stock rom

Anyone tried flashing a stock rom after raising the Knox void flag?
I read somewhere, someone saying that its not possible to flash a stock rom after the flag activating....
If it is possible, do we lose OTA functionality?
Thanks

I'm wondering the same thing...I don't care about the warranty but if I sell the phone after the one year Samsung warranty is up I would like to be able to put it back to a state where the next owner will receive OTA updates.

Cool, so in regards to flashing back to stock, were you able to flash any (csc/region) stock rom or were you limited to your own csc that came with the phone.

If I select my phone and UK it gives me a MK9 version. Is that ok? or will that be 4.3.
Can I ask another question too please. If I was to update to an official sammy 4.3 rom and then root. Would I still get the knox count or problems??

Let me makes things clear for you mate , right now i have an old bootloader (No Knox warranty void, when i go to download mode) means i can flash any 4.2.2 firmware without having any knox void warranty. this is what i do i flash a pre-rooted rom then use a triangle away to reset the binary and use Phil recovery and flash any 4.3 custom rom i want! but if you need to send your phone to samsung because there's a hardware problem , feel free to flash a 4.2 from you country.(Since more likely after they fix your phone they will prolly update it to 4.3) remember flashing a 4.3 mk9 stock rom means a new bootloader/Knox void warranty 0x0 willl be activate. So if you flash root/custom rom that should void your warranty to 0x1 Please feel free to check more about Knox from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832

Yes I understood that. I'm in the same situation as you as in the way I flash ROMS. I didn't realise that the counter still worked even if it was an official update with bootloader, just thought if I flashed a custom rom with new bootloader it started the Knox warranty void.
Thanks for all your help. I'm gutted now though coz your right Samsung probably update my phone and then I'm b****ed anyway if I root again and custom rom it. Your link doen't take me to a 4.2.2. rom though so I'll keep looking.

You need to flash a pre-rooted rom from djembey thread. Then you can use triangle away to reset the binary .and the flash a stock rom and sent it for repair. Please read the instruction on djembey thread so you wont void ur warranty.
2nd opinion . Flash a stock rom with odin by selecting PDA. And root your phone using saferoot (i dont know about this if it works) install triangle away . Reset binary . Reflash stock again then send.
Sent from Hell ?
Is the pre rooted stock rom so that triangle away will work??? I'm on a pre rooted custom rom but need a samsung kernal for triangle away to work properly. If a flash the stock rom I have on 4.2.2 will that aslo flash stock recovery???

You've been a great help thanks. Stock recovery is that also flashed when I flash the stock rom last through odin???
So I'm gonna flash a stock rom pre rooted 4.2.2 with CWM then use triangle away then flash stock samsung through odin.

Anyone know how to get rid of that "custom" logo on bootup?

So, I have the MF3 firmware and wanted to update it to the latest version. I backed up my phone, went to settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset->Factory Data Reset
I wiped my phone and after all that, it still has the custom logo. What can I do to get rid of the custom logo so I can update my phone? Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

I did, but I also did a full unroot using the superuser thingy (I think it was Super SU). My understanding is I should be able to remove root, restore to factory default and the custom logo would go away. Any idea why it wouldn't be working?

I have the S4, Because I have MF3 firmware, I've been pretty careful to avoid doing any sort of custom flashing to avoid bricking my phone (since they locked the bootloader). Do I have to use ODIN to reset the custom status? And are there any significant risks to the phone if I do it this way? I'm aware anytime you mess with these kind of things, there is some risk, I just want to know it should be safe, it's been tested before, and I'm not just rolling the dice and hoping for the best.

Using TriangleAway app might brick ur phone and it might affect our phone, if u try it and it is Hard Brick and thats will be a problem over there.
Hard Brick and Soft Brick are different
Hard Brick is your phone is dead can't turn to recovery or download mode and you need to change ur motherboard
Soft Brick is usually just when you're phone is stuck in a bootloop, and as the name implies, is caused by a software error, usually the lack of a system to boot from or some other minor software bug that glitching boot. They are easily fixable by reflashing your ROM in recovery.

All I found for firmware is MDL and MDB. I'm on MF3 but I'm not sure which of these I can use. Would I want to use one of these two? Or would I want to use the TAR files from this location?

I had done that. I did finally get it working after resetting it a few times. No idea why that is though . . . Hopefully, I'll get those OTA updates soon so I can go back to enjoying my phone. I hate stock so much and don't see much point in making many changes since I'm going to just reload everything via titanium backup once it's all updated.

Note 3 firmware information and problems

Hi all,
As many for sure I've upgraded my N9005 to the last firmware. Android 5.0.
I have a stock device with stock firmware, so my update was made after I get the samsung information on the screen.
Now I have some problems with this upgrade: bluetooth don't work good with handsfree carkit, even after I turn off carkit I still have the connected image on the phone, bad sound, etc...
Today I've contacted the support team from samsung over chat and after many talk the guy say to me that this upgrade was not available to Portugal!
So I would like to know if there is a way for me to know all about my phone? Where was made? For what market or country? all...
My firmware version is: PDAF1 / PHONED3 / CSCE1 (TPH)
I get this from kies.
Thanks for comments
This app should give you some of that info. I have used before.

Thank you for the link. With that I could already confirm that the samsung guy was lying. I've confront him with the information from the app and he couldn't say nothing.
Anyone else have an issue with bluetooth where the symbol keeps as connected after is disconnected?
Also I've noticed that S-Planner now won't allow to copy events from one day to another... if you like you have to write them all again or change the date...
Sorry to say I'm not very happy with this firmware upgrade
If it was an upgrade , then there might be some old files causing problems. First thing to try might be a complete wipe (remember to backup your data first).
You could also try rolling back to kit kat using odin.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
already made a full reset. Not solved.
regarding the roll back... tomorrow I'll go to samsung repair service and see what they say. Still at warranty.
Ah, yeah wouldn't advise odin then as will void warranty.
Good luck.

Flashing a stock ROM through Odin will not void the warranty.
Actually it voids warranty as far as I know. I mean the KNOX counter could be 0x1 after flashing anything through Odin, but again, I am not certain about that at all.
About the BT problems, well I have read from a ROM compiler here, that OF3 is the ROM which's stock kernel comes with BT fix (I use OF3, have been using it over a month now, no audio listening or talking in car, but my super old GV-435 is connected all time, and never had a disconnection issue!). Now I don't know that, but I have read it anyway. So you can try the OF3 ROM, that'd be my suggestion that's all. Before flashing the ROM do wipe the phone completely though, take backup beforehand if you need.
Flashing a stock ROM from sammobile.com should not trip knox as the software is official software that has been signed by Samsung.
Flashing software that has not been signed by Samsung will trip Knox, depending on the ROM version on the phone. I have a sm-n900w8 and I could flash TWRP, root, etc. without tripping Knox. I used an OTA update to get to Lollipop DOC4 and Knox was still fine. I then flashed DOH1 from sammobile using Odin and Knox was still 0x0. I then flashed TWRP and Knox is now 0x1.

Help with unrooting, going back to stock (damaged usb port)

Hi guys I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F in the UK on 4.4.2 KitKat Stock Rom, rooted with towel root and Knox 0x0.
Unfortunately my usb port has damaged today and I cannot charge or connect to PC. I need to send my phone for repair to Samsung under warranty.
I understand they will factory reset my device after repair. So I need to unroot my phone and bring it back to official status without tripping the Knox counter. Can someone advice me how to get it back to official status? thanks
P.s. I did try to unroot it within the chainfire SuperSU app and it did unroot but however when I went to "about" phone to test the software update, it said my phone is modified. So any help here please. Thanks
It's various difficult and dangerous to unroot without the use of a PC. You can try to use mobile ODIN as that appears to be the only solution now.... or take the phone to a 3rd party shop.
What if i unroot within the Superuser app, and do a factory reset from settings, and then a factory reset from stock recovery? Would that do the trick?

No. I tried to unroot using the full unroot button and it unroofed but system was still custom. Have to reflash the stock firmware to get it back to official.

Mobile odin maybe, but not Flashfire as (I believe) with FF, you still need to use odin to flash bootloader and modem after the FF flash. If you are on 4.4.2 Mobile Odin should work, but not for 5.0 if i read correctly......
BUT....
You're in a catch 22 position, if the flash goes bad you can only recover with PC Odin, and at the moment, you can't.....this is entirely your choice, but if it were me, I'd not be risking it.....

I cant seem to find any posts on flashing to stock with mobile odin on any forum.
If i hold the cable in a particular position it connects to pc, but it can disconnect if it moves a tiny bit even.
If i did it via pc odin and the cable disconnected, would that brick the phone aswel?

A usb disconnection mid odin flash will more than likely irrecoverably brick your device.....

Thank you, could you please advice me how to do this process, i am not familiar with kernals and mobile odin.
So far i have purchased the mobile odin pro app and downloaded stock firmware from sammobile and put it on the external sd card. And downloaded the kernal from post #13.
Some instructions would be greatful, thank you.

Ok...If you purchased the pro version, you won't need that flash kernel as mobile odin will download and install it for you.
The firmware needs to be unzipped to its tar md5 file.
Open the app, let it dl and install the flash kernel then use the in app file explorer to navigate to the firmware file location and select it. It will tell you what partitions have been loaded. Enable all the wipes (very importsnt), uncheck ever root and the option to re install mobile odin.
Then press start.....let Mobile Odin complete the md5 check then it will flash the firmware......
All you have to do is sit back and wait.

Hi mate, i just attempted to use mobile odin now and it gave me a message saying it will trip the knox counter on my device. That seems like it is defeating the purpose of my use? does it trip the Knox counter even when flashing stock firmware? please confirm. thanks
Oh? That's the first I've heard of that.....
I can't answer with any certainty as although I have used Mobile Odin on other devices, I've not yet used it on my S5......
Edit.......
This thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2843044
....would indicate that using mobile odin does NOT trip knox......
As far as i was aware, flashing Samsung 'signed' official software will leave knox intact.....it's only if you flash 'unsigned' unauthorised software that knox is triggered.....

Okay so with a big risk i managed to flash stock firmware via pc odin by holding the usb cable tight in position while flashing so now im all official now. Just wondering if the samsung authorised dealer would repair the usb port free under warranty or there would be a charge?

If you live in the EU and you can prove your phone is less than 2 years old, the repair will be covered by the warranty.....
That is the law.....in my phones box, I have a 'warranty card' that states Samsung will comply with this too.....

It *is* hardware, and you could argue that it is reasonable to expect that it should last more than 2 years. It just depends on how it became damaged and whether there are any signs of 'unusual', unexpected damage.....

Just gave my phone in to the authorised samsung dealer, he inspected it and said it seems like a unusual damage, and its 50-50 if samsung will repair it under warranty but fingers crossed.
He also said if samsung see it as a damage than a fault, they will reject to fix it, and it would cost me £33 handling charge to get the phone back to the dealer who i submitted my phone to. So i will know in 5-10 working days.
Thanks
