YouTube does not login says Connection Error - There was a connection error trying to login.
I thought it would be nice to automatically upload the videos to YouTube but going to settings and data services then choosing YouTube it insists there is a connection problem but I surf just fine and am always connected to 3g. anyone knows what is the problem? Thanks.
yeah same problem on mine hd2 when i'm trying to upload video directly from albums i get the same message, looking for answer for whole day - still nothing...any ideas guys?
I had the same problem when trying to log into the facebook data sync feature when I first got the phone. Basically I think your problem is that your youtube password has symbols in it, because my old facebook password had symbols in it when I tried to log in it would say "connection error" but then if I tried to log in with an incorrect password it said "incorrect password" so I changed my facebook password so it was just letters and numbers and it worked on the first time I tried,
hope this helped you,
Alex

Nope that is not the problem, I changed my password to 8 chars digits only still doesn't work at all. I gotta say this is my 4th and probably last HTC device. There are always irritating bugs in HTC software in most basic features. Damn it, the YouTube login is an internal feature of HTC software and even that doesn't work, these guys are really something. What's the use in having features if I cannot use them like the youtube, which woule have been nice uploading videos directly to YouTube.

Calm down mate. It works perfectly for me and everyone else most of the time. Occassionaly, there will be an issue with the YouTube servers that stops the app functioning fully. It's nothing to do with the app or HTC, so get onto YouTube and complain to them, because that's where the problem is. Otherwise, it wouldn't be intermittent. It just wouldn't work, or it would.
mine has never worked

There are similar complains about the YouTube account access not working in many other forums, mostly from users who have switched to 1.66 ROMs. As a matter of fact, it does not work for me either through the settings tab/data services.
On the other hand, I can easily log into my YouTube account through Opera...
can you upload through opera?

i dont have t-mobile and when i started my HD2 for the first time i also got that error.. after rom upgrade to 1.66 the same.. my password is only letters and 1 number so that cant be the problem.
johncmolyneux please get your facts right.
It is NOT a problem with youtube and it didn't work for the past 3 days. So I doubt it's a problem with their servers don't you think?
Also see what others are saying like Tomo1340 which says it never worked for him also. tictac0566 says the same thing and also jamieeeee. So I am not hallucinating and this is not a very specific problem.
It's just another bug by HTC. I can't believe these guys, when they release a new ROM they fixed some issues and then create others. Amazing, how such an apparent bug missed their eyes. In which from their very own app trying to login to YouTube doesn't work.
It would have been very nice to able to capture a video and instantely upload it to the YouTube through the camcorder app, wouldn't it?
May I also say that I have two HD2, one for me and one for my wife. I have tested it after hard reset with no app installed at all and it still doesn't work! Amazing.. By the way, I am not using T-Mobile and my password is just 8 digits.

Fine. Good luck with your anti-HTC campaign. I DID get my facts right and you simply didn't like it.
Think I'll go and upload some vids to YouTube now. Bye
there is a problem though, I hadn't managed to upload a single file or even connect on any of the roms I have used. my password is 12 characters with no symbols. is one supposed to login with a google email address that's linked to YouTube or a user name?
The Youtube function in Sense just doesn't work at all. You'd better simply use the browser.
john says his works. you can email the files through but I don't know how well it works.
Like I said, it's fine for me. It may be a provider issue, but it's definitely not HTC software at fault here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqVH9sOyh7g
doesn't work over WiFi for me.
It does not work with me either. Whenever I try to upload to youtube it says there is some connection error. Using opera to login to youtube works like a charm.
My password is very long (more than 20 characters) and I think that this could be the problem. But I do not want to change my password, because it's the same password as for gmail and I have set this account on multiple computers and on the HD2.
The way around is to use email - YouTube -> My Account -> Account Settings -> Mobile Setup. There you can find a unique email address to which you can send the video. Just add that email address as a contact and send the video to it when you want to upload to youtube. Works perfectly...
works fine for me on everyrom I've tried..
I suspect it's an isp blocking thing, maybe a proxy interfering.
As some of you know, you can now place FREE calls to anywhere in the US or Canada using GMail and the "voice and video chat plugin". You can also receive calls from within GMail if you have a GoogleVoice account and you set it up to forward GoogleVoice calls to "Google Chat" as well as your phone(s).
This is awesome! I can now answer calls from GMail instead of my phone. I wish the desktop GoogleTalk app did that so I wouldn't have to always keep a webbrowser page open to GMail, but that is not what this post is about...
I got to thinking: if GMail can place and receive free phone calls, why can't I do that on my phone (or any device with internet)? I downloaded every available webbrowser for Android and tried to surf to GMail, but none of them even loaded the page (???), much less the plugin.
While searching for any possible solution, I learned that the required "voice and video chat plugin" is available for Linux. This fact makes me almost positive that it is somehow possible for someone to develop an Android app that loads that plugin, logs in to GMail (spoofing a desktop browser), and displays the Pop-out dial pad capable of placing and receiving free calls!
Is anyone up to the challenge? This is huge people! FREE phone where ever there is internet. I hope someone can make this happen on Android devices, since it already works perfect on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
EDIT: Lots of info in the SIPdroid thread I found after posting this, but it still would be nice to just make an XMPPdroid app and not have to deal with connecting Jabber to SIP. If my linux PC can make free Google VOIP calls without setting up additional SIP and PBXes accounts, then my Android phone should be able to too.
Great idea! Im sure others are working on it. Im all for free calling wherever there is internet. Not sure if the cell phone carriers ate gonna like it.

I've thought the same, currently I'm using SipDroid>pbxes>sipsorcery>sipgate>GV. Anything a bit simpler would be great. Plus when i try to hook up a friend, at least one of those sites aren't open to the public;gizmo is a simpler setup, hasnt been open since google bought it and has been sitting on it ever since. If I find anything I'll post here
this would be really nice. cell carriers are already ripping us off unnecessarily. this would give us some ways out
PBXes added support for the gtalk trunk recently and their latest sipdroid application can even set that all up for you today. In the end you'll have sipdroid->pbxes->gtalk with direct dialing.
I've been using it for a week or so now and it works better than any other solution I've tried, except for a sipdroid/android bug where a bluetooth disconnect causes the phone to reboot.
Has anyone been able to do video chat via Google's Chat? I seem unable to do so, and I cannot find Talk in the Market ...although I don't know if it would support video on this tablet or not.

Used it earlier today to talk with my brother in mexico, it worked exceedingly well.
iirc, it comes already installed.
Its a native google app, not a market app.
I couldnt get it to work intially but it turns out its tied to my google apps account for some reason. Once i signed out of the apps account and signed in with a regular gmail account it worked beautifully chatting with my girlfriend over 4g tethering on my Evo. I cant wait until someone gets 2.3.4 working on the Evo so we can have the android phone/chat functionality.
i've used it chatting with my wife, works well.
Argh...I thought I looked for Talk on it and didn't find it, but alas, it is there. ( I had to install it from market on my phone, so assumed I had to do the same thing here).
Sounds good. I presume this does work with Google Chat...so if someone is on their PC and Browser (not signed into Talk) it would work. Seems to me like at some point I had to join a Talk account with Google.
Thanks folks.
for tablet to pc video chat, the person on the pc needs to be in the browser (like a gmail window) and have the video plugin installed.
I use it with my Google Apps account no problem.
The sound quality from the other side isn't great... I don't know if Talk is crap, the other computer is crap, or the speakers on the TF are crap...
Nice to have video chat though, I just wish Samsung would release 2.3.4 for Galaxy S II
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.skymobius.vtok

I was experimenting with this earlier today with a coworker that has an iphone 4g. I think vtok nuked some of the video quality but it worked.
Not sure what when wrong, but I no longer have any contact pictures, only Skype contacts have pictures now. In google pictures are still in place, they simply disappeared from the phone contacts. I have a strong suspicion that this happened after recent update of Skype... Anyone faced a similar problem? And how shell I restore pictures now???

Have you tried to go to Contacts(People) and checked on settings which contacts are displayed? If that's not the case try to unlink your Gmail account from your phone...but that means you would have to reset.

I tried to go to People->Accounts-> chose my google account. There was an option to force syncing. It showed me that everything is synced now. Yet there are no pictures!

You have to go in to Settings>Accounts>Google, then select your account. Then hit your menu in top right corner and remove the account.
Then you re add it and it will sync up.
However removing the account will delete all messages, and other data from it.
So if you want to save the data or messages better back them up first.
somehow I was hoping there is a more elegant way of sorting this out....
This skype, it only brings more and more trouble with every next version, should have removed it years ago!
somehow I was hoping there is a more elegant way of sorting this out............
well:
1) Go to GMail contacts in your computer (not on the phone).
2) Select ALL your contacts or only My Contacts and mark them as "Starred in Android".Or even better: make a new label lets call it "repair" and mark all the contacts/my contacts as "repair"
3) The previous step forces Google to sync the contacts in GMail with the phone (with picture and all). It will take a while depending on the number of contacts that you have, so be patient and leave the phone alone while it is doing the sync.
4) After some 10 or 15 minutes (I have about 300 contacts), all the pics of GMail contacts appeared on my phone
5) Now, go you may to GMail contacts again and select ALL your contacts and uncheck the "Starred in Android" or "repair" option. Again, this will take a few minutes while GMail syncs with your phone.
I prefer to use only "My contacts" as it will be logical thats the only place with pictures in it.
----
By the way. I have the idea that, as soon as you restart Skype on your Android your pictures dissappear again.
Be very careful with contacts on your phone who lost there picture. If you edit one of them on your phone it will synch to Google of course without the picture.
------
So no Skype to be used?
Thanks Microsoft. But I fully understand that it is very difficult for such a small company to make decent software.
P.s. A part of this solution I stole from another forum. Unfortunately cannot find anymore where I got it from to give the full credits to.
I just copied it in my Evernote.
P.s. 2: I have a galaxy II so I suppose this thread should be under Android software.
That was a good advise indeed! I managed to restore contact pictures. Then I started skype again - and now I have no more pictures again. So I can definitely say this problem is due to skype... So now I have dilemma: either live without contact pictures, or live without skype... Nice

Oh yes, it is really strange that this problem is not bothering anyone... Or is it just me who have this problem?? I tried to google it, thinking that maybe there is a solution somewhere in skype settings. But I could not find anything! For the moment I just disabled contact syncing with skype via telephone settings. Let's see if it helps...

Disable Skype contact synching! That's seems to solve it. Great idea. never thought about that option.

Even I had the same issue and had to disable Skype syncing so that i get the pictures back.
How can MS release the update without testing it properly!
Also, there is nobody on the internet talking about it except some few of us...i don;t know why aren't they bothered at all...as good as nobody noticed it...

Happened to me too yesterday. Microsoft..yey!
Quick fix with ON/OFF starred contacts in android.
Definitely stop syncing Skype contacts! :good:
There's already a thread by me about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351825
I wasn't sure it was caused by Skype until just now, when I found this thread and similar thread on Skype forums - http://community.skype.com/t5/Andro...ing-all-non-Skype-contact-photos/td-p/1735257
And so do many others, probably... They don't blame Skype, I think.
i actually have the same problem.( GALAXY S4 ) it started about a week ago, contact pictures decided to dissappear, after i updated skype, im gonna try to uncheck the contact sync for skype and will report back
Sure - Skype
Same problem - HTC Desire X. After installing Skype 4 update all contacts photos (Google) disappeared. Syncing via Starred, after Skype sync photos again disappeared. Uninstall Skype 4, install 3.2 = contacts photos OK, but Skype contats synced only cca half... and without avatars.

LOL, I just couldn't live without skype.
But you can alter to Whats app or viber.
Recently I use Wechat. That's a instant messaging app from a Chinese firm. Convenient but still Skype holds most users.

Did you try to change the settings IN Skype where you can opt for NOT synchronizing contacts?
That should be enough.
Skype works fine with that option switched of..
And it will show all your existing Skype contacts.

Hello,
Just got the S4 yesterday and theres a few things I cant get working/understand!
Firstly, when streaming video, from sources such as youtube or ted, it doesnt stream in full HD, it almost looks like standard definition. (this is streaming via wifi, not mobile data, i have also checked to make sure it is actually trying to stream HD)
Secondly is the email app, it is only showing me old emails from years ago? It only seems to have an "older" folder and isnt showing any new mail at all.
Could anyone help me out?
Thanks

Yea i installed the latest youtube, also tried just streaming it from the web browser but made no difference. At first I had compared the steam to my old phone, and my old phone looked much much better, which was very confusing given the s4's display reputation. But ive put some hd videos on the phone manually and the picture is amazing. Its just streaming services which are poor.
I have also updated the handset, there was a 600mb update as soon as i turned it on.
The email is really bizarre, and very annoying. I know I could get a third party email client from the play store, but theres enough apps/bloatware already on the phone so i'd like to use the in built email app!

Stock email works fine. Just change the setting of sync emails for 3 days only. Then wait for some time (Give it time to sync.) It will sync emails.
BTW you mean email for exchange or something? not gmail?

Yes, indeed the syncing of gmail mails was a pain at first on my S4. But there is an app in the google play store called "push notification fixer" That allows your emails to be pushed to your phone in an orderly manner on delivery. Hope this fixes your issue with the email syncing
