As the subject indicates i have ****ed up the smsc number in phonetester. I got 3 denmark as operator and one of my friends who also got 3 have told me that the smsc number should say:" +4531300000" but when i type it in it just erase it self, and when i touch the refresh button the number automatic changes to 00 or says refresh error, what am i doing wrong?

I don't think you can correct that SMSC using your Nexus S.
I was in the same situation. There is nothing you can do.
If you search the internet, you will find quite some reports. Certainly, this is Android bug or limitation (which cannot change SMSC in that format).
So, dont panic
Get an old phone like Nokia or Windows Mobile or even an iPhone. Change the SMSC there and put back in your Nexus S.
That's it!
Whoala, it should work!
I did that with my old Win Mo device.

Thanks for your answer. Do you know how i change smsc on a Nokia 6700?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
yes you can.
to update the SMSC in android,
the number first need to be encoded
please use below url to encode the SMSC
http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
for example, if your SMSC is number is +4531300000,
after encode, it is 0691541303000011
put this in the info page, and it will work.

Many thanks for this info. My SMSC is now configured again.
To all who are curious:
Type in the SMSC number into the converter (no need for any message) and copy the first several digits until and including the "11". Android will cut this number down to a number without the "11" on the update process, so don't be surprised. Afterwards it should work again.
Insert another Sim Card with same provider to your device --> Write the SMSC --> Insert your Sim Card --> Update your SMSC with SMSC that has you writted
Hope it's help
Sorry for bad english
This thread saved my day. For those on Koodo the SMSC is +16475800172 and once converted is 07916174850071F211.

Hi, i found your thread because i can't update my smsc error number. My provider (who is spanish) give me a number but when i try to update it on my pixel 2 xl it appears update error.
i try to understand your thread but i don't understand what number i have to take and where i should put it. If someone can help me that would be lovely because even my own provider have poor advices.
I know how to access to the interface to update the number but i don't know how to do it. I tried with an other phone a bluboo, but as i understand from your thread it could be too recent to update it correctly ?
Here my smsc number +34622996111, if someone can help me, it will be awesome,

Hi,
How I see the name when I recived de SMS, no number?
Exemple: +34698977xxx ==> Pepito
thanks
I also had some problems with that at first. I had some numbers saved as 0155-1234567 = Maria
But when Maria called, I saw +491551234567 in the screen and also in the call history. So I saved that number to Maria's contact file and then it was fine.
The weird thing is that with other contacts I did not have that problem although they were saved just like Maria.
Maybe someone else has an explanation for that?
In the mean time, just save the number that called you into the corresponding contact and it should work next time that person calls you. At least it worked for me.

I'm sure that is the solution.
Also, at risk of veering slightly off-topic, it's worth adding that if you store all your numbers in that full international format starting with +, then you should be able to dial from anywhere (including roaming in different countries) and the phone will connect correctly.

Yes, that is true. I realized that when I went on vacation out of the country and tried to call home. I dialed 049..... as you would on a land line, but it did not work. It only worked if I dialed +49....
So it is a good idea to have all your numbers in that format.
I think for international numbers it should kick off with a double 0. That is 0049... or alternatively,and as you say, +49...

Oops - you're right. I meant to type 0049.
If calling from a European country you dial 00-country code.
If calling from the U.S. you would dial 011-country code.
Can someone clarify if WM7 will show both the full name and company for incoming calls.
I save all my contacts in outlook and use the File As to show both Person & Company i.e. John Smith(ABC Ltd).
I have over 1500 contacts for work and it's one of the features that has kept me with Windows for years.
I've tried Android and that doesn't do it. Iphone doesn't do it. Nokia doesn't do it - Not sure about Blackberry.
Also does WM7 have smart dial - I'm sure I read that it didn't, again it's a feature that's kept me with Windows, I have a shocking memory and being able to dial by first name, last name, company or telephone number is invaluble.
Cheers
Pete
For me it shows only 1st and last name + picture if available. Company info is a no go as long as you don't incorporate it in the contact name itself as I usually do.
Smartdial: No. But searching the contact list is easy. Just type 2-3 letters and you have narrowed the results enough. I'm saying this with 700+ contacts.
...I very much like to use voice dial, too. Very reliable, in fact, and fast.

Dear All,
I'm experiencing very strange issue with my WP7 HTC HD2, when receiving call form my saved contacts.
Almost all my contacts are saved in my phone with international dialing code as I'm living abroad.
When I receive call abroad, the name of my contact is displayed.
When I receive call at home the name is not displayed, only the number is displayed and I dont know who is calling while the number is saved in my phone with international dialing code.
To have the name displayed I have to save the number again without international dialing code.
I have the same issue when I dialing also.

Try with the method described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907169
It works perfectly!
This is how we enter the Message Center / SMSC number in the CM7 build ( as the messaging app doesnt allow us to update the sms number )
First Search for your SMS center number from Google
The go to the following link : http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
Towards the center there is a section which has Sender reciever and message on the righthandside, now enter your message center number including the + ( ex - +919845087001 ) leave the reciever and the message blank and hit convert.
Now the first 16 digits is SMSC number, note that and follow the steps below on your android phones
Here you are:
1. Go to Phone Dialer, and press: *#*#4636#*#*
2. Select Phone information
3. Scroll down to bottom of the screen, you'll see the field for SMSC setting.
4. [Optional] Click Refresh to see current SMSC number.
5. Change the SMSC number as you want. Then, click Update

I was in a similar situation as somehow my SMSC number was updated to 00 and my SMSs were not getting delivered. Followed the steps from the OP and now all is well
This solution worked for me the best:
Code:
AT+CSCA="+380910440601",145
OK
AT+CSCA?
+CSCA: "+380910440601", 145
OK
The manual for +CSCA command is easily googlable. (can't post actual link because of spam protection)
I could only receive sms and not send. I am glad I found this thread. Followed the instructions from first post exactly and all is well again, and now I know what the smsc setting is for and to not delete it

Try using quotes.
Source: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/SMSC_Updates#Updating_your_Phone.2FTablet
Or you can try entering your SMSC number through an older phone. Ex: in my s3 i wasn't able to change the number neither from messaging app nor *#*#4636#*#*. So i put my sim card in my older phone (nokia 6131) and tried to send a message and then a popup appeared requesting to type that center number (without quotes) and it was confirmed correctly, sending the message after that.

Hi all,
after hitting *#*#4636#*#*
i am unable to retrieve the SMSC nor update the number keyed in.
for example singapore singtel: +6596197777
After i click on update it gives me update error.
Does not matter which rom nor radio i use it all wont work.
Can help?
Are you not receiving any SMS? Why are you trying to modify this? When I was on Starhub and my girlfriend on Singtel we never had any SMS issues. Are you trying to forward them elsewhere?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
i am trying to send sms but unable to so i went to update the SMSC using the numbers given by singtel.
The problem is that i can recieve sms but not able to send them.
Phone is unlocked, rooted and flashed with cm 2.3.4 kanged.
That is quite odd we never had any issues like that on my nexus one or either of our nexus s phones while we were there. Our nexus s phones were stock but my nexus one was constantly having new roms flashed on it and never experinced that on Singtel or Starhub. Have you tried wiping the phone and reinstalling your rom?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
yes done all that, and mixed and match different radios and roms to test but to no avail.
Have you flashed a stock backup image? One that isn't rooted? Did you have any of these problems before rooting? After rooting? Was it only after you started flashing roms?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Call tour service provider and have your SIM repushed
Sent from my Nexus S
sim card was reset by singtel (Telco)
Rom was flash with stock, cm7 etc etc all types of radio
The only solution left is to update it with another SIM card
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and I solved it by *#*#4636#*#*, phone information, press menu button, select radio band. Select the one that should be good for you then re-enter your smsc number and it might work.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The reason why it doesn't hold is that you cannot enter and save the number as +xxxzxxxhhff. You have to convert it to a smsc + pdu format.
Google it up.
An alternative would be to put the sim card in an old phone (non smart phone) and change the centre number there, save it and transfer back the sim in your phone.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Right before you posted that i did that.
Problem solved
SIM card missing SMSC number. Place into old phone(non-smart phone) or another phone and input SMSC number then place SIM card back to NS. Done!
Thanks for the help
I realised after keying in ur smsc number via another phone. I powered back my nexus s again and went into *#*#4636#*#* it still shows up as blank.
In the nexus s, to enter smsc number, you first have to convert it to pdu format.

Thx for ur hint @ deeren.
Hah, i managed to fix my SMS problem with ur hint.
I tried to update my SMSC for Orange Switzerland using +41787777070
Phone crashed on updating.
Then i converted the number using this page into PDC format.
AT+CMGW=17
07911487777770F011000091sasdda0000AA00000000000000
Updated the SMSC using 07911487777770F0 and voilĂ , im able to send SMS again
Btw, maybe there is a better page/tool to convert the SMSC number into PDU, cause the link i found converts the whole stuff and not just the smsc. And therefore u have to snip the correct hex-nums out of the complete string.
//update: its quite easy to snip the exact numbers out of the whole string.
First Number = Length of SMSC Info -> In my Case 07 -> SMSC has a length of 7
07911487777770F0[/B]11000
7 Hexdups -> 91 14 87 77 77 70 F0
Complete SMSC PDU => LengthInfo + NumOfHexdups
Update2:
@rallos, for +6596197777 it SHOULD be
0691566991777711000091sasdda0000AA00
Means: Enter 06915669917777 as your SMSC number
Code:
0691566991777711000091sasdda0000AA00
nn112233445566
nn=length of smsc=06
11=1st hex=91
22=2nd hex=56
33=3rd hex=69
44=4rd hex=91
55=5rd hex=77
66=6th hex=77
Results in 06915669917777

This has bitten me too previously, why is the NS's SMSC number in a different format? I know SGS we can enter the number straight as it is in the same screen.
Try Go SMS Pro
I have been struggling and struggling to change the SMSC on my G2X CM7.1 using *#*#4636#*#* to no avail. I kept getting "update error". I could not send sms. I can change the number using the Go SMS Pro in the settings and now I can send sms.

This works for me. I used a old nokia phone. I've found the fix after years of searching. Relief!
Hi,
I've been using the Nexus 4 for over a month and I'm prety annoyed by a "bug" that I think there is on the phone.
I have all my contacts with their numbers complete (including country code) so for example numbers are: +54-911-3644-0386.
When I get a call from anyone on my contacts, most of the time, the phone properly recognizes the contact even if the number is shown as saved (with the +54) or if its only received as 11-3644-0386.
Now, my problem is on the call log. Most of the time it only shows the numbers, not the contact names. Please see attached call log with examples of what I'm talking about. In the two pictures, you'll see the number in the example above (Maria Rocio Antelo) recognized one time and shown as a number on the other.
Is there a way to resolve this? I've been using (prior of the nexus 4) my Galaxy Captivate with a LANIGHTv5.2_NODATADATA ROM and this issue wasn't present.

Mauricio Jancic

I would add the number to your phone book as in the new number to your phone book. For example if you're phone log showed 123-456-789. Then I would add that number to your phonebook. Each contact can have various different numbers. It is frustrating, but that would be the simplest way to solve it. Another method would be using an alternative dialer.

Each contact can have various different numbers. It is frustrating, but that would be the simplest way to solve it. Another method would be using an alternative dialer.

Thanks, I tryed it and it works, but wasn't what I wanted as a solution
It's odd that other JB ROM worked just fine and, also, that upon receiving the call the ID is propperly displayed (the caller is identified from the phonebook).

Mauricio

Well, then why don't you try a ROM for Nexus 4, since it worked on a different device with a custom ROM. I don't believe the stock dialer has very many functions. That may be one of the problems.
