Foxnews rips on our little buddy? - EVO 4G General

Here
I like fox of why why why

How are they ripping on it? They are basically stating the obvious..

Reminds me of Bill Gates saying that 640K of memory would be enough.

They are more ripping on sprint and their 4g and prices
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

IMO. 4g is great and all, but if you live in an area with 4g coverage, you probably already have good 3g coverage. I'd rather just use 3g because I've noticed 4g is a major drain on battery life.

You, I admit, I did not read the article fully, I was trying to do breaking news.. lulz apologies!

Yeah, I saw that too the other day. Not only did they get the prices wrong for the plans but they say the $10 fee is for the 4G even though that is not what Sprint says it is for.
The same day this article came out another one talking up the iPhone and AT&T showed up...

I thought they were fair and balanced.

Foxnews is the worst they always lie, I just don't know why so many people follows what they say!! even though most of the time they are wrong!!

Their pricing is way off! Before I rooted this month my bill was $119.00 for the EVO with 4g charge and hotspot tethering.

And what's worse is that they don't even bother correcting it which makes me think they are intentionally lying. I hope Sprint sues their asses, it's about time someone calls them out for their lies.

While I don't really like fox news, they didn't really lie about plan pricing. The said "full plan" which, to me, implies sprint's "simply everything" plan, which is $100.00. Plus $30.00 for hotspot, plus $10.00 for "premium feature" (which we all know is 4G...) that brings a monthly bill to $140.00.
I personally pay $80.00 like I'm sure a lot of others do as well, the everything data 450. Who needs the simply everything plan... landlines are SO 2009. (Lol)

How are they lying? Which phones get charged $10 premium fees? The Evo 4G and the Samsung Epic 4G. Hmmmm........only two phones with 4G. The only reason Sprint does not state that you pay $10 for 4G because other people in areas that dont have 4G would not have to pay.

even if 4g phones on sprint cost $10 more a month, its still cheaper than [email protected] or verizon for an equal plan. AND we have truly unlimited data, v and a dont
imo 4g is not over hyped. its ****ing fast.
also, I think buying a new device for new technology is not so outrageous, at all. Apple does it all the time, heck, their first phone didnt even have 3g... lol if you buy a new hd cam and your computers graphic card just isnt up to par, you need a new one, same with everything else, if you want the latest of one side of tech, you need the latest on the other side as well. and thats a common know fact. suck it up fox

Obama has nothing to do with lawyer greed. If you are trying to refer to socialism there, sorry to burst your bubble, but what would you do without medicare? Medicare is a form of socialism.
Granted by the time I retire, there won't be enough money going into medicare to cover people. xD
*Edit* Nice job removing the Obama reference.

Explainthefee is completely justified in "complaining" about being lied to. Sure sprint has the best overall plan prices and the evo is a great phone, but that doesn't justify adding additional charges and lying to your customers. I thought us "smart phone" users pride ourselves for not being like iphone users and believing everything steve jobs tells them...now we criticize one of our own for attempting to bring out the truth...you guys are pathetic. If you would visit explainthefee dot com, then you will see how bogus this additional fee is. If sprint is trying to make an extra buck, then id rather them come out and say that rather than lie to us and say that the fee is for "premium unlimited data", thats not included in our "non-premium unlimited data plans"
It's not the fee that pisses me off, its the principle...

Sounds like marketing BS to me.
- With my Hero I had an Unlimited Simply Everything Plan and Sprint admitted that phones do not have the 5GB cap whereas the 4G laptop cards do.
- Then Sprint makes supposed new plans that have a cap.
- Evo is then suddenly not compatible with the old plans.
- Sprint adds a $10 fee to remove the cap from the new plans.
Personally I am not bothered by the $10 fee. What bothers me is that all of these explanations are completely transparent BS.
Sprint just needs to say that we are paying for the extra bandwidth and for them to create the 4G network around the country and stop making up stories.
Edit: And they better rename the Simply Evenythng Plan pretty quick. Obviously it isn't "Simply Everyting"
What do you guys want obviously they ran some numbers and realized more people will use a lot more bandwidth with the Evo than phones past and figured that unlimited data on the Evo is a lot more than unlimited data on something else.

i JUST got off the phone with a call center supervisor. want to know why you're paying the extra $120 a year?
you have a snapdragon processor
you have two cameras, one is 8MP
you can video chat
you can download apps
you have LIVE WALLPAPER
you have a TOP OF THE LINE PHONE
swear to God...those are the reason i was given for paying the extra $10 a month.
you don't think it's ridiculous to pay what amounts to a $10 a month leasing fee for using a "top of the line" phone?
It's obvious Sprint threw on $10 to capitalize on the hype of the phone. They are just trying to figure out how to justify it. It's obvious it doesn't make sense. Their own employees can't even explain it. No one sounds convincing.
It's like having a solution in search of a problem.
Great site BTW, the guy that writes the articles sounds very sharp. Possibly a lawyer? Good arguing skill.

yeah, i don't mind the $10/month if they came out and explained the reason for it; when you click on the $10 premium data, they explain it by saying the phone has a wicket fast processor, oversized display, and some others; so in essence, the $10 fee has nothing to do with data; it is just for the hardware, even though we pay $199 with 2 year contract for the hardware;
yeah, the $240 for 2 year is pretty much like we are leasing the phone and have to pay them monthly for the phone
Edit: i also talked to reps from Sprint Corporate office and they didn't even know how to explain the charge; the guy was saying stuff like the fast processor, large screen, 8mp camera, video conferencing, youtube, watching movies, kickstand and such; he was pretty much stating all the features of the phone, but couldn't explain the fee at all; it's not like if the $10 fee wasn't there, some of those features would be disabled
in case you want to see it, here's Dan discussing 4G, and how it's cheaper to "produce" a GB of 4G than a GB of 3G.
"because we're not charging customers more but we're giving customers more..."

Return the phone and stay with a hero or blackberry...you're still within your 30 days. They're very nice phones and you can save $120 a year. No one has twisted your arm on this one. I don't like the answer to why the fee is there..but its there.

Are you ****ing serious? With an attitude like that you should own an iPhone. The bottom line is that Sprint saw a way to capitalize on the hype and make some extra cash. All these bull**** excuses they give are just that, bull****. I don't mind paying the extra $10.00 because I've figured out what it is for myself. I would have much more respect for Sprint if they just admitted what the charge is really for.
We live in a world of corporate double-speak where people are just either so ignorant or beaten down that they just take these guys at their word.
Good point we should go to ATT where 5gb of data costs $55, and unlimited text is $20. That's $5 less than an Evo with its $10 charge, of course you still need to add in the base voice plan and the fact that doesn't include roaming, or the fact it's only 3g on a network that has nowhere near the 3g coverage of Sprint.

lol the reason why i DONT own an iphone is that i actually think about what i buy (not just listen to the ramblings of a deranged tyrant) (or their equally deranged fanbase) as well as being an informed customer i also look at what i purchase from various points, and whether or not a whole package justifies my purchasing of said device, the evo does, i happen to really like 4g and i use it a fair amount of time so to me the 10$ is very much justifiable. I think we live in a world where people think that standing on top of their high chair and banging their kettle drum is going to change corporate business practices, they need to make money and the fact that iphone is such a prolific device speaks volumes to the average intelligence of consumers. As far as im concerned the more people buy a 4g the faster they will improve 4g service as well as support our device better. So frankly i dont give a damn if they started calling the 4g "magical" just like steve jobs, or for that matter whatever other corporate lingo they need to justify covering expenses. i hope they keep selling more and more
They need to stop saying it is for Hardware. We all know that is a complete joke. I paid for my phone flat our for $449. Why is there a "rental" fee of $10 to use the hardware I already purchased? And for crying out loud why does the name of that fee include the word "data"?
Do they take us for Morons?
Sounds like the original explanation for this fee was for 4G, and then some intern pointed out that 4G doesn't exist everywhere. So apparently all of the Sprint PR department has quit and the Janitors are coming up with the explanations (no offence against Janitors).
I swear it is all a little too retarded for a corporation as big as Sprint.
The Hero was a top of the line phone that does 90% of what they say we are paying for. Why was there no fee for that?
*sigh*

Why does Sprint continually lose money every quarter?

Just read over on Engadget how Sprint lost $760 million last quarter. Why do you think they continually do so bad? Is it because of poor sales or poor business/financial decisions (debt left over from merger or otherwise)? Their coverage is awesome, their 3G speeds are often better than Verizon's, they have 4G on tap, customer service has never given me any trouble, I can upgrade my phone annually, and the plans offer way more features and are still cheaper than the competition. The list is endless, there's really no other carrier I'd rather be on. Do others not feel the same way? Is their marketing failing?
I feel the same way. Their advertisements always seem good. I feel like they don't advertise as heavily as any of the other carriers here.
Maybe from all the expanding and changes they've done? Don't know though. I haven't had any problems at all. Their customer service always corrects problems, even crediting a lot of charges back.. and coverage is good. A lot happier then I was with at&t
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Couldn't have said it better myself.
It wasnt until recently that they had good phones. I remember a few years back, most of their phones were garbage. Everyone jumpped ship and moved to ATT due to the fact that you could pull the sim card, and switch phones as you pleased. All the phones from Asia were flocking over to the US and everyone had some new Nokia, Ericson, or some other great phone.
Sprint had junk. Some of us probably rode that out, and FINALLY they are getting some good phones...I've been on Sprint for almost 12 years now. I did move to VZW for 2 years, but ended up coming back to Sprint.
makes you wonder how they are even sustainable loosing that type of money every quarter.
The Nextel merger is STILL hurting them badly. Plus, they offer the cheapest plans but for the longest time they did not have the devices people wanted. Now they have the devices but people are stuck in contracts with other carriers. Another thing is advertisement and word of mouth. Sprint has never had the most eye-catching commercials. Us former Palm Pre users know the effect bad or no advertisement can hurt you. And I agree, the Nascar thing is wasted money when you have to spend more money rolling out 4G nationwide.

Why? You want your 3g to go back to a capped plan right as Sprint is the last to offer unlimited? Even at $10 more it's a cheaper unlimted uncapped 3g plan than any of the capped plans on other carriers. Paying more sucks but like taxes, it is necessary if you want infrastructure improvement. They can't keep charging less than all the rest, losing subs, and still expect to improve service. This way only us power users who need unlimited data and access to Wimax networks pay the $10 and not your mom who just wants to make calls and maybe a text or two.

I will pay the fee without hesitation. I live in an area with no 4g, but it's nearby and I travel to locations with it for short times randomly, but I justify the cost with the fact that I have the best phone available and that I have ever had or anybody else has and have the best service provider and also that everybody else its still more expensive and offers less.

Oh...wow...Sprint removed it that quick....It basically stated that Sprint has removed or is in the process of removing the quote about the Evo is better than the iphone, in it's commercials. So the article speculated that maybe Sprint is in talks with Apple about possibly bringing the iphone to Sprint. It also stated that this was the same process that Verizon went through...they first made these commercials going against the iphone/att, then they stopped and now they have the iphone.
Awesome, I'm one of the ones that would actually like an iPhone on Sprint.

I did notice the iPhone thing gone from the ad, but I dont think apple will release the iphone on sprint. I suppose they could, it just doesnt seem likely to me and this is not much to base an assumption on
It's coming. Since Verizon has a CDMA iPhone, Sprint will have it as well. Apple needs to get that darn phone on as many carriers as possible since they are being hammered by Android phones on ALL major carriers. It makes good business since for Apple, Verizon & Sprint BUT not us customers since it raises our plans and Sprint will eventually goto a tiered data plan instead of unlimited like Verizon did. It's just a matter of time. They make money, we grab our ankles

It makes good business since for Apple, Verizon & Sprint BUT not us customers since it raises our plans and Sprint will eventually goto a tiered data plan instead of unlimited like Verizon did. It's just a matter of time. They make money, we grab our ankles

At least someone understands how businesses work. It will come soon trust me. They are basically taxing us so they could prepare for the iPhone and build out their network. For all you know they could be doing field trials now with the iPhone.
If it comes to Sprint then I'm definitely getting one. You can't argue that Apple did something right. They have an excellent product and apps to back it up.

So now all of us customers who were/are loyal to Sprint are getting screwed over with all these new plans/perk changes because they want to bring the damn iPhone to the network. Great.

Verizon is on tiered data plans and Sprint is still simply unlimited yet you think Sprint will go to tiered instead of staying unlimited like Verizon? Why do you think Sprint is adding the $10 to all smartphones? To stay unlimited and not make some BS 25-200MB plan.

Yeah right Corporate Dude. Sprint is playing Monkey See, Monkey Do. Sprint CANNOT be trusted right now (they are already yanking away a major selling point from last year, why should they be trusted at all). I believe ALL of these DAMN carriers are in collusion and are Price Fixing with back door deals. Tiered Data is coming since Verizon and AT&T did it, now Sprint will do it to and then try and sell it to their remaining customers as it's a good thing
You can tell your masters not all of us are Dumb and buying their BS.

Hotspot data limited

I see the news that Sprint is doing away with unlimited hotspot. I use the wifi tether app to provide a hotspot for my laptop in the field.
How can i see how much data I'm using while tethering?
I`m getting the itch more and more to go to Verizon. Sprint cell service is very spotty, there becoming more like the rest, and their 4G sucks and it will be another year and a half before we can see any change from them with LTE.
Would this change in the data be grounds for me to cancel due to change in the contract?
if you really wanna get out your contract without having to pay the etf go here> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073 from what i read if you use up enough data sprint will give you the boot.

If you are rooted and using wifi tether, this "shouldn't" affect that, as that app makes it seems like its the phone using the data. What sprint is after is the people using the Sprint Hotspot app.

No, this does not change your contract. If you are already in contract, this doesn't affect you until you re-sign the contract.

No, do NOT do that. There are MANY LEGAL ways to get out of your contract. Screwing sprint over by making them pay verizon for your stupidity is not the way to do it.

You sound like a sprint employee. Sprint is a multi million dollar company they can afford it, also alot of us on sprint are getting screwed for having to pay for 4g when we can barely even get a 4g connection. Not to mention the crappy reception.

You aren't paying for 4g, you are paying for mobile internet.

Oh bull****. Sprint tacks on an extra 10 (I think it's 20 now $) to own a 4g phone. Despite the vast majority paying have no access to 4g. Your comment is purely ignorant. How do you not recall this argument from 18mo ago? Are you new?
I have 4g. But I know most don't. Stupid comment of the year award, over, done, awarded. You win.
Edit: and thanks agent Droid for giving me a place to post the link I had just copied to share

While capping data use on its 3G network to 3GB, 5GB, or 10GB per month, Sprint has continued to offer unlimited 4G service. Now, the cap for each of these plans will cover the subscriber's combined monthly data use on both 3G and 4G. All data use above the cap will cost 5 cents per megabyte.
The monthly allowance for data use while roaming on non-Sprint networks will be 100MB for the 3GB plan and 300MB for the other two plans, with each megabyte over those caps charged at 25 cents.
For Mobile Hotspot plans on phones, data usage will be capped at 5GB per month of either 3G or combined 3G/4G service, depending on whether the phone can use 4G. Use above that cap will be charged at 5 cents per megabyte. Those plans will have a 300MB monthly cap for data roaming.

This is absurd.
People like you are what cause cut backs, increased rates and relinquishment of benefits.
You people sit here and try to justify all the bull**** you want, Sprint isn't doing this to be jerks.
They simply cannot afford it.
They want to continue to offer unlimited data on phones

And?
I'm not going to search your previous posts.
All I know is you tried to peddle this bull**** idea that these companies are just swimming in cash.
Its so stupid.
People make comments like "these CEOs make millions a year, they can afford xy abuse/exploit"
Okay...and do you think that CEO is going to lose out on his pay because of that abuse?
NOPE.
Guess who does? The customer and low level employees.
Always always always.
Everything is interconnected.
For all the fools that force a carrier to give em a different model because their OEM phone can't be rooted after an update, or those that abuse prls, or those that demand credits because a device that is known to have an issue and you didn't return it within the 14 days, or people downloading 50GB of month in torrents on their wireless connection...the only one you're hurting is the customer. (Yourself)
Everyone wants to ***** and whine about loss of benefits, limiting of data, the loss of the ability to get a different model when its necessary for valid reasons ....WELL THEN STOP ABUSING the system.
Because abuse is truly what is causing a loss of those benefits.
You can "screw" whatever corporation you want...problem is...the CEOs, the board, the higher ups...they won't even notice the difference.
People gotta start focusing on the bigger picture.
This isn't about being on some "high horse" or being "self righteous" or whatever negative connotation that you can attach to it.
It's about the realization that everything is truly interconnected and that we customers are the ones screwing ourselves.

Umm, do YOU remember the argument? It is WIDELY known the 10 dollar fee is for Premium Data, NOT just for 4g. EVERY smartphone has a 10 dollar fee now, not just 4g phones. So your argument that the 10 dollars is for 4g is stupid.
