[Q] New MyTouch 4g Rom Question - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Just got a new Mytouch 4G Black after my nexus one broke and After Rooting the phone and playing around with some roms. I find it a lil odd that I still find the Stock Rom with Bloatware much better and cleaner rom than whats out there. Seems its fast its useful and entertaining to work with.
Has anyone else felt that way about the stock rom being superior to custom roms?

yes I do somewhat like the stock rom that was shipped. Only issue for me is I can use majority of the apps on there since Im not with tmobile. It is fairly fast and overall good performance. Ice glacier is basically same and then CM7 is nice as well. Not too many roms out there currently with the mytouch, missed the nexus one somewhat for roms. Other than that this phone is great, battery life typically two days with cm7

Agreed... A rooted Stock ROM is already great as is, and so far the only customized ROM I've been happy with is Iced Glacier, Its coz its pretty much stock without the bloatware. I remember the days of the Nexus One where I had to flash ROM's 2-3x a day. whew!

What is the best "like stock" rom to use?

Hi,
I'm selling my spare EVO to a friend of mine and I want it to be as close to stock as I can get it. I'm currently running the MIUI rom which is neat... but terrible as far as features go. Market links rarely work which is a huge problem.
Obviously, if there is a rom that increases battery life and speeds with a stable kernel, that would be fine. But I don't want to have Cyanogen or MUIU on this when giving it to a friend.
Thanks!
Fresh 3.3.0.1

Well that's fine... I just know there are so many other roms that may offer a few added benefits. Obviously I want the EVO to have the best experience possible, but I want stuff like 4G to work too. I hyped up android quite a bit to convince my friend not to get an iPhone
+1 for stock rom.
Throw 3.29 on, root with unrevoked, remove bloat and install must use root apps (wireless tether, titanium, root explorer, etc...)
Show him how to customize and let him tinker after he familiarizes himself with aOS
As much as I love the dev community, I would not install a custom rom to anyone just starting out on android - because of the issues with features not working and bugs. You're opening yourself up being an on call tech support

KingXKlick rom is pretty close to stock rom IMO and very stable as well.
Ava,damage and fresh are all great stock rom, it's a matter of personal choice once you try them out...

If you are already rooted, you can get the rooted stock rom.

YACROX10 - Yet another custom ROM on X10

This post is me just posting my thoughts about this phone mostly. nothing really important.
So after having the stock 2.3.3 ROM on my phone i finally decided on getting Wolbreak's WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread V3.9.0 ROM. I was sick of the way the stock rom was running or not running i should say.
I got this phone from AT&T as a x10a - suffered with the 1.6 then made it the x10i and went to 2.1, then went to a few custom ROM's and did various things with it. Now being updated to 2.3.3 was really good and an improvement but the OS still had some bugs and i was waiting for the community to come up with some custom ROMs. Now running on the ROM mentioned above i feel like i can really enjoy my phone.
I'm looking forward to messing around with this, hopefully things will be working good and i can flash my dad's x10i as well (as i have been doing constantly).
Many thanks to the guys that make this possible for us! You guys rock!

How is that working for you?
I'm still running on stock SE ROM but with all available add-ons.
I don't find it really that buggy, in fact imo it's less buggier than tweaked ones. i've tried 5 then went back to stock.

Miui

Just so everyone knows I've been running miui 9.2 for about an hour now and no wifi drops. I didn't see it posted yet and can't post in that thread yet. Found it on rom manager.

Running flawlessly since early Friday, MIUI.us 9.2. It just keeps getting better. Kick-in wildstang83's DTR method, and it's a great Android experience. I've stuck with MIUI.us for a long time, and it's really grown to something beautiful.

Just flashed it yesterday. My first time on a AOSP rom and I love it.

it's a lot more pretty than CM7 in a lot of ways but it can have it's laggy/buggy moments, particularly the launcher (little on the slow side)
I use a different launcher anyways. I dont like the MIUI iPhone style icons.
When i first try the MIUI roms, it was an amazing rom, but by the updates and all, it get bugged and bugged, i get back to sense <3.
I ran MIUI when it first got released, did not really like it. I installed it again figuring i have a long weekend i will give it a run. Damn i think i'm in love. the customization is crazy and quick. the rom is buttery smooth. I am having a few problems with handcent and plume but nothing deal breaking. Great rom my new daily driver.
I also installed this rom over the weekend and so far so good. I have all my apps sorted in folders which makes things much easier
Have been running MIUI since May, updating every week with new releases and I can't go to another ROM. I have tried but I end up running right back to MIUI. Really amazing work.
I've been debating whether or not to install it, haven't been able to take the plunge yet. Looks like a great ROM tho
I have run miui quite a few times, but cm7 has always been the most reliable for me... just my opinion.

The key I've found to MIUI is to find a version that runs bug free on your phone and stick with it until another comes out with an update that you really care about. I generally keep the version I'm on for ~1 month because I don't want to deal with the chance of that weeks minor updates screwing something up.
Is it just me or is half this ROM in chineese. Have I messed up or is that just the nature of this ROM

Did you download from miui.us? Or from somewhere else. Miui.us takes care of all of the translation into English and I haven't seen any Chinese in the builds I run from them.

There's Chinese in the online section of the theme manager but that's really all I've ever seen.

It is a good Rom, the dev team knows what they are doing. However with a stock interface that leaves a lot to be desired in the customization department..... I switched to adw launcher.... then figured why not go back to cm7 that has adw as it's native launcher.....
Um, did you notice the theme manager?

Good ROM to try out?

hey guys iv been rooted since day 1 and iv been on KINGS ROM since day 1 as well!
but i want to get off of kings rom and try out new stable rom. what are the good ones out there?
If you never use your 4G, then MIUI is the ROM for you. It's fast, stable, and energy-efficient despite all the "bugs" people ramble about. It's also very customizable and updates every Friday to ensure you always get the latest versions and bug fixes.

I can't wait to get my hands on a stable ICS rom. It will just give us EVO owners that much more shelf life.
Question, I know there is an Alpha for ICS in the works right now. Do the developers already have everything they need to develop the rom or does a phone like the Galaxy Nexus which will have ICS stock have to come out first?
As for a good current rom, I'm running Mik 2.61, very clean, stable and great battery life. It's a Sense rom, different themes are available.

I am really enjoying using [ROM]11/22/11 RCMix3d Runny® ☰SENSE 3.5 Blue/Glass

passing on my n1 to my wife..

I've had my N1 for 2 years now and it's time to move on.
I rooted and plagued it with custom roms, however, since my wife is not tech savvy and want to install a stable, easy rom to use.
Should I revert back to total stock or CM7.1 stable?
Suggestions?
There are quite a few rock stable ROMs out now, its going to be a matter of what you think she'll enjoy.
Stock ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312540 )
SuperOSR ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195656 )
OxygeN1mod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214543 )
CM7 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297542 )
"Stock" MIUI ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117708 )
OMN1GB ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336059 )
Hope that helps man
Its pretty big of you to give your N1 to your wife, I told my wife when I retire mine, its going in a safe place in the closet LOL.
that's great man, thanks!
probably i'll go with stock....
Yeah after 2 years of custom ROMs I've returned to stock and I'm actually quite happy with it, nice and stable and I don't actually miss any of the root features (yet)
Cheers
My gf loves miui as i do myself. Im gonna bet she would enjoy miui the best.

I had CM7, although my phone for the last 6 months was plagued with the call delay issue (I know it was unrelated to CM7). I finally got round to going back to stock and now I have no issues with call delay, and to be honest I can't be bothered going back ;-)

I second MIUI as the ROM of choice for Nexus. This is the most functional ROM for Nexus as it comes, without sacrificing speed. Stock lacks way too many useful things, starting with a decent dialer.
CM7
For me CM7 would be the best choice, then stock!
Let me make it easy on you...
Put it back to stock.
Then when she messes it up or something doesn't work she can't blame your modding.
Save yourself the agony.

is this the MIUI that you guys are talking about and recommend? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117708
and also I just flash it like I normally do with CM7? ie. just reboot into recovery, wipe, flash. and would I also have to flash the gapps like I do with CM7?
Or you could install stock ICS. Looks like it'll be fairly stable and feature-complete in a week or so!

You could've just checked in the Dev forum! Both require the Blackrose HBOOT (with a custom partition system), but TexasIce does have a stripped out version for a stock HBOOT.
