[HELP] Cannot get SD Android running on my HD2 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

HD2 T9193 Australia
512Kb Flash Memory
SPL-2.08.HSPL CotullaHSPL
ROM Energy Leo 29007 Sense 2.5 Jan 24
Radio 2.15.50.14
Over last few days, have download several SD builds of Android.
I Copy the android folder to root of SD card
I start the phone in Windows Mobile
I run CLRCAD
I run HARET
I get the grey window about starting/booting (cant remember exact, head spinning)
then get black screen with small writing
then get HTC splash screen and thats it.
each build I have tried, have left at boot screen from 60 to 90 minutes.
Now, 6 months ago with earlier version of Energy ROM, and different radio, I could load earlier version of SD Android.
Today I had a friend around, with an older radio and the same earlier version of energy rom that I used to have, and still no go on his.
What is happening (or not).
Do I need to have an EXT2/2/4 partition on my SD Card?
Something more simple??
Ideally, I wanted to try a Desire HD Sense ROM.
Have tried
CopesHD2GingCyan7Release1
Core_Droid_HD_V0.4_Release_Version
mattcleofroyo1.8
MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.6_MDJ_S78.0
NexusHD2-FRG83D_V1.8_(Froyo 2.2.1)

Have you tried putting a blank data.img file on the sd card before the boot?
If not try that, they are usually available from the first post in the builds thread.
A few I tried wouldn't boot the first time unless I put that file in there.
I'm guessing it won't help, because some (if not all) of those builds can create a blank one for you, but it won't hurt to try.
This is the one from MDJ's 4.6 build you have tried. The link is from his thread. Extract the file using 7zip and stick it in the android folder.

There's no need for partitioning or any kind of fancy stuff for running a simple WinMo6.5/Android dualboot. I suppose formatting your SD card (do it in WinMo, seems to be more effective) should solve your problems.
@MattOG: The data.img helps shortening the first boot time, I've never heard it actually fixes problems?

You do have enough free space on your card for it to create the data.img right??

Hope so, 8gig card with just the android folder

ok thats not it then........
The only thing I can think to suggest is to try a different WM ROM... see if you can find the energy rom you used before from the energy archives....

It's my thought process. Did I offend your eyes?

Tried that with the mate's HD2, as it has the same, older energy rom that I used before

[Q] HD2 freezes indefinately during first boot of Android....HELP!!!!

hi there.....First of all let me tell you that I have read all the forums on this site and on htcpedia.com to solve my problem but no success. So i had no other choice other than to ask in the forum.
Problem is when I boot my hd2 for the first time after copying "Android" folder in to my sd card(32 gb), It would display 5-6 lines in the top left corner ending with the line "Jumping to the Kernel (custom)...." and freezes there even after i wake up from 8 hours long sleep. Then I have to restart it by removing the battery.
There is a one strange thing. When I copy 'Android' folder in the root of sd card (sd card\Android\..) no data image file would be created in it after the end of the situation described in second paragraph. But when I copy all file from 'Android' folder to the root of the sd card (Sd card\all files) , the camera flash lite will turn on for a moment and the screen will display weird black and white lines and would freeze there indefinately untill I restart it after good couple of hours and there would be data file of around 1 gb. Nothing would change even after I reboot again.
Radio- 2.10.50.26
rom- Elegancia gtx v 5.0 final wwe
android- mattcleo froyo 1.8
Please help...AS Android was my motivation behind buying this nice hardware.
Ok, first why don't you just use the search function or just jumpin two pages further? There are about one million people having the same problem as you.
But if I were you, I would try to update my radio at first (at least to 2.12) because 2.10 caused much problems.
And second thing is, which kernel do you use? And how does your startup.txt looks like?
Also make sure your version of WM is Android friendly.
Radio version is important also, most Android versions need a radio that ends with .50, NOT .51...
I would first make sure your current ROM will work with Android. Get a new one if needed. Next do a fresh reformat to fat 32 on your SD card. Last try a new radio: 2.10.50 does work for me, but you may try a 2.12.50 one.
Try to boot up between each of these steps. It may take one or all of them to get you up and running. Good luck.

try a smaller sdcard.
I heard something about 32gb not working with android.
Solved the freezing puzzle.....fell in love with HD2 powered by android
hey thanks guys for support.....
Finally I managed to install Android on my hd2......It was my fake chinese made 32gb micro sd card making the trouble. I read in some forum about it.
Then I bought SANDISK 8 gb class 6 micro sd card and bingo......it worked.
Thank you guys.......And those who is having the same problem give it a try....

[Q] Why wont my HD2 Accept ANYTHING?

Hi,
I have been on this forum for the past 2-3 days trying to get android on my gf's HD2 and it just wont have it.
I have tried MCCM's HD v4 Desire one
I have tried Froyo 1.5
I have tried DL Desire Series, both SD and MAGLAR.
The ones where you click CLRCAD.exe then haret.exe either say it doesent have certificates to run or parts are missing. Or it goes to a black scree and gets stuck on "Jumping To Kernel" and it stays like that for ages (tested for 1 hour, never budged)
The DL desire series via MAGLAR wont work either, I need HSPL (sp?) to install MAGLAR but HSPL keeps reporting back that the file Rapi.dll is missing.
My SPL version is 1.42**** so technically thats right ( from what I have read )
I have tried formatting the SD card via PC and device, also tried a factory reset and an additional 2 other SD cards. Still nada.
What else can it be? Someone mentioned the radio but there is so many questions being asked in a specific thread that mine gets lost and since this is more of a global issue I thought a thread of its own is deserved
I really want this and will go to any length to get it ( not keen on ROM flashing thought, would like to avoid turning the handset into a hammer rather than a phone)
Hope I havent busted any rules
Cheers,
Gib
You need radio 2.14 or more for Android.
aka, upgrade your ROM.
You are not alone
You are not alone here.
I have been having this problem too, I get stuck on the HTC white screen. though I haven't tried much ROM but I have tried formating and reflahing of my WM ROM.
I once did a stock ROM official update with: (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_NLD_3.14.404.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2 .15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship)
ever since I have not been able to find how to flash using SPL, I have been flashing using SSPL_RU and my radio is 2.15.50.14.
Could this reason be the problem.
I need help please I want to have a feel of droid.
Know the feeling
I have been trying all the different android magldr sd roms and everytime its the same story. First boot fine. Second boot and on it just hangs at the green htc logo. I have tried so many things i don't know what to do next.
Have you tried one of the Energy ROM's? I found on my unlocked HD2 that these were the only roms (going back a while now) that I could get Android running off an SD card. I've since heard that there is a basically blank rom for people who want to run nothing but android. It's a small rom, only about 30mb.
It's in a few places around the board. I can't remember what the name of that one is off the top of my head, but any of the Energy series, or the Miri ROM's apparently work too.
Good luck!

Ater trying some nand roms i came back to the orignal firmware( the same as you).
And i also have this problem , it just load into a picture with htc on it.
Have you tried using a different SD card? My Sandisk 8gb didn't accept anything. I had an old 512mb laying around that came with my E90, loaded SuperRAM on it (aprox 450mb including data.img) and it booted straight away.
2.15.50.* is the right radio for most SD builds, make sure you have enough free space on SD. most builds have at least 512mb if not 1gb data.img which gets created when first boot. If runs out of space it will get stuck on boot screen. No hspl required with 3.14 HTC winmo rom
I also try to get Android in my HD2 (energy ROM). I am somewhat puzzled however: I want to flick back and forth between WM and Android and many programs I have reside onto my SD card. I have read in an earlier post that before attempting Android I should format my card - does this mean that I cannot have WM data (programs etc) in the same SD card I run android? or that I can transfer them back AFTER I manage (if) to load Android?. Thank you
The SD card has to be formatted in FAT32. Just to make sure the card is clean I copy all my data to my pc, format the card and transfer it all back.

OK thank you - got it!
Unfortunately I cannot get passed the green HTC splash screen - my HD2 stays there for time no end and the only solution is to take battery out. Any suggestions?
Assuming you've got everything set up properly (right radio, hspl, ...) which you can find on the Android forum. I think you'll have to try using a different brand of sd card. Some cards simply don't play nice with Android.
Got uber annoyed with the SD method, just ended up doing a full scale flash to ROM. Was easier lol

I am using Energy ROM (Energy Serie: Energy.Leo.28244.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Feb.12)
My phone just hangs on the white HTC screen when I try to boot into Android from the SD card. I flashed my ROM with SSPL_RU after an update with the Stock ROM (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_NLD_3.14.404.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship)

I would almost agree with that except, i have 2 exactly the same 16 gb cards, each with a 3 gb fat32 primary partition. 1 loads android but wont allow me to do things like take pictures[it says there isn't an sd card.] The second card just hangs at the green htc screen. Even if I copy the working partition to the other card, it still hangs.

Thanks for this Info. I didn't take into consideration that the file will be enlarged during booting. The copied Android folder was 508MB in size but this got enlarged to about 1.3GB during boot up. I thought if I just leave about 1.2GB in all the SD card I have been trying that it should be enough. But I was wrong.
Thanks a lot I have done multiple reboot without any problem.
I am enjoying my first Android feel.
Thanks once again.
Android on HD2 hates most SD Cards
From my own limited experience to also having read many posts I can say that most sd cards prevent Android from running properly on the hd2. Mine works fine with radio 2.14/2.15 and the stock Sandisk 16gb card that came with my tmous hd2, but I recently tried a wintec 16gb card that made Android run like a broke-wheel-cart and other sd cards I have laying around make it fail.
I think everyone needs to add what card they are using to their signature, or else we might all just end up howling in the wind.
Based on some feedback from another post I just ordered this Sandisk 16gb card from Newegg. It is Model # SDSDQ-016G-A11M . It is reported that that model# provides class10 speeds even though it is sold as a class2. It's use with Android is supposed to be good.

[Q] how long time to install a rom first time?

for me:
normal time to flash HSPL is about 1 minute
normal time to flash a radio is about 20 seconds
normal time to flash a full custom ROM is about 1 minute
after the flash the first boot/setup can take a few minutes.
the longest you should ever have to wait is first boot on an Android SD build with no existing data.img, which can take like 20 minutes, other than that you should not be waiting "hours" for anything.
What should I see...?
Thanks for the reply, I still struggle.
I'm trying to install AmeriCanAndroid. It's my first time at this.
Win 6.5 is clean installed. SD card is formatted FAT32.
Android folder in SD card.
Run clrcad.exe and haret.exe
clrcad.exe does not appear to do anything when run, I assume this is correct.
haret.exe loads, then black screen with approx 9 lines of tiny text.
What next??? Do I just wait??? It just stays like that!

Yes you are doing it correctly. You just have to wait for the Android Os to boot after yo touch on haret. Also when you touch on clcad you will see nothing as this just enables the sound in Android. If it does not bring up the Android lock screen after the max of 15 to 20 minutes than pull the battery cover and press the reset button on the back of the HD2. I suggest you try download and try a diferent Android SD build as that one probably has some kind of issue.
Still trying...
Thanks for the reply.
Some roms mention editing the config.sys file and some mention downloading a data.img file. Are these steps needed for all roms?
So far I have not done anything with these, I have just followed the instructions for AmeriCanAndroid which does not mention these. I have tried several builds of AmeriCanAndroid which looks like the most popular rom, so I don't think the rom is wrong, I just feel I am missing something.

Ok give me a detailed list of what you have done, or as best you can so I can review it and I will try to see if I can see what you are doing wrong if you are doing something wrong that is.
So far
Win 6.5 is clean installed from software choice. SD card is formatted in the phone by win 6.5.
Downloaded AmeriCanAndroid to PC.
Unzipped
coppied the Android folder to the SD card.
Run clrcad.exe
Run haret.exe
Stuck on black screen with approx 9 lines of tiny text.
Removed battery when bored of black screen (anything from 30 mins - 4 hours).
Can't find a reset button on the back of the HD2.
Tried several times, with the last 3 builds of AmeriCanAndroid.
I have NOT - done anything with any config.sys file or data.img file.
NB my windows 6.5 is in Norwegian.

Sorry for the lag between post got busy doing some stuff. Yoiu should not have to mess with the config.sys or data.img file as this is the first boot of Android. Do this look at your SD card and see if it has any files that the Android created on it when booting as it has to create several files on the first boot. If it is then look for the config.sys and data.img files and remove them and try to boot Android again. If it is no files on your SD card then make a backup of your SD card and reformat it again but use the Panisonic formatting tool as they say it works better.
lol sorry just saw you're using haret.
make sure you are using the correct rootfs.img, also maybe try another build.
also, which winmo6.5 ROM and which radio are you on, it makes a difference. You need an updated radio like 2.15.50 or so, really anything above 2.12.50 works well.
THANKS
It works!
My win 6.5 rom was old, so I updated to the last HTC one. Android then had no problems to install on the sdcard.
Many many thanks,

Yes Sir I am running the clrcad.exe first and then The Haret file plus Im waiting almost 2hours each time =/
format sd
put the folder 'Android'- not only its content but the folder itself to sd
clrcad
haret.
if it doesnt boot then hard reset phone and then do all the steps above again
Also,, regular hd2 or tmous? (I ask because 3.14 rom and 2.08.hspl on a regular don't mix, messes with the ram).
Also, for SD android the hspl and radio rules don't matter in the way they do for nand android.
As an aside, I only once got any haret based rom to load in a dozen or so attempts, and it immediately prevented the winmo rom from starting, forcing a hard reset.

Regular, not the tmous... So it is indeed not rare for the haret based rom not to load up in the first or even second attempt ? And will a hard reset really help ? I'll try hard resetting and then repeating the process

Not to cause confusion, but I've found this to be completely untrue. I was running a 3.14 ROM with HSPL 2.08 and Haret for ages, before deciding to give up on WinMo altogether and go to NAND. Everything worked fine.
@OP, have you tried different SD cards?
hey it worked... A simple change of a sd card worked... Tried two others, worked with the third one
thanks all you guys
Can a 3.14 stock TMOUS with 2.15 radio have a dual boot nand android?
No, if winmo is installed nothing else can be on the nand
Then, if I want to dual boot an android SD types are my only choice? I read a thread here stating that NAND is "hands down" better than SD types. If so, then could I still play games in an android SD build as fast as I could in a NAND build?
I recently bumped into this new android version rom
http://hd2apps.blogspot.com/2011/04/htc-hd2-apps-android-cm7-233.html
Like what I've said earlier, my TMOUS is a stock ver. 3.14 with radio ver. 2.15. The post in that blog says that that rom will work on a 2.08 or higher radio, but it stated that 2.12 is recommended, and and hspl 4.
Can I just install the hspl and leave the radio as is?
Bumping thread ^_^
In the Americandroid thread there's a video tut for installing and making the americandroid rom work. At the end of the video the specs of the phone used were posted, it was a 3.14 with a 2.15 radio so that answers my question, but now I have another. The video didn't make it clear whether the 3.14 rom he used was a stock or not, so my question is, can I have an SD android rom on a stock TMOUS winmo rom? Or do I really have to flash a cooked rom?
stock winmo rom is fine
Wow, thanks for the reply. I've been waiting for one in ages ^_^
Well, I tried. Funny thing though... first of, my sim was recognized but I can't seem to see any of my contacts. When I go to "my contacts" it says that I have to import it through accounts or something, but I can't find it anywhere. It says that I have to go to some menu and click on account and import.
Another thing is, when I restarted my phone to use winmo again, most of the programs I installed didn't work anymore like dutty's task manager and the resco file manager to name a few.
Any thoughts on this? I was thinking it was because of the stock rom I have. BTW, I don't have HSPL from what I remember. Just SPL.
Mate you better flash HSPL right now as it will save you from future headaches
yea hspl will save you from plenty of issues down the road
Thanks for the reps guys. I'll post the outcome of this.. thanks again ^_^
Oh, one more question. Does this apply to all SD android roms, or just the one I posted?
Ok, here's the outcome. I tried installing HSPL 2.08 as per instructions of almost all of the sd android rom builds I've seen. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
After installing HSPL 2.08, I noticed a big difference in my winmo. I hardly get any bars in my signal bar, hence, I can't text, I can't call and can't be contacted.
So I went back and installed SPL 3.03.
BTW, I have an unlocked TMOUS with stock 3.14 rom and radio 2.15, and now have SPL 3.03.
I would like to keep my stock 3.14 rom (or, if a cooked rom is needed I would like a closest to stock 3.14 cooked rom) and run an SD android rom. How do I do that? Is there an SD android rom out there that fits my needs?
Thanks for the help again.

HTC HD2 SD ROM Not Booting!

Hello, I am trying to dual boot Sense 3.5( and MyTouch4G ROM on my HTC HD2, the problem that I am having is that when I try to boot the the SD ROM it gets to the boot logo and then after 5 minutes or so it boots to Sense 3.5 ROM.
Device's/Software Being Used -
Windows 8 PC
Australian (512mb) HTC HD2
Original HTC HD2 Charging/Data Cord
MAGLDR
Sense 3.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632
MyTouch4g SD ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220151
Boot_Magldr.rar - Post 3 MyTouch ROM
Here are the steps that I have used to copy the ROM to my SD card
1.Download the Part 1 and Part 2.rar files and put them on my desktop.
2.Opened Part 1.rar and open the folder "BOXMAX.GTS.V3.0" and then opened the folder called "Android" and copied to SD
3.Opened Part 2.rar and copied files to the SAME Android folder on SD Card. When asked if I want to overwrite files I press no.
4. Open Boot_Magldr.rar and copied files to the SAME Android folder on SD Card. When Asked if I want to overwrite file I press yes.
5. Turn of HTC HD2 (512mb)
6. Boot To MAGLDR and do these steps
1. Go to Services
2. Go to Boot Settings
3. Go to AD SD Dir
4. Select Android folder
5. Select Boot AD SD
7. Wait for 4-5 minutes
8. Starts to boot to NAND ROM
9. Boots to NAND ROM
10. I reboot to try again
11. Repeat steps 8 (part 5) to 8
12. BOOT LOOP
Please Help, I will/have tried to be as descriptive as possible

I think it's to do with the same kernel being used for the NAND and SD builds. I haven't read much about it but earlier there was a thread in the Q&A in which a dev explained it (think it was 3dak) and you're going to have to use another build with an SD kernel such as Hastarin 8.6

Now how exactly do I do that?
some of the SD build booting will be influenced by NAND build
maybe you can ask the chief about your system. But I think you can verify this by empty your nand, then see if the SD build gets normal.

Not much point, this is pretty much certainly your issue. And OP, just use a different build

Another build of the Glacier ROM, what one would you recommend, I'm so new to the HTC HD2 stuff its so different for the Motorola Atrix

No, another ROM completely is what I meant, such as MCCM's or something. Dunno what the good SD builds are now but MCCM's used to be the best. However, if you look through the changelog for the glacier ROM and see that the kernel was changed somewhere, try using that older version with the different kernel and see if it works.
Also, a bit off topic but how good is the Atrix? My friend is getting one and he wants to know if it's a good choice, he probably won't flash anything to it though.
