So, I've been having a lot of problems getting an activation code since they've been asking for the IMEI numbers. My question is, are the activation codes they generate phone specific? For example, I have access to a Dell Venue Pro. It's a sample. If I ask them for an activation code using the IMEI of the Dell (and telling them it's a Dell,) will the activation code work for the HTC HD2? Thanks for the help in advance.
i think it does not.
was same at biginning for me, but you have to get a assistant, a person at call to ask him.
I actually have the phone in front of me and I have the IMEI. I just want to make sure that if I get the code, I can use it for the HD2. No sense in me trying to get it if it won't work for my phone.
Well it wouldn't hurt to try. When I got my activation code for my HD2 I was told that I could use the code multiple times on the SAME PHONE which insinuates that it could be phone specific. I could be wrong though. Give it a try, you never know.
At first the phone activation code is not specific.
Activation Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928695
They need your name and your phone number (both must not be real), no IMEI.
After you get your code and enter it in your phone, it get's specific i think. It doesn't matter if you hardreset your phone, you can enter it as many times as you need it, but i think only on your phone...

Hey, for anyone that unlocked your HD2 through t-mobile, I was just wondering, how many digits was the unlock code they gave you? because I had my friend call T-mobile to ask for a unlock code for my HD2 even though I am not a customer of theirs (He is), and he gave them my imei number but didnt tell them that the imei was for an HD2, and he has a samsung phone, so this is what the email said
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Samsung device. For Unlock code you will enter the 8 digit code that we have provided you.
Enter: #7465625*638*Unlock Code#
NOTE: Network Personalization Cancelled should display once unlocked. "Not Yet Personalized" will be displayed if it has already been unlocked.
It is very important that the instructions are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.

so, could they have mistakenly sent me an unlock code for his phone even though they used my imei or its really the code for my phone
appreciate any help

Dude, You should've gotten 8 Digits from TMO for unlocking your HTC HD2. Also based on the email you have posted the code is for a Samsung. Your Email should've looked like this:
Unlock Code: 12345678
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. Thanks and Yes, I did get an 8 digit code, but the imei number i gave them in order to find the unlock code was from my htc HD2, but TMO thinks i am trying to unlock the samsung phone, but they mustve found the code in the system based on the imei number is what I'm asking. I am going to try it on my phone later on, but I just wanted to ask this before I tried
Just be careful when you enter the code coz the instructions for entering it is very different from what i have. If it didn't work once don't try it again. Good Luck!
what is the amount of tries you have on the HD2 before it locks permanantly?
ok so I just found out that the code they gave me was actually for the samsung phone, it was a good thing that I didnt use it
i just saw a lot websites that unlock tmob hd2 for 30-40$. can we really trust them. i mean does the unlock code which they send work well and stabile. and which one you know we can trust?
thanks...
you can request the lock code from tmobile but you also need a sim card from other carrier or the one you going to use. once you place the sim card(can be from att) a screen appears to enter the lock code. thats all.
actually it's my friend's phone and he maybe called t-mobile 10 times. they send a unlock code but it didn't work. he called them many time again but they still didn't send anything... that's why i'm looking for a web site i can trust...

If he's a legitimate T-Mobile customer, they're required by law now to provide him with a working unlock code upon request. It sometimes takes them a little while to send it, what did they tell him when he told them the first one didn't work?
i just found htc-unlocker.org they are really fast and the code worked perfect. i just paid 19.99$. but be carefull if you want to pay by paypal because paypal send money 2-3 days late so they send you code when they receive money... i got a problem about it but by e-mail we solved the problem...
unlock code

Actually, you can make that code entry window pop up even without another carrier's SIM, just run "SIMlock.exe" from your windows folder.
Just telephoned the UK microsoft for activation, tel 0844 800 2400
Any they told me that they can't issue an activation code, I would have to call the phone provider.
What do I do now ?

I activated mine via that number fine couple of days ago. Try a few times, yo may get a operator that will do it.
If they keep saying that, its likely that they have changed policy so that you have to contact HTC directly, If that's the case you are **** out of luck and will not be able to activate your phone.
Just tried again, spoke to another operator and they have been told not to give out any more activation codes, I have to contact my phone provider o2...
So I guess that's me dropping windows phone, shall go back to android, bloomin ridiculous
You could always try the Zune help line they do activations aswell had to speak to them the other day about my HD7 but they did take my IMEI number. Maybe worth a shot?
+44 (20) 3450-5855
Just tried the UK microsoft line again, now I have tried 5 times with five different people, THEY ARE NO LONGER SUPPLYING ACTIVATION CODES
Also tried the Zune, blimey they take a long time to get through, anyway, they are not allowed to give out activation codes
SO PLEASE developers, what are the options here ?
This is really annoying as I actually rather like windows phone amazingly
ive tried twice with two different names and makes of phones to two different people and they told me to phone the handset maker for the activation code.
The bad thing is theres a few people who got a code the other day but have gone back to android so there codes are not being used. PM me if thats you!
How can you use someone else's code ?
IF YOU CAN PLEASE SEND ME ONE IF YOU DONT LIKE WP7
it would be good to know what HTC actually say in regards to activation codes as i thought its would be a Microsoft thing.
The whole activation code system imo is absolutely pathetic. Its locking your phone down just like the iPhone does.....

This is kind of the point! Each WP7 'authentic' device has a certificate on it to make it 'authentic', if a device is not manufactured with WP7 on it as standard or is distributed by an OEM before the certs are registered with MS then there is no certificate for it....which is why it asks for activation...quite simple really.
I got my code this morning from the US activations number. A very friendly girl called Rachael took my name, Windows Live ID my *FAKE* IMEI number, mobile number, postcode and country details and 15 mins later I had a code.
In my case the code only works if you do the registry changing prior to activation but have had no issued at all so far and am quite liking the new lease of life my HD2 has now, will be great to dual boot with Android.
i got mine through persistence, it makes this phone way better!

Who did you phone, what number...what do you ask for, what option do you choose when on the phone menu ????
I phoned this morning and got through straight away and the guy gave me an activation code straight away (I quoted this if it helps http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2431699)
The number I used 0844 800 2400 and selected option 2 then option 7.

I phoned Microsoft this morning (17th) and the person said right away to contact my service provider because there not giving out codes, phones back at 11:00am another took my name, email address and mobile number, minutes later he said to contact service provider, I phoned o2 and they said they know nothing of this, he even checked the web for me and said he had no idea other than to call Microsoft, so I phoned them back at 11:30 and person took name, email and phone number, asked if it was the hd7 and I said yes, minutes later a got a activation code, I put it in using cap locks and didn't work so tried lowercase and it worked fine, don't listen to Microsoft if they say no or tell you to phone HTC or your service provider, there talking crap
Hope this helps all Uk users
I just told them that ive tried speaking to htc and o2 and they were saying it was down to microsoft so the guy on the phone said ok and gave it me via an email.
you can get codes by phone and Email
This morning i thought that there was no chance of getting my HD2/7 working with Live but I emailed asking a for an activation code via Microsoft support any way
I didn't think this would happen so I followed BrannanD's instructions and called MS quoting the support webpage etc
The operator asked for phone no and an email address and then told me my activation code and it is all working fine.
As soon as my phone had activated and had installed its hotmail app, I received an email reply from MS for the activation code i asked for online this morning.
Try everything IT WILL WORK!!

Hi what was the URL / email address you used?
WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO, after my lucky number 7 attempt, I got a bit shirty and said, I have been back and forth from HTC to o2 back you...
Now my phone is activated, let the good times roll, thanks for your help people
Yes it pays to keep on at them! Lucky enough I have not had any problems with the UK, and Just got my second set emailed too.
Russ
I have actually rang up Microsoft now 5 times and got my activation code from the first call with no problems at all. Trouble is when I enter the activation code it comes back with this message:
Problems with server
We are really sorry, but we've run into a problem, and we are not sure what caused it. This might be a tempory issue that will be fixed if you try again later, but if you keep seeing this error and want to call support, here's an error code that ight help them figure out the problem: error code 0xFFFFFFEC.
I figured I would give Microsoft another call and now they are saying there is a problem with my phone and to contact HTC.
I called on this mobile friendly number which I got from www.saynoto0870.com, 01954 713950.
Well, basically, I contacted MS Chat support through a Hotspot Shield proxy, I'm an UK user and used an US mobile number and fake email address, didn't give out any information other than those two things.
I wasn't asked for a model number, not HTC, HD7 or any thing, no IMEI number, and so on. What I've learned today is a mistake everyone else is making when activating the HD2 is that they are telling MS that they have a HD7. The activation code is universal for all WP7 phones so it wouldn't matter if you said it was an HTC phone or an LG one, it's the same thing.
What's everyone elses view? Should people be more smarter and give a different model number next time rather than making Microsoft suspicious by saying you have a HD7?
Edit: Also, I apologise if there is already a thread on this, if so, close this one and point me in the right direction.
dude waste thread ..
every body know all of these .. that happened is your luck
random question asked .. you may got a beginner ...
Yeah, I didn't say HD7, I just said my windows phone 7 is asking for an activation code and I can't seem to find it.
some times they ask which make .. what model , IMEI etc ...in that case normally every body do disconnect the call ... i did twice
me i dont have that problem my activation code works every time i flash
Thing is, I see _alot_ of people telling MS they have a HD7, why don't they say they have another type of phone rather than get Microsoft suspicious?
I don't think it's people saying that they have an HD7 that makes them suspicious, it's the fact they are asking in the first place....when you buy a windows phone you don't need the code, it's only when you hard reset etc that you have to enter one....so whether or not you say HD7 doesn't really make any difference.....if you're in the uk and they tell you to "contact your regional service center (sic)" you just tell them you already have and they told you since you bought the phone in the US you should contact them.

Going to try this.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Quick question...I read a lot about the code and asking for it as well as that IF too many people use the same code they have a problem. The question is...what is a friend has a HTC 7 Trophy that's already activated and then phones in for a code...if they as for the IMEI number give that phones number. Will they lose their previous code and have to use the new one given or are the free one free to use for another phone. In other words...the live id is someone else's when asking for the code but in-case details are requested a current phones details are given...if all that makes sense
Hi guys,
I'm starting a new topic because the only information I could find was from 1 or 2 years ago, before Sprint started giving unlock codes after Feb. 2015.
I recently ported my number to T-Mobile and was unable to unlock my device before my service was severed. Now I am stuck in a rut and cannot get service on EITHER network.
After running around all day, trying to get Sprint stores to help, calling customer service, etc... I was finally able to chat with a Customer Service rep, pay my ETF balance (it had not been posted yet, I asked to pay early). After that, the rep gave me the 6 digit unlock code. I tried punching in *#0011# but I cannot access a menu, it just flashes
MENU NOT EXIST
PRESS BACK KEY
CURRENT COMMAND IS 1111
After that it just displays "No service".
The phone did not acknowledge the T-Mobile SIM at all. I did a network restore code (I forget the dial code) and now it says Invalid SIM Card- so, it knows the card is there.
I cannot get it to a point where it asks for the MSL number.
Can anyone please help? I'm tearing my hair out here.
Thanks,
-Tory
If anyone is going through this same problem, please see this thread and my experience doing this manually, starting with post 1456.
Don't despair! It's a huge pain to go through this if you're only a recreational Android user (like me), but it can be done if you do your homework and follow the steps slowly.
Thanks be to the board, and the people on it.
