Help: How to rename file in System folder - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello everybody,
Unfortunately, I get by in a change that I have blocked the start of my Galaxy S.
I wanted to remove the animation in the initial activation of Vodafone and I discovered that the file "indicted" was playlogos1 (I think) so I renamed the file with Root Explorer as playlogos1.bak.
I rebooted the phone and while booting it shows me your phone model, as it always has, and then black screen occasionally emitting vibrations ...
I think the problem can be solved by putting the name of the file as it was originally: playlogos1
Do you know how to do it if you can do to access the folder /System/ bin in which there is rename the file to your phone via pc being in this situation?
Thank you all!!
NOTE: Sorry for my english but.... I'm italian!

Try root explorer - its a paid app, but i feel its worth it.
Obviously your phone has to be rooted to use it

Sounds like he has root explorer and has renamed a file and is now stuck in a boot loop?
Is that right?
If so boot into recovery and do a factory reset and that should fix the problem.
But you will lose all of your apps etc.

Thanks to everybody.
In effect the phone was rooted and I have used Root Explorer to rename the file but noe I'm looking for a method to access via ADB to the phone as "su" to rename the file playlogos1.
Who know how to copy update.zip on /sdcard without touch the phone (because is blocked)?

ADB can see your phone in recovery mode. However the things you can do are limited... I think you might be able to rename the file that way.

In recovery mode I'm not able to connect via ADB...only if I start the phone normaly.
Other big problem is to have r/w permission to rename the file

[Q] Boot animation

Hi,
I just tried to install a custom boot animation thru root explorer, following Master's instructions. When I go to paste the boot animation it says cannot paste read only. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with "Root Explorer", so i'm not 100% sure.
You most likely need to enable the root feature.
if you do not have root access you cannot paste into a -ro file.
You could also use Android Commander (Windows Program). I find that the easiest way to do it.
I am perma rooted (s= off) and root explorer has root privlages, so I dont know what else to say. Master's directions were very clear & easy it just wont allow me to paste.

Try Super Manager or Android Commander.

in root explorer, at the very top of the page youre pasting in, there should be a button that says set r/w. make sure to press that before attempting to paste, otherwise you will get the error you mentioned.
Thanks, I did that and it pasted. I ended up with two files in there and had no boot animation at all and when powering up it went directly to the lock screen. Since that I restored my backup to undo the changes I made. I dont know what went wrong, but would like to try again, as I do want a cool boot animation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you tried using Android Commander?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11104925&postcount=53
to check the boot animation from the terminal type "adb shell" a "#" should appear then type bootanimation. it should so up on the phone, to get out of it hold control and tap C. If you do it from the terminal emulator on the phone only a battery pull will get you out of the cycle.

Dude, what Rom are you on? Depending on that, the bootainmation needs to be labeled differently.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Depending on the rom, you will also need to rename the boot animation to the same name as the one on the current rom... for instance on my iced glacier rom, the standard boot animation is named TMUS_bootanimation, rename the file to that same file name and copy it to the same folder and select to over ride the current file in the folder

Copy a file wpa_suppliment

I am trying to copy this file into the /wifi folder and soon as I hit paste the original file disappears after it asks me to overwrite it. If I hit refresh the folder is empty. for the life of me I cant get that file on there. I am using root explorer. Its a custom file for using LEAP authentication here that other android people are using and it works for them but they have a Galaxy and I have an Aria..

it's because aria is S-OFF (NAND-LOCKED)...you'll have to do this via adb.

I did some research on this and on my boot screen it shows S-ON. Supposidly unrevoked was supposed to give me root access but I guess it failed? Where would I go from there can you run unrevoked again?

That's what i meant, sorry. S-ON is correct. You probably have root access. either way, you need to do this from ADB while you are in clockwork recovery. there are directions on this on the aria forums.
Edit: When i say directions on this i don't mean exactly what you are attempting to do but rather, the concept of pushing things to the phone with adb.

USA 1.141.07 update fix with. .img's

Alright Guys in the USA. I will be posting the .img files to fix your device or update your device to 1.141.07 if you have either used the chinese update fix or some other various fix that left you with a different boot image. The instructions are simple.
1. Connect your tablet to the computer via USB. Put the boot.img and the system.img on your SD Card. Also put the Update.zip then use a file explorer to move the update.zip to the root of your SD card. Which is external SD. If you use Astro. (Alternatively you can just take your SD card out and put it in your computer to put the update.zip.)
2. You need to first push the boot.img
-Open ADB type su then hit enter. (your device will prompt for superuser you must select allow) Then enter the command below.
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (hit Enter)
3. Then push the system.img
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
4. Force shutdown your device when those finish (as your screen may not turn on.)Then hold volume - and the power button "until the green android comes up very important do not let them go just because the device turns on" to start the update.zip. Let it finish (Your device will reboot when it completes.
5. Enjoy the fact your device is back to stock and you can now update when future updates release.
To push the files you will need adb shell. If you dont know what that is look it up, It is part of the android development kit. Second these 2 commands will push the files to their proper mount block. You must push the boot.img first then the system.img These files are for the USA update 1.141.07

Here are 2 Mirrors To download the boot.img you will need to download both as the uploader made it a 2 part file making it easier for some countries to download. Give thanks yo ardatdat if these came in handy.

** Alright guys I am just posting this link for when you just do the update.zip because you are already on 1.104.05_COM_GEN1 and you have a different kernel then the update.zip, What will happen is when you reboot the tablet from just doing the update.zip you may have WIFI error. These files should resolve that issue. Once again they are only if you have WIFI Error on reboot. To install these you will need some type of file explorer that has rw access to the file system. I rec. Root Explorer. To install these follow these instructions.
1. Copy both modules to your SD card does not matter where.
2. With your File Explorer/Manager Copy both of these files. (Root Explorer will let you multi-select if you hit the menu button.)
3. Navigate to System/Lib/Modules.
4. **This step is very important- You must Mount your System for RW access. If you don't they will not copy. Once you have RW just hit the paste button and then reboot your device.
5. **This step is for anyone still having wifi error after reboot. (Stop being lazy lol and just do all the steps. From the top by mounting the boot.img and system.img that way your device is 100% stock there for no checksum issues.

Thank you thor2002ro for posting these on your kernel modules thread. Which is found here for anyone having any other issues.

thanks so much for this. to verify my build number is 1.141.07_COM_GEN1 is that right?
Success! This worked like a charm! I didn't have to use the recovery img I just used the update.zip.
After update:
Kernel: g9b3ce2b
Build: Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1
Good work and thanks!
edit: Actually I guess I do have one issue right now. After the update my wifi stopped working. When I go to the wifi settings I see "Error" under Wi-Fi and the check box is grayed out so that it can't be clicked. Any help?
Had a German 1.112 build i guess, bricked it and revocered it with Acer_A500_1.122.01_EMEA_GEN5. Used boot and system image and then updated and it really works!!! Thank you very very very much!!!
EDIT1: I even not lost my settings and can set the language to German too!!
EDIT2: Root gone (as expected), used Gingerbreak (tab version) and everything works fine.

well the only thing I can think of it either the lib modules for wifi are messed up in which case I can post a link with them or the kernel is different. I would use the 2 .img that I posted then use the update zip. That way the images replace your kernel which is always the root cause of wifi errors.
here is a link to the wifi lib modules. You need to use something like root explorer. To mount the system as rw. Then navigate to system/lib/modules and copy those two files into there with the system mounted as rw. Reboot and see if it fixes the issue!!

Maybe some file corruption?! Loaded per the directions and on boot got error:
"Secure Boot Image LNX checksum fail"
Going back to the Chinese Rom.
You get that only when do don't do all three'. Once you reboot after pushing the 2 images. You have to hold down the volume - and the power button it will then run the update zip to complete.

as far as i remember, CWM will be removed each time you restart your phone, unles you have a custom kernel/rom.
but its been long time ago when i did that x3
If stock there is a file that needs to be removed or renamed,

No. You merely need to rename / remove the install-recovery.sh script in /etc to prevent the stock recovery from writing at boot.

Yeah, restoring the file will then cause the stock recovery to be written upon reboot (if you want to go back to the stock recovery for some reason).
same but i solved it
clockworkmodrecovery rom manager find and install
open it and touch flash clockworkmod recovery(first item)
select reboot into recovery manual
mount and storage select
mount USB storage
unmount
++++ go back +++++
install from zip sdcard
find
'' super user.zip'' flash
reboot
es file explorer select setting mark root explorer and mount file system after
select phone in file explorer find etc folder select and find ''install-recovery.sh'' file and rename file for example ''install-recovery.sheski'' and
open rom manager again touch flash clockworkmod recovery(first item)
check it...

I have renamed app_process.

I'm trying to install the update. The update said something is changed in the system/bin/app_process. So using root Explorer I saw app_process and app_process.orig.
Thinking the app_process.orig is the unchanged one. I renamed the app_process to app_process.new.
I was trying to rename app_process.orig to app_process but somehow root Explorer can't so I rebooted.
Now its not booting up. Is there a way I can go to the files without booting up and rename the app_process?

Some custom recoveries (TWRP) will let you browse the files on your device. I know that files can be copied, moved, deleted - I do not know if they can be renamed. My guess is yes, though. If you can boot to recovery go ahead and try that.
If you can't boot to recovery do you at least have ADB access? You can always ADB push the file you want if you do. There are guides out there if you don't know how to do it. I google for a quick refresher every time I have to ADB push a file.
I'm on stock recovery, I can see the device with 'fastboot devices' but 'adb devices' can't see my device? Is this a problem of driver? Or because I haven't checked the developers option? If I can only access the device I can rename back that file.
