Help with unrooting, going back to stock (damaged usb port) - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F in the UK on 4.4.2 KitKat Stock Rom, rooted with towel root and Knox 0x0.
Unfortunately my usb port has damaged today and I cannot charge or connect to PC. I need to send my phone for repair to Samsung under warranty.
I understand they will factory reset my device after repair. So I need to unroot my phone and bring it back to official status without tripping the Knox counter. Can someone advice me how to get it back to official status? thanks
P.s. I did try to unroot it within the chainfire SuperSU app and it did unroot but however when I went to "about" phone to test the software update, it said my phone is modified. So any help here please. Thanks

It's various difficult and dangerous to unroot without the use of a PC. You can try to use mobile ODIN as that appears to be the only solution now.... or take the phone to a 3rd party shop.

What if i unroot within the Superuser app, and do a factory reset from settings, and then a factory reset from stock recovery? Would that do the trick?

No. I tried to unroot using the full unroot button and it unroofed but system was still custom. Have to reflash the stock firmware to get it back to official.

Mobile odin maybe, but not Flashfire as (I believe) with FF, you still need to use odin to flash bootloader and modem after the FF flash. If you are on 4.4.2 Mobile Odin should work, but not for 5.0 if i read correctly......
BUT....
You're in a catch 22 position, if the flash goes bad you can only recover with PC Odin, and at the moment, you can't.....this is entirely your choice, but if it were me, I'd not be risking it.....

I cant seem to find any posts on flashing to stock with mobile odin on any forum.
If i hold the cable in a particular position it connects to pc, but it can disconnect if it moves a tiny bit even.
If i did it via pc odin and the cable disconnected, would that brick the phone aswel?
Sent from my SM-G900F using xda premium

A usb disconnection mid odin flash will more than likely irrecoverably brick your device.....

Thank you, could you please advice me how to do this process, i am not familiar with kernals and mobile odin.
So far i have purchased the mobile odin pro app and downloaded stock firmware from sammobile and put it on the external sd card. And downloaded the kernal from post #13.
Some instructions would be greatful, thank you.
Sent from my SM-G900F using xda premium

Ok...If you purchased the pro version, you won't need that flash kernel as mobile odin will download and install it for you.
The firmware needs to be unzipped to its tar md5 file.
Open the app, let it dl and install the flash kernel then use the in app file explorer to navigate to the firmware file location and select it. It will tell you what partitions have been loaded. Enable all the wipes (very importsnt), uncheck ever root and the option to re install mobile odin.
Then press start.....let Mobile Odin complete the md5 check then it will flash the firmware......
All you have to do is sit back and wait.

Hi mate, i just attempted to use mobile odin now and it gave me a message saying it will trip the knox counter on my device. That seems like it is defeating the purpose of my use? does it trip the Knox counter even when flashing stock firmware? please confirm. thanks

Oh? That's the first I've heard of that.....
I can't answer with any certainty as although I have used Mobile Odin on other devices, I've not yet used it on my S5......
Edit.......
This thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2843044
....would indicate that using mobile odin does NOT trip knox......
As far as i was aware, flashing Samsung 'signed' official software will leave knox intact.....it's only if you flash 'unsigned' unauthorised software that knox is triggered.....

Okay so with a big risk i managed to flash stock firmware via pc odin by holding the usb cable tight in position while flashing so now im all official now. Just wondering if the samsung authorised dealer would repair the usb port free under warranty or there would be a charge?

If you live in the EU and you can prove your phone is less than 2 years old, the repair will be covered by the warranty.....
That is the law.....in my phones box, I have a 'warranty card' that states Samsung will comply with this too.....

It *is* hardware, and you could argue that it is reasonable to expect that it should last more than 2 years. It just depends on how it became damaged and whether there are any signs of 'unusual', unexpected damage.....

Just gave my phone in to the authorised samsung dealer, he inspected it and said it seems like a unusual damage, and its 50-50 if samsung will repair it under warranty but fingers crossed.
He also said if samsung see it as a damage than a fault, they will reject to fix it, and it would cost me £33 handling charge to get the phone back to the dealer who i submitted my phone to. So i will know in 5-10 working days.
Thanks

Downgrading your software is a security risk for Samsung, so you can't do it anymore.
Your flashing and fiddling probably triggered Knox and now your warranty is permanently gone.
Don't mess with your phone unless you know what you are doing.

ok...
from day 1 dont have Knox in odin downloading mode, only have Bit counter 0x0
And when i updated from Kies 3.0 then after lost my recovery mode and after re installing recovery mode through odin 1.83 then
Bit counter 0x1
I didn't install any custom rom or Auto root...
i am really confused...????
if it said 0x1 then the knox fuse is triggered and your warranty is void regardless.
Can you take a picture of download mode (odin mode) and post it so I make sure?
Yes I confirmed that warranty bit is 1 and there is no knox counter...
That means kies will remove warranty after updating....
So Samsung store will not give replacement of this device...???

Can I update from the official KitKat firmware through Odin or Kies and *not* lose an

Hi, I am a total noob in the area of updating my Note 3, so please guide me.
I want to update my Note 3 with the official firmware of Poland through Kies or Odin ( I know how to do that)
But one thing I'm afraid of and don't know is whether I will lose all my data (apps OR Phone data) if I update through Odin or not?
Just a note, I am trying to keep my Note 3 totally unrooted, untampered with in any other way. So will updating through Odin also increase my Knox number?
Thanks.

You 100% need the new bootloader for it to work and even boot properly, and you will lose root. MOP won't work.
Anyone thinks android 4.4.2 can be falshed with mop, keeping 0x0 root and it will start withthe old bootloader?

[Q] Reverting back to stock

Hello everyone,
I have Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 and using CyanogenMod's installer version a few months now.
CyanogenMod's installer has A LOT of problems and I had enough of it and want to go back to stock.
Before I moved to CM I had 4.3 and also Knox bootloader so it went to 0x1 after CM's installation.
I want to ask can I go to stock 4.3 even that my Knox is 0x1?
Do I need to use TriangleAway? If so, how?
I understood that TriangleAway requires Samsung's official kernel but I have the kernel of CM now.
Anyway, what do I need to do?
Thanks in advance

Find your stock rom specifically the one that is your region. If your phone is for example like mine, i9500 XSE which is the first three letters of Indonesia then get that specific stock file.
It's probably around 1.4 gigs. It downloads very slow. After that open Odin flash the stock rom, and your good to go. I've bricked numerous times and all I've done was revert back like this. No problems.
I don't know if you can put the stock rom in your custom recovery and flash it there, I haven't tried it yet just run Odin in administrator mode, insert the stock rom, go into download mode on your phone by pressing - vol and power, then click start.
Wait.
Stock.

I may be wrong on this one but, if you use the auto CF root method I don't think there's a way to use the triangle method.
Therefore you're stuck on Knox. I could be wrong but I'm leaning on 70% being right..

I guess the binary counter is hidden somewhere. And for updates you can get OTA kies updates if you are havin stock recovery. One last thing Triangle away doesnt supports I9500.

[Q] Is Supersu The Best Way To Unroot When Flashing Firmware Isn't Possible?

I need to be able to unroot my phone so that I can take it in for repair.
Apparently my phone (SGH-I337 - AT&T) cannot have firmware flashed to it in order to unroot it (apparently because I allowed an update to be installed a while back when I shoudn't have).
There's a lot of people recommending SuperSU for unrooting but the recommended procedures vary (primarily when it comes to which files you should manually delete and when exactly you should delete them) and there's also no mention of whether or not all traces of rooting are removed.
I'm really worried that I'll bring the phone in and they'll find something which indicates that the phone was rooted.
Note: I don't have any custom recovery or firmware installed. The phone has only been rooted using towelroot. Nothing else.

Wow, thank you very much for that info.! I really appreciate it.
Every set of instructions I had come across told me to flash either the I337ATTAMDL firmware or the I337UCUAMDB firmware, and attempting to flash either of those resulted in a FAIL in Odin.
Before I proceed, can you confirm that flashing this NB1 firmware will not trip KNOX or affect a flash counter (requiring a reset with TriangleAway)?
Also, real quick while I have your attention, do you happen to know of any custom firmware/ROM (eg, a version of CyanogenMod or something similar) that I can flash to my phone? Or am I completely out of luck in that department?

The air command is active. When I undock pen, the air command menu appears. The pen was working fine before the lollipop upgrade, I think it was working on 4.4.2.
It was OTA which automatically downloaded and installed. How the OTA becomes corrupt about S pen? If I download another stock ROM, should it work?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I am begging you guys to not get that OTA route of upgrade, please. Download the ROM you want from sammobile.com and flash via Odin. Before doing all the do a FULL WIPE (not that darn factory reset thing under settings).
Then come back here and report, it is possible that there is a problem with the Wacom digitizer, or the S Pen itself has gone kaput, but you gotta try before confirming that.
Plz tell me if I download ROM via sammobile then if I use Odin, will it change my device status from official to any other one?

Yes, there are people who don't give a damn about warranty, my message was meant for them obviously. And there are places too where Samsung will still service your phone regardless of KNOX status.
Warranty is not the issue for me. I only want stock ROM and OTA updates enable over it. Up till now its enabled. As I said earlier that I upgraded lollipop via OTA and that might be the issue of S pen.
By using Odin I believe that I will receive OTAs as well if I downgrade my cell to 4.4.2.
But definitely as you said, I will get the stock lollipop from sammobile and will flush via Odin.
By the way what is the KNOX mean or abbreviation? Thanks

I have flushed lollipop stock version via Odin and no use. The issue persist as S Pen is not working.
Please let me know what to do next?
