USB Drivers not recognized(Windows 7) - Droid 2 General

I don't know if this is in the right section, but I've tried searching everywhere, and have been searching for quite sometime trying to some sort of solution and haven't found any yet. Here's the issue:
I rooted my friends Droid 2, wanted to put the Liberty ROM on there, got ROM-Manager and installed Clockwork Recovery, attempted to use Rom Manager to go into the Recovery and go from there. Instead it booted into the Bootloader, attempted to use hold 'X' and the Power button to get into the recovery. The backlight came on, and it never went into the recovery, just sat at the bootloader. Now to turn the phone on it needs to have the camera button and power button held, but will never go into the recovery. Alas I connected back to the urb cord, and it doesn't read the connection. After looking around, found out, that when I have the phone connected to usb all the drivers show up as unknown......
Ok, so as I was typing this, the usb/drivers suddenly decided to start working(no idea how), but when I try and get it into the recovery console it shows the droid/exclamation point, but no menu.
Any help would amazing, just wanting to get Liberty ROM installed, Or if anyone knows of a ROM that is closest to CyanogenMOD would be even better.

You need to use Koush's Bootstrap for recovery before you even attempt to install clockwork via ROM manager as this is an e-fuse locked phone it's not like the D1 or other HTC droids etc. (Please read a D2 ROM install before flashing anything as it will save you headache and time!)
If you want to get into the stock recovery just hit the search (magnifying glass) key on the keyboard after you get to the android screen with the exclamation mark, this will bring up the menu. You can use the volume keys or the keyboard directional arrows and select with the camera button or the "ok" button.

cant seem to get into recovery mode so i can flash modaco

Hi there i have a sprint cdma hero I followed the instructions here:
theunlockr.com/2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/
Once i gained root access I typed on my pc via the android sdk
adb shell
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img
I then shut the phone off and press home + power to get into the recovery console so I can tell it to recover the modaco update.zip on the sdcard
Only thing is i never get to that screen, it just doesnt go to the "blue screen" I get a white screen with 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom
The only screen i have is a white screen with the following info
HERO XC
HBOOT-1.41.0000<HERO2000>
MICROP-0110
TOUCH PANEL SYN0104
RADIO-1.04.01.09.21

Any help would be appreciated
You are holding the power button while holding the home button.
Just press the power while holding the home button, don't hold the power button also.
Only hold home and press power...
And side question...
Why the modaco rom? that is very outdated...
Read the Rom wiki at the top of this forum and read through those roms.. Modaco abandoned the hero a few months ago..
Ahh i see i didnt know there were more mods, well the main reason im doing this is so i can get wifi tether to work. What would be the best rom out there for this? and overall best rom?
Personally I run the Fresh 2.1d because it was the first with a complete Wifi tether working.
But DamageControl or any of the 2.1 roms have it working, just read the changelog in each post.. They tell you what's working and what's not.
its easier to get into recovery if you hold volume down and press power on.
Hey thanks that worked perfectly I'm at another roadblock though. I got into the recovery screen, i installed update.zip (I used damageControl zip file) and now it just puts into a htc quietly brilliant screen then it looks like something doesnt load and then reboots. It loops the reboot continuously. Is there any steps i should take into fixing this?
Ok this is what i did
i got the RA screen like recommended by holding volume down then pressing power. But there is one more step i had to take, that was holding down the home button once in that screen.
From there i had the reboot problem, i went back into RA and did a wipe. I thought it was going to wipe my system and bring it back to pre-damagecontrol. Booted up and it was a fresh copy of damagecontrol with all my contacts still there
Thanks for the help guys

Grrrr, Why Me! Help

Well I've had my Vibrant for about a month now but have not been in a rush to root because there aren't really any ROMS available yet. I've donated so I'm excited to see what comes about. Any way I decided to go ahead and root today because frankly the bloatware was getting on my nerves. So I rooted the phone basically just flashing the upsate.zip and then flashing recovery via rom manager. Now I'm a bit frustrated because immediately after rooting:
1. My Vibrant is laggy as all hell!
2. Google apps crashes repeatedly
3. My damn market no longer works! Can't download apps via market anymore
4. My Sync is now broken, it says synced but definitely does not sync anything any time anymore.
What gives? Others have obviously had no problems and I'm certain I didn't do anything wrong, I've been rooting and flashing since the days of G1 and have had a Mytouch and most recently a Nexus One. I'm not fantastically versed but I'm no n00b all the same.
Also what's up with the radio? My phone rings and the ringer is low then a few seconds later gets loud also the delay between the time I dial a number and the number rings is pretty big, I've taken two phones and called one to check.
Any way I'm frustrated and unroot is not working, I attempted to unroot but yet remain rooted with all the same headaches.
Some help would be appreciated.
Go ahead and use odin to get back to stock. Yes you will lose your data.

You should be back to stock at this point. Then use this file to get root.

There really isnt much else to do. You dont even need the recovery, yet, but use clockwork through market to get it. Choosing Vibrant as the recovery option. Download the busybox app from market to get the newest one.
unfortunately my phone does not boot into download mode. I've tried holding volume down and power, no dice it just boots up normally. ive also tried holding volume up and power to the same result....And I don't know of any other way to use Odin without download mode. After rooting my phone nothing works properly.

You have to hold volume up and down while holding power. Once the screen goes black release power and continue holding volume up and volume down.
Your other option is with adb to do "adb reboot download" and it will reboot into download mode.
Once you get the hang of holding the volume up and down it's a piece of cake.
try installing one of eugene's ROMs through Clockwork, and see if that fix's anything.
Make sure you have the samsung drivers installed on your computer.
Odin can be tricky, here's my sure fire way that i get into Odin every single time.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR USB PLUGGED IN YET
1) Start odin load your .pit file and rom into PDA
2) Go into stock recovery
3) Now plug in the USB cable, Odin should recognize a phone is connected
4) In recovery select Reboot System
5) Immediately press the Volume Up/Down Button all the way in, (2 clicks)
6) should load the yellow triangle and say download mode plus Odin should recognize it immediately
Okie doke, thanks guys, I went ahead and used Odin to return to get back to stock so I'm going to just root again, I have no idea why things got so screwed up when I rooted and flashed before. Getting into download mode was annoying but this is what worked for me:
1. Turn off phone
2. Plug USB in
3. Wait for green charging screen
3. Hold Volume Up, Volume down, and Power.
5. Let go of power as soon as the screen goes black.
Open Odin and load files then hit start....and back to stock I went.
Thanks again!

[Q] how to get into recovery mode on D2

I am trying to do an nandroid back up. The instructions say to power off, then hold the "Home Key" and the power button untill you see the triangle.
I am holding the picture of a house next to the menu key. Is that the correct key?
My unit just turns on normally even if I am holding mentioned key, which is the wrong key cause it should not have power until the phone is on and unlocked.
Thanks for help.

On the Droid 2 you have to go through a different way.
1. Make sure you have Koush's bootstrap app for the Droid 2.
2. Make sure you are bootstrapped via Koush's app.
3. Reboot to recovery through Koush's app.
You navigate menus with the volume buttons. You select with the camera button, and you go back with the power/lock button.
you can also utilize the keyboard arrows, use ok to select and delete to back up.

Ok, got it from the Market and it installed. I started it and did not know what to do, so I hit the first button, then the second button, then went to Backup/Restore and chose backup.
It is working as i type this.
Thank you so much
yes you would select backup. Once you do this it will backup to you backup folder on your sdcard. If you were to need to go back, you would utilize the restore option and select whichever backup you wanted to use.
if your phone is boot looping or anything to get into recovery:
-start up phone
-let the phone go to the bootscreen (the droid eye screen after the M logo)
-pull the battery out while in the bootscreen
-after a few seconds replace battery and boot up phone
-phone will boot into clockwork recovery

Good advice. I believe there is a flag that gets set when you shut down the phone, and it only gets reset when you successfully boot. That way, if you boot loop, when you try to boot again it goes to recovery.
This also manifests itself sometimes when you flash a rom. Everytime you boot, it first goes into clockwork recovery, which is annoying, but fixable. This problem occurs because you need to bootstrap again which allows the flag to get reset when the OS loads.
only bootlooping when connected USB
I dont know what happened I simply had my phone attached to my pc in USB mode (after transferring music to the sd card via "media sync") and when I switched to 'charge only' and attached my head phones, my phone went into a boot loop. i unplugged USB cord and bootloop stopped... anyone run into this at all? kinda frustrating since now i apparently can now longer attach to my pc.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Clockwork Recovery Droid X - Camera Button Won't Select

So I've seen this problem in several posts and on various forums, but I've yet to find a solution.
Basically the camera button works fine on the device, but when I'm in Clockwork Recovery, the camera button does not register a click. I've also scrolled through the list until the "Back Button Enabled" message appears, it also does not work.
The power, Menu, and Home buttons toggle the screen on and off.
The Back, Search, Camera buttons do nothing.
I was on .621, ended up SBFing and rerooting using the Linux bootdisk method.
I have root, and can get Rom Manger to reboot and make a backup, but it fails on updating the rom, so that doesn't work either?
Any suggestions on what I'm missing or doing wrong?

[Q] Vol Up + Home + Power doesn't get me into recovery anymore.

Hi all. I was tinkering around with my device, and this is what happened.
I tried to install the MIUI rom found here, but didn't flash loki. So I got the message upon reboot that ATT Found unauthorized software or whatever, and wouldn't get me get past the screen. Booting into recovery didn't work after that as well, so I proceeded to look for a solution. Someone had posted to get into the download screen, press cancel, and hold the volume up to get back into recovery, and bam that worked.
So now I'm back to using the backup of the rom I was using before, but now I can't get back into my recovery by the old method that I was using. However, that workaround I found works fine. Any ideas?
Edit, so whenever I boot up all I have to do is press the volume up button and it goes to recovery from there. I'm fine with that as long as my phone isn't broken or anything??
