For some functions on the phone it lets you choose which app you want to use to perform that function.
If you set one app to default, then change your mind, how do you change the default? You don't get the default choosing window anymore after you choose the default...
Go into settings, applications, manage applications, click on the app that is set to default, clear data.
For example, if you do that for adw and you run launcherpro by default, once you do that and press home, you now will get the option to set the app of your choosing to default.
Not Clear Data, but Clear Defaults
Yeah you're right. Tried to remember without using my phone. Got most of it right though.

Stopped using touch wiz and switched to launcherpro as my default home app, reduced lag by a lot
I first installed this program and deleted it. Well now I decided I want it back but it doesn't show up in my apps drawer. It shows up in settings under manage apps but still no way to set it as my default. I sent the dev an email but never got a response. What do I do?

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Apps. Then press Menu > List all apps. Fine "twlauncher" and clear defaults for it.

Go to Settings - Applications - Manage applications - Press menu button (left bottom) - select filter -select running - go down to the bottom TwLauncher - Click clear defaults - press home buttom.
It will ask you what you want to use as your default.
Delete and reinstall it and it should ask to set as default when you press home

Yeah, TouchWiz is quite lagly at the moment.
I use home switcher app to switch from touch wiz, launcher pro or ADW. Its a great app to switch home replacements quick.

Fantastic! Thanks
I use Launcherpro and I think it is the best home replacement... better than Open Home which I used in the past...
LauncherPro Plus is KING! Can't wait for it's new widgets within the next few weeks.
I tried making ADW Launcher my default launcher I navigated to settings/applications/managed applications/installed apps/ADW. Once I get to that screen I can not select it as a default because the the option isn't highlighted to select so how I do it? Thanks for your input in advance!

Try hitting the home hard button
Then the default home selection screen might show up
If it doesn't, there is a program in the DroidX forums called HomeSmack
You can use this to make ADW the default home app
And how do I get the Homesmack app? I'm trying the Homeswitcher app but after selecting adw as default and closing the app it doesn't save what I selected.

Go to manage applications and find your stock launcher and hit "clear defaults." Then you can hit your home button and select it from there. Hope this helps!

Also, with home switcher (which is what I use) are you selecting "set default" then "launch?" You're not supposed to close home switcher. When you hit launch it's supposed to close automatically and go to the launcher you selected.

if you are rooted - use root explorer and navigate to your system files in
/system/app
and rename "blurhome.apk" to "blurhome.apk.bak"
You will still have the file - it will just not be recognized anymore by the system when you give it the "backup" extension.
If you aren't rooted (you should be) -did you try the other version of Home Switcher? last time I checked there was a seperate version for froyo. You can try that (if you haven't).
If you are not rooted and you want to be here is a link for an app. You put it on your phone. Open it. Press either
temporary root (if you are nervous)
or
permanent root
the app is called "Z4root". you can google around and do some research if you want. I used it. It's very easy. But of course I make no guarantees and rooting does void your warranty and you could screw up your phone.
Z4root.apk
Zwade I navigated to the stock home launcher and I didn't have the option hilighted to choose "clear default" so I chose force close and cleared the data instead.

Zwade yes just as you described with homeswitcher that's what it does on my end but once I select adw via homeswitcher and the launcher opens I go back and open the homeswitcher app on the main screen it says I don't have a default selected shouldn't it save my prior setting?

I understand to do so, you need to go to the current default, and "Clear defaults". Right now I have my "Missed Calls" default application going to my default Phone app, but I used to get a popup that asked me. I didn't think I ever chose a default, but I installed Angel Dailer... I remember it prompted me.. then I installed Notigo to help clear the missed calls, but now, when I click "missed calls', I no longer get the popup on which application to chose. The "Clear Defaults" is greyed out for my Phone, and every dailer app I have. I can't find it at all. Hell, I went through practically every application, and I only found maybe one or two that I could even "clear defaults on", because I rarely check a default.
Any ideas? I read that if you uninstall the current default, then its next to impossible to clear, without re-installing that application. So maybe I somehow chose one and chose it as default... in my sleep.. or something...
Any ideas on how to deal with this? Or perhaps a way to determine the current default application... perhaps getting down into some file somewhere that has it all recorded?
Dialer storage?

Nope, no "clear defaults" on there either..
Install another app that does the same thing, and you'll get the choice again. Then uninstall the new one.

Yes...I had a similar issue. Here are a few suggestions.
1. If you can't clear it by going to the app in settings, try uninstalling/reinstalling. Before reinstalling..choose your default.
2. Try Default App Manager from the market. This app tells you all of your default apps and apps that does the same thing. It helps you clear and chose defaults in the app settings as well.
3. Download GO Dialer from the market (I used this method because I use GO Dialer). Whenever GO Dialer is updated or reinstalled, it'll automatically clear defaults, so this works well. When it asks if you want to use it as the default, choose the one you want then just uninstall GO Dialer.
4. Try freezing the unwanted app until you get your defaults like you want them. (I use Titanium for this.)
There was an option for the size of the photo you when you want to share via email. I set a default but I want to be able to send the original size file again. I tried resetting the gallery and camera defaults but that didnt let me choose the size again. Where do I re enable the option to select a photo size sending a photo?
Had this happen. You need to hold home button, select task manager, choose clear defaults tab, and clear the default settings for the specific app.

I tried with both gallery and email........ Still does the same thing.....
Ok, clearing the data wasnt fun, I had to redo all my email accounts. Clearly wasnt thinking when I did that.
But on the bright side, I found where to reset this to ask for the size of the photo when you send it from your gallery.
Mail app/settings/composing and sending/default image size
Uggg I hate making the simple things so difficult, but I seem to excel at that.
Oh well, hopefully this will help the next guy!
the Swipe to right during lockscreen, or the long press down key during lock screen
can it access other camera app instead of stock LG camera app?
I find the G2 camera app very slow, bad file naming (use number format instead of date) and lack of filters.
What if I uninstall the stock camera apk (rooted), will the OS ask me to choose another camera app instead? or simply crash the system

If you install another camera app, the next time you access the lockscreen or messaging cam you will be prompted to choose a default. No need to uninstall the stock camera.

I agree. But you can use which default camera should be selected all the time through the phones settings.

If you select "Always" when prompted then it will be the one always used.
If you want to change you go to the app list, open the properties of the currently defaulted camera app and "Clear defaults", that way the next time you swipe from the lockscreen you'll be asked to choose again.
Not very handy I agree but managing all defaults from the settings would be cumbersome anyway. Plus a lot of people don't really care about that so if you're down to that level of tweaking you probably can live with the available method.

That's true. Maybe we can look at some other ways to do this on rooted device. But for out of the box smartphones, this is only the option.
after multiple approach, seems like i only can use my desire camera app at lock screen IF the lockscreen is not code protected
After set up my pattern code, the lockscreen camera will always be the stock camera despite cleared default in app.
I guess it's a security reason, or the lock screen camera is actually a widget instead of a proper app, hence cannot be changed.
