Wireless Sync not triggering? - Venue Pro General

I hate to post this here as well, but I'm completely stumped.
Basically, wireless sync will not start no matter how long the phone is left idle while plugged into the AC adapter. I've got it set up and everything, multiple times. I've tried a replacement phone from Dell. I've tried a new router. I've tried switching my router to 802.11g and 802.11b only (instead of N). I've tried reinstalling Zune. Basically, none of it makes any difference.
If anyone has any suggestions what I might be missing, I'd much appreciate it.

problems related to what the phone does with wireless when the screen goes black which is a windows phone 7 issue
i've gotten it to work just not consistently fof one thing you can try is setting the screen timeout to 5 minutes and resseting up wifi sync in zune after making that change

Maybe it's a firewall issue on your computer? Wireless sync is working well for me, so it does work on the DVP.
Try asking @winphonesupport on Twitter. They are quick to respond and usually helpful.

Thank you. At this point, I have zero ideas, so I'll do anything that doesn't involve spending 3 hours on phone with Zune tech support.

So let me get this straight - you're able to sync when you're not plugged in? As in wireless sync is completely broken for you?

Yes. I can sync the phone (or any phone, it would seem) just fine over USB--without that, I'd be quite pissed, I imagine--but wireless sync simply doesn't exist.

It could be a firewall issue - do you have anything like Kaspersky or Zone Alarm installed? They usually block everything. You could temporarily turn off your AV and/or firewall, and see if it helps.
Also, this may be minor, but I am assuming you have enabled wireless sync under Zune Settings > Device > Wireless Sync?

Yes, that's the only way you can actually set up the process (which I've done dozens of times).
I'm only using the Windows 7 Firewall....I once disabled it entirely, and didn't find that helped.
Funny thing, I ended up trying the no. 3 phone again, and got it to sync wirelessly! And then an hour later, I tried again, and it'd only go to "connecting..." before giving up.
Now it's not even trying. Just like my no. 2 phone. Lovely.

I think wireless sync depends on these services:
Zune Windows Mobile Connectivity Service
Zune Wireless Configuration Service
Are both of those running on your PC? You can check by running services.msc
There may also be some helpful info at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/music/sync-files-with-my-phone.aspx

I've seen that page before, so...nothing new, unfortunately.
Both those services are running, and set on automatic. That was one of the earlier things recommended to be. Thank you, nonetheless.

Why oh why is Activesync so awful??

Here I am, installing 4.1 for a third time....
Why is it so hard to make a stable connection utility? All I get now, no matter what I do re: firewall/connecting while off/rebooting/rerunning AS is "USB Device Not Recognized".
God I hates it.
I take it there is NO alternative to syncing my Outlook 2003 etc?
Yep, it's about as tempremental as a 3 year child.
I find best solution after that error is.
1 disconnect pc and universal
2 reboot both and let them finish starting
3 press power switch on universal to put it to stand by.
4 connect them
5 when universal awakes go to activesync and select sync.
Have you checked your firewall thoroughly?
This drove me crazy until I realized the firewall was blocking connection to the device.
Remember that with stoopid new activesync, which also conveniently removes wifi syncing, you are making a tcp connection to the device that requires a clear path through your firewall.

I gave up on trying to get USB to work with Activesync ... after several hours of frustration. I use the "Connect via Bluetooth" option and it has worked perfectly everytime, which is a great improvement of my XDAII. I hope this helps.
I used the newest german version on buzzdev.net

Activesync 4.5 doesn't work anymore

Hi. I've had a really good search for info before posting and tried lots of things but I'm stumped!
I've got a Softbank X01HT (HTC Hermes 200). It used to work fine with AS4.2 and 4.5 but stopped working one day and hasn't worked since!
When I connect the phone via USB everything looks normal. I get bing-bong and bong-bing etc, I can see the phone is attached in device manager, the phone charges etc. etc. but AS won't connect to the phone. In AS connection setting it says USB is available etc. I have deselected advanced USB connection and tried "work"/"internet" etc.
I haven't done anything to the phone. No upgrading of ROMS or OS or anything. I even gave my laptop a first birthday!
I have a Dell Precision M60 running Win XP SP2 and a fresh installation.
I have deselected "do not allow exceptions" in Windows Firewall and AS has put exceptions for itself in there.
I am not running through a hub.
I'm hoping someone can help - maybe I missed something in all my searching for a solution.
Had something similar happen to me once. Resolved it by deleting the partnership on the pc from within active sync on pc (make sure phone isn't connected or active sync won't let you delete the partnership). Issue was with the partnership profile on the pc getting corrupted nothing to do with phone at all. Once partnership is deleted connect phone (make sure you have reset your phone settings that you have changed back to default) and set up a new partnership. Good luck and let us know if it works.

Thanks for replying.
As mentioned, my laptop got a "first birthday" i.e. the HDD was wiped and the OS re-installed. There are therefore no pertnerships or remnants buried deep in the registry etc. to delete. In AS (with or without the phone connected) everything except for "connections settings" is greyed out.

Do you by any chance have zone alarm running? If you do switch it off and see if it works. If you don't then switch off Windows Firewall and see if works. Post the results.

Active sync
I had a similar problem. Check out Settings/Connections USB to PC and uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"
This worked for me.
May not be related but worth a try.

Cheers. When at work, Windows firewall is off. When at home it is on but exceptions are allowed and AS has put itself in the exceptions. Switching off the firewall completely is not an option as the admin has switched that function off (greyed out). This is no different to when it was all working so I'm not so sure it's that.
I don't have zone alarm. In fact I have re-installed very little since having reinstalled Windoze.

Had a similar problem.
Open task manager. Is RAPImgr.exe taking up all the processor time on a CPU (so will take 50% on a dual core machine, 100% on single core).
I had this issue with AS 4.5 when upgrading from the old machine (Wizard) to the new Hermes and basically had to reboot between connection attempts to get RAPIMgr to die. When I killed it manually, the computer rebooted anyway.
The problem with this seemed to be disconnecting it mid-sync and then connecting a new phone which then broke it. The way I solved it was to stop connecting the Wizard.....
Perhaps try removing the relationships on AS on the phone. I guess it might work....
Hi last suggestion I have - I know you mentioned your pc was wiped so there are no partnerships, however the first time you tried to connect your phone since then something might have gone wrong and a partnership might have started to be created but not yet completed. With your phone disconnected can you open active sync, click on "file" then on "delete mobile device" (if it allows you to - it might be greyed out) - See if that works and get back to us.
Cheers

proper activesync shutdown

Hi, I have an intermittent problem with my activesync. I charge and sync my phone in the office via usb in my laptop. At an average, I plug and unplug my phone 10x a day. I could charge and sync most of the time but I notice that after several unpluggin and pluggin, my activesync won't syn anymore I tried all possible solution like starting and stopping programs, services, etc. but the only way to get it back working is to reboot and restart my phone, w/c is unacceptable to me because I still have tons of work to do and this restarting causes a lot of downtime on my part. Is there anybody who could shed light or any possible solutions to this? Thanks.
any takers or brave souls out there?

is there such a thing(proper activesync shutdown) or to put it in other words; if such thing exists? i think its due to the complexity of our company's(large corporation) network security implementation. what do you think?

ActiveSync not working (all of a sudden)

Hi All
I searched the Forum but couldn't find a solution to this problem.
1. Came back form holiday yesterday - synced up my HD" with Outlook no problem
2. Tried to do it this morning. By the normal 'connect PC' option didn't come up and activsync icon didn'tr light up on PC
3. Rebooted HD2 and PC..no change
4. Tried to repair/reinstall activ sync, but towards the end of the repair it says 'there was a network error reading from file 'setup/msi'. Guessing that the file may be corrupt, I downloaded it again..same problem..so I can't repair or reinstall
5. There is definitely a connection of some sort as the HD2 begins to charge when connected
Bottom line is that the HD2 is not syncing - and I can't figure out why not.
Any advice appreciated...
Thanks
Do you have a Norton (Symantec) firewall installed? I’ve found that the Norton product can interfere with ActiveSync.
Active Sync not working
Good point..but no. I have AVG installed (and everything was working OK yesterday)
Spooky thing is, I have managed to uninstal, reinstal and reboot..and it still won't show that it's connected with AS even though there is a connection of some kind, cos the device is charging.
Steve
ActiveSync is just a bit crap. It'll do this occassionaly, so if you use it a lot then get used to it.
A restart of the phone, whilst the USB cable is not plugged in, usually does the trick. Only plug it in again when it's fully started.
Also, try setting the AS connection to not allow USB connections, unplugging and plugging back in, and then setting it to once again allow USB connections.
Just messing with it like that usually works for me. Like I said, it's just a bit crap.
Activ Sync
Yeah, I seem to recall I had this problem a while back - I'll faff around with the settings and see if it makes a difference

Well if johncmolyneux's suggestions don't work then try disconnecting your phone from the PC, restarting both, disconnecting the PC from the network, disabling the firewall element of AVG (if it has one) and then connecting the phone to the PC again.
If that doesn't work I can only suggest removing ActiveSync, totally shutting down your PC, starting up, then re-installing ActiveSync.
I had a similar problem but I was able to narrow it down to Norton in the end but it's a real pain when you don't know why it won't work.
Good luck with this.
I also occasionally was not able to connect with Active Sync, but rebooting the HD2 always fixes that issue. You said that this did not helped you, so try messing with the settings on Active Sync, like johncmolyneux said, also try when plug the usb cable into the device by default it asks you what kind of connection you're establishing (Active sync, data transfer and internet sharing) - try using data transfer, if it connects, unplug and connect it again, this time use active sync.
Reinstall activsync and Try to disable faster data Synchonization on HD2
Active Sync not working (solved)
That'll teach me to not check the obvious! - It turned out that the cable had developed a fault. I changed the cable and it's now OK.
Case closed.

Wi-fi not working when phone goes to sleep

My galaxy S4 connects to any network flawlessly and I can browse the web, etc. but when I press the power button to lock the phone or if the phone goes to sleep by itself, when I unlock the phone, I'm still connected to the wireless network, but I can't browse the web or do anything. I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to do anything (and sometimes it takes 5 mins. to find the network. it says it's not in range 90% of the time). I've set wi-fi to "always on" during sleep and I've also turned wi-fi power saving mode off in the hidden menu but it still doesn't work. Like I said, it doesn't disconnect but the orange down arrow flashes and I can't browse the web, etc. I actually wiped the phone and the problem went away for a few days but cropped back up yesterday which leads me to believe there must be some bug causing it but I have no idea what triggers it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
Are you running stock rom?

Sounds like what I'm experiencing as well!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303379
Hey guys,
Just noticed something odd this last few days. The statusbar WiFi icon is dimmed; but I'm connected on WiFi just fine. I can browse, and the WiFi settings is showing all is OK. As in, I'm still connected to my SSID.
Anyone experienced this? What's the best way for me to pull logs? I'm a bit of an Android n00b.
The particular SSID is on a 5GHz AC channel (pretty sure it's on AC, or at the very least N), on TKIP+AES. I've read that the S4 had problems with D-Link routers on TKIP+AES, but I've got an ASUS running DD-WRT. I don't have any other problem with the other devices in the house on WiFi.
Running WanamLite ROM, with FauxKernel 3.
Thanks!

I should clarify,
I'm connected to my router/SSID; but I can't connect to the internet.
But I'm trying out this new solution people have been suggesting.
I created a guest SSID on my router (ASUS RT-AC66U, on ASUS-Merlin firmware), and I pretty much disabled Intranet access on the guest account, and dropped TKIP.
Let's see if the problem will go away.

i believe this was/is a bug for the SIII. a quick search should bring you to a thread i was flipping through earlier for my girlfriends S3. I noticed it the first day I had my S4 but havent seen it happen since.

The two solutions provided for that bug are to set Wi-Fi to always on during sleep and to turn off the wireless power saving mode in the hidden menu (which can only be accessed by dialing a certain number). Neither of those solutions work.
No go, problem is still very much there for me.
So far I've:
1) Created a guest SSID, with only AES. Problem is still there
2) Loaded a different kernel (albeit a 9505 kernel). Problem is still there.
I'm rooted, running a different kernel and ROM than stock. I'm on Virgin Mobile i337M (Canadian S4). I've unlocked my phone through the Service Menu, I've also enabled my AWS bands, using the QTPS patch. Though I think this is all irrelevant, because theloneranger08 is running an unrooted phone.
So something must've cause the WiFi sleep issue.
EDIT:
What's the best way to go about logging the issue here? I'm a total Logcat newbie. I managed to set it up on my Mac; but not sure what sort of logging I should be doing. Cheers!

Yeah I can't seem to get it fixed. I actually decided to call AT&T and they are sending me a new phone along with the necessary supplies to send my current one back. Hopefully it's a hardware issue and the new phone is fine. Although the fact that it worked for two weeks with no problems and wiping it got rid of the problem for a couple days leads me to believe it must be some bug in the software. Granted, I haven't come across hardly anyone (besides the people on this thread) with this issue so hopefully it is hardware related. I'll be so ticked if the new phone does the same thing...
I got a new phone and I didn't have any issues for a few days but now it's back. Anyone have any ideas?

Kinda impossible for two phones to have the same exact issue. Which lead me to believe this is a software bug.
Can you verify if you have "Check for Internet service" enabled, on Advance WiFi settings (Settings > WiFi > (tap menu) > Advance).
I restored my phone a few days ago, wiped it clean. I decided not to use this feature (it's off by default; but I had it on when I first encountered this issue), and I have yet to see the problem we had. I spoke to a friend who's a network engineer, it could be due to timeouts to the cell towers, whilst checking internet connection periodically, etc. etc.

No it's turned off. I've tried everything but I just can't find a fix. Is there anyway to somehow log the phone and see what runs when I put the phone to sleep? Is it possible that it's an app doing it?

If you're still having this issue, can you check into your Accounts setting? See if there's any sync error.
I had no problem for a few weeks after restoring my phone to factory setting. Then two days ago, the issue re-appear. The last thing I did was adding a new Google account (secondary account, for work). That's when the WiFi problem started appearing again. Then I noticed the sync issue on the newly added account, I had to uncheck certain options, and check them back again. Since then, the issue hasn't re-appear *crossing my fingers*
Way back in the day, I remember that WiFi indicators would look different if you have WiFi with internet access, but not connected to Google accounts (or have issues).
I know this is different than what we initially talked about; but I guess we're eliminating possibilities.
