i dropped my hd2 and the volume button (the rocker thing) broke this is my 2nd broken htc hd2 so i cant afford another but maybe a good repair service or a self repair does anyone know a workaround or is there a way to use magldr without volume switch then i would be good so anyhelp thanx
There's no workaround. You need that volume button for magldr
Didn't someone create his own magldr alternative? I believe it was cedesmith? Could be a possible workaround although I don't know if it requires the volume button too..
i just broke my volume button as well. is there an alternative to magldr?
oh well...luckily ive got a stable ROM on. i guess ill just have to live with it until i upgrade to a new phone

im sure the bootloader is before Magldr in sequence so if that is loading you should be able to load the bootloader. You are holding volume down while turning on aint you? What radio are you using?

In MAGLDR do the volume buttons allow you to scroll up and down? If not, maybe your volume rocker took a **** on you?
help!
how to recover the phone if the volume rocker is indeed stuck?!
I presume you have a correct radio version.... ? That causes hang at boot.

There should really be no reason you cant boot into bootloader if your volume buttons are working properly. turn phone completely off for 10 minutes turn phone on then hold volume button down till you boot into bootloader screen. I think you are holding volume button down slightly before your phone is turning on.
No reaction! im again in the MAGDLR menu....
please help! I have the same problem. Volume keys work, but I cant get into tri color bootloader. Nor can I load any nand rom, just stuck on HTC logo! please help me !!!!

OK so after doing a TON of research and having spurts of false hope, I have figured out that the phone is indeed bricked. There is only one person in US that I know who can save it and he uses jtag. Here is his link. Send him a pm describing your situation and he'll help you out. I recommend him!!!

Hey Guys. I was hoping someone could help me with my problem.
Currently my HTC HD2 is running cyanogenmod7 using MAGLDR 1.13.
I want to switch back to winmo 6.5 to start fresh and have read tutorials that i need to enter bootloader ( the red, white, green screen thingy) to establish a connection with activesync. But the problem is that i can't actually get into bootloader and i have tried volume down button with the power button combo and it doesn't seem to work.
If someone knows how to get to bootloader then please help.
While the phone is off... do what you did... hold power and volume down buttons...
Yes, i tried that 20 times and it doesn't work

Does the volume down button work on your HD2? Sounds like it does not.
That's the strange part. My volume buttons work perfectly in Android and Magldr. I don't know what's happening
switch off the phone and open it again while you are holding the end call button

No no no no no and NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is nothing in MAGLDR that can make your HD2 go into bootloader. The only this.g that can get you into the bootloader besides the external hardware buttons is the bootloader.exe that can be run from inside Windows Mobile. It can only be run from inside Windows Mobile. MAGLDR is a custom bootloader that runs after the HSPL bootloader and has no way of communicating with the HSPL bootloader.
At the OP, you may have a faulty volume button ribbon that is causing you not to be able to boot into the bootloader. Check out this thread you will see what I mean. Read post #10
Boot loader mode
Bootloader mode is handy for checking the HD2's version of Hard SPL as well as the installed ROM and Radio versions, and also for ROM or Radio flashing to the HD2. I sometimes use the Bootloader method to flash ROMs as it saves connecting to Activesync/WMDC because the PC recognises the HD2 as connected via USB. It is also useful for flashing a ROM or Radio version if the battery charge is less than 50%, as it ignores the 50% charge warning that is normally displayed when flashing if the HD2 is low on charge. Never use this method if you have less than a 30% charge as you will be in deep trouble if the HD2 runs out of power while flashing a ROM or Radio version!
To place the HD2 into Bootloader mode, remove the HD2's back cover hold down the volume down key, now press in the red reset button under the back cover to the bottom left of the SIM, release the soft reset button but continue to hold the volume down key in until you are presented with the tri colour bootloader screen. To exit Soft Reset the device.

Can you get into the windows start- settings - system? If yes, there is an app that says "clear storage memory", which brings you back to the factory settings when you bought it. It's worth a try.
Entering bootloader screen is sometimes difficult: press and hold the volume down button and then press shortly
the power button, this should bring you to this screen. If it does not, remove your battery for at least 10 minutes and try again.
Good luck and regards, Kuzibri
I had the same problem ...
I could not enter the bootmanager in android brief button press to end a call, we moved the menu to shut down, reset, etc, the same menu that appears when you hold down the button longer to stop calling ...
This defect appeared to me after I lay HD2 due to large changes in ambient temperature ...
After a few days of research, opening, drying I removed the defect, so I pulled out and cleaned the keys below the screen (Home, Menu, Back, red and green) and wipe the foil that these pressures are the same buttons ...
My HD2 has been working for 2 weeks with no errors
same here but ...
to get in to bootloader i just discovered a different (strange)way ... from winmo , with back cover off press red reset button and imediately while reseting press volume down ... this is my only way to get in to ... otherwise , all the keys are fully working when in windows mobile .
very strange
all the keys includind the volume down key, works well inside windows, but I just cant go to bootloader.
I will dismante the phone, wash it and dry it, to see if something changes,
I have problem getting into 3 color bootloader also, but its because my voulme down is broken/ doesn't work anymore. Any other ways besides the volume down button?

only if you are currently running winmo 6.5, , theres a winmo app to restart into bootloader.
alternatively, dismantle the phone and short the voldown connections.

all stock roms include an spl, i think YOU mean ''or stock rom with hspl.''', , no, there are no stock roms that include hspl.
there is only one way to apply HSPL, , and that's through bootloader.

Hi, I had a similar problem where I could not enter the boot loader. The solution I found that worked for me was provided by: broncogr on another thread discussing a similar issue with the DHD ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889567 )
"restart the phone
when the capacitive buttons light is off immediately press and hold volume - button and keep holding until device is in bootloader
cheers " - broncogr
Hope this helps someone.

Whoa, you're a forum mod now? I remember seeing you around when I was a noob Anyway, I assume he means the tricolour/HSPL bootloader since no vol down wouldn't impair MAGLDR.
@OP there's no way to get into the bootloader without a working volume down button AFAIK. Sorry.

Yeah I was recently promoted to forum mod
I still hang out here to help out people with HD2 issues though sometimes.
Well you can do it from Winmo using ActiveSync, but it is going to be tougher from Android.
Can't you get into HSPL from magldr?
Well I've seen dozens of threads like this where people have broken volume down buttons but never any solutions. You can't do it through Android (all of the reboot options just restart the phone no matter what one you choose) and you can't do it via Magldr either. You can get into the bootloader with a broken power/end call button (there's a reset button on the back of the device) but not with a broken volume button.

Lost boot, repair boot by Riffbox
Hello, I have an HTC Touch HD with the 1.56.401.0 (43972) WWE Rom and SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 on top. I want to breath new life into it and searching for a suitable ROM to flash it. The main reason I haven't tried so far is that my Vol Down key is busted so I can't do much. What I want to ask is if there's another way to do this through connecting my htc to a desktop pc and what steps do I have to take to flash it successfully. Sorry if this looks like a stupid question but since my htc has serious stability issues I have to ask for help.
Any help or guidance/tip would be much appreciated.
Thanks
You need the Vol Down key to work in order to flash.
The phone must be in "bootloader" (3-colour screen) to flash.
Bootloader mode is done by pressing Vol Down + Power key combination.
Try and see if you can make the Vol Down key work without the back cover by poking a pin directly at the Vol Down contact. Sometimes it will work.
Cannot flash if you cannot reach the bootloader mode.
Thanks chan.sk for the head's up. I'll try and see what happens.
