[Q]Updating radio&Backup - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

So I have two questions.
1. How can I update the radio? I have 2.12.50.xxxxx and i want to put 2.15.50.xxxxx. So do I have to install WM again, or can I just do it from the Tri-colored bootloader?
2. How can i backup my SMS and apps in android? Because every time I get a new build I have to re-download all my apps.

1. Yeah I believe you can from bootloader
2. Titanium Backup and SMS Backup & Restore, both free on market. From what I've read TB should be able to backup your texts too but I'm too used to SMS B&R to try it.

Thanks for the reply, I finally backed up my data.
And well since I'm going to update my NAND Android, I'm goning install WM, then the radio, and then the new NAND Android.

I'm 95% certain bootloader's gonna be just fine, and I don't see the point of reinstalling WM first. If it doesn't work, the flasher will simply tell you so, there's no risk of bricking just by trying.

wrong flash?

Hello! i am in urgent need of some help.
i tried to flash to Miri HD2 WM6.5 21891 V4.0. everything seemed to work fine. i flashed from 1.44 to 1.66 earlier this week. then i installed HSPL.
anyway i flashed to that miri rom and the phone booted.. nothing wrong but then i restored my backup (made with SBP backup) and now its stuck at the HTC boot screen (the white one)
when i check my HSPL versie it says
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
and all the way down to the white box "serial"
please tell me my phone is not lost and i can save him/her!
Thanks for any help.. im verry worry'd about my child
3rd post now of SBP screwing things up - you'll have to flash a stock ROM and then start again. If you flash a custom ROM you're better off doing it all from scratch, and install everything again one at a time

Yeah it sucks big time i used to use the program PIMBackup or something like that but that is not working anymore on wm6.5
good thing i installed that hspl and i can flash from that 4 colored screen!! didnt knew that!! must say i am verry relieved
message to everyone, watch out with SPB Backup..
You can just flash a custom rom via microsd card method and then hard reset to clear any leftover data. No need to install a stock rom first.
Spb Backup is only intended to restore to the exact same rom as you backed it up from. If you goto a different rom and then use the same backup from a previous rom it can really screw up your phone as you found out. Stick with pimbackup for your contacts and messages and reinstall programs and settings seperately its what I always do and it doesnt take long.
The version of pimbackup that is in my flashing guide works perfectly on every WM6.5 rom I have used with my HD2. If yours doesnt work then try that one.
SPB backup is not intended to work that way, no backup software is. If you change ROMs then a complete backup from a different ROM is always going to cause issues no matter what backup application you use.
The best way is to just have all your cabs sitting in a folder, backup your favorites, your wallpaper, your ringers, etc. So you just need to do some quick installs and copies to be back where you were. Used to, after a ROM change, it would take me an hour and a half to get my phone how I liked it but now I can do it in 15 minutes.
I use PIMbackup for my contacts and messages and it works great. It works fine for me on all versions of 6.5, never had an issue with it. Maybe try to download a different copy somewhere.
Edit: mskip beat me to most of this, I was typing while his post showed up.

Wierd that we ended up saying exactly the same things though haha

need advice....

I just wanted to know if installing any of these roms on my htc hd2 would override the windows mobile os completely?
or will i be able to choose between the two?
or will i be able to boot up both at the same time?
thx in advance.
It will overwrite everything. Your settings, contacts. You must backup it all and after flash restore it!
Remember to read FAQ in this section before doing anything or you might end up with brick...

Questions Re: Android and Win Mo?

Gday all im a bit lost in the android forums so im just going to do a noob thing and ask for some assistance, thanks.
I just installed the "[30 DEC][DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM" rom over top of my last rom from WINMO, which was the Energy jan 6 rom.
I also installed the latest Radio "Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14" and HSPL3 along with "MAGLDR112" everything went sweet upon install, so i have no real questions regarding that but im wondering how i can boot back into WINMO if its possible?
If i reboot the phone it just auto loads into Android.
Also i would like to know what the best Android rom is for reliability and secondly how would i update the roms as new version are released?
I think thats about it for now, the rom in currently using feels smooth and great the apps work fine but it feels a little locked down compared to the WINMO but it hasnt crashed on me in the past day which WINMO would have by now, lol.
To flash back winmo, simply go into bootloader/tri color screen. This is done by holding vol down, then powering up.
I'm not going to answer which is the "best" android rom, as that has been asked many times, where there are many answers for, so, search it up.
Updating differs. If it uses daf.exe/install.exe, it's that same as how you flashed android for the first time, however sometimes you can't retain your settings. Clockwork mod flashing however, is unbeknown to me, haven't tried it yet, sorry.
Thanks for that, so what would i need to do to backup my settings and info on the Android just incase i reinstall it just say?
Also if i back to the bootloader would that mean ill have to reinstall a winmo rom?
Then if so would it only boot into WINMO and not android?
Secondly how would i be able to reboot into android again?
I guess im asking is there a way to dual boot and whats the best way about doing it?

r u being jackass?u have to flash stock wm rom first.ok then u can flash any custom rom.
ok use titenium backup to backup ur android settings abd appp..
ok and after winmo if u want dual boot u have to install sd android build to ur sd card
Why would i want to be a jackass?
Yeah i come on here to troll these forums to post noob questions for ****s and giggles, are you such a person who angers over someone who clearly doesnt know what he is doing and yet you think im being a jackass (god i hate that word, lol never used down here though).
I hope i clearly posted im the OP on how and what i installed but now im lost, i have android working fine but i dont know how to back any data up just incase i do an update or even flash back to stock rom and maybe come back to android later and hope to reuse the backed up data from the android rom.
It took me about a year to get used to WINMO and learning how to install a custom rom on it but now i thought i give android a go and i managed to follow the steps without any issues (yes there were a few more steps i needed to do than i did need to do for a custom rom for WINMO) but now that i have it running i just want to know what to do to get WINMO back on and preferably getting WINMO and android working side by side.
I know how to flash custom roms in WINMO but im just wondering if there was a way for me to be able to boot back into winmo while i have android installed, all i want is to be pointed into the right direction or shown a link to a walkthrough or just given a point form reply as to the process on what and what not ill be able to keep and the best way in doing so.
So from your reply i gather ill need to install android to my SDcard and not the phone memory in order to run WINMO and Android together am i correct?
If so then because i use the ENERGY ROMS i can boot to android from within the ENERGY ROM, am i correct? i think NRG did something with android in his roms.
I am really sorry if i have upset anyone (above) but i am really lost with this, yes i pretty much understood custom roms in WINMO but with this i just did it spontaneously VERY VERY late last night and i wasnt thinking straight i just gave it a shot, so i put myself in the deep end and now im very confused with getting it back to normal as such thats all.
Worst case would i just be able to reformat the SD and then boot to 4 colour screen and just do my custom WINMO install as per usual or would i have to install the stock rom back then install the custom rom?
First of all, ignore the "jackass" above. That was just plain rude and he made himself look like a total idiot.
Secondly, if you want to backup your current Android setup, get Titanium Backup from the market. There's a batch job (click menu, batch jobs) that backs up all your apps & data and system settings. It backs it up to your SD card though, so be aware of that if you're thinking of formatting it for any reason.
Next, get the WM6.5 ROM that you want to flash (doesn't have to be a stock one). Enter the bootloader (tri-colour screen) and flash your WM ROM as normal.
Finally, when you flash a ROM onto your phone, that becomes the only OS on there. You can't switch between Android NAND and WM without flashing. You can, however, run Android from your SD card. There's a forum dedicated to that here...
HD2 Android SD Development
There's lots of info in there on how to do it, but it's basically unzip a file, copy the contents to your SD card, run 2 apps. You'll probably want to go down the route of a bootloader (not really) that runs in Windows. It lets you select Windows or Android when you reboot. They too can be found in that same forum.
That's the only way you can switch between Windows and Android on a regular basis, without flashing a new ROM.
Hope this helps
Thank you very much it has cleared allot up for me, now i know that because i flashed android on the phone its the only OS i can use, i didnt know that TBH.
So yes thanks again and ill do it the SD way and try my luck with that.
One more small thing, how do i go with updating the current android rom im using (if it were to be updated), does it work in a similar process as WINMO custom roms and their updates?
Again i much appreciate the reply, it has helped already.

Generally, you flash an updated ROM the same way you flash the original ROM. There are backup options like Titanium Backup or ClockWork Mod (if the ROM supports it), so you can get everything back up and running again.

[Q] -Specific- question about rooting.

Please, dear XDA'ers, take a little bit of time apart for a newbie at rooting. :l
I'm an Annoying Noob to you, as you probably already guessed. But I made this account, because I want to root my phone to Android gingerbread, with a -STABLE- sense (2.1+)3.0 UI.
So I had my eyes on THIS one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694
BUT! I'm REALLY a noob at rooting. I've tried HaRET rooting, with a Nexus android Rrom, well... That didn't go too well, because via my SD things would become veeeery slow after a while. So I NAND rooted my phone to Android Gingerbread 2.3.3. I'm quiete happy with it, but it's not really the HTC feeling I get when I look at the UI.
So I saw sense 3.0 and fell in love.
Well enough about that. I have an HTC HD 2, it's NAND rooted and it's European... ALL I want is a STABLE sense 3.0 rom... That works for my phone.
Now I was wondering, if I would instal it... Would it work properly for me? None of us are sure. So that's why I want to back-up my ROM. With Clockwork rom recovery tool... you know, from the market. Well I get a very annoying error every time I try to back-up my data. I did flash the app to it's most current version, but when I want to make a back-up, my phone just reboots... and does... basically, nothing.
I don't want to mess up my phone entirely. So what should I do first, dear XDA'ers? Please, I just don't want my data to get lost. I tried multiple tutorials but none seem to have the answer to my problem!
sense 2.1 and sense 3 roms aren't stable yet. they have graphic glitches and camcorder problems. but if you don't consider these problems you can live with it. i may recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075703 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124757. in order to prepare your phone for different nand roms you ca use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783.

I will try this, and if I can't figure it out I will come back to this thread and whine more.
In any case, I think it's appropriate to thank you, it's the least I can do.
btw i think your phone has hspl 2.08 and mgldr?!
rom manager dont work with magldr.
To make a backup boot into cwm manually:
hold power down while rebooting -> magldr screen should appear
Then navigate to ad recovery-> backup and restore..rest should be clear.
..i wonder, how you installed nand roms, without to know how to boot to recovery? oO

I just raped my phone I think. I had HSPL installed, and MAGLDR and I think some other stuff too, so I used the first rom the first poster linked, and I downloaden the two files it told me to download in the instructions... I installed the custom RUU from that first rom, and then my phone kinda died. It only said "HTC" in green, and it diidn't do anything. So I flashed it back to WinMob 6.5. Now I have WinMob 6.5 (rom 1.66 or something I think) and I'm not sure what to do next. I don't want to brick my phone and I don't want WinMob 6.5 either.
*Sigh* I wonder if I'll ever understand rooting.
So just to clarify, I have HSPL (I'm sure it's the correct one too.) And I have MAGLDR installed on my phone. And I don't get the instructions from said thread.
<_> My brain is molten.
if you have come until mgldr don't give up. download the nand tool kit i mentioned a few posts before.choose and download a simple rom for beginning (you may take tyweens typhoon) put it in your sd. after that you will take a few steps. don't be afraid, many people (including me) faced same problems.

Thing is, I don't want a simple rom... I'm stubborn like that, hehehe...
I want a sense 3.0 rom, but I'm not sure how to follow the instructions in the thread. It uses terms I've never heard from before...
Well, if there's a stable android 2.3.3/2.3.4 rom with sense 2.1, I'd consider that! Also, I hate the MAGLDR boot screen... you know, "Go go go!" I saw a rom with a very smooth and pretty boot screen... I'd try that too!
i just say if you can succeed to flash one, then you will learn the steps. after that you can try a different rom everyday,as i do

Yes, I have. I made a 2 gig EXT-4 partition. I just don't know what to do with it. I have Radio Leo installed, MAGLDR, HSPL... CWM and all that.
I tried flashing the two roms you suggested in your first post but they are stuck on the boot screen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
have you made necessary cwm partitions using usb flasher and nand toolkit?
and how did you make a 2 gb ext4 partition

Backuping before changing system to 2.3.3

Hi there,
Im new with Wildfire, so I want to change my system to 2.3.3. But before that I would like to make a backup to not loose everything on my phone in the system 2.2.1. Can U please give me a link how can I do that?
Thx.
When your phone is rooted, install clockworkmod recovery. You can there make a nandroid backup of your current ROM (which you can later restore in case something goes wrong).
Apps can be backupped by a program called titanium backup, but again requires root (but works very well!)
Link for s-off and root in case you have not done this yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
Thx for the link but as I see there All procedures were done under WINDOWS 7, 32-bit. And me I have win 7 64bit, should not be a problem?
No, the procedure remains the same.
I have indeed done everything on windows7 64bit and am succesfully running CM7
Is the wifi working on this 2.3.3?
you are probably talking about installing a custom ROM right? Then if wifi works depends on which custom ROM you are installing, and there is probably a thread about each custom rom in the dev section, so you can check there
Yes but Im a little bit confuse here. U gave me a link and there I read that CM7 is stable. But what should I do before install it?
I know that first I need to back up my phone and my old 2.2.1 android.
Please tell me what should I do first? step by step. I will apreciate so much. And in this CM7 is everything working fine? I mean wifi - blutooth etc?
Thx
The general steps:
S-off or root your phone (most easy is S-off with the alpharevx tool right now, root is easy then)
Flash clockworkmod recovery
Acess clockworkmod recovery by holding volume down when the phone is off and pressing the power button once
Make nandroid backup with clockworkmod recovery
Wipe cache, dalvik cache, reset to factory settings (in clockworkmod recovery)
Put the .zip file for the custom ROM on your sd card (root of the sd card)
Flash the ROM using clockworkmod recovery
Install google apps (market, youtube, ...) the same way you flashed your ROM. You can do this step afterwards though if you like
Reboot into your new ROM
The details should be in the thread I linked to. I did it myself using another thread (something called "after alpharevx...") but I have looked for it and I cannot find it back anymore sorry... But look at the one I linked to above, I'm sure it holds all the info needed
The first time took a few hours for me aswel and some reflashing because i got bootloops (no worries, you can fix that, the phone will not be bricked ! ), but afterwards it's all very easy
And I'm not sure if everything works perfect. There is a common problem with the GPS which can be solved by reflashing the radio. Wifi works, bluetooth I have no idea as I have never used it yet... I read there are problems but I don't know if there are problems in the current stable version... But trust me, the hours you put in it the first time, and the few flaws there still are are totally worth the result I cannot believe I have been on stock ROM more than a year before finally flashing custom ROMs...
So let me show U what my phone shown when I reboot it by using the volume DOWN and the power:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON

So do I need the Revolutionary to S-OFF it? because I dont need to downgrade my version anymore right?
Right. Go to AlphaRev.nl/x/
Download there the tool to making phone s-off and root it after that.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
I want also to know when do I need to format my SD Card to FAT32? I just read somewhere that I need to format it in order to make a nandroid or something like that??
And please tell me also what is the difference between sense ROM and CM7 ?? I want to be sure to do the right thing because I dont want to destroy my treasure xD.
So after S-Offing my phone I need to root it and then format my SD Card?? Please tell me the step I need to do.
Thx.
No one helps?
Just read the guide!! EVERYTHING is stated there. Your SDCard should be FAT32 already before you start it.
To get an idea of CM7, read a review somewhere of the Nexus S, and most importantly ,check the software review of it. That is, in a nutshell, what CM7 is. Also, the official site should tell you a bit about it:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
Sense ROM is what you see at the moment on your Wildfire. All apps, like the camera, dialer, contacts, messages etc. are different in AOSP ROMs like CM7 and Sense ROMs like the stock one.
Dude but I dont need a goldcard but S-OFFing my phone. I have the HBOOT 1.01.0001 already so as I read the goldcard is for the ones who want to downgrade their HBOOT.
So tell me how do I format my sdcard and make a partition for it? I need to format before S-OFFing? So where will be my backup (nandroid?) and where do I put my new and old ROM?
Its quite a little bit confuse for me so can U put me on the right path and help me?

Just go through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
No, you need not do anything with your SDcard, if getting S-OFF is all you need.
I'll post the outline for you:
- Download Revolutionary
- Run it, it will S-OFF your phone
- After S-OFF'ing it, it will ask you whether you want to install a Custom Recovery. Select YES.
- This will install Clockworkmod 4.0.1.4
That's it. Once Clockworkmod is installed, you can then take a nandroid backup and then flash custom ROMs. You can read this post for all details for taking Nandroid backups and flashing custom stuff:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8926457&postcount=4
Hope this clears up your doubts
Ok, but if I need to put my new ROM in order to have CM7 in my phone do I need to format my sdcard before do nandroid?
How about the partition of my sdcard? What can U suggest for me? Thx
No. Not necessary. Flashing a ROM is independent of the contents of the SDCard. You can take a Nandroid also without formatting or doing anything to your SDCard, as long as you have sufficient space. (1 Nandroid backup is ~300-350MB)
SDCard partitioning can be done after you S-OFF and root your phone. Then, install an app called ROM Manager, you will have an option within it to partition your SDCard. But, here, make sure you backup your SDCard before partitioning because partitioning will automatically format it.
Ok is ROM manager is an independent program? where can I get it? from android market? or I will get it automaticly after s-offing my device?

- Yes, it is an independent program.
- No, you will not automatically get it after S-OFF
- Yes, it's available on the market (Both free and premium)
- If you decide to install CM7 ROM after S-OFF and installing a Custom recovery, it includes it by default.
Just to get one thing out of the way - We are referring to create an EXT partition on the SDCard after S-OFF'ing/rooting to enable Apps2SD. Not a FAT32 or any other partition.
