Well, if it is the Vibe4g, i'll be damn well be pissed #NeverAgain at Samsung.
Then really, this Vibrant we have are really "Outdated" (TMo did say it is, and not 'selling' this phone because of the upcoming 4g Galaxy S)

Now its an i9000 with 4g

I'm not too worried, I went on my desktop from a single to duo core, then a quad, and now a 8cpu they are coming out toward the end of the year a 16 core......
The point is they will always keep improving and dole out the upgrades bit by bit to max their profit......... that's the capitalist way...... and just think-- We taught them how to do this......
I ll get a duo core when it comes out, but until then, I love the vibrant. It is a great phone

Well said!
When vibrant came out last year, I bought it not because the rumored 2.2 coming-soon update, but for that the SAMOLED screen is FABULOUS, just as any visual animal would do. So when the next Galaxy phone comes out with dual core and SAMOLED+? Hey, I'll be in the line.
I love the vibrant. With KA6 updated through Kies Mini and voodoo lag-fix, I'm a happy man.

Can't wait to see how the dual core phones chew up the battery.

These new dual cores look sweet, but I'm going to wait until the next gen that comes with Honeycomb.
We know that this current crop of dual core phones are going to release with an OS that doesn't even properly support dual core CPUs. So basically a ton of first adopters are going to buy these phones and fine they're only marginally better performers (if at all) than the current single core phones.
And then you're going to read the incessant whining on XDA about "how could they release a phone without an OS that properly supports its greatest hardware advantage," and then when 3.0 does drop, it's going to be weeks, if not months, of whining and hairpulling for the update or port.
Not me. I'm going to wait for a dual core that ships with 3.0, probably later this year. That way I won't end up buying another phone that is gimped stock.
I guarantee, if you buy one of these first gen dual cores, you will be disappointed and suffer anguish as you keep hitting F5 for any news about a Honeycomb update.

100% agree. Not going to buy one tell the next sets of Dual cores come out. with at least HC.

I can't wait for 8-core 128 bit cells phones so I can do scientific computing while I'm waiting in line for coffee! Just kidding, but the point I'm trying to make is to question what advantage it would serve to dump a Vibrant--which has such a nice screen and gpu--just to have a faster cpu. What do you all think?

Have anyone ever think about an Overclock dual core on a phone. My 1 ghz vibrant is now OCing at 1.4ghz and stable and its fast as ever with no lagfix. Just imagine a 1.4 ghz dual core.

I don't think it will come out with a faster cpu about 1 gig just dual which in sense will be faster. It will be more for multi tasking I don't see myself using 10 or 20 apps at once to make use of it.

But the point is why? It is fun to see how far you can push it. But for day to day use, what purpose does it serve overclocking a cpu without increased cooling?

Hopefully Sprint will get a version. I know it's gsm, but I hold out hope for a dual core snapdragon.
I still think the Galaxy phones with the HummingBird and GPU will own for quite a while. Technically your hero is dual Core already. Just one core is really tiny and slow (modem core).
By the time that comes out, something better will be on the horizon like it is right now. Phone technology is advancing fast. I'm going for the galaxy.

I assume it could probably be done if the kernel does anything with it...
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm 33 years old. My first computer was an Tandy 1000. My next computer was a Pentium 166. I remember when processors were coming out every month or so, edging the cap up just a little bit higher. I remember them having a starting price worth more than the car I owned at the time.
So pick a phone, buy it and be happy with it for a year. If you're always waiting for the next best thing, you'll never buy anything. If you always get pissy when you buy something and something better comes out, just stop buying.

im actually thinking about giving the evo a second chance now that 2.2. is out for it. i now have an extended battery for it too. i won't touch a samsung phone.
Why you would consider the Samsung over the evo. The battery life is not much greater on the galaxy S series. Got a few co workers with both version (vibrant, captivate). We compare and contrast every day. They are all great phones but would not swap none 4 the other. Plus the evo got that 4g along with a front facing cam only if u were thinking of the epic 4g.

I can't imagine needing a dual-core CPU phone, how much quicker than a modded N1 or Evo can you really get, not saying I wont buy one when they are out but still..
The Sprint Galaxy S has a section on XDA... I might go for that. I'm not picky about what brand name the phone is as long as I can crack smack hack and whack.
I'm 25 and my first computer was a commador 64. I didn't get another until Pentium 4 was out. That's a big jump. Yup always something a little better around the corner.
I can't wait till I can run Wine and play my game on my phone.
As far as saying you don't need faster than the evo or n1, it depends on what you are trying to run. Try putting windows 7 on that old comadore. What's the famous quote by bill gates saying computers would never need more than a few megs of ram?
And I wouldn't want to get a Samsung either but I do like the proc/gpu and physical keyboard

I'm up for upgrade in December from my Hero, but hopefully this rumored HTC "Sabor" is coming out around that time..
Supposedly it's the "Evo 2" and sounds VERY nice.
Link missing, since I can't post it... Recap below:
5. HTC SABOR- HOLY CRAP. Do you remember me talking about the HTC Scorpion, a rumored 1.5 ghz device? Well Sprint gave that one up. Sad? NOOOOO! Instead they are getting the HTC Sabor (code name ofcourse) that is a 2ghz (or possible dual core depending on who you talk to) device to compete with the 2ghz moto device coming to Verizon wireless late this year!!!! THANKYOU SPRINT?! This change was recently made as this phone will be the successor of the Evo and will hit shelves either Q4 2010 or Q1 2011. This is all dependent on the moto release date. Be looking for an over 1000 res screen (possibly that 1270 res Google is allowing), android 3.0 (gingerbread), 2 cams one being a 10 mp, 1080p recording,& kickstand =]. This device will essentially be the Evo 2, and is rumored to be the gingerbread flagship device. Naturally WiMAX is expected. More on this one hopefully coming soon.

No thanks. I'll pass on a pantech product.
Is computer hardware or phone tech moving faster
Im not sure what's worse, pantech or kyocera. I think pantech phones would be alright if the UI was better.
Faster doesn't always = better.
Pantech & TFT kinda detracted from the wow factor too.
I oddly like the name "Vega Racer". Why? I'm scared to ask myself.
they look like crappy iphones...IMO..
You need to stop looking at it that way and be happy by how fast the market is going. Would you prefer it if we're still sitting on 500MHz processors like in 2009?

I said this a couple of weeks ago. By the time the 3D comes out there will be 3 or 4 more phones with better specs set to drop a couple weeks/months later. Look at the Samsung phone that just leaked on Tmobile.. the Hercules.

Your point was by the time the 3d is out, there will be faster devices out. You then referenced the Hercules, which will most likely have near same performance of the 3d, but probably borked support from Samsung.

Correct me if I'm wrong, might be same family but isn't the 3d at 1.2 dual core?
And I totally get your point, I feel outdated just three months later. Same reason I'm holding off on a tablet...ipad is a perfect example, couple months after spending 600 or so my friend feels like an idiot just a few months later he's considering another 600 just cuz of the stupid camera...

Not sure this is exactly a new thing, across the board as a whole. Always something better around the corner. And what's there to be bothered about something being better than something you don't even own yet ... ? Whether or not it is 'entirely' better or 'marginally' better.

Yup the evo 3d is undervolted to 1.2 ghz for minimum battery drain but will be overclocked soon enough, just look at the g2 overclock threads to see the potential qualcomm chips have.
After a year with my evo, I believe I can easily wait until next year to upgrade since every phone coming out has specs bumps and nothing else . Just because a better spec laptop comes out doesn't mean to run out and get it.
It will be hard but I'm sure ill hold off on the evo 3d and get the next gen evo next july.
What's the point of this thread? The EVO3D has a better screen, higher resolution, and although the clock speed is 1.2 gigahertz, it will easily be able to overclock significantly higher.
The G2, as someone else mentioned, has been overclocked up to 2 gigahertz. A G2, which has an older chipset and has a stock speed of merely 800 MHz.

I wont, by the time Android gets optimized for dual core phones and release, pretty much anyone left with their Epics or Evos will be eligible for upgrade. .
Its not that big of a deal for me, I still love my phone and it does what I want it to do. I'm gonna be getting a tablet next week anyway, so that'll have my dual core if I need it for certain games, etc.

No. I seriously cannot put myself in the place of people who become unhappy with advanced technology so fast. If you have the money and motivation to constantly get the newest thing, great, more power to you. But each subsequent phone I get is better than the one before and the Epic is so good it's even made me want a new notebook computer less than I did because it does so many things so well. And its software is still improving.

Not really. The only thing that betters the epic are DUAL core phones (not duel). Android is not yet optimized for DUAL core phones and there are not a lot of apps optimized for DUAL cores yet so the only advantage of saying you have a DUAL core phone is having the newest thing. You're forgetting the other hundred or so phones under the epic that carriers offer for free to $50.
The epic is no where near being an "old geezer".

The SPHD700 was rumored two have come with dueling cores (as in too), but fortunately the 1.0GHz core rained supreme in a rather Epic battle over the 800MHz core leaving our phone the fastest of the sprint lineup.
I hope my EVO 3D has DUAL cores instead of DUELING cores.....I'd hate to only be stuck with one in operation. Besides, how could you explain that to people??
...."I had dual cores initially, but they started to duel it out, and now I only have one. I wish they would get on the ball and make the cores less aggressive. I would like to be able to have both live in harmony! Seriously, what good does it do someone to have duel cores, all they do is fight. At times I have great performance, while at others my phone doesn't respond at all. It's as if the cores are so entwined in their duel that they can't do anything else but duel! If core 1 had not dueled core 2 to death, my phone would be virtually unusable today"...
It's all in good fun. It's hard not to fugg w/ the OP when his posting was all but intentional. Besides, I doubt he'll make the same mistake again, and for that I give myself credit. You know, for doing for him what every english teacher since the 5th grade has failed to do; help him understand that a duel is a fight, and a dual is a pair :-D

I didn't know the 1.0 GHz core caused supreme rain...since we are in the mood for flaming people about spelling, that would be reigned supreme. Sorry, just couldn't help it. ;-)

The smart little monkey falls into his own trap.

Can't decide...

Read countless reviews and still can't decide.
Two things putting me off. The lack of ICS and Samsung take forever to get updates out (example my old mans galaxy s2 is still on 2.3.4 while my brothers Liquid Metal is on 2.3.6) Also the fact that quad core phones will be out next year.
My being picky? How are you guys gettin on with you' re notes?
Seeing as there is one phone in existence sold with ics on it, that is kind of a tough stance to take. Also this has nearly the fastest currently available processor, why do you think you need a quad core?
I guess you could wait till they stop making new phones, that way there is nothing better just around the corner. I heard that will be next year, so I would wait.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is just get a new phone every year. until the next best thing, the note is it.

You could learn how to root & install custom ROMs, so you never have to wait for the Samsung's updates.
If you could wait for a Quad core phone then wait for it. If you can't, then the Note should do you well.

I know how to root so if ICS was ported I could do it myself. I'm just being picky and making up excuses to not buy the damn thing I think.. I do want it but the Galaxy Nexus went back cause I couldn't stand the volume bug and the crappy build. Just looking for opinions really to see if this device is really worth it and if the size is a problem. Trust XDA users opinions over Engadget and other tech sites.

Ummm how to put this in simple words...
Once you start using the Note, all other phones will seem like small, slow pieces of garbage.

So true. My friend bought Sprint's version of the SGS2 & she can barely go back to her SGS2 after using my Note for many hours.
So true...
Just got it since last week, but I don't think I'm ever going back to smaller... Only if there won't be any of theselovely 5" phones

samsung arent too bad with updates, it could just be your device is locked to a region or carrier that doesnt update regularly.
my note was locked to the PLS region. it took 1-2 weeks longer than the other regions to get 2.3.6, but even so, its quite a quick update considering its a carrier branded device thats only been out for a month or so.
quad core phones have their strengths and weaknesses. the only advantage is in multitasking. you wont be able to use the raw power for a single app though aside from nvidia tegra 3 games. most PC apps are only now beginning to support multicore, i'd say android will take a fair while as well. when devs make apps, they make them so they will run on a wide variety of devices to maximise earnings. most people using android devices are still using single cores, devs will focus on maximising compatibility and improving performance on single cores first, so on a quad core phone, you may have one or two active cores with the other two doing pretty much nothing.
by the time the software catches up, you'd be stuck with a 40nm tegra3 that would burn your hands when a newer 28nm or 20nm cpu will be available and would be much faster and run much cooler.
i'd say just get a note now, enjoy the snappy performance of the apps samsung have optimised for dual core and the gpu and have fun knowing that you'll be using all you paid for in the phone rather than only getting half your money's worth with a quad.
As I know wildfires will not come out next year. There are coming some bastards 2x2 cores 2 at 1.5-1.8 and 2 low MHz cores so the battery live is increased when you don't need high usage of the cores. So don't think there will be much difference from the 2cores that are in the market atm. Maybe a better you on them will do the trick as now ics will provide hw acceleration.
Just my thoughts about that.

[Q]Cut my losses?

I just sent in my Atrix back to motorola for a warantee claim due to the sporadic WiFi problems it's been having. I'd had the phone for a little under a year before this problem reoccurred, and the soonest I can upgrade is christmas day this year. Should I sell off this newly refurbished atrix and get a different phone for no contract price, or should I gamble and hope that this refurbished one will last me until Christmas?
Wait for the quad core phones to come out. That's what I am waiting for. My Atrix is perfectly fine till those come out. Any other dual core phone isn't much of an upgrade from an atrix in my opinion.

Yeah wait for tegra 3.

Will ICS take advantage of four cores? If not, then I really don't understand what the advantage would be; you'd essentially be paying more money for nothing more than bragging rights. Is there something I'm missing? (Probably. )

There are no applications that take advantage of even two cores. Like 95% of the applications can't even take advantage of one core, let alone four.

That's what I thought, even though I do try to keep abreast of Android developments. So, basically, getting a phone with a quad core CPU would basically be the equivalent of participating in a "my johnson is bigger than yours" contest.
ICS is optimized for multiple cores. Even if individual apps are not optimized, multiple cores will still be an advantage. Don't forget that apps can be multithreaded and that system tasks also run alongside apps and multicore processors offer an advantage.

Just lay 'em out and measure boys
The latest Dual Core Snap Dragon processor seems to outperform the Tegra 3 in most cases. Plus since the LTE chip is integrated with the CPU the battery performance is better as well.
Since I usually wait two years between upgrades, I am not due until February, so hopefully there will be some even better choices by then.
Well, I decided to send in my atrix, and I've just copped an OG Nexus one. I've always wanted to have one, and I'll get about $150 in the difference in price as profit after I sell this newly remanufactured atrix.
