how can I recover my HTC my touch 4G - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I made a mistake in loading a android froyo build to my HTC my touch 4g.
And now, my htc my touch 4g won't boot up. It stucks in teh 'My Thocuh HD' screen.
Can you please tell me how can I recover my phone?
Either load the original factory software?
or
Load cyanogenmod?
Thank you.

How did you load it? Standard procedure is to make a backup first... So go back into recovery and restore it.
Tell us more about what you did? What hboot and recovery do you have?
Sent from my CM7 HTC Glacier

After I build a ginger bread build, i did
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot
And then the phone now hangs in flash screen.
Can you please tell me how can I recover from it now?

Since you can get into the HBoot, if it were me i'd load the PD15IMG and start all over.

exactly what i was going to suggest.

I assume you mean pd15img from here:
ttp://filespart.com/p/pd15img-mytouch-4g.html
What do you mean i can get to 'HBoot'? I now do a 'adb devices', it does not show my touch 4g anymore.
Thank you for all the help.

This is the PD15IMG.img
download it and store it to the root of the SD card. When you go to turn the phone on hold the power button and the volume down button. IT will pick up that image and ask if you want to restore the phone according to the PD15IMG.

Thanks. I download PD15IMG.zip and copy it to the root of the SD card. But when i boot up the phone under HBoot. It said 'no image PD15IMG.zip is found'

So, what happens when it fails? And says " - Fail -PU" Partition update fail

1) do not flash the PD15IMG from the recovery image.
2) if you have a wrong PD15IMG then you need to re-download and check the MD5 again.

I am not trying to flash the pd15img from restore. Sorry thats separate. I made a nandroid backup before i wiped the phone, and I get an md5 error on that. And the phone wont let my flash any other roms either.
Now I dont know what to do.
Where can I find an alternate pd15.img. Sorry I am lost and I just dont know what to do.
***edit, nevermind. I figured it out. Thanks

I'm also getting fail-pu but only on the first item in the list bootloader. When using adb and trying to read the mmcblk I get can't read mbr. So I'm thinking the mbr is corrupted. If that is the only issue keeping pd15img.zip from updating is it possible to fix the mbr? or does having one fail-pu in that list mean a fried eMMC? I'm sure if there is a fix for the mbr my MT4G could be salvaged without replacing the motherboard. My issue started with a bunch of failed auto-updates. The last thing it tried to update was SKYPE,thats when I notice more failed updates. I rebooted and all seemed fine. The next day I went grocery shopping and in front of the Frootloops section, my calculator started crashing. FDW loader stopped responding. I received a sms message and fdw crashed again. So I rebooted and ironically it went into bootloops as I reached for the fruitloops. Pulled the battery and rebooted into hboot then into clockworkmod recovery .I had cyanogenmod 7 7.01, did not try to update to the newest one,but noticed that clockworkmod recovery did somehow auto update into 5.0.2.0 Thats where my issue must have come from. I noticed the dreaded E:can't mount /cache/ so I rebooted again in the middle of a supermarket and noticed pd15diag.zip was not found in hboot. Went home and tried everything I could find with Google. While using ADB (can't remember the exact commands) I noticed the MBR was unabled to be read. which is why I get the fail-pu in the bootloader. If other people are getting this and not fail-pu on everything in the list, there might (a really slim chance) of recovery from this. Is there another way to determine that the eMMC chip is fried?
here is the output I get when updating PD15IMG.zip this is on hboot-0.85.2007 Glacier PVT ENG S-OFF

Knackered my gf's magic - need some help!

Hi all,
I've been trying to install the amon RA recovery rom on mg gf's magic, but I'm stuck in a loop.
I've got a non perfect SPL loaded which boots into cupcake
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-3.22.20.17
However when I try to run fastboot boot recovery.img it restarts and gets stuck on the splash screen.
I've re-made the sd card to be a gold card and I've still got the issue.
I've also tried running fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and I get Infosignature checking... FAILED )remote : signature verify fail).
Can anyone help me sort this?
Many thanks
will
You're using a non-engineering SPL, so all fastboot commands will fail. 1.33.2005 has fastboot enabled and you should be able to flash it from your currect state, however I was on .26i radio when I flashed it so I don't know for certain.
EDIT: Since you're on cupcake you should be able to use flashrec to flash the recovery image, so not engineering SPL required!
Hi Adrian,
thanks so much for replying.
In the meantime I've tried another sappimg and this has taken me to 1.33.2010 which has let me fastboot flash recovery... but when I try to boot into recovery (hold home and restart) all i get is the htc magic spash screen
The other issue is that the rom ive now got is lacking the google tools and therefore market, so i cant get flashrec
Any thoughts?
thx
No problem about missing the market, do "adb install *Drag FlashRec APK here*", that will get it installed.
How long did you hold down home+power to get to recovery? The first time I did it after loading up Amon Ra's 1.7.0 it took me holding them for around 1.5-2 minutes before it finally booted in.
Hiya,
I waited about 5 mins or so
I've now got flashrec installed... looking for what to do next?
Here. Start at step 12 assuming you've already got a recovery image.
Hmm, just tried that and it flashes in an instant (too quick tbh!), so im wondering if this is because its already got the recovery on it from when i did it via fastboot
After restarting and holding home im still getting just the splash screen
Is there a way to view what is on the /recovery/ partition, or is there a reason its not wanting to boot into it?
thx
Which recovery image are you using?

I did tell him how to get one ;-P
Hopefully it won't come to that. I think he's loading the wrong recovery image.
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
Try re-downloading the recovery image from here and try flashing again. If it doesn't work I think your going to have to try going Adrian's route.
Better yet, you can get it from step 5 here for a quicker download.
Also, when you were in FlashRec running the "/sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img" command did you change recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img to match the filename of your recovery image?
I've just managed to update the recovery, but strangely this is using the 32A recovery.. and not 32B.. but I've got a vodafone Magic
So I can now get into recovery and have followed the steps or dangerSPL, followed by cyanogen mod + gapps, but not i cant get it to fully start up and im stuck on splash screen
V confused now.. just checked in hboot and its still showing sapphire pvt 32b eng s-off H
Hboot 1.76.2007
radio 3.22.20.17
looks like the gf's not having a mobile tomorow.. oh dear im in trouble!
any ideas again much appreciated!
thx
Can you run any fastboot commands?
Yes I can now run fastboot commands and use the recovery tool
thx
Hi all,
hope to get some more help, sorry!!
After looking more into this it seems that one of the previous images i put on the 32b phone was a 32a radio... hence the issue with putting on the recovery image for the 32b not working.
So... i downloaded myTouch-radio-2_22_23_02.zip and using the recovery did an update from zip.. now however the phone boots and all i get is a picture of a box with an arrow pointing to an android robot (see attached!)
At this rate its looking like i need to buy a new phone!
cheers all

[help needed]HTC magic PVT 32A: wrong radio (3.22.XX) and SPL (1.76.0008)

The whole story is a little bit long.
I still can access to fastboot. On the RUU screen, I can read the following information:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.76.0008(SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Nov 3 2009, 15:56:29
Here is how it happened. I flashed the radio to 3.22 and run a wrong RUU file (RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_3.05.401.1_test_signed_NoDriver.exe). The problem comes: after unsuccessfully flash the RUU file (as the radio in the RUU is 6.35), the security is turned ON (S-ON). Those RUU files with radio 3.22.XX have different version of SPL from 1.76.XXX. I cannot find a RUU file with SPL 1.76.008 and radio 3.22.XX. Therefore, I cannot use any RUU file to change the situation (I got a goldcard).
The security is turned on and I cannot change the radio, SPL or recovery in fastboot (cannot pass the infoSignature checking).
Now I still can access to fastboot (such as fastboot devices).
I don't know why I cannot use fastboot to boot a recovery (fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img). I was able to send the recovery img to the device. But the booting of recovery takes for ever.
I can only enter fastboot mode now using any combination of buttons.
Please give your comment and help to solve this.
Thank you very much!

Many of this was answered, search the forum.
Here is the thing you have wrong spl radio combination, you have perfected spl. You can do a fastboot boot xxxxxx.img and enter recovery. Then you must flash eng spl 1.33.2010.And you will be unbricked
Thank you for the reply.
I tried fastboot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img. But after the sending of the image is over, it will stay in booting for ever. I don't understand why I cannot boot the recovery.

Hmm did you try the sappimg.nbh to restore your magic???
Updated: I tried to use sappimg.nbh in fastboot mode. However, it responses that the main version is older. This is because I have run the RUU (RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_3.05.401.1_test_signed_No Driver.exe), whose main version is 3.05 while the sappimg.nbh is older than this number.
Now I can access fastboot and the hboot, but not the recovery. Of course, I cannot boot the android OS either. Is there a method to root just in the fastboot mode? I have the security turned on (S-ON)?
Anyone got suggestion? Thanks!
Can anyone help on this? really get frustrated

What a bad news =( I had sent this phone to repair, but all of their experts cannot fix as well.
That's lame.... did you try the unroot process?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You could try unbricking by flashing the Rogers or Brazilian Android 2.1 RUU. The main version is newer and a goldcard should make it work.
Please make sure your battery is full and that you have a PROPER GOLDCARD!!! Otherwise this will most likely fail.
I've uploaded the sappimg to http://www.multiupload.com/WO0S35S53S
Rename it to sappimg.zip, copy it to the root of your SD card and boot into fastboot (vol-down and power). That SHOULD fix your phone. Then again, it could also brick it even worse, but what do you have left to lose?
After loaded sappimg, it checking sappimg, then went back to HBOOT. Nothing happened. I've tried to recreate my gold card, no luck with it =(

[Q] Phone will not boot up

I hate to do this but I this is my last resort to getting my phone back working. I currently can not get pass splash screen. Phone was already rooted running cm7 and I wanted to go back to one of my old nandroid so I flashed CW 2.5.1.2. It was working fine but was running slow so I did a data format and wipe cache and ever since then it will not boot up. I am getting a E:Cant' mount CACHE:recovery/command and log message when recovery loads up.
I can get into fastboot and recovery fine but I cant seem to flash any of my nandroids anymore. I have about 5 of them and none work. I can't flash any roms either. It seems as if my root may be gone because when Im in adb shell and run su it does not give me root and I cannot mount any systems in recovery. I tried everything from trying to flash to stock through hboot and even flashing new recovery in fastboot but that did not work since I do not have ENG HBOOT. Tried rerooting and unrooting it again but I always have to go into that /data/local but I am never able to gain access. I do still have S-OFF but that seems to be about it. Oh yeah and I cant even do a wipe data/factory reset. Says E:format_root device: can't find mmc partition.
So if someone knows anything else I could try to get this resolve that would be cool.
Ok lets start don't panic all is not lost yet you can still have root with S-OFF and have access fastboot and recovery. I am not sure why you reverted back to older CWMR2.5.1.2 as if you had CWMR3.0.0.6 you could have done it without fastboot but makes no diff now.
First go try "fastboot erase system -w" and then boot in to recovery and do full factory wipe and then flash as you normally would do.

I reverted back to that one thinking that it would enable me to flash a none cm7 rom.

Did you try the PD15IMG.zip from bootloader? Download it make sure its not corrupted that is why I provided you with md5 hash to verify. Then put the file in root of your sdcard and then boot in to bootloader, it will scan it and follow the instruction to revert back to original.

Hmmm never seen or heard of that I am taking fail pu means failed partition update. What does your HBOOT ver say on the screen? I am not sure what happened but seems like it soft-brick ATM still not sure how you lost root. Hopefully someone who has little more knowledge can shed some light.

Following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
I'm having trouble on the final downgrading step. I've followed all other instructions and everything is working great until I try to reboot into the bootloader and downgrade. When I get into the bootloader and press the power button it takes me to the HBOOT screen and freezes. I tried doing the fastboot method also and it transfers the zip, but then is stuck at the "writing 'zip'..."
md5 matches for the PD15IMG.zip
Any ideas?
Also on the HBOOT screen the top 2 line say:
"GLACIER PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.89.0006"
No ideas on this? I also tried it over again using Ubuntu and no luck
i'm having trouble changing the version number =/. sorry to thread jack
S-OFF means your phone was already rooted, and you don't need to do anything. Look in Developers section, find a thread for re-rooting S-OFF device, it contains PD15IMG with only recovery in it. Flash it.
I'm not sure which thread the PD15IMG with recovery is in. Do you know the title or have a link to it?
Also, why would flashing the PD15IMG w/ recovery not make HBOOT freeze like flashing a completely stock PD15IMG does? If it is actually S-OFF shouldn't it accept the stock 2.2.1 PD15IMG anyways?
EDIT: nevermind, I'm guessing I should be using the PD15IMG from this thread?

I tried using one of those and HBOOT still freezes as soon as I get to it
Yes, that's the one.
I don't know why you get the freezing - it shouldn't be freezing anyway, stock or not.

Yeah, I'm at a loss as to what to do now. Everything requires using hboot to flash and that's not working
Use another SD card.
Format it in Windows.
Put recovery PD15IMG.ZIP on it.
Attempt flashing in bootloader.
If it doesn't work:
Extract recovery.img from the PD15IMG.ZIP that you downloaded.
Set up fastboot.
Change your bootloader to fastboot mode (select FASTBOOT with power button).
Verify that you see your phone by running "fastboot devices" from command prompt.
Flash recovery by executing "fastboot flash recovery your_extracted_recovery_image.img".
Tried using another SD card and I finally got it working. I can't believe I didn't think to try that lol. Thank you so much.

Whoa, man, slow down! Probably shouldn't be messing with these things if you don't know what you're doing, you're gonna brick your phone. Bootloader doesn't go in the boot partition, it goes in the bootloader partition. Radio goes in the radio partition. You don't flash any of these things with recovery anyway, you flash them with fastboot. Look at my guide:

Thanks I got it all figured out via fastboot but now I get an error at startup saying there is an internal error with my device please contact manufacturer for details

It's impossible to help you without all of the details.
Thanks for the help I got it all figured out I flashed the 29 vendor over 89D that's when I got internal error. I then I upgraded bootloader and radio via fastboot then flashed pure nexus all is running good now
