Help with Mistadman's recovery - Streak 5 General

Ok... sorry if this is a noobie question here. I have successfully flashed mistadman's recovery using his instruction via fastboot and everything worked great. My question is, how do I get back to the recovery menu without having to connect to my pc and run fastboot commands? Is there a simple button combo I need to press? Is there an update.pkg file I need to have on my sd card to easily access this menu? I would like to have access to the menu pictured below on the go and not have to connect to my pc. Thanks

Shut down your Streak.
Power it up and when the three buttons light up hold down the + and - volumes keys at the same time. You do not need to keep holding the power button.
Hope this works for you. It should.

Already tried that. It just goes to the stock 4 option screen. I need to know if I have to connect my phone everytime I want to get into recovery
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

Instructions
Power up holding the up and down volume buttons until it boots into the dell recovery option screen. Choose option 2. It will boot into custom recovery. If it boots into screen will dell logo and triangle tap the power button once and you should now be in the custom recovey menu screen. Good luck.

The phone is set to auto delete any recovery images and defaults to the stock dell 4 option recovery screen... I know how to get into recovery by using the button commands... My question is, is there a way to get in without having to flash recovery using fastboot commands each time I want to enter recovery? In other words, is there a way I can prevent the streak from auto deleting the customer recovery and replacing it with dell's?

I have also been looking for the answer to this. Is it possible to prevent the Dell recovery from overwriting a custom recovery without installing a custom ROM?

yes you can accomplish this by moving/renaming or deleting the "mtd1" file in /dev/mtd
You can do this either with an app like root explorer or via command prompt/terminal and adb shell.
and ofcourse you must be rooted to mess around with system files.

The phone is working great for me. I am not interested in performance scores, just usability. I wanted the custom recovery so that I could add a few simple mods, like a different battery icon. I'm not at the point where I see the benefits of a custom ROM/kernel out-weighing the risks, yet.

No probs at all for me.

[Q] Droid X Overclock help, 2.2 OTA. Is there a kernel?

Hey guys, I'm running Froyo OTA on my DX and I was wondering if someone could help me speed this bad boy up a bit. I want to overclock just a little so my PSX Emulator will run a bit smoother. I am fairly new to the Android community and do not have much knowledge when it comes to this stuff.
I have SetCPU but it only goes up to stock CPU speed. I have come to understand that I need a new kernel that will allow me to bump it up over stock clock.
I do not want to go too high (Was thinking around 1.1Ghz, maybe a little higher?) because from what I understand, it is already clocked pretty high out of the factory. If anyone can help me understand a bit better I would greatly appreciate it.
I need to find the correct kernel and figure out how to install or whatever without turning my phone into a paper weight.
Help please?
You can't OC the DX on the Froyo yet. We could do it on 2.1 but not 2.2.
Also, the PSX emulator is not coded very well and the stuttering and horrible playing experience on it is due to bad coding and also a fairly weak GPU on the DX.
If you want the best gaming experience at this point in time, get the Sanding Fascinate. Its CPU and especially GPU runs circles around the DX. However, you will still have to wait until the coding gets better for that emulator.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Yes- you do need a custom kernel and there aren't any yet. The bootloader is locked and they are working on cracking it. Until then- no goodski.
Thanks, but there is a new problem...
Ah, I see. So I wait then. haha, but I have a new problem now.. I installed Tranquility and now all my stupid phone does when I power up is show the loading screen. It's been doing it for a good 15 minutes now. I know it is off subject but can someone tell me how to remove this Rom?

Well the first and most important question is - did you back up your original rom before you loaded tranquility- bc if not - it is bad news. If you backed up- then you can restore your back up. If you didn't- well- I am not sure what you can do. I will wait to hear if you have a back up.
If you can't figure it out, you could flash the newly released sbf.

Yes- just in time- you can now restore your system bc the SBF was just leaked last night. Google...
VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01
and you will be directed to several sites that have the file hosted.
That is just great news! I have to find a way to charge my battery though... I am friends with a few of the verizon guys so maybe I can get them to charge my battery on one of the DX's in the store. Thanks guys, I'll try the new VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01.sbf!
u dont have to use 2.2 SBF. if you can reload back to ClockworksMod Recovery, dl the OTA 2.2 Deodexed Update.zip file here.

Got it to 1.15 Ghz, I managed to get it stable at 1.17 Ghz. still tinkering though.

Signature verication failed.

Hi peeps, I'm looking to install a custom kernal like Phoenix 1.49 or Xtreme 1.0 and possibly a custom rom. Everytime I've tried to flash them via Rom Manager/CWM it says Signature Verification Failed. What am I doing wrong. Titanium Backup says I have Superuser access so I believe I still have root. I bought the paid Rom Manager so I could do all this but I am still getting this error. It's really starting to push me towards the edge. I'm off work till the 3rd of January due to knee surgery so I decided to read up on rooting and flashing custom roms and kernels. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Someone please help me.
Thanks
Tom
Did you use the one click root with clockwork mod? You can't use Rom manager to install clockwork mod while on stock kernel. I'm not sure what steps you have done but you don't have clockwork if u did it thru rom manager
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/42178-rooting-ultimate-guide-v1-0-2-a.html
This is the link that I followed to root. If I'm not supposed to post this on here I apologize. But if you have the time to check this through I would greatly appreciate it.
Tom
You cannot use ROM Manager to flash anything while using the stock kernel. Perform the following steps to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Hold down VOL DOWN + CAMERA + POWER
3. You should be in ClockworkMod Recovery (Green Text)
4. Flash Phoenix/Xtreme kernel.
5. Reboot
Now you can use ROM Manager to flash anything.
When I do that all that comes up is
Reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition.
Nothing about my kernel on my sdcard. Does it not have to be in a zip folder or something?
Oh, you never installed ClockworkMod Recovery, which is a requirement to flash 3rd party mods.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Followed it and still the same thing
I was getting this error when I first got my epic and it was because I was booting into stock recovery (red text). Make sure you are in Clockwork Recovery (green text) as mentioned above by holding Vol down, Camera, and Power when your phone is off. Hope this helps.
That's exactly what I wasn't doing I was just rebooting from Rom Manager Manually lol. My noob mistake. I have it working and installed BakedSnack 1.6 rom any feedback on this rom or is there a better rom/kernel combo that I should use?

It's all about what you prefer. I used one of the new odin updates to install dk28 and flashed Mammon's rom and have been loving it especially after applying the gingerbread theme. I'm so content with it I don't plan on flashing anything until they get cyanogenmod or a ported gingerbread out.

Stock ROM constant reboot on white HTC EVO 4G screen

Hi all,
Here's short history of the phone:
Friend of mine drop his on the concrete about June of last year and whole screen was cracked (not pretty). About month ago I found LCD Screen with Digitizer on ebay bought it and replaced it.
After turning it on everything was working except random reboots. Phone was not registered to any account so there was no internet only WI-FI.
So I started going into system updates and downloading HTC updates it did two of them and I think on the 3rd one it just starts to boot white HTC EVO 4G screen comes on and then it reboots.
Only pulling the battery will stop it.
This is all on stock HTC Sense ROM, rooting was never attempted!
I've searched thru the forums here but everything here relates to failed rooting process.
Can someone please make any suggestions?
Bellow is the pictures of boot loader.
Help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Followed the instruction, run RUU and it starts to check the phone after this I get error[170]: USB connection error.
I've tried over 10 times.
Step 4 says "Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone."
I can't even log into Sense?
The only other thing you can do is find a PC36IMG.zip and put it on your microSD card, then reboot into the bootloader. It should find it and reflash everything, the same as using the RUU.

I've tried using this method found here
I placed PC36IMG.zip in root of the SD card. But when I boot into recovery I can see for about 3 seconds on the right side status bar how it checks PC36IMG.zip file but then it goes back to recovery. It never ask me if I want to update like it says in the above tutorial "Do you want to start update?"
Any other suggestions?

I found this but its not the same place I got mine from. http://www.filecrop.com/htc-evo-4g-roms.html
Thanks for the reply!
Somewhat of a progress. I tried countless times and it always gives me USB connection error: Then I downloaded HTC Sync and and I think I went to Hboot and I heard sound on windows it seemed like phone got recognized and I was able to finish the processes. It was flashed using RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed. Then when I went to again in recovery it was again red triangle over the phone.
After that I just let it try to boot and it finally booted into HTC sense!
Turned on WI-FI and wanted to check if there's any updates and it said no updates?
This is what recoveries I've tried so far:
Amon RA 2.1.1
Amon RA 2.2.1
Amon RA 2.3 (Added 02/09/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.26.651.6 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.29.651.5 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.30.651.3 (Added 01/18/2011)
Stock Recovery 3.70.651.1 (Added 01/18/2011)
One by one I tried each one renaming to PC36IMG.zip and none of them asked me if I want to do the update. It just checks it and goes back to bootloader.
Why do I get red triangle?
What should I do now?
Help is appreciated!

I have a Nexus 4 in front of me with a diagonal crack from top left to bottom right corners of the screen.
The touch screen only responds on the upper half of the phone.
I have been tasked with getting the images, videos, music etc. from this phone, however as I am unable to unlock the phone I am finding it pretty difficult!
Is there any way to get the data from the phone using either software or hardware hacks?
I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum, any information is appreciated, even if I have to open up the phone and start cutting wires!
Thank you,
- Pano
Yes there is quite a single way to do it using ADB on your computer. Do you have that set up?

OK I installed ADB and Fastboot.
I downloaded the custom Nexus 4 recovery from Clockwork Mod.
Booted the phone into Fastboot mode
Found the phone with ADB, tried to run the recover image... the phones LOCK STATE is LOCKED
How do I get past this!?

EDIT:
It seems your bootloader is locked. NRT will unlock it but it will wipe your data. And a locked bootloader won't allow ADB (correct me if i'm wrong)
Try doing a factory reset through Recovery, it should get rid of the lock screen and allow you to transfer stuff through USB. I never tried to so i'm not sure will it work

Hi.
Is the device still under guarantee?
If not, you maybe can open the device and get the storage out of it, if there's no other way. First try it with this program, if you give up and there's no other way, (sorry to say this) you must do that.
Or try this:
Connect your phone to the charger
Reboot it
And start in safe mode (somehow, if you're able to do.)
...or replace the screen!
I'm so sorry for you, that something like that happened.
I hope you to manage to rescue your data somehow.
I also know the bitter feeling of data loss ;(
I hope this helped.
OK just to keep all updated and in case anyone ever uses this post in the future to help them...
I have tried everything, nothing worked as it either involved use of the touch screen at some point, or required me to have previously turned USB DEBUGGING on... I have come up with a new solution :
Using the ADB I will unlock the phone using the command
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
This will WIPE all the data from the phone, however it will allow me to finally install a custom recovery mod.
I am then going to find a way to connect the phone to the computer, clone the internal memory to a virtual hard drive and then use some recovery software to get back all the data that was "erased" when I unlocked the oem
Hopefully :fingers-crossed:....

This will only work, if the Computer has FULL ACCESS to the file system.
The best Data-Recovery Program is IsoBuster by Peter van Hoove.
...and also, it's not just normal deleting but WIPING, so recovery chance is very low.
...Nexus 4 ALWAYS makes god-damn' problems: RedLight of Death, No MicroSD, Data Loss because of Google's Locked Bootloader.
My Advice The Next time you buy a Device with Android - Unlock the bootloader to avoid further problems.

Flashing TWRP custom recovery and then using its file manager to delete the wondershare apk from the phone might help.
Also, files from the internal memory cannot be recovered if deleted. They can, but the process seems to be more complicated than just using an app. That's the way android is.

That is called download mode.
The key combo for recovery is volume up, power button and home button.
TWRP has install instructions on their site. There are other, simpler, methods. Like the Odin method.
