How to backup phone? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I want to update my phone with a newer rom.
But I need to make a backup of it first.
What is the best way of backing the phone up?
Also, I have CoPilot installed, do I have to deactivate this before updating the ROM. Then reinstall and reactivate after the ROM update.
Thanks

You can take backup for you contacts, calender, Task and SMSs before you upgrade.
For Contact, Calender, Task: Outlook is best.
Create a Outlook profile and sync your mobile so that the new profile will have all your Contacts, Calender, Task etc.
For SMS: Use "My Phone" application on your mobile and Sync online to Microsoft My Phone for SMS.
(of course you can use My Phone to sync every thing online, But I prefer only SMS for myself)
Thanks.

MYPhone custom folders to sync

I would like to synchronize custom folder with photos, because I use microsd for that.
So..my question is...where in the registry keys I need to change what to set new directory for photos?
Thanks
Do not trust myphone
Do not trust Microsoft Myphone.
I did.
My old HD was stolen.
I had all contacts in a backup at myphone.
So when the choice of which new phone I should buy, a new windows mobile became the choice. At least I would get all my contacts back on the phone easy.
Well. Logging in myphone with the new HD2, all contacts are gone.
The SMSs are still there, but not the contacts.
Do not trust this as your backup. Use PIM or something similar, and keep the backupfile om your own computer.
I am using active sync and outlook contacts every few weeks or when I add few people...
I would like to use myphone just for sync photos and messages...but I would like to sync photos from microsd folder...

Myphone Sync

Hi
I'm planning to sync all my contacts and sms items with myphone and then upgrade new ROM. After the ROM upgrade I'm planning to restore my sms and stuff from ms myphone, how can I be sure that myphone does not automatically deletes all my stuff from my myphone account when it discoveres that my HD2 device is empty?
I don't know how you can be sure. But it does work.
I upgraded from an Experia to the HD2. Restoring from MyPhone went smooth. A week ago I upgraded the ROM of my HD2 and again, restoring from MyPhone went without problems. So I would say that it is safe to try.
Great! Did youi also get your contact photos back?
Yeah, everything was in place. Mind you, I only synced contacts, events, sms's and tasks.
I did the exact same thing with my HD2 a few days ago and it worked fine.
My contacts and events were synced with Exchange though so MyPhone didn't touch those, but all sms and pictures were restored after flashing the ROM and syncing MyPhone again. If you're not using Exchange MyPhone will handle your contacts and events as well.
i just flashed a new rom now and went to use the myphone back up and the damn thing deleted all my contacts and text messages, luckily my contacts got archived on the myphone site and i was able to get them back, the texts im not too worried about
Back-up programm on computer
I'm looking for a back-up programm which I can install on my computer instead on my HTC HD2.
I cannot synchronize my phone with outlook because it's to old and therefore no connection can be made. At least so it says.
MyPhone doesn't work for me either, cause it only downloads contacts and so on if their is a connection between my mobile and outlook.
Before the HTC HD2 I had another mobile (not a windows mobile), for this mobile I had a programm (PC Suite) with which I could make a back-up of my entire mobile. And I could enter my backed-up data on my computer.
I hope someone can tell me which back-up programm I can use.
I have found that when trying to sync photo's from storage card starts uploading every image it finds from apps like FPSECE. I let it run for a while then it fails saying I have run out of storage on MyPhone!! Bit silly really that there isn't more options to what images to upload.
You can also use Dashwire to backup everything on your phone. I've used it for a couple of years now and never had any problems with it. You just uninstall the application from your device before you wipe your phone, then reinstall it once you're done and it'll sync all your stuff back.
Back to the OP's question, there's something on the myphone end that realises your phone is empty and pulls all your contacts down instead of deleting them. Your 'backup' here is that if you delete a contact on your phone and sync, it's not deleted from myphone. Instead, it goes into an archive there where you can either delete it permanently or move it back on to your phone. IE, worst case is you'd need to hit a few 'Check all' and 'Restore' buttons to get everything back and working.

Duplicate contacts outlook and device

After upgrading to 1.66 and using myphone to back up, i now have duplicate contacts in outlook and my device and also i hard reset today and synced again, it seems i have up to 4 duplicates of each entry!!
WTF have i done wrong here and how do i stop this happening again?
Sync with Outlook OR myphone, not both!
If outlook is the master, after a hard reset, unregister the phone from myphone, delete all contacts in myphone, sync with outlook, which will restore the contacts on the phone, then register and sync with myphone, which will transfer them to myphone again.
As there's no direct link between outlook and myphone, if you hard reset and sync both, myphone will restore your contacts onto the phone, then outlook will do the same as it can't know the contacts that are now on the phone are the same ones it's gonna transfer. Then myphone sees you have more contacts, so syncs them, and you get a double, etc.
Remove duplicates on PC and phone
To remove duplicates you can use:
1) For your PC: http://www.vaita.com/ODIR.asp
2) For your phone: http://gydarindustries.com/?page_id=4
aha!i get it now, thanks both
Man, i am in a pickle tonight LOL please, read this, laugh and call me a numpty....
I deleted all my duplicates using that app mentioned above on my device. I then deleted all my contacts in outlook thinking it would update to what's on my phone but outlook just deleted all my contacts on my phone!!! How does this work? does it go by what the latest action was or will outlook always update my phone to what's in outlook? If that is the case then everytime i add or alter a contact on my device outlook will delete it. Surely i've got that wrong
I then **** myself having no contacts what so ever, so i thought i'd sync with myphone and get them all back on to my phone, but then i thought, no, wait what if my device updates myphone with zero contacts, i am not sure what way round this all works.
So then i panic but realise that all my contacts i deleted in outlook are still in the deleted items folder so i restored them all and synced it back to my device.
I am now back at square one and am highly confused over what takes presidence when syncing my device with outlook and with myphone, i do however understand that outlook and myphone don't have a connection.
Would i be right in saying that the latest 'action' on outlook, myphone or my device will then be updated to the other?
What i really want to do is, edit all my contacts in myphone, sync to device, sync to outlook, is that possible
i've seen this said on here before, don't mess with things when tired!
apologies for being thick, i'm still getting used to using outlook (from outlook express) and using wm from symbian.

This can be set in WMDC/Activesync. By default, when creating a new partnership/the sync history is lost it's set as "outlook overwrites device". It can be set to "device overwrites outlook" though.
With myphone it's less clear... apparently, the phone overwrites myphone. But, as myphone will restore the phone after a hard reset, i presume it works that way:
If you connect to myphone and the contact DB on the phone is empty, myphone loads phone with what it has. If the phone already has contacts, they overwrite the ones on myphone.
In any case Outlook is the "master" in the default configuration. After a hard reset, delete old partnership on the PC, connect the phone, create partnership, outlook will restore contacts and stuff onto the phone. Then link to myphone, phone should overwrite myphone.
Now that the sync relationships are established, you can edit a contact on myphone, sync myphone -> modifications will be carried onto phone, then sync phone with outlook and modifications will be carried from phone to outlook. But isn't it easier to just edit in outlook directly?

Thanks i think i have it worked out now, jesus! i think what you say about myphone must be correct.
Balls to this, i'm hitting the sack
hi
Hi,
Another alternative is a new service from Scrubly Duplicate Contacts Remover. The service scans and removes duplicate contacts from your Outlook, Gmail and Google Apps accounts. The nice thing about this service is that it gives you the option of viewing the contacts to be merged in advance and picking and choosing the info you want to merge so you have complete control over the merged data. It also keeps a backup of your contacts. Hope this helps

Duplicate Contacts with Microsoft Myphone

I've had my hd2 for a few months now and I've updated the rom on it a few times, experimenting with both stock and cooked versions. Each time I've used Microsoft Myphone to backup my contacts, caledar, etc. However when I use it to download my contacts, I get duplicates, between 2-5 duplicates.
I've logged into myphone on the web and there is only 1 copy of each contact, any idea what causes this or how to fix it?
Thanks
woah i never had that problem with Myphone, erm, double check myphone page for your account, task 29 your phone and format mem card just couple of things might make a difference,
or long way round delete your duplicates create a new myphone account and then save them to the new account and see if the problems still persist
I also had this problem. Not all contacts are duplicated only some. I think this happens when you close myphone before it has finished doing it's job.
I too had thhis problem. If you log into MyPhone via a pc and look around you will see 'archives'. I deleted these (making sure that the correct contacts were as they should be in the main list).
No more duplicates

Did you delete all the archive contacts? When I looked, there were only 2 duplicates whereas almost all of my contacts on my phone are duplicated.
Thanks

Not sure why it happens, but they seem to know it does, there is a duplicate finder on the my phone page, you can then delete the dupes and sync ...
I deleted all the items in my archive and searched for all duplicates, so I only have 1 on each contact on myphone. I updated my rom and downloaded my contacts again with myphone and still ahd duplicates. I'm starting to think that it's not worth the effort :s I suppose there are other backup apps that will save the same info. The only difference between them and myphone is finding a lost phone, is this feature any good?
..
The problem is when you sync with myPhone and also have synced with outlook contacts..
You can also buy an application on marketplace. Dont remember what its called: something with duplicate.. but it works..
Not really a solution but this software will help you fix duplicate entries:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-trinefix.html
works great i've used it on my HD2 and it's free!
are you restoring a pim backup when you flash?
That would create duplicates once you sync'd with MyPhone ..

No I'm not. On the last flash of the rom, I didn't use any backups and didn't download contacts using windows live as I've done before. I just used myphone service after deleting all the archive items and still got duplicates :s
It's a huge pain because im sure the number of duplicates is growing each time I restore.
That's actually quite weird.
1) Are you backing up any of the folders / files from \Application Data? - I tried that once hoping that it would speed up the configuration process of MyPhone everytime I flashed (which is a LOT!) and it completely screwed everything up.
2) Are you absolutely sure that you haven't set up any Sync options with Windows Mobile Device Center / ActiveSync / Outlook on your desktop?
3) Are you absolutely sure that you don't use Exchange over ActiveSync for emails? (You could have accidentally enabled the Contacts Sync feature) (If you use UC, then you might have provisioned an Exchange Email account and might not realise it)
I have a suggestion.
1) Disable MyPhone
2) Delete all the redundant contacts. (It's painful I know)
3) Use PIM Backup and save all your contacts (as a backup just in case something goes wrong)
4) Hard Reset (Make sure you don't use XDA_UC / SDConfig Customization)
5) Clear out your MyPhone account. Delete EVERYTHING. ALL CONTACTS + ARCHIVES.
6) Restore your PIM Backup contacts.
7) Re-run MyPhone and see how it goes.
Sometimes the best thing with Sync Mechanisms is always to start fresh.

I did another hard reset. Deleted all my tasks and contacts from the web Myphone login.
I'm backing up a few folders, only things like pictures, music and my documents.
I'm using WM Device Center on my desktop and syncing everything except emails, where would those files be kept? I'll see if there are duplicates there.
It happened again, so I'm going to check over my WM Device Centre settings like you suggested. I wonder why that keeps duplicating them though!
Thanks for all the help guys
Found a solution - Duplicates - Microsoft My Phone
Hi All,
I had the same problem on my HTC HD2, and was able to solve it.
Log on to your account at .... microsoft
First remove dublicates on this account by tools available on-screen (Contacts>find dublicates>toggle all>remove dublicates)
Tab on "Connected Phones" on the left.
You should find only one phone connected to your account.
I found two phones, each with a "date added" field corresponding to the date when I installed the "Microsoft Myphone" app on my device.
I installed this application twice, first was when I first bought my phone with stock rom and the second when I installed it after a rom upgrade.
Two phones on your account (Same HTC HD2)will synchronize same contact from each one to your phone!! Does make sense though weired.
Remove all un-needed phones.
Do synchronization again from your phone and all duplicates will vanish.

Thanks, worked for me removing the archive from myphone (it was somehow accumulating contacts and calendar events)

[May 8] [Q] synching issues with contacts

I have just got a new hd2 through my insurance and synched with google to get my contacts back. However I also need to synch with my work exchange to get my appointments. Rather than have 2 synchs - I just used google to save my contacts - I removed the google synch. however this means my contacts dissapear.
Is there any way to keep my contacts on the handset without maintaining the sych?
Cheers

oops if a mod can change the title to have "synching issues with contacts" that would be delightful.

click 'edit post', then 'go advanced', then you can edit the title.
first, i am assuming you are using windows mobile.
second, what i understand is that you want to sync only with your work place server and you somehow need to have your contacts as well.
one option could be to merge your contacts with your work place server.
also, try this...sync with google to get your contacts downloaded back to your device. then use "pimbackup" to back up your contacts to a file on your sd card. then remove the google synch. now, set up your work place synch. finally, restore the pimbackup of contacts you made earlier.
i'm not sure how your work place server would behave now that your device will suddenly have all of these contacts restored from your backup. the partnership MIGHT cause your contacts to merge into your work place server automatically, which could be a good thing because then you would have everything on one server to sync with.
cheers I will try pimbackup.
I want to keep my personal / works stuff (contacts) separate, however I want my appointments on my work calender. I refuse to use my minutes for work lol.
so I only synch contacts on google and calender on exchange.
@ASCIIker
synch google, pim backup, remove synch, pimrestore worked.
Cheers
that pimbackup is a GEM of an app!
highly recommended for those that want to stick with windows mobile. i used to have it automatically back up (to my sd card) all my contacts, call logs, and sms messages every 3 days. i had set the process to take place at midnight every 3 days and the whole operation (300 call logs, 300+ contacts, and 7000+ sms messages) would take a meager 1.5 minutes on the HD2!!! restoring was just as fast, except for sms messages (because sms message restore triggers "re-threading" of conversation threads).
on android, setting up the device with a google account handles contacts. an app called "sms backup and restore" handles sms backups (have it set to 3 days here as well). but have found NO app on android that neatly backs up and restores call logs, let alone all THREE items (call logs, contacts, and sms messages)!
cheers from pakistan!
