Just wanting to see if anyone else has issues with these two items.
On DJ05, Super Dark V1, just moved to 01/23 VooDoo5 W/VooDoo Sound, but had same issue with previous 12/17 Adrynalyne Test 2 ULV Kernal.
The YouTube application will fail to open (force close) unless you first go into app manager and clear cache/data. Once you do this you can open YouTube and do your thing, but once you close the application you can not return unless you again clear the cache/data.
The Vcast Video application (that I pay for and love!) does not connect. You try to open and the VCAST emblem comes up saying connecting, and then you get an error saying "NO DATA" and you have to leave.
Is there something that "V" did when the DL09 OTA happened that prevents us DJ05 users from getting into Vcast?
Anything known about that annoying Youtube cache/data issue?
Thanks for any help.

*GO STEELERS!*
Yes, that Youtube issue is pretty common. I suppose it has to do with the fact that the Youtube app was taken from a newer version. I remember someone saying that the way they got rid of the same issue was by Odining. Anecdotally, I Odin my phone all the time, and while the force closes always come back, it's never been something that happens on every app use as with you. :\
As for your Vcast issue, DJ05 was killed before it saw the light of day, and I speculate that it was because it didn't like playing nice with the VZ apps. To be honest, I doubt there are many others in this part of the Internet who use Vcast. I would suggest considering the sidegrade to DL09.
Comradesven,
Are there any major drawbacks on the DL09 vs the DJ05, as far as are there defects within the coding that would cause me other/new issues, or are the problems within the DL09 minor gripes?

I guess the other viable question would be: Should I upgrade the ROM, Kernal or Radio... all of them.... or one of them?
My guess is that the DL09 .tar file (radio) would have nothing to do with this.
The ROM and Kernal well may have something blocking my access to vcast.
Since I am having a dandy swell time on DJ05, would you agree that I not ODIN in the .tar, and rather I CWM in the kernal only and see what I get?
Man.... I hate this! I love the way this thing (the phone as a whole) is working right now in every OTHER way but these two things... If I start to change stuff, I may find new things that grate at me.... Sometimes you start to slide down a slippery slope when you fix one thing and break 2 others.
Don't log in to youtube and it won't force close when you re-open it.

Agreed, I've had this same issue with DJ05, and closing the app while logged in seems to be the trigger for me. If I open the app without being logged in - then login to access my account and then logout before closing the app the problem does not seem to reoccur.

I'm having only one serious problem with my Vibrant, and while it's a little problem, it's frequent enough that it is driving me nuts, and also doesn't allow me to use (at least) one of the apps I use every day.
The issue is, when I go to some web sites, whether in the stock browser, or in another browser, like Skyfire, or whether it's in the browser within an app (for example NewsRob articles) I get a psuedo-crash where it opens the stock browser and says:
In a pop up box: "Problem with file The requested file was not found. webkit/"
In the browser window itself: The Web page at file://android asset/webkit/ could not be loaded as: The requested file was not found. webkit/
In the address bar: the same url as above.
If I hit back a couple times, it will take me back to whatever content I am looking at. But this is incredibly annoying when it's half the articles I'm trying to go through on NewsRob, or when I click certain links and it comes up and I have to hit back a few times before I can look at the page.
I have noticed the following:
- it seems to happen on pages that use Flash, it might be javascript as well, but I'm not sure. HOWEVER, disable plug-ins and javascript in the browser setting does not change the error from happening.
- thinking that it has to do with Flash, I looked into it more on the device. I noticed in Applications, it shows Flash listed, as well as Pineone Flash lite" so I don't understand what level of flash the phone has.
- I also noticed that (coming from a Nexus One and myTouch Slide) I don't see thumbnails for a lot of flash video content like on those devices. If I got to sites with Flash content that is not a video, it's just not there.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be much obliged.
I searched google and found almost NOTHING, which is shocking and makes me think perhaps a hard reset would fix it, but I'd really rather not have to re-set up my phone if it's not going to help.
The only thing I found online was that apparently some Droid X owners are having the same issue.
Anyway, any help would be great.
I have the same issue and just assume that samsung modified the browser so it broke whatever plugin its trying to access. The problem is any articles in newsrob that have an embedded video.

But I've found that it's any link from anywhere that leads to a page that has a video. Which is immensely annoying.
any other ideas? does anyone else have this issue?
Captivate too
My Captivate has same issue. Thought I had broken the phone rooting, enabling sideloading,or hiding the bloatware.
My guess is it's probably related to flash lite 3 which is a plugin preinstalled on the vibrant. I'm going to assume that this problem will disappear once froyo rolls out.

I'm getting the same problem as well on my Samsung Captivate. Very annoying since more than half my articles have links to videos in them.

I tried removing the flash files from /system/app and rebooting. It still happened. Disabling plugins in the browser doesn't help either. Irritating as hell, I sure hope CM6 or the official 2.2 release come out soon and fix this. And the GPS, compass, etc..
I had the same issue with Dolphin Browser HD, but I haven't had the issue yet with the stock Vibrant browser.
Does anybody have any insight on this? It's still plaguing my newsrob whenever there is an embedded video in the feed.
It's a problem with flash lite files. The vibrant has trouble with its implementation.
Not sent from my Vibrant using XDA App 'cause I returned it.
I hate to make froyo this holy messiah but will froyo fix that as well?
I'm actually hoping froyo literally cures cancer.
Btw, I'm on a Captivate, but this topic wasn't in that forum. I thought it would be relatively universal though.
So my wife and myself both have the Fascinate. Both are running JT's 1.2 Kernel, both running LauncherPro, similar apps, etc.
She's been IMing me this morning letting me know that her phone is running really really slow, like it takes more than a few seconds for her to type keys for a text message.
I've had her do a couple restarts and battery pulls, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything yet.
Until I get home to check it out and see what's going on, is there anything I should look into that would cause such crappy performance?
Thanks in advance.
Autokiller doesn't seem to play nicely sometimes, if you have that installed.
(The lowmemkiller tweaker, not task killer).

I have it on mine, it might be on her's, i'll tell her to uninstall it if she does have it.
I have no issues with mine so far though, that i know of.
Did she reset the slider in setcpu to 1200 after reboot?
Just a silly question: not using the setcpu widget is she?

she isn't, and it's set to boot. that was something I was going to look at when I got home, but unless she did something to change it from set on boot, it should be fine.

Yea, until I can actually get the phone's in my hands, I have no idea. There is a chance she might have downloaded or installed something that caused her phone to wig out, she probably would have told me if she did though.
I also won't know more until she starts texting me back too. lol
You're running the voodoo kernel right? If so, the general consensus here is that the build of Voodoo that's in the currently released kernels (like JT's 1.2), slows down with use. I saw this myself. It negated most of the performance benefit of voodoo with time.
A temporary solution, is to wipe cache. I normally did a wipe davlik and normal cache, thru CWM. That speeds it up again, until it slows down, or so it seems... Hard to get definite answers on most of this stuff that don't go over my head.

There are a lot of factors that go into performance, and slow is something I refuse to tolerate. Lol. I don't know what your comfort level is with the various processes, but if I were unable to find the culprit, I would probably rebuild.
This would mean complete voodoo uninstall via adrenalynes thread instructions, and Odin to stock.
Reroot
Apply CWM
Either remove all unwanted bloatware, or just install one of the several roms. I'm running Jt's super clean without issue.
Theme and mod if desired
Once you're situated to your content, Voodoo. I recommend making that the last step.
I run SetCPU on custom, specific to the kernel you're using, and use Juice Defender beta, autorunkiller and auto killer with and aggressive main profile and an ultimate secondary.
I do also make it a habit to reboot once a day, just because Android in general seems to like that.
I don't tend to keep any touchwiz I don't use, including the launcher. It's bulky in and of itself. It can be replaced by dropping your launcher of choice in the /system /app directory, and then freezing, renaming, or removing it.
I know this isn't a correct response to your initial question, but there are so many factors that could be causing your issue, I thought I would share what works for me. Until I occasionally decide to experiment and bork my phone, this process always gives me a perfectly smooth, incredibly responsive device with no FC, lag, slow down, or other issues, and battery is at least 16 hours of high use.
My GF kept her touchwiz launcher, widgets, and wallpapers, but otherwise has the same set up, and she's been running liquid smooth for a month.
If your problem goes away after installing something, disregard this post. Lol. Every device is a little different.

This happened to me a few times with my Incredible. It was enough of a pain that i ended up uninstalling it and my phone stopped having mysterious slow downs.
I'm hoping my Fascinate has better luck with over-clocking than the incredible did... SetCPU makes me miss Govnah and the uberkernel from my Pre+
On DK28, I get random lock ups (requiring a battery pull) and reboots.
I flashed DK28 after a full wipe, then Ti'ed all the apps back (I have an Evo with almost exactly the same apps and set up with no problems).
I use Autostart to keep non-necessary apps from starting, it is not a low-memory issue.
I know I can wipe and go full stock, or remove apps one at a time, but that is not the point of this post.
I would like to know if there are system logs or troubleshooting tools that can potentiallly identify which process, service, or application that caused the hang. Does the device perform a memory dump? Can it be debugged? I'm very curious about what is happening at the moment of the lock-up so I can address it properly.
Thanks.
Im having the same issues. But this only started happening after I flashed the dk28 modem. I was running the dk17 modem fine without dk28 toms. So im not sure why the devs were saying we NEEDED to use the dk28 modem. My gps and everything was working fine. Im going to try and downgrade back

do you happen to have the DK17 AOSP lock screen? That was my issue and the new version cleared it up.

Not here. I have full DK28 ROM & radio. I'm using pattern lock (which is AOSP) that disables Samsung's lock screen.
There's 2 apps I've used to check out what's going on behind the scenes in the logs (both free on market):
OS Monitor: I use to check out the load of each process/service. You can also drill down to watch the logs of a specific one realtime and filter results by severity.
ALogcat is another useful app that gives you all of the logs lumped together- useful if you want to look and see what happened at a specific point in time.
You can export the logs out of both apps. Hope that helps

Yeah, not sure if I was clear. I have the DK28 rom and radio, but the aosp lock I was using was for dk17 and it would cause random soft reboots. Finding the updated aosp for dk28 fixed my problem. There is a thread in the theme section with the updated aosp lock screen.

Thanks. I have both apps, but not sure if I can go back and read the logs after a boot. Do you know if there is an error log or crash dump when the phone locks up/reboots?

Twice recently, my phone saw a hard lock-up mid-texting. I had to do a battery pull. Based on that, I'm not sure if the lock screens apply to me.
I'm hoping that Samsung/Sprint will release the final soon. These random lockups are driving me nuts.
Kind of a pointless post but if anyones interested heres my observations thus far from flashing the three things i listed below. I'm really enjoying it overall. So I dont know which has the problems.. I have DJ05 modem, Stock DJ05 rom unrooted, and geeknik superfast (always current) test release kernal.
Tetris is broken no matter what I do... (I paid for it :'c ) tried restoring it with titanium... installing with the apk from my friends phone / putting the apk in the apps folder... and even downloading the similar one from the apps market. No go they either dont show up or freeze on boot up. i loved that version of tetris! QQ
V. Visual voicemail, for some reason when my face gets close to the sensor it turns off my visual voicemail. so ?I can only use it with speakerphone and face up. I know google voice does the same thing, I like VVM.
Swype... when I correct a word it will one in five times put the corrected word at the end of the paragraph instead of replacing the highlighted word. cant figure out why
as for the good. reception seems more reliable... 3g seems more reliable... phone feels faster... battery lasts longer... gps works properly... life is good
one day when we get proper flash, i will be truly happy!
Very odd regarding swype, mine worked perfectly after DJ05 update. JT's new clean DJ05 has the updated swype, you should install that and see if it fixes your problem. Good luck
Can someone check a possible bug for me, go to either email\gmail click on settings and then click on select ringtone, do you get a FC?

New Swype
new Market
new contact

Launcher pro Plus
Life is GOOD!!!
My Fascinate Solid
Next Move - 2.2 / 2.3 Rooted
everything works great for me ...when I installed dj05 modem then got to the clockwork menur when to the partion menu before flashing & I mounted the system data then the flashed super clean v.9 rom with stupid fast oc kernel evything works fine dont know about VVW cant stand it bloat ware swyp A ok
"It works fine for me as long as I have previously enabled the Email notifications check box."
I second that.
Dj05 actually solved some really weird shutdown/startup behavior I had.
A lot of times I'd power down my phone and it would start right back up again... sometimes it would take a really long time or just freeze powering down. Weird stuff like that........ all fixed
I think geekniks has the updated swype as well because its different... there seems to be more spacing between the letters. swype in general is being really weird. I might try JT's...... I think geekniks is built off JTs though
not sure.
Overall, I'm loving DJ05. I have 2 problems so far, both minor.
Video player and My Uploads FC on boot up (solved this by deleting both, lol)
A large portion of pages loading using the stock browser are loading between half to 3/4 and then hanging.
I am running myns warm 2.2 rls 5 and from what I have read researching this problem is that this probably has to do with the feature that disables ads.
Can anyone confirm is this is my problem? If so, how do I fix it?
Thanks
I was seeing the same thing in Austin, TX yesterday. The problem persisted in Warm and Miui, even after reprovisioning. I think it was a Sprint data problem. All is well today.
It's the adfree app that's pre-loaded. Evidently, there has been an update that didn't run because it's preloaded. Get Adfree from the Market, install, open, hit revert. Worked for me. Later on, I went back in to the app and hit update just to see and it still works. No ads and running just as snappy as always. Hope that helps you.
If you want to stop it altogether, there is instructions in Myn's thread. Somewhere in the last 50 pages or so.
Also seeing this in Austin TX with Sprint Lovers. I guess it seems like a service issue. I'm still seeing it today.

This was the problem, thanks a lot. I am fixed.
Good luck to you guys in TX.
I'm still having that issue as well on RLS5...but I also have an issue with mobile data just disconnecting and the icon disappearing even though mobile data always on is checked. I think I need to reflash the rom. Any other suggestion anyone?
I wanted to say I'm in Austin and my phone was doing the same thing and my girlfriends wasn't, my phone is rooted(latest sprint lovers) and hers is not, and yes it was the ad free. I did the above recommendation and it is snappy again. Thx
Im having the same issue with RLS 5 (was about to post a new thread ). I'll try the recommended fix above to see if that makes a difference. It makes sense based on how my browser seems to be loading, some pages its fine, other pages, like news sites with a lot of ads, it will usually hang for a long time or not load fully. Ill report back results.
Seemed to work for me. If I uninstall AdFree now, will it remove it from the ROM altogether or will it still be hardcoded into Myn's ROM and Ill run into the same problem again?
FYI this was also KILLING my HULU app. It would either take forever to load, or just load a white screen. I thought Flash was hosed. But seems to be fine now.
