Desire HD suddenly lagging big time - Desire HD General

Hi everyone
I'm new to xda, so if my question has already been answered - please direct me there!
I've got a Desire HD running stock Android 2.2, but in the last few days its suddenly been running really slow, screens taking long time to appear, system hangs etc
I've got ATK, which i use to kill unwanted apps etc (am I doing this right?), but it appears to be 'busy' doing something in the background...
Can anyone help?
Matthew

First thing to do is uninstall the task killer, they will only cause you problems. Google it and you will find loads of info about why not to use them. Android does a very good job by itself.
Second, have you got usb debug turned on? if not turn it on, not surewhich version the problem was solved in so turn it on an see if it helps.
Good luck.
Blinky

yep Blinkydamo hit the nail on the head. Do those and it should solve that.
If you don't know where USB Debugging is.. go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.

cheers, will give that a go

[Q] Bluetooth file transfer application problem: Keeps Installing update

Hi All,
I had installed Bluetooth file transfer, moved the app to SD card using the android 2.2 A2SD capability for the application and enabled automatic application.
Today morning, I saw that there was a notification that an update was installing itself for the Bluetooth File transfer app. I clicked on it and it took me to the market page. I didnt think it was a big deal and left it alone.
However, it has been in the same status for about 12-13 hours and I noticed that my phone was considerably slower than usual and was also losing battery rapidly.
I checked the apps running and saw that BTF app was still in the installing stage. So I restarted the phone. Still the same status. I uninstalled the application, in the hope that it would be gone now, but still when I go to the markets>download page, I can see that the application is still trying to install itself.
My phone is still a little bit slow I think. Please help me out with the issue. How do I uninstall the app totally and make sure that it is not slowing / degrading my phone's performance.
Thanks
Sankar
go into settings, apps, all, android market.
Force stop and erase data and cache.
It should work
Thanks for that.
I will try that.
That worked. Many thanks again.

DHD on 100% CPU Usage

Just wondering after downloading OS Monitor and SeePU, it shows my phone running at 100% cpu all the time, the process taking it up is something called /init, can someone enlighten me?
Thanks

Also very curious! There seem to be a few people with this issue and not just on the HD. Could some Android wizard please take a look? There is not much to be found via google.
Funny, people said that hard resets and all dont do anything but i just restarted my phone normally and it just sits at 0%, i did unistall SeePU but dont think it had much affect on it, duno what was wrong with it
imo first thing if there is an issue like this is to get the RUU and reflash it.
if you are still experiencing this issue you might wanna have a look at this thread.i was on the same boat.very annoying.

Just set HTC Sense Sync from automaticaly (like 1/2/3/5 hrs) to Manually or push update ....
I wonder if you enabled USB Debug
on in Settings > Applications > Development
This will help the 100% CPU, which is a bug in HTC Rom
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You need only a complete CALENDAR cache cleanered

Yes, please do this!
And if it solves the problem, please let it know so this thread can be closed.
GPS seems to send the cpu to 100% DHD
Had to enable to GSP to use the Car Panel app after that the CPU went to 100%.
Just disabling didn't work. I had to restart to get the CPU back down.
Best option: go to sync accounts and remove you htc sync account. I've heard thid helped many people
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I was having this exact problem, I had automatic sync off, turned it on and changed everything to every 3hrs or so and what do you know, CPU usage dropped to 5-15% at home screen from 100% constantly.
Maybe that's why my battery died so fast today
As someone said a few posts before: activate USB debugging. Your phone will vibrate, will be unresponsible, after 10 seconds it will vibrate again and then your CPU usaage will go down like the titanic
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I was also facing 100% cpu usage.
First i disabled htc sync and others leaving only the necessary accounts. And my CPU usage was unde control to 3-5 %
Now after two days cpu usage was 99%. I enabled USb Debugging, and exactly as previous post said phone vibrate two times and cpu usage is stable to 3 %.

Froyo Updated Legend - CPU Util. Problem & One Solution

Hello All,
My Stock Legend received the Froyo update a week back. The moment I upgraded the phone - the entire phone became sluggish especially the messaging app. I had 4000+ messages... The messaging app became responsive the moment I deleted all the messages (through a 3rd party app). But after a day of usage the entire phone became sluggish with CPU hittin 90~100% utilization constantly!
Tried varios task managers and CPU monitoring apps - all showed /init consuming 80+% of the CPU.
Finally enabling USB Debugging resolved the issue!!!!! Everything became normal and snappy
Thought would post this wierd problem here - in case anybody is seeing sluggish responses do try this out!
--Ashwin
seem to work
It might just be my mind playing tricks on me, or maybe I should wait a bit longer before saying this..
your method actually seem to have decreased the lag on my phone since froyo update!
thanks for the tip
I thought this USB debugging bug is only present in the HTC Desire?
I also have a lot of weird problems. Sometimes apps dissapear, when I restart my phone these apps are back.
Also the sound when I unlock my phone is gone?
It really worked, thanks bro...

It's present on almost every Android device on the market
I immediately reboot the phone the moment it finished updating, so I don't know if it's laggy or not, but I do know that after rebooting, it works fine.
It actually worked ! WOW ... just when i was about to get frustrated with the Froyo Update !
I Had to keep rebooting my phone before to keep it snappy .. like a windows computer ...

[Q] Apps Close At Screen Time Out

I have an issue that is driving me absolutely crazy... When my screen times out, the application that I am using closes. This does not occur on my G2 and I cannot figure out how to stop it from occurring on my Galaxy Tab. I know that I can increase the time before the screen times out, but I would prefer to have the app stay running. Anyone know how to fix this?
Ugh!!!
By default Android does not terminate Apps when the screen times out.
1. Does this happen with ALL Apps?
2. Has it happened all the time or only recently?
If it is recently, have a look at your installed Apps to see if there is something you have either installed or altered at the time the problem was first noticed.
As Beards says it shouldn't do this. What have you done to your tab, because you give us absolutely no information with which we can help you!
I do have Launcher Pro installed, but do not see an option to change the way it behaves when the screen closes. I have noticed that this DOES NOT occur when the tablet is plugged in to a charging source, only when running on battery.
As I mentioned previously, could you answer my previous questions.
Simply mentioning Launcher Pro does not really help in diagnosing the problem. You must be specific otherwise it is difficult to assist.
The use of battery only is interesting but need further info.
Weird.
Have you got power saving mode unchecked in display settings?
Not running an app. like JuiceDefender or similar are you?

Yes, this is what I am leading up to, rather than asking direct which may end up sending us on a wild goose chase.

Is your DESIRE HD as slow as mine??

Hi guys,
Just got a Desire HD for my dad and boy am I embarrassed! It is painfully slow and it just shows everywhere! Screen swipes are delayed by 0.5 sec to 1 sec, opening apps are slow, scrolling through long lists is laggy oh my goodness I don't even know where to stop! Just really really awful!
I have a Desire that's why I know how it's supposed to function. Is it just my desire?? It's still unrooted and running stock rom, I am thinking of rooting it and all but I am hesitant because this is my dad's unit and he might have issues later on.
software running:
1.32.707.5
I tried the software update and it says I am up to date! Is there anyway to force the update to 1.7?
THANKS GUYS

The update has been pulled because of inconsistent performance. We should be getting another one soon enough.
Try switching on USB Debugging. Go to settings> applications> Development.
You may also want to disable Fast Boot. Go to settings> Applications.
Just so you know, the DHD is, typically, very fast.
I was playing around with it and turned on usb debugging and I don't know if it's because of that but it has become noticeable faster. Another factor may be because my dad still doesn't use the phone everyday and only for browsing without a sim. Phone seems normal after about 30 mins of playing around as compared to my previous experience. (Screen rotation before I played around was 1 - 2 seconds behind desire, now it's on par if not slower by a little)
Did some research and apparently I am not the only one with the same experience:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-846228.html
I think the usb debugging did the trick, interesting why this happened though..
I turned on usb debugging when I was gonna root and everything just sped up lol
Someone should put the thread above as a sticky.
i have the phone and i have no lag whatsoever! fastboot off,usb debugging on,20% brightness, updatess off(I CHECK MANUALLY ONCE A WEEK ABOUT)
I HAVE REVOLUTION SKIN(THE GREEN THING)
task killer i always kill all task before playing games or going to web
i hear that kiling all task before shutting down ,makes afterward the phone to bootup FASTER!

Why kill them?
The kernel will reallocate memory to the active app if it needs to anyway.
dont kill tasks, it does nothing of any use.

I disagree! The only way I can get lag-free experience is killing the unwanted tasks using up cpu cycles. Some apps just want to run and run regardless of whether you ever use them. And I'm not talking about programs sitting harmlessly idle in memory but about things like htc stocks, facebook, maps that get my cpu up to 30% though I never use any of those apps. Killing them gives me an hour or two of reasonable performance before they start themselves up again.
Sent from my HTC HD so may contain typos, bugs and, if the battery lasts, pearls of....(battery 0%)
