Oh...wow...Sprint removed it that quick....It basically stated that Sprint has removed or is in the process of removing the quote about the Evo is better than the iphone, in it's commercials. So the article speculated that maybe Sprint is in talks with Apple about possibly bringing the iphone to Sprint. It also stated that this was the same process that Verizon went through...they first made these commercials going against the iphone/att, then they stopped and now they have the iphone.
Awesome, I'm one of the ones that would actually like an iPhone on Sprint.
All the plan changes make sense as well, but it could be for something else.

The iPhone is out on manyyy carriers in other countries, and it looks like HTC is doing just fine.
Htc was in business way before the iphone was released so they'll be ok.

So now all of us customers who were/are loyal to Sprint are getting screwed over with all these new plans/perk changes because they want to bring the damn iPhone to the network. Great.
I did notice the iPhone thing gone from the ad, but I dont think apple will release the iphone on sprint. I suppose they could, it just doesnt seem likely to me and this is not much to base an assumption on
It's coming. Since Verizon has a CDMA iPhone, Sprint will have it as well. Apple needs to get that darn phone on as many carriers as possible since they are being hammered by Android phones on ALL major carriers. It makes good business since for Apple, Verizon & Sprint BUT not us customers since it raises our plans and Sprint will eventually goto a tiered data plan instead of unlimited like Verizon did. It's just a matter of time. They make money, we grab our ankles

At least someone understands how businesses work. It will come soon trust me. They are basically taxing us so they could prepare for the iPhone and build out their network. For all you know they could be doing field trials now with the iPhone.
If it comes to Sprint then I'm definitely getting one. You can't argue that Apple did something right. They have an excellent product and apps to back it up.

Verizon is on tiered data plans and Sprint is still simply unlimited yet you think Sprint will go to tiered instead of staying unlimited like Verizon? Why do you think Sprint is adding the $10 to all smartphones? To stay unlimited and not make some BS 25-200MB plan.

Just read over on Engadget how Sprint lost $760 million last quarter. Why do you think they continually do so bad? Is it because of poor sales or poor business/financial decisions (debt left over from merger or otherwise)? Their coverage is awesome, their 3G speeds are often better than Verizon's, they have 4G on tap, customer service has never given me any trouble, I can upgrade my phone annually, and the plans offer way more features and are still cheaper than the competition. The list is endless, there's really no other carrier I'd rather be on. Do others not feel the same way? Is their marketing failing?
I feel the same way. Their advertisements always seem good. I feel like they don't advertise as heavily as any of the other carriers here.
Maybe from all the expanding and changes they've done? Don't know though. I haven't had any problems at all. Their customer service always corrects problems, even crediting a lot of charges back.. and coverage is good. A lot happier then I was with at&t

I'm sure the cost of upgrading to 4G has a lot to do with it. Plus I am ripping them off with my unlimited everything for $65 a month!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.
It wasnt until recently that they had good phones. I remember a few years back, most of their phones were garbage. Everyone jumpped ship and moved to ATT due to the fact that you could pull the sim card, and switch phones as you pleased. All the phones from Asia were flocking over to the US and everyone had some new Nokia, Ericson, or some other great phone.
Sprint had junk. Some of us probably rode that out, and FINALLY they are getting some good phones...I've been on Sprint for almost 12 years now. I did move to VZW for 2 years, but ended up coming back to Sprint.
makes you wonder how they are even sustainable loosing that type of money every quarter.
The Nextel merger is STILL hurting them badly. Plus, they offer the cheapest plans but for the longest time they did not have the devices people wanted. Now they have the devices but people are stuck in contracts with other carriers. Another thing is advertisement and word of mouth. Sprint has never had the most eye-catching commercials. Us former Palm Pre users know the effect bad or no advertisement can hurt you. And I agree, the Nascar thing is wasted money when you have to spend more money rolling out 4G nationwide.

IMO. 4g is great and all, but if you live in an area with 4g coverage, you probably already have good 3g coverage. I'd rather just use 3g because I've noticed 4g is a major drain on battery life.
You, I admit, I did not read the article fully, I was trying to do breaking news.. lulz apologies!
Yeah, I saw that too the other day. Not only did they get the prices wrong for the plans but they say the $10 fee is for the 4G even though that is not what Sprint says it is for.
The same day this article came out another one talking up the iPhone and AT&T showed up...
I thought they were fair and balanced.
Foxnews is the worst they always lie, I just don't know why so many people follows what they say!! even though most of the time they are wrong!!
Their pricing is way off! Before I rooted this month my bill was $119.00 for the EVO with 4g charge and hotspot tethering.

While I don't really like fox news, they didn't really lie about plan pricing. The said "full plan" which, to me, implies sprint's "simply everything" plan, which is $100.00. Plus $30.00 for hotspot, plus $10.00 for "premium feature" (which we all know is 4G...) that brings a monthly bill to $140.00.
I personally pay $80.00 like I'm sure a lot of others do as well, the everything data 450. Who needs the simply everything plan... landlines are SO 2009. (Lol)

How are they lying? Which phones get charged $10 premium fees? The Evo 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G. Hmmmm........only two phones with 4G. The only reason Sprint does not state that you pay $10 for 4G because other people in areas that dont have 4G would not have to pay.
even if 4g phones on sprint cost $10 more a month, its still cheaper than [email protected] or verizon for an equal plan. AND we have truly unlimited data, v and a dont
imo 4g is not over hyped. its ****ing fast.
also, I think buying a new device for new technology is not so outrageous, at all. Apple does it all the time, heck, their first phone didnt even have 3g... lol if you buy a new hd cam and your computers graphic card just isnt up to par, you need a new one, same with everything else, if you want the latest of one side of tech, you need the latest on the other side as well. and thats a common know fact. suck it up fox

Granted by the time I retire, there won't be enough money going into medicare to cover people. xD

Hm well what are my options:
Big Red: The iPhone (metaphor for popular, expensive and useless) of the mobile service provider industry is actually getting an iPhone (the popular, expensive and useless phone from wence the metaphor came). They're still big, popular, expensive and useless. Can't go there, next...
AT&T: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, omg *wipes tears from eyes*, haha yea right...next.
T-Mobile: Is the down syndrome-stricken child of the service provider world. They have okay phones, okay service but I haven't talked to a customer service rep yet who wasn't on their 2nd day of English-As-A-Second-Language classes yet and they have no resiliancy. I told one of them that they aren't American so they have no soul. She broke down and cried on the phone. For real, I was just angry, angry at their terrible, scripted, idiot customer service.
If I had to go anywhere it'd be back to T-Mobile, at least they have an unlimited text AND unlimited data plan that doesn't throttle you after 1 or 2GB of usage. I just need to make sure that I NEVER need customer service again. Prepare for your call to be routed to India.
The only way we are going to bring the ball back into the consumers court is we all stop signing contracts.
AT&T is going to be changing their texting plans effective Jan. 23rd. They are getting rid of $5 200 txt plan and $15 1500 txt plan. The only plans they are going to have is $10 1000 txt and $20 unlimited. It seems like all carriers are making changes at the same time.
I got rid of AT&T and won't be going back. I'll stick with Sprint.

I really want to drop the carriers and ise VOIP or something else. I'm on wifi nearly everywhere I go. Do I really give a crap if I don't get a text while driving? Not really. We'll see, though. If I can make it work, I'm done letting these bastards rob me. I usually pay full price for my phones anyway.
Oo yeah I forgot to mention that AT&T is going to discontinue activation of customer owned equipment at no contract. You won't be able to activate a phone that you own with no contract. They are basically going to force people to be on contracts.

I'm probably jumping to Verizon so my wife can get an Iphone later in the year. We have three lines and one doesn't use data so that will make things actually cheaper for us because my wife has a discount through Verizon (I currently have one on SPrint)
The other thing that interests me is the Unlimited Data only plans through Tmobile. They are only 50 dollars a month and I'm wondering how good calls through Google Voice would be...if the quality isn't that bad I could just use that (since they now let you port your number to them)

Oh **** yeah very good idea.. using tmobiles VOIP... Interesting.
I luckily get a 25 or 27% discount thru sprint. I cannot remember which one it is. Gotta love job discounts.
I have been with Sprint for 10 years. I am ready to purchase a 4G device. It is between the Evo4g on Sprint & the myPhone 4G with T-Mobile. Based on the device, and reception/coverage area will dictate which carrier I go to. The price point is basically the same. About $10 per month more with Sprint.
T-Mobile is an unknown regarding coverage and Sprint is a known.
I had 2 lines on a Free & Clear, but to switch to a 4g, I would lose that plan, and I would have to drop the 2nd line as no plan available by Sprint for 2 lines is cost effective for me. Neither is one available from T-mobile.
After 10 years, I really have no allegiance to Sprint as Allegiance with any Company these days is non existent, for me anyway, and from them to me, and others for that fact.
BUT I have read that T-Mobile may be locking their devices regarding tethering, as they are charging $!4.99/mo as of now, and may lock the devices for free tethering. I don't tether often, but I would like the option to do so.
Sprint charges the $10 surcharge for the privilege.
Doesnt really matter to me, only thing im waiting to see is if Verizon is going to put a data cap on their LTE for their smartphones. If they dont im ghost.
Why brah? Sprint doesnt... Or are you chasing the new phones merely.
I'd assume this is because LTE is faster and from what I gather has a more promising future.. probably coverage expansion will be better, etc.
Wouldn't count on avoiding a cap though, and F if i'm going to pay what vzw wants for "unlimited" as compared to sprint.
Where I work and spend a huge chunk of my life these days, I get full 4G and use it to tether all my computers, more than fast enough for what I need, and I think staying with this contract will be smart over time. As long as all these companies continue their greedy practices, the value of the plan I'm on will continue to get better IMO.
When I'm month to month in a year and a half paying what I'm paying now for unlimited, I bet I won't want to switch. I'm not that concerned about getting a new phone.. I tend to hold onto my phones for a pretty long time anyway. With the dev support the EVO has (and considering it does everything I want & more anyway) I think I can get a lot of mileage out of my current situation. If I really decide I NEED a new phone somewhere down the line, I'll buy it outright and stick with what will be a cheap plan at that point

I just read about this on the Washington Post. What are yall thoughts regarding a merger between T-mobile and Sprint?
Washington Post Article
Personally, I think it sucks. Not sure how it could benefit the consumer, or the manufacturers... I don't like the idea of there only being 3 big players.... I dont like the idea of GSM/CDMA joining... not even sure how that would work.
Nothing seems beneficial....
This Will Not Be Good,
for 1, which system are they really going to end up using ? Sprint is CDMA my Bet this will be bad for the consumer
Mergers like these inevitably only benefit the Company not the consumer. Ever notice that when one company raises prices the other do so as well? The only "hold mechanism" that prevents this is rigorous competition. When there is only a duo or tri-opoloy then corporate price fixing becomes a sure thing. Remember when (maybe most are not old enough) cable TV was 10 major players, Now ? 3, and what happened as a result of all the mergers and acquisitions ? higher prices and less selection.
On another note : Do you remember SamsungJohn ? and his Great announcement, I wonder if this is it. If it is .........we're getting HOSED..............
I think its very good. as long as they provide the same plan after merger
anyways, Sprint is starting 4g rollout, which is nice for future.
Rooted Samsung Vibrant with Froyo KA6
Recovery: ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.2
Radio/Modem: KA6
Kernel: Stock+Voodoo
I heard about that a while ago too. Then there would be "the big three ". The question that comes to mind is, how does that benefit us? lower bills? Better phones? Better network?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Be assured this isn't about what's best for the customers. It's about what's best for the companies staying profitable.
I don't see any personal benefit from it.
Most likely they'll keep the GSM and CDMA networks and gradually migrate everyone over to LTE.
Yeah, there is NO WAY this benefits the consumer. Likely less high-end phones (dont need as many rollouts/marketing involved)... less need for prices to stay low (since if all 3 started raising prices, the consumer has no choice).
I cant articulate just how much I hate the idea of it.

Yeah I've been hearing these rumors for over a year now.
Don't take away the great plans or SIMs and maybe we'll be good.
Oh no, Sprint just likes to ruin my mobile life I remember a few years back when I got my first Nextel and discovered Howard Forums. I loved my Nextels and learned to make some good money selling customized Nextels & parting out the LE phones. Then the rumors came about the Sprint Nextel merger. They destroyed Nextel. I went back to TMobile and now this again! Capitalism at it's best.
Lets see, best customer satisfaction? T mobile
Best prices? T mobile
Acceptable service? T mobile
Family friendly plans? T mobile
Unlimited cheap data? T mobile
Open architecture? Gsm phones, unlocked phones compatibility?
T mobile
yet the company is suffering from losses.
What's wrong with people?

isnt tmo owned by deutschtelecom also?
And also I dont see how a merger between 2 companies using 2 different cell technologies will be beneficial. Ifanything tmobile should juststick with offering the cheapest plans and best customer service and slowly but surely you will see people migrate over slower...
Tmobile really doesnt offer anything special anymore, nd customer service definantly went downhill from what it used to be.

Good service is geographical. I live in LA and my service is very spotty. I worked for T-mobile for almost 4.5 years and my reception changed everytime I moved. Right now it is absolutely horrible but I stay on because I have a good price.
After reading a few articles about the potential merger I get the idea that they are not looking to integrate their systems but cut the operations cost that they are incurring, at least for the near short term. In reality it is not written anywhere that if two companies merge they must use one system or another. It would be a major game changer for both of these companies to merge and still use each carriers network (talk about flexibility). Regardless if they companies merge though prices will continue to go up. Data has become such a big commodity that people are willing to pay more for it regardless of who they have.
Cliffnotes: In my opinion they will only be merging operations for the first few years to cut costs, see which provider can retain the most amount of customers and go from there.
Is sprint even as big as tmobile is? Its sad that all these companies are trying to charge as much as possible for data...
And my biggest problem with tmobile is I pay an additional 20 bucks for my data service... And its supposedly unlimited.. But the minute I hit that 5gb cap I get slowed to literally dial up speed... Thanks tmobile!!! So the data really isnt unlimited, and I cant even purchase more bandwith

Agreed, its tricky advertising regarding unlimited data. But that's the best you can get in USA . At least they don't charge for excess data past 5GB. No one offers unlimited data for that price. For example AT&T offers 2GB for $20 you are paying plus an additional $5, not to mention overage fees...

And this is exactly why people dont join tmobile... Make the bandwidth unlimited for like 25 buxs... And then advertise that you really give unlimited compared to what att and verizon do...
If you want to suceed you have to stand out... And tmobile barely stands out, and I beieve sprints plans are the cheapest

Actually it is unlimited. Speed is limited to 3/4-g until 5GB, then throttled, can't really complain for that. I'd take this over $500 or so extra per GB of ATT overage

So sad that companies are doing this, especially just to carry a phone.

Yeah, I don't know what to do.
I kinda want to get the EVO3D, but I really like Moto phones... but Sprint is cheaper and has a better plan.
If Moto would come out with a DROID 3 on Sprint I wouldn't even be having this predicament. Or if HTC would make a ridiculously-specced QWERTY phone with Android on Sprint.
so sad, i hope carriers change their mind about how low the cap is
Kinda sucks in a way since I hate it when carriers get the better of customers. As long as I get good Sprint coverage ( and they don't do any stupid **** like this), I'm sticking with them though.

Sad to think it's only a matter of time before Sprint moves in the same direction. It's inevitable.
Am I the only one seeing it.....what happened to at&t after iPhone dropped? This is only round 2 of the Jobs train. Verizon will soon be another at&t and so will sprint is they're stupid enough to get it. Pretty sad.

I don't know that they can.
They made a commitment to truly unlimited, to go back on it now would damage them as far as PR.

Of course they CAN.
I do hope they stick to their plans for as long as logically possible. But it just seems unrealistic to think that even 5 years from now they'd still be offering truly unlimited data. This is the direction the industry is going in. Sprint will inevitably follow.
I love Sprint and hope they can keep it up for as long as possible, and it's going to be a great reason to start drawing in even more subscribers as everyone else goes the tiered data route. But it's not going to last forever. Or even half of forever ... whatever that is.

When I speak of "can" I mean with business sense, of course.
Sprint needs to be smart here because that wins you business.
If they're smart and keep to what they claim are their ideals then they can steal away a good chunk from the At&t/Verizon crowd.
They need to maintain their network, keep prices low and keep truly unlimited.
There's only one way to do that: efficiency.
Well, sure. From a business stand point that is all well and good. I get what you're saying but I don't think its that crazy to think that even a few years down the road ( IF that) you start hearing talk of Sprint possibly moving away from true unlimited. At the end of the day you have to keep the boat afloat and you have to weigh the 'money from subscriber numbers' to the possible 'revenue from said subscribers data plans.'
I do think that with their current plans, coupled with other carrier decisions and actions, it can only be a positive for Sprint to keep up the same game. But at the end of the day it is a business. Whatever nets you more of a profit at the end of the year and allows the dream to continue is what gets done. At the end of the day it's all the same, the business has to do what is best for themselves.
I do think it's more important for Sprint because they obviously don't have the numbers that the others do, so even if however many people choose to abandon the network because of tiered data plans, the hit isn't as noticeable. But with Sprint, should people start jumping ship en masse due to their network issues then it obviously effects Sprint more because of the smaller numbers.
I'm not saying Sprint couldn't afford to do it, I get that it would make more sense for them to stick with their current guns - especially in the face of everyone else changing their plans up. And time will tell just how many people actually jump from Verizon / AT&T / T-Mobile to Sprint because of their unlimited data plans. It's not like people are jumping on at record numbers.
Either way, it's still going to happen. Just a matter of time.

I think their network is the only thing holding them back and that's my only complaint.. I work for at&t land line and even with my measly 20% discount, I still pay less with sprint shared plan

I wouldn't go as far as to claim that.
I would be interested to know how much it actually costs a carrier to have truly unlimited versus not.
My guess would be: not jack **** of a difference.
My guess is it's really all about preventing sharing of copyrighted files and what Apple wants. [yet another example why don't own apple products]

I dont know why people still believe this exodus to the cheaper/better deal carrier stuff to be true. Sprint and Tmobile have been the cheapest out of the 4 big carriers in the US for probably the past 5 years. Even the fact that you can get almost unlimited calls, texts and data for $69.99 on Sprint still hasnt been enough to sway people from choosing VZW and AT&T instead. Its as simple as looking at the churn and post paid subscriber gains/losses. Sprint and Tmobile are cheaper and still bleed more customers than the big 2.
In the grand scheme of things.. its not going to matter. Sprint still has a stigma tied to its name from the terrible service/customer service they used to have and when people think of Verizon.. they think of the big red map on tv that gets you coverage pretty much everywhere. Same with Tmobile and AT&T... hell Tmobile has unlimited everything plans for like $79.99 and are still bleeding a ****load of customers pretty much every quarter. AT&T has tiered data and high plans, yet still gains post paid customers every quarter. I hope people dont think that just because VZW is going tiered thats going to change. Even with all the changes Sprint has made, their sole reason for the turnaround last year was the Evo. That was a good thing... but at the time the Evo was the first.. AND only of its time. Now you have Evo equivalents and even better coming out on every other carrier.
The whole "first to 4G" thing also helped... but pretty much everyone has it now. Hell even Metro PCS is lighting up LTE in cities now. I would think by now people would realize that its not always the "value" that the masses seek though. Prime example of that, look at how high priced Apple products are but yet.. they cant keep anything they sell in stock and everything they make flies off the shelves. I mean you COULD go get that mp3 player that does the same thing for $100 less... but people dont. You COULD get an Acer tablet instead of the ipad... but people dont. Marketing and perception is reality and thats still a negative in Sprints corner.

Hell just look at the huge backhaul issues Sprint is having now. Thats with unlimited data. Let AT&T and/or VZW show that going to a tiered data system cuts costs and I guarantee you at some point Sprint will be doing the same thing.

You hit the nail on the head right there though, it's because of the image Sprint has.
Nothing else.
As far as T-mobile...I know that there are some on here that praise them but their service is dead last.
I think MetroPcs actually has more land coverage now than T-mobile.
If Sprint can change people's minds and stick to their ideals, I see a bright future among the darkness of At&t/Verizon.

I don't know but again, let's not speak in absolutes and with 100% belief because we just don't know.
In the first quarter of this yearSprint reported the most customers gained and the fewest lost in years. I'd venture to say that at that time point it wasn't due to the evo or 4g, seems their image and rep are changing as we type.

The difference in network usage is enough. When Sprint gets back up, and gets a lot of subscribers, then it'll be interesting to see how they handle the two hand in hand.
Look, I'm all for Sprint ... I've been nothing but happy with Sprint. Data speeds in my area are fine, but when visiting family elsewhere I noticed that for the most part it was hit or miss. Thankfully I wasn't relying on phone usage at that time, or at least network usage. But where it counts, where I happen to live and spend most of my time, I have no complaints. So, naturally, I really do hope they can continue this truly unlimited offering for as long as they can. I'm not assuming they'll drop their plans next year, that would be terrible.
Go ahead and point me to the information convincing yourself that it's 'never' going to happen. It's obviously a known fact that for Sprint to keep their small base happy they have to stand by their word, but should that base grow tremendously so they'll have to start putting more and more money into their network. You have to make money to spend money and you have to come out with a profit to realistically keep said business going.
I don't doubt that Sprint reneging on their current plans in the next year would result in a lethal blow to their business, but down the road? It all depends on how well Sprint continues to grow and improve.
And it also wouldn't be the first time that a business made 'promises' or claimed end goals but had to change for their own good. You don't take a business and run it until it just dies without trying to change your methods. You exhaust all options to keep it afloat. Even with their unlimited data I don't see people flocking to Sprint in record numbers. Not to say people aren't, but it's not some 'write home and write off the other carriers' numbers.
I honestly hope Sprint can keep it up. Do I expect Sprint to have the same data plans 10 years from now? No, I really don't. But I hope I'm wrong!
I have to ask this question. If sprint decided to change it's plans next month before the Evo 3d and stated that if you upgrade you will be rolled into a 2gb or 5 gb plan. 2gb the price is the same and 5gb with a $10.00 increase. How many of you would sign for another two years?
These companies know that phones are our weakness and if you want it bad enough you will sign that contract and pay the upcharge. Simple as that. I am thinking from now on in general that I will just buy my phones straight out from craigslist or ebay because these companies are starting to take advantage at every corner. The new deal with AT&T and Tmobile will make our choices even smaller causing these companies to really bend us over.
Sprint charges more for 4g or premium data and we don't get that. Now if I decide to tether and it goes over 5gb then red flags are thrown up. See they feel like they can stick it to you but when you stick it to them, they drop you like a hot potatoe. When are Americans gonna figure out that these companies are not our friends and at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the Almighty Dollar.
sorry to be off topic, but i'd rail the tmobile girl in a heartbeat...back to topic. Verizon might lower their prices and leave a cap. This would please some people, not me
That weird looking one with the horse mouth? Interesting ...
