dont think there is a difference. a nandroid backup is a complete image of your file system at the time of backup. essentially a complete copy of your phone's state. its done in clockwork/bootstrap recovery

+1 for racinwarrior
and i think you made a typo in your op.

Thanks 4 your help it looks like you clarified that for me. Oh ya I did eff up on my spelling. Ment to say nandroid back up and android back up. okay so I have bootstrap recovery and have done a backup. so does this mean if my phone is messed up I can revert back to that date I did the backup and my phone should be okay ? And do I need to do a complete wipe data of my phone ? thanks for everyones help

Yeah, i always wipe system, data, cache when i'm restoring a back up just to be on the safe side as a nandroid will literally restore your phone to the condition it was in when you backed it up

Make a nandroid backup. Flash the new rom. Goto advance restore in CWM and flash data

I believe they are talking about booting into CWM and there is an option to make a backup. So flash your rom and then restore with your backup.
yup, "nandroid" backup is the backup option within clockwork recovery, its a full backup of your phone. flash a new rom, then boot to clockwork and do backup and restore > advanced > select your backup > restore data. voila
Thanks for the replies. I wish I had realized this 2 months ago when I started flashing ROMS, I could've had an extra 20hrs to my life.lol I always backup thru clockwork, just never checked under advanced restore.

Cant remember names of apps I used before flashing.

Hey people,
Yea, I just flashed a new ROM and I couldnt remember the apps I used to have. Is there any way I could find out and recover the game saves?
Thanks.

If you downloaded them thru Market then you can goto http://market.android.com and you'll see a list under my account. If you used a non-wipe ROM the data will still be there and unless the apps don't wipe the data themselves you'll be able to access it.
It's a full wipe ROM, I do have a CWM backup. Is there anything I could do with it?

What game is it? Many save game data on the sdcard which isn't included on cwm backups so either you will still have the savedata on your sdcard or it's already gone forever.. otherwise use wunyaffs to unpack your nandroid backup and search through it
I installed the game and it at first stages.
So, I've restored the backup and hope to use titanium backup to backup the games and apps.
Then, flash LeoMar's ROM and then restore through titanium backup.
Is there anything wrong that I could be possibly doing?

Did that, everythings fine.

New Nexus Questions

Bout to get my nexus 4, will be dropped off by UPS tomorow. And i have a few questions, if anyone will be kind enough to answer.
Would it be a smart idea to unlock the bootloader and root it with TWRP recovery like the second i take it out of the box so that way i dont have to back anything up?
And then, when i decide to switch to a non stock ROM i will just need Titanium backup to backup my stuff and then im good to go?
Also, one more question, since nexus's dont have SD cards, wont my titanium backups get wiped when i flash a rom?
Thanks
1) Yes it would probably be a good idea to unlock and root right away. That's what I done with my Nexus 7. I didn't install recovery though because I wasn't interested in custom ROMs. If you're going to be flashing things right away then yes install the recovery aswell.
2) Titanium Backup will do that perfectly for you but you could always just make the backup through recovery. As you said you'll be using TWRP it means you can restore data separately from a backup anyway.
3) You don't need to worry about backups being wiped because they're stored in the internal SD. It's essentially just space to make sure important things can still be safe even if you factory reset.
Hope that helps

Btw I would recommend Helium instead of Titanium Backup for backing up your stuff. Works much more efficiently, at least for me. Helium backs up everything, apps and app data, launcher, WiFi settings, user dictionary, launcher setup, and all your SMS data. I really like it and I've fully replaced Titanium Backup with it.

Instead of titanium backup use go backup pro and save it to the cloud

After you root & unlock the device I strongly suggest you play around with the phone for a few days and see how battery is and its performance as well. After those few days if you want you could just install any rom or kernel you want. You'll thank me later. Lol

thank you all so much! I really appreciate the answers. I will look into all three of those options for backing up my data! Thank you. and the internal sd card thing makes perfect sense so thank you for that explanation. You all have a good day!

[Q] Restore from nandroid

I've upgraded to 4.4.2 kitkat from 4.3.2. Prior to wiping and reformatting, I made a nandroid backup of everything including system. Now, in restoring, do I include the "system" that I see listed or will that muck up everything?
Thanks

If you include system it'll flash your old ROM back. And when you restore data of one android version over another not everything will work right sometimes. It's best to use titanium backup instead.
