Wizard loosing stylus - total solution ;-)

I couldn't understand what's the point. Can you explain shortly what's the idea?

The Proble;
You have a loose fittign stylus that over time has gotten to the point of falling out on its own.
The goal:
Stop loosing styli.

The reason the stylus falls out is that the plastic retainer cracks.
The pictures show how using a slice of an eraser jammed into the gap will help retention.
OK, that much I get, but where does the little metal spring part come from and what does it do (or is it a bit that's already there)?

It lookes like the metal piece is part of the housing. He may be trying to point out how it goes back in place. Things like that have a tendancy to "spring" out of position as you open up a housing w/out giving you a chance to see where they go back to. That is if you can even find them once they hit the floor. Lots of little pieces that if lost can really ruin your day.
I'm a little worried about the VOID warranty sticker covering one of the internal screws. Also, looks like the guy dinged up his housing trying to pry it open.
It is the best fix I've seen so far for the problem. If you can get that VOID sticker pealed back and replaced w/out somebody being able to notice, you should be able to keep your warranty intact should you ever need it.

Although I dont have this problem (yet) I am going to add this little link to here. It is where you can get the PDF manual (disassembly and reassembly), I think it is way easier to follow then the web tutorial, you can just look back and forth to fix the styli thing.

how to open the battery cover for X1?

Hi all,
I just got the X1 yesterday and im wondering how to open the battery cover. the cover seems so egg-like thin and im so afraid if i force it the wrong way, it would break. Kinda regret to let the salesman assemble the battery and sim card for me.
So anyone knows how to open it nice and easy?

there are 2 groves at the bottom of the cover, put your fingers(nails) and pull. weird system i know, thats what i thought when i first got it

i did read the manual and i have tried it. but its still quite difficult to open with that instruction. how can the cover be lifted just like that? i asked myself.
now that i have realised you need to push with your fingernails, my fingernails r actually quite short. so i finally asked the forum if anyone got special tricks to open the back cover.

I turn the phone upside down and flip it over (so the camera end is towards me).
I put my index fingers on the end away from me (the end with the scrollpad).
Using my thumbnails, I slightly pull the away from the casing at the notches and push straight up.
I try not to put any strain on the plate as there are already weak spots in the casing and I don't want to contribute to them opening up in cracks.

I had this issue too. I thought the manual implied squeezing the sides and then pulling.
I finally found a youtube vid on how to disassemble the X1 and he used a guitar pick to get under the case and pull it up. Eventually got my nail under it...

mine sometimes fall off on it's own account if i have it in a pocket with enough room for it to move around a bit

dude, it's metal, not that easy to be broken, use your nail then, pull one side.

There is a huge thread regarding cracked cases with the X1.
I, myself am on my 5th one, all previous ones had cracked cases.
The cover is very strong but the surrounding case is very weak.
I would use extreme care when removing the lid.
Gently insert finger nail until the lid releases one side at a time.
I feel sure this could contribute to the cracks in some cases.

The battery cover is a pain in the ass, get a flat screw and ply it open. Seriously.

Hello folks,
I had a chance to work on my friends arc who bought a Rogers version and dropped it. He had it totally mess on the case and needed the full housing replacement.
I hope that doesn't happen to anyone. I didn't take any photos but I am trying to explain everything as it was to help anyone with this.
General Note:
- Anywhere you got stuck, watch some X10 Disassembly video
- Be very gentle to your phone in this process
- Besides all the screws the rest of the phone is put together with glue(Sticky Back) and snap(plastic for main board)
- Using this information on your own risk as I don't take any responsibility if anything happens to your phone.
Instruction
1) Remove the back battery cover. Thats the easiest part
2) Need star shaped screw driver[Trox](I bought the set for $5) there are 4 screws like that and two which opens with phillips screwdriver(tiny) This is what I bought
All the above we all have seen them
3) After removing the 6 screws remove the front fascia of the phone with a guitar picks, something skinny but sturdy*
* I recommend not using anything other than rubber or plastic in the whole process.
4) Main board is snapped in with plastic to the body which easily can be opened.
5) Little board on the bottom is glued(sticky back @ top) which you can remove with pulling little hard but make sure you don't break it.
6) Majority of the wire you see connected to mainboard can be discounted (snap in wires)
7) Removing the screen: from outside of the phone (like you are looking directly to screen like you normally do) you need to put something under neat and raise up the screen. This part has glue as well and its hard to lift but I did it and it should be possible.
8) if you are doing a full housing replacement, then there are stuff here and there that you need to remove and re-use it on the new housing(Like 3.5 mm jack, HDMI lid, etc.)

Sure, no problem. I would be more than happy to answer. Lets see just some general stuff...
Note: anywhere you got stuck, watch some X10 Disassembly video

- you remove the back battery cover. Thats the easiest part

Thanks for the clarification. I was also suspecting since this area gets damn hot when playing games and even at charging (sometimes).
So seems like they move the CPU from behind the battery in X10 to near to the camera in Arc .

Can I change only the front faceplate around the screen without removing the mainboard? How easy would that be? I want to change mine to Misty Silver as Rogers only carry the Midnight Blue.
Also, for glued parts, do I have to glue them back on the new housing?

Glue part, they are more sticky than glued. You just simply stick it back where it was.
Where is the silver face you found?
This is retarded from them...
Digitizer and screen(one part) are sticked to the front face. In order to for your to change the faceplate only(front) you may have to go through the whole process because the wires from digitizer are going through a big hole to the main board. You don't want to mess around with $700 or $800.
Inside, everything is small. really small. I thought I totally screwed up the whole thing. Technology has gone forward alot since I was a kid putting radio together.

Yes, there are two board one above battery and one below batter @ bottom of the phone
On top is the main board
on bottom is the board for hard keys.
Nicely put together but they could have done a better job there....

Are there three parts to the housing? I assume there is the front plate, middle housing with the chrome, and the battery cover. The mainboard should be in the middle with the chrome. So I can't just detach the screen front the front plate? What is holding the three pieces of housing together? The six screws?
There are silver housings on eBay from time to time. Though, blue is a lot more common.

Three pieces. Back battery cover which is nothing.
Then there are two main pieces.
Chrome which is more like a holder of the fascia.
If I remember correctly, the front Fascia is the one holding all the board on it including that metal look piece(aluminum probably)

how easy is it to replace the front cover, ive cracked the top of it and chipped a bit out the side (surrounding the screen) i presume it'd be simple enough. And does anyone know where i can get a good quality/genuine front cover replacement?

I bought the screw driver here at local tool shop. Home Depot sells them.

You can find the whole housing between $30 to $40 but the front cover is that actual main piece that holds all the internal components + the screen.
If the crack doesn't bug you much, I would not do it since you have to replace the sticker behind you battery as well, which is not easy to peel off + you have to take the screen off the old front fascia which is glued and kind of hard to take off.
Downside of the whole thing for me was the sticker. I have to find an alternative for this problem.

I need a new camera lens (cover)

My rear camera takes HORRIBLE shots.... but its no fault of the camera, its the *junk* plastic lens cover that is now all scratched up. This causes the camera to focus on the scratches and makes everything else out of focus (basically everything!).
And before you blame me for being rough with it... I bought it used. If I cant find just that piece Im going to try and fashion my own out of a raw piece of plexi if I can...

Best off luck with it, shouldn't be to hard to take off, it is attached to the back plate. Though mine is flawless and still takes bad pictures

The lens cover is... well its not even glued on. Its more like that sticky stuff on magazines holding papers to each other. I had to remove mine because mine was affected the same way yours was, not from scratches but from dust INSIDE the lens. I used an eyeglass flat head screwdriver, it came off effortlessly. I hear guitar picks work great for stuff like this too.
After you take it off, you gotta push hard to get it back on. Push till you feel like it might break if you push any harder, then keep it there for about 20 seconds. If you do less it'll fall off.
I couldn't tell ya where you'd find another lens cover, but I'll look it up when I get home.

Thanks guys but it turns out it wasn't just a scratched lens cover (well it is scratched but thats not it), the inner lens assy that is attached to the CMOS sensor was LOOSE! Yea, f'ing loose, believe that! I found out when I tried to remove said lens cover, to try and clean the cover internally (I figured there would be some space between the inside surface of the cover and the topmost part of the image assy.
Well turns out there is a piece of that soft sticky foam that must obviously be there to keep foreign contaminates from getting in. Well when I removed that lens cover (its stuck to the rear frame/housing with that same foam, the lens part came with it. There I was with that in my one hand, and looking down directly at the image sensor (you can tell since it looks almost like the surface of a cd. I immediately put everything back on and prayed that I didn't get more dust inside the lens unit. Well this didn't happen, I guess I got lucky, and actually the unit takes cleared pictures now, I think I pressed everything back together tighter then it was before (closer to spec I guess).
Here is to keeping my fingers crossed. I never took many pics with my last tablet (Im never without my cellphone which is easier to use) but I would still like it to work as it should...
Be careful with this part guys if you ever decide to disassemble the unit, its pretty fragile.

I know this is a stupid reply but why would you like to take pics with this crap. I mean my SE k610 takes way better pics than the tablet. And its an tabled.... Why would you took photos with it :d

ive noticed my a500 takes great close up pics really detailed and whatnot but from medium to far range its just garbage i dont know if its my camera or what

I dont take pics with it, however I would just like my unit to function as its supposed to. I also would like to to work so when I sell it, which I will eventually to upgrade to a better tablet, I wont take a hit on the price...

Knocked off ground connector from phone board, need advice on how to best reattach it

In the process of fixing my phone I accidentally knocked off this little metal bit that I believe is for grounding since it seem to contact a metal plate attached to the plastic upper bit that doesn't seem to go anywhere else. Its a really tiny thing and I'm trying to decide how to best reattach it. I found someone on ifixit that posted a similar problem back in 2018, but with no solution (I posted there first but I guess cause its old no one is responding). The one I broke off is the one on the left. I'll attach to this a photo of my device with a macro shot I took of the area where it came off.
It looks like it was making contact through 4 tiny holes. I was thinking of maybe trying to flow a little bit of solder into their and then reattaching the metal bit with glue.
On the otherhand, is it pointless? I haven't tried putting the phone back together yet to determine what this effects or do I know if these ground points have redundant ground points else where.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
