OK so i was reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908451
and this might be a newb question: but how do i run this .zip with odin. He included some md5 code, but what do i do?
Also jsut checking, but this is the dl09 modem right and after flashing this, will i be able to install rom such as DL09 super clean 0.4 on it and after i install that rom, how do i know which themes work on that rom?
Thanks so much, trying to come out of newbhood, into haxorhood
PS Couldnt replly to thread so posting it here
If you don't know how to use it, you need to read more stuff about flashing roms etc, as there are instructions in several threads on how to flash files with Odin. If you can't figure out how to update, it is more likely that you'll end up bricking your phone than flashing it properly. In the end, if you can figure out how to flash it yourself, you'll learn invaluable information that could save you from future headaches or get you out of a jam.
Only odin .tar files there should only be one for dl09. the kernal and radio get flashed thru cwm hope this helps.

By the way there really isnt any themes for dl09. You can use dj05 themes if you flash theme fix for dl09 directly after flashing the dj05 theme.

i have a nandroid of ji6. do i just apply that and flash a ji6 kernal? can someone link me to one if so? if not, can someone explain how to do it? thanks.
I believe you have to ODIN the official JI6 release (you can find it in the dev forum). Then you have to root, install ROM Manager, and nandroid your way back to where you were.
The key is to Odin a Rom, any Rom, that has the JI6 kernel.
Odin JI6 and then nandroid.
Nandroid doesn't install the kernel, so you would end up with a "brick" if you tried to nandroid on a 2.2 rom.
thanks guys! loving obsidian so far, but i think i need the signal strength boost from ji6.
Nope, I was on Obsidian and just flashed straight back to Bionic Fusion through clockworkmod recovery (straight, not through ROM Manager), and then Core kernel on top of that. I'm running perfect apart from slow market downloads (mostly my fault I think--accidentally deleted some system apparently and then restored; downloads work, but fussy)

that's because bionix flashes the kernal along with the rom. nandroid doesn't. that is why i asked if i could just flash the ji6 kernel after restoring my nandroid.
ATTN: Don't give advice if you don't know what you're talking about.
On to the post:
You can feel free to nandroid or flash to/from anything. However, if your Obsidian install is like many other peoples, you probably can't do crap in recovery. In that case, you need to Odin. However, if your recovery does work, just flash the rom and the kernel (or just the rom, if the kernel is included)
OK ill give it a shot if I decide I don't like obsidian. Thanks.

By can't do crap do you mean can't flash or can't access clockwork mod? (I can boot into clockworkmod just fine)

Ah, sorry. I thought the issue was whether you have to ODIN back to stock in order to roll back from Froyo.
For me the safest was to ODIN JFD, then flash JI6.
hello,i just got the samsung epic today .coming from an htc hero, its a big difference. i love the hero though. anyway, why is it such a hassle to flash a ROM with this rom? u gotta do the odin n all this stuff. with the hero u just wipe n flash.dont get me wrong,im not coming at you guys angry or anything lol.but just wondering why u gotta do this odin thing instead of just wiping n flashing
Just the new leaks because clockwork doesn't flash modems.
If you look you can find a post with a flashable modem upgrade to dk28 but it breaks gps.

you don't have to odin, you can use CWM Recovery to flash a .zip.

oh ok.yeah just downloaded the ACS modem zip thing. ..hopefully there'll be a better/easier way to do this..right?
I was wondering how to flash the kernels on that forum. I did everything else and got it to work, but i don't know how to flash the kernel, because its not a zip file. please help! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869990
I assume youre talking about the modern tar file? It has to be flashed through odin for the fascinate. Read the instructions for flashing through odin that should be somewhere on these forums. make sure you follow the steps very carefully

Rename it to a zip file (put .zip at the end). Flash via CWM as normal. You can also access these kernels via Rom Manager.
Btw: this belongs in the general section.

Since im pretty dumb. I was wondering if it is safe to flash just my modem to KA7 in odin without anything else being flash into the phone. All i have selected right now is PHONE - C:\Users\myname\Downloads\PDA_KA7modem\modem.bin and nothing else. Nothing in pda or pit.
p.s. im currently running nero v5
There is a clockwork flashable one in the dev section.

To OP
Yes you just flash that modem.
I will be selling my phone soon so I will need to return it to the stock firmware it was on. I am currently on CM7, so how would I go about this? I know I need to use Odin, but I do check off anything in the program when I am flashing back? Thanks.
Can I use AIO toolbox to flash back to stock or will it not work? Thanks.
Search online for ODIN tutorials. There are plenty out there! You tube it. Have fun!

I know how to use Odin, I was just wondering if there are any special settings I need to put it in since I am on CyanogenMod7. Didn't find anything on youtube from flashing to stock from CM7 on vibrant. Thanks though.
Edit: Found I just need to check re-partition in Odin. Can I use AIO toolbox?

Just odin back to stock the same way as before. 512 pit file and the stock rom like jfd or jk6 i believe. I'm guessing you already installed the drivers for 2.3 so odin would recognize your phone? That's pretty much all you have to do.

The instructions mentioned checking off repartition which is what I did to get back, but other than that it was all good.
Ok thanks everyone!
