[Question] Should I update or not? - XPERIA X10 General

2 days ago I updated to 2.0.2.a.0.24 and yesterday I rooted phone added dual touch restored data and usual stuff that are done after updating. Today, PC Companion said that there is new update available, does anyone know what update it is and can I add dualtouch again if I update?

No, don't update.. It'll update the same firmaware again I've tried

Ok thanks for tip

2.1.A.0.435 update
There is a thread in development on this subject, which I've been looking into by having the 2.1.A.0.435 update on my phone and found the Baseband version is the big difference.
New Mediascape & Timescape apps only offer the ability to zoom via a little icon, not by pinch even though Multitouch is enabled in the Kernel by default.
Ignore this update as the performance is terrible without JIT v2 installed, rooted or xRecovery - default Linpack result of 6.22 ... after removing some apps, xRecovery and JIT v2 installed, processes killed, got it back to more fair 33.214 as my highest result with some work.
The stock Global 2.0.2.A.0.24 is faster, more stable and kxhawkins & sempeternals are way faster.
X.Gbread Theme - with 2.0.2.A.0.24 - gives you 2.1update1 and is quite responsive.
Add JIT v2 to the 24 ROM / Multitouch mod by Bin4ry and you have a half decent X10, along the lines of what they should have sold off the shelf. The procedure for a decent 2.1 ROM that I'd advise is along these lines.
kX10 R1B010 - High Performance SE Replacement ROM by kxhawkins
Use SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse.zip to obtain root
Install xRecovery with HD fixes by zdzihu
Enable Multitouch as described by My_Immortal & Bin4ry
Set - /system/build.prop - dalvik-vm-heapsize=32mb - with Root Explorer
JIT Enabler V2 - Optimized for xRecovery by zdzihu
Install the SpareParts.apk from the CyanogenMod ROM
All your software and functionality will work and be optimized, only thing in addition is Astro file manager for it's process manager or Advanced Task Killer free to zap processes spawning like demons on your battery life.
Taken a miss of Froyo 2.2.1 and wish everything worked and runs. The FreeX10 looks great but I use my camcorder often..
TripNRaVeR 2.3.1 Gingerbread is my candidate for the next big upgrade. It's being put together quick - 48hours of release went to v1.3 and has the same issues with 2.2.1 Froyo / FreeX10 - but is Gingerbread and looks like the best ROM feature wise.
Rowboat is a possible solution to the Camcorder driver problem with Froyo & Gingerbread but it isn't finished. Z, Bin4ry and other people are working on this though, I expect soon enough it will work with our X10 devices and man.. until then stay away from the new baseband volatile 435.
My biggest gripe is the anpnymous usage information being sent back to SE, even if you instruct and set it off... privacy concerns are as bad as performance issues and 2.1.A.0.435 update has them both, with little else to offer!

It's pretty good at times. RAM usage is very high with eclair. Hopefully it can get optimized better by the official release.

Is the RAM now better? But great rom.
v1.7 is now available.
An Excellent Eclair for Acer Liquid
I've been using v1.6.7 for the past several days and it has performed almost flawlessly. Initial problems accessing all apps in the Market were sorted out.
A few apps aren't happy
- Handcent SMS presents duplicate incoming messages and something FC's on pop-up if the screen is locked. It eventually becomes unstable. I uninstalled it. It's become too fat anyway.
- Drocap2 creates an empty file sometimes when taking screenshots. Seems to work best making pngs with shake trigger.
- Earthquake app crashes on startup 100% of the time.
But otherwise, this is the best Eclair I've run on the Acer Liquid and better than anything on the HTC G1 /Magic....simply because the video drivers are there for the Liquid...and that means *everything* works.
At the moment I'd pick eViLD v1.7 over LCR v1.1.1....for both stability and the fact the voice searching / input works.
Well done!
You will se that liquid is fast like cheetah when Acer will release stable ROM, and our devs make it 3 times faster

[ROM] killer23d's Doc Froyo BUJP8 v9.0.1 / ADJP5 v8 Captivate Edition - 11/30/2010

Updated BUJP8 v9.0.1 / ADJP5 v8 (11/30/2010)
This is a Captivate port from Doc Froyo. It is so far one of the cleaner vanilla Android 2.2.
NOT PERFECT!! Please report bugs! From now on, my focus will be on the Bell's version as it is more suitable to our North American Galaxy S. I will simply be porting the ROM over and will not test them extensively unless it is significantly better. I will attend to bugs if found. The reason behind this decision is that i9000 ROMs are not neccessary better for us because they are designed for Europe/Asia market.

I can do that or you can do that for me too... It's not really that hard, as I said, I want something as plain as possible.
Can we see some screenshots?
Everything is working without problems?
No problems transitioning from 850-1900 bands?
No FC's in any apps or processes?
Can you apply his tweaks from the OG post? IE- disable the increasing ring or his themes?
What tweaks are included? Is this a barebone version?
I like docs so work too. Good luck.
He has the power button mods to get to download, recovery, and reboot. Lost my battery mod tho.

The Battery Mod here SHOULD work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818030
I can't test it though, YMMV. It's the Cognition-style battery.
And if it doesn't work, all you have to do is open that Battery_Mod.zip, take out the images inside the framework-res.apk, copy them into the framework-res.apk from the ROM, and replace it inside the battery mod .zip.
Well give out a try. I had the battery mod but lost it when I installed the power button mod.

Hmmm, try to give credit to the creator next time
I have this flashing addition, and the ROM is cooked for my convenience, I just post it so that those who like things bare can use it.
I have NOT tested this for every possible scenerios because I don't have 3G! If it doesn't crash or die on me, then I am OK. I am still new to this and learning.
This is quite barebone without TouchWiz. The only tweak installed is Voodoo, circle battery mod and HOSTS file. I try to keep this as simple as possible so you guys can add anything you like.
I may add Cog's style battery on the next release.
I have not get a chance to do screenshots, and will do it when I am updating the ROM when Doc_Kalpik has a new revision. It's not themed, so it's really stock Samsung like.
LOL.. Doc, I will put EVERYONE next time as I lost track.

DocRambone, I am sorry if I have offended you. What I mean by cooked is "put-together" with your work. I have already made it very clear in the post that it is from you work. I am going change my wording as of we speak.

JPM modem, and it is not modified.
I think it's a matter of asking FIRST, then porting it, and then giving proper credit.
Has anyone tried this yet? Is it fast? How is the Voodoo color fix? I've been super interested to see anyone post pictures of the difference the color fix makes!

Not sure why you are whining about this so much. Did he not state that he was using another rom and making modifications of it? Did you build your version from the ground up, or "steal" part of it from someone else then added your tweak? I am happy to see someone else getting into the cooking game and look forward to see further advancement on this.

Aight, well I just jumped on board, flashed this bad boy a little while ago and everything seems to be running pretty good. Haven't come across any issues what so ever, no fc's, etc. Of course I always flash back to stock, master clear and remove sim before flashing and pretty much never have any issues, but I can confirm this ROM is running very nicely. I wanted to try it for the voodoo color fix, but I dont have anything to compare it to until tomorrow when I get to work and put it beside my buddies captivate. Will report back then. Feel free to ask any questions if interested.
Color fix works on full brightness.

1. Froyobread : This Rom is a great choice for beginners, its stable and fast. it's core cm6. Android 2.2, a great upgrade if you are still using the 2.1 stock eclair this is the best upgrade,, many hail this as the best stable ROM there is, its full of features, it delivers smooth performance, and i have found it to be very stable. so if your new just use this, you will be satisfied
Link
Pros : Still considered the most stable Rom, Fast and Smooth Performance, Good app Performance, android 2.2 has greater app support, most features work without any problems, little or no bugs, one of the most famous rom so if you have any problem lot of people out there to help you
Cons: Android 2.2 has become old many people prefer Android 2.3 over it. Not as Smooth as gdx when it comes to scrooling, according to some people Wifi does not work(it worked for me though)
2.Hackdroid: A decent rom, flashy and stylish, sometimes laggy. but overall a very good room. great for starters, however many people stated this one to be a little unstable , but it really depends on what apps you run if you are looking for a good looking rom with visual features this one is a pretty good choice
Link
Pros: Very Customizable, Decent Performance, Stable if you stick to normal apps, Has more features than most Roms
Cons: A little Laggy, Sometimes Unstable, Many people have Reported bugs in this rom. Other Roms Offer Superior Performance
3.KuyaDroid: This one is an awesome rom, solid and stable, fast performance smooth menu and everything is decent. Its a good rom if your into gaming as it has built in Overclock, Undervolt, and gesture.(note these features can be manually added on other roms too). One more noticable thing about this rom is that it's core is cm7, and android version 2.3( a big update from the stock 2.1)
Link
Pros: Very fast app performance, Smooth Scrooling, Android 2.3, Wide Range of Users so you will easily find solutions if you face any problems, Overall Solid CM7 Rom.
Cons: Lacks Features that are available on Gingerdx, Some Reported Bugs, some apps force closes
4.GingerDX: This is update of the Famous Froyobread, So far its fast and stable although a few bugs have been reported but its one of the most stable and working cm7 , android 2.3 roms around. its definitely worth a try if you want a fast and smooth working rom. also it has some pretty good features more than most roms out there to exact. Many people state this is the best Cm7 rom out there
Link
Pros: One of the Smoothest CM7 Rom i have used, Full of features, Customizable, Most apps work without any problem, Regularly Updater, Wide range of users so you will easily find solutions if you do face any problem, Upgraded Camera
Cons: People claim it to be not as Stable as Froyobread, Some minor bugs still needs to be fixed, Some features and still needs to be more polished and stable, updates have recently slowed down
5.BehradGH: this one is a light and simple rom, not a bad choice for newbies but it does not have as much customizable features as the other roms, its a good rom for starters,, so if your looking for a simple rom and an upgrade from your stock rom you should try this one
Link
Pros: Light Rom, Good for Average Daily apps, Simple rom without complications. Simple Upgrade from the Stock Rom
Cons: Powerful Games Such As Nova, MC Sandstorm often Force closes, Some Reported Bugs, A little unstable while Performing Certain Operations
6.GingerCruzt: Just tested this Rom Recently , And boy was i surprised , good performance and good looks, which is something very hard to get in one rom. in some cases better than GDX, but not as stable when running apps, but for normal daily use this one beats most of the roms out there. also it has a very similar look to the stock android. so if your into stock looks, try this out. also its android 2.3 /Cm7.
Link
Pros: New and fresh, Decent Performance and Features, Not bad for daily use, most apps work without problem, Android 2.3. the new look is unique(gc 8.1 and after)
Cons: The Creator of the Rom is not really Co operative since he is not really active on XDA, Minor bugs, Is not updated as regularly as other Roms, Lacks advanced Features that available on other Cm7 Roms
7.Krauser-SROM: Recently Tested this Rom, this uses a lot of Froyobreads Features, Its fast and stable , not a bad choice if you want try something other than those famous roms, i found it to be really decent rom. Not bad for daily normal usage
Link
Pros: Simple Lightweight Rom, Most apps work, Stable and Smooth
Cons: Some FC on apps, Community of its users is not as big as Froyobread, Android 2.2, Doesn't have much features as some of the other roms
8.GingerXperia: Its new and its great! this rom is pretty good, and i actually find it to be even faster than gdx,Yes it lacks the features which gdx offers but if you can make do without those advanced features this is the rom for you, its also reported to be stable and smooth , its bugfree though but hopefully it will be fixed on future updates
Pros: Very fast, Simple Rom, Light weight, Good app performance, Stable Rom, the rom's creator used a lot of contents from other roms without taking permission from them
Cons: Lacks some Features, some bugs, New so the community is still small, got worse with recent updates
This is A Great Rom but creator not taking credit from other rom
9.Fd xperience: One of the better new roms, it has a stock look which is sure to attract many people, if you want to upgrade but do not want tolose your stock looks and yet have a stable upgraded rom this is the rom for you, its smooth and fast better than most roms out there, But it has some bugs and support issues, and i got some fc when playing games on it , other than that its very stable and fast
Link
Pros:Fast,Stock look, Stock apps, good app performance, Smooth scrooling,
Cons: The contacts app is very slow, The music player lacks features, Some 3d games FC, the new updates boasted looks but slowed down performance
10.Official CM7: Standard rom with lack of camera, fm, live wallpaper
Pros: Officialy supported by cyanogenmod
Cons: Buggy ,Camera (VGA), FM
11.Xgin: One better continued rom, it fast and stylish continued by rieken yuki build by shpit
Pros: Fast, Stylish, Walkman style
Cons: Heavy Rom

Apparently B866 is Huawei Honor 2.3 rom which Huawei made avaliable on their site a couple days ago.
This chinese rom seems based on that B866 rom, too bad Google Translator is not good enough to understand the user feedback on the chinese forum, don't even know if it has other languages besides chinese. Waiting for feedback in english
Translated text by google translate:
Huawei's official website yesterday upgraded version 4.0 of the glory of the business, but also updated the 2.3 to B866, transplanted to our U8800 with, well, it seems that Huawei's share of a source is indeed true, so the glory of the U8800 runs on far from transplantation than, in my opinion can not be called transplant. Also tomorrow, LW official upgrade, this is said to solve many problems such as loss of the desktop plug-in, SMS and so on, if you have time, will the upgrade version.
Description:
Based entirely on the glory of U8860 official 2.3ROM (B866), the maximum retention of official character, built out of some streamlining software, such as Sina microblogging, and so get rid of the CUST's can not be modified, added root privileges, RE manager. G Major enhancements added to the script. Enabled by default 80M of compcache (ZRAM), the default unlock FPS
Non-core overclocking, the camera really support HDR, upgrade to 2.3.6 retains the glory of the characteristics of the ROM program, the current task previews and other personal test run, WIFI available, because the glory of the framework based entirely on function does not work so hot (that is, You can not simulate the 3G wireless wifi signal available to other mobile phone use, care about this feature using the previous version of the proposal)
In addition, as Huawei's open opportunity to mount the 2.3 cust partition, and the burden is also linked to the starter theme, so completely off slow start, 40 seconds down individuals.
Brush Description:
Brush must be the official 2.3 (B522)

It's not an official one, Huawei never post news on third party forums.
brief translation of the Description section:
━━━━━━━━━━
it's based on offcial 2.3 ROM(B866) for Huawei Honor U8860, it keep the offcial characters as far as possible. stripped out some bundled applications like Sina blogging (a twitter liked application)
fixed the readonly CUST issue; added root priviledge; added RE manager(root explorer?).
added Senior G (genokolar)'s enhanced script
default: enabled 80M compcache(ZRAM); FPS is unlocked
use non-overclocking kernel; camera will really support HDR; system upgrade to 2.3.6; keeps featured appliclations in Honor ROM; task preview; etc...
Known issues:
according my personal test, WIFI is working, but WIFI AP is not working because it totally based on Honor framework.
because it will mount /CUST partition in this ROM and the launcher bundled a theme(?), so the power off/on speed is slow, my test result is about 40 seconds.

ok. we will be wait your feedback

So, we have:
- Not working Wifi AP (If I try to enable it, I get Error message and if I try to enable Wifi after the phone reboots)
- No GAPPS
---> I've installed Cyanogem GAPPS and it works without problems (so far)
- The sound recorder have a lot of background noise, but I think that also happens in the 2.3.5
- Working all sensors
- Working Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G (I don't have data plan so I didn't test it correctly)
- The sound while calling it's a little better than the official 2.3.5 (28/12/11)
- USB connection to the PC is also working
- Sound works like 2.3.5
- It cames with TitaniumBackup 4.0, Root Explorer (I think). Both apps are in chinese!
- It have a pretty cool task manager
- The launcher is the same of 2.3.5
For what I've tested it could be a good rom to have, but there are no big differences to the 2.3.5.
You could see some screenshots of the rom attached
So is needed to install first the 2.3 of huwei and only after this one or I can go directly from my miui with the old kernel?

I don't have those probems in this ROM neither in te 2.3.5.
This is one port of the Huawei Honor (u8860) (Portuguese article)
Try the ROM and tell us your feedback.
Maybe the drivers included in this ROM solve some issues.
I'll install it once again to see if the missing calls issue is present.
ROM Info:
This port is based in the B866 Stock ROM of Hauwei Honor (u8860)
- It was realesed by Hauwei on the December 30th of 2011.
- The language should be English but as the port was made for a Chinese developer it have the Chinese language as the first one, but all the other languages are present.

DO NOT ISNSTALL THE ROM OF THE LINK ABOVE, IT'S ONLY FOR INFO!!! THAT ROM IS TO U8860 NOT TO U8800.
About the port:
- The ROM is based entirelly in the B866 ROM of the u8860.
- Some stuff (garbage apps) of the original ROM were removed.
- Root added.
- The FPS are unlocked.
- Non overclocking kernel.
- The camera supports HDR
- Pretty cool task manager, with previews of the running programs.
Not Working:
- The only problem is the Wifi AP, but I don't use it, so it isn't a problem for me at all.
You can install it using CWM (I'm using the v.5.0.2.7).
- Just clear cache, factory reset.
- Go to advanced, clear Dalvik cache.
- Reboot recovery (sometimes the SD card doen´t mount properly and doing the reboot recovery the issue is solved)
- Install zip from SD Card.
- Install the GAPS if you want them and reboot.

More feedback about it:
- Since yesterday I didn't have any reboot or FC.
- I've ran Antutu Benchmark and I got better results than the 2.3.5 stock rom. My results with 2.3.5 with the stock kernel are more or less 2400 and with this one I got 2643.
- I can play 3D games like Ninja Fruit, GT Racing better than with the 2.3.5.
- No missing calls issue of the 2.3.5
Nice and smooth! Cool!

When you say it could brick the phone, is there any reason this particular operation is more dangerous than flashing any custom rom on any device or are you just giving a standard warning. This port could also be used as a base for CM10? I
Another Great Rom Thanks!
Seems (so far) to be fully usable - i've used RC Roms more buggy then this!
good job...
Definately usable as a 'everyday rom' great work on this.

No NFC support?
Any Chance of adding BLN to the kernel?

Why the heck would you want BLN on a device that has a real notification LED???

Everything works for the most part but I too have requests.
NFC to work (Will it be possible to hack the software for the Find 5 to support google wallet?)
Video playback fix
Sheer optimization

GW depends on if Oppo included a secure element with Google's keys or not.
LOTS of manufacturers include this even if their device isn't supported by GW, however occasionally devices show up without an SE. (Last ones I saw were Samsung I9100P and I777.)
Quite simple because the led is tiny. BLN looks good and works well, That was just a request.
However since the phone supports it i would love NFC on this ROM
