Hey everyone,
I've decided to start a post on this cuz i haven't been about to find much on this recently released phone from telus (a canadian carrier). I currently have an HTC TyTN. However, the touchscreen is completely dead. Since this phone isn't sold by any canadian carriers, it's virtually impossible to get it repaired let alone replaced.
I've recently come across the Telus HTC P4000 which was officially launced by telus in april. I noticed the specs are very similar to that of the TyTN except for the following:
-A CDMA phone without a sim card slot.
-256 mb rom vs 128 mb rom
-64 mb sdram vs 64 mb ram? (**i dunno if the hermes ram is SD)
-a QUALCOMM MSM7500, 384 MHz CPU vs a Samsung 400 MHz CPU.
I'm thinking of selling my X01HT and signing up with telus and grabbing that phone. I could really use some feedback on this idea from my fellow Hermes owners. And could use some help measuring the pros and cons.
So far the major CON of going to this phone would be that it's slightly slower and looks to have ZERO upgradability in terms of OS, RADIO, or any type of rom flashing. Meaning no sweet WM6 upgrades from custel or jasjamming or any of the other cool chefs...
Here are some links:
http://www.telusmobility.com/content/clientcare/pcs_east/guides/htc_p4000/htc_p4000.pdf
-user manual (specs can be found here as well)
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/04/17/the-htc-p4000-for-telus-in-the-flesh/
-engadgetmobile article on this phone
Any feedback or thoughts would be great. Thanks guys...
I din't know how much money you want to spend, but expansys do a good range of phones - including the dopod 838 pro (http://www.expansys.ca/)
I think most of these are phone only, without contract etc but I'm sure you can shop around for something with a contract.
Personally for my style of useage I'd spend out on one of the Hermes varieties.
You could also try ebay - maybe pick up a bargain 8525 or an old hermes to repair yours with.
Good luck
I just bought 2 HTC P4000 for some of our work phones. One has been activated so far, and it is working great. It is allot slimmer than the PPC-6700, which I had last year. I am a newbie when it comes to upgrading these things or doing hacks etc, but I am quite happy with the phone so far. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask me and I will try to answer them for you.
thanks guys,
I passed by a telus store today to check it out. The lady was nice enough to take a brand new phone out of its box and run it for me. I got to play around with it for a while and here are my impressions which are mostly positive:
-the slid out keyboard seems to have some kind of power assist feature (not exactly but you know what i mean, think hiptop) which makes it pretty cool and easier to slid out as oppose to having to manually push up the screen till you hear it lock into place (X01HT)
-The HTC P4000 is virtually the same size except just as twelveca stated, it is slightly thinner.
-same white default htc bootscreen + a telus logo screen and wm5 setup. I doubt the possibility of any kind of upgrade unless there are some crazy chefs out there that get their hands on this phone.
-has FN and CAPS lights just like a computer keyboard!
-black keyboard, dark gray screen housing, and a bumpy pattern on the back for added grip.
-I checked out the device info screen and to my surprise, it said it has a !400! MHz CPU as oppose to the 384 MHz stated in the specs. 64 MB RAM, 256 MB Onboard Flash memory confirmed.
-From the few minutes playing with it, it seems to perform at the same level (if not better) as the HERMES.
-Doesn't show any signs of screen alignment problems.
-EVDO High speed wireless capable.
There ya have it, looks like i'm leaning towards buying it. Just have to get over the idea that i won't be able to upgrade roms (for now at least) or use sim cards...But other than that, it seems like a great phone.
Oh i just found a link to a "Complete" review of the P4000 on HF
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1153541
It includes points i forgot to mention as well as ones i didn't even know of...
Here are some of them (note these are compared to the ut starcom 6700):
"
-dual core processor??
- REV A compatible (with software upgrade which Telus has officially announce they will do)
-more buttons on face and sides
-better one-handedoperation
-bigger battery
-better battery life
-better brighter screen
-better 2mp camera with improved software and settings
-AKU 3.3 which brings with it A2DP among other things
"
P4000
Just recently picked one of these up and have had a couple of days to play with it. I upgraded from an Imate PPC (original 2003 edition) and could not be happier.
This is a rock solid PPC, only wish my GPS hardware was compatable, sigh.
I was a little unsure of Telus but after my fiascos with Rogers, i dont expect them to give me half the grief.
cool, i'll be picking one up probably some time next week...just gotta figure out how i'm gunna cancel my plan with fido and transfer the number over...
...maybe we can start a new forum for this phone when more people have it...
Who that knows as to unlock Telus or P4000 ?
HTC TYTN
ji1386, how much do you want for your broken TYTN?
TYTN
ji1386, if you want to sell your broken TYTN, I could use it for parts if unable to fix it. Send me a PM with your offer. Thanks
I have this phone basically since it came out from Telus, and I must say I am quite enjoyikng it. Best Pocket PC phone out, IMO.
This phone is upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.....however, there is no confirmed release date on when this will be. Also, checking the HTC site will most likely get you nowhere as Telus will need to configure this upgrade to have Telus aspects on there, for instance, The Telsus bootscreen, the today themes, etc.

Hello ppl
i'm thinking of getting a x10 in replacement for my g3..is it a good choice
x10i is not new.. + it doesn't boot it has this red led of death (that's what its called i think)
anyway so will i b able to get it to work again..also the owner says that the motherboard has crashed!! <- is that possible??
plz your opinions and advice would really help, especially from ppl who have played around with their x10
thanks
i see your in india so x10 is prices at 26,000.INDRS so there are much better options, the reason is x10 is pretty outdated and SE doesnt decide to drop its price so its better to get a newer phone
Dual core's
Atrix(poor battery management!but good performance) - around RS.26,000
HTC EVO 3D(not out yet but pretty good specs) - around RS.25,000
Galaxy sII(best phone so far) - around 30,000
1 Ghz core
nexus s - 26,000
milestone II
Droid incredible

X10i is available for much lesser price, around 20000 INR, I'll suggest a Galaxy s2, or if you want to purchase within INR 20000, go for x10i or galaxy ace. Edit: Even galaxy S is available in India for 18000 INR.
I'm not buying a new x10...
It's a second hand phone with the problems i've mentioned in my first post...

put in some extra money and get the SII!
I think the red led means that the battery is just way to flat. Leave it charging for a long time and I hear it comes right and will turn on. X10 is a good phone, if its cheap go for it, I love mine and theres a fair bit of support for it here.
only buy faulty hardware if u are getting it dirt cheap, meaning < 10k INR for X10 (faulty)
cause a new battery itself will cost u 1500 to 2500 INR... and that doesnt include any hardware repairs (if its out of warranty)... otherwise that another 500 INR (labor/repair center charges) + cost of actual parts used...
Buy the s2 or the g3 not the x10 the x10 is the last bullsh*t

Hi all. I'm asking for the expert opinion of all the xda ogs. I bought an HD2 about 5 months ago off ebay for almost full price. And now it won't start (I tried everything). Sent it to htc repair center in Texas.
Now my question is: If it costs more than 150 to repair the phone, I'll probably just buy a new one instead of repairing it to have better peace of mind. Should I get another HD2, this time brand new from amazon for 299, or should I get an HTC sensation for abouit 540?
I really don't see myself using the dual core cpu that much, but the higher megapixel camera would be much more badass, and I do take alot of pictures.
Any productive opinions are welcome.
You say your HD2 will not start, so did it just start this or were you flashing something and it did this after the flash? If so what were you flashing? I ask this cause it sounds like you have bricked your HD2 and that is fixable for a third of the 150 dollars you suggested.
Now as for your Sensation question I don't really have any advice for you as I am currently wrestling with what device to upgrade too myself. And the Sensation is like one of the top devices I am looking at.

I have the same question...my HD2 is also gone for repair and I was thinking of selling it..once I get it back...but the problem is HD2 still allows you to do so much...there is no other phone like it quite yet...there is also possibility of DFT still releasing new version of MAGLDR for wp7 mango which you never know, it maybe good enough for daily driver...
I'm in same dilema...still not decided though
However, instead of sensation I was thinking of buying TMO G2X (LG optimus 2x)...You can get a new one for ~ $350-400 on eBay compared to sensation which is almost $500-600 now...
Compared to sensation it has better camera and no death grip issues, while you lose out on High res screen and Sense UI (which is quite good in its 3rd installment but i think I can manage with cm7, as I was using that on my hd2)
blah, seems like the Sensation has way too many issues right now. I wouldn't be able to stand having dust underneath my screen. Or death grip.
At 299 right now, the HD2 seems like the best value. 4.3 inch screen, and I could flash a new rom every week if I wanted.
What I really want is the samsung S2 of course, but it's still almost 700 on amazon.
I just wish they had another phone for about 300 with a bigger screen (I prefer 5 inch lol) and a better camera.
Best advice of all is to wait if I can. Prices will drop quickly, and maybe the next batch of sensations will be better built.
I'm due an upgrade next month (or if O2 won't match/beat Vodafone's tarriffs it'll be in 4 months when I jump ship) and so far the Sensation is the only thing that appeals to me.
Tried one out in CPWH yesterday and was impressed, no lag, no stutters.
That's a UK based version though, and from what people say about the phones over in the US, your carriers add a load of bloat that can affect performance.
My HD2 will go to my fiancee to replace my old HD.
I will miss the ability to make calls without having to go to the home screen, but I'll get used to it.

HTC Sensations and LG 2X have already sold in Jakarta.
Next week, 23 July, Samsung will launch Galaxy S2 at Pacific Place, Jakarta, with the special price starting from Rp4.1 Mio (USD 500 - 600)
I think it is reasonable price, considering the specs
I remember that I bought HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) at Rp10.5 mio (USD1.100) when it was launched
I heard that Sensation has a death grip issue. So, You might consider waiting till the price of Galaxy S2 drop
Cheers
If you still want to stay with HTC and don't mind a single-core phone, there's always the Desire HD. Same sized screen, but more RAM (same as Sensation but less than SGS2) and newer generation of Snapdragon. It also has a 8MP sensor but I don't know how that compares to the one on the Sensation. It's also about $100 cheaper too. I see one right now that is actually the Inspire 4G but it is unlocked and that is like only $400. I would buy that buy I think my HD2 will last me maybe until the end of this year and then I might move on to Virgin Mobile or something and keep the HD2 as a test phone and for traveling.

Man, you can pick up hd2s for less than 200 on Craigslist... why would you spend 150 on a repair?
even sensations go for 350 max... flippin' eck...

Sensation is far superior to g2x, trust me on this, I've owned both...HD2 is still the most enjoyable experience to be had..
I'm looking into a new phone but I'm just not sure if I should get the Find 5 or One. The camera is not a deciding factor for me, battery would mean more. If I read right the Find 5 has a bigger battery, can I assume that means the Oppa also have better battery life?
My second sticking point is, are there any rumors for when 4.2.2 will be released for it?
Third is how is the support for T-Mobile HSPA+ and LTE?
I should go for the HTC One, BTW it will be better supported!
well i guess in the end its all about the price. the find 5 is way more reasonable, at least in europe
the battery might be bigger on the oppo but i think there are some issues with the battery management. thats just what i read in other threads and on the oppo forums - please correct me if im wrong...
i dont have my find 5 yet, but ordered one yesterday. i was unsure between those two as well, but eventually ordered the black find 5 since it will still take some time until the black htc One is on sale.
so if the oppo doesnt work for me i will sell it and get the me the htc one...

on their homepage oppostyle com the 32gb version for 569$ - they ship for free!! (express it says )
Did you have to pay customs etc? (it's shipped from Asia) Cause as far as I know that would add in excess of 20% (of value) to the phone price... And then it simply would not be worth the hassle with customs etc

yes your right maybe its not worth it when extra fees are added...but sometimes you have to pay them and sometimes it just gets through without any extra costs.
i ordered mine two days ago so i hope i don't have to pay custom duties... but even with the 20% added its still about 50€ cheaper than the htc
- not that much but i was just curious and needed a phone...

Hi Knitler,
In my opinion, the main drawback of the find 5 is its fragility.
The back side of the phone, despite it is very stylish and uncommon (but certainly not as much as the Htc one <3 ), has a very soft plastic.
I owned it since a few weeks and one thing I can say is i'm always trying to be careful on where I place it and how it stands on a desk.
Dust easily scratches the rear side of my poor Oppo and loves lodging into them, especially on the white model
And what is most frustrating than handling the Oppo like it would be a jewel !? Damn, it's just a phone !!
(so if you hesitate, chose the black one )
Otherwise, this smartphone is just a killer plaything
Regarding the battery side, I'm not shure a few milliamps would make the difference on a whole day. In both cases, you would have to charge it every day.
Another interesting point mentionned by brakke97, I believe the One will have a better support.
But, chose the HTC and you will have Mr Everyone's phone

It's not fragile at all, it's very well built. Soft plastic does NOT make a phone fragile, it makes it impact resistant!
I hate how people constantly ignorantly bash plastic as a build material. Properly engineered plastics (as found in Samsungs and the Oppo) are more impact resistant and durable than any other material available for a phone. I speak this from experience - I would be blind in one eye if not for polycarbonate plastic's impact resistance.
I'd say find 5 if your on a budget, and HTC's aren't the best choice if battery life is a concern...
I would choose Oppo find 5. There are many updates from Oppo and the phone is fantastic.
I am sure HTC one will have great support, but what about the locked bootloader? You will lose warranty as soon as you unlock it. So think twice before you choose a phone. Oppo is budget phone while HTC is costlier one. I think we should encourage Oppo so that they will release much more devices in the future.

To be honest I don't see how the price makes any difference here:
HTC One price 32gb (sim unlocked, bootloader locked )- 575$
64gb (sim and bootloader unlocked) - 650$
Oppo Find 5 16gb -500$ (but you can't really compare to any of the above due to storage)
32gb- 569$
So from what I can see the price difference is 6$ when comparing the 32gb units.
Now depending on where you live you might be able to get the Oppo Find 5 in your country or will need to get it shipped from Hong Kong as in the case of most of the world (including Europe) so you risk getting charged VAT (20% of value) and custom charges. In that case Oppo becomes significantly more expensive.
If you do live in the USA however then the decision between the two devices comes to personal preference. Both are great devices but do bare in mind that HTC One has the following advantages:
+Faster processor
+Higher Pixel density
+Aluminum unibody
+Possibly better developer support as most people will own the device (but you would have to buy the developer's edition to take full advantage of that)
As of now there are also other great devices on the market from China that might be worth considering as well such as Huawei Ascend D2. Alternatively you also have Xperia Z (which I currently own) and Samsung Galaxy s4.
To be honest I really wanted to buy the Oppo Find 5 here in Europe but due to lack of availability and the high import cost I have decided to choose something different. Buying a phone from Asia also will come with problems when servicing and looking for spare parts or accessories.
So summing up I don' t see the reason why anyone would opt for Oppo other than wanting to be unique. Don't get me wrong it is a great device indeed but it is just not competitive enough in the market right now. I wish that Oppo have released the device a lot sooner as I have been reading about since October 2012.

Got a chance to look at the Xperia ZL and HTC One (Xperia Z isn't available in the US Sony Store unfortunately)
Xperia ZL - don't know which version of the display I was looking at, but viewing angles are definitely inferior to the Oppo (washed out when you don't look straight into the display). It is smaller (basically size of Oppo minus the bottom white non-screen portion)
HTC one - display similar to Oppo, lighter, feels just as good build-quality wise
I just dislike HTC enough (from previous device Amaze 4G, and the craptastic Sense) to not buy phones from them anymore
battery life for Find5 - people say the CM10.1 experimental has way better battery life...
If I had to choose between the Find 5 and HTC One (with a fully working CM10.1 build on both), it's hard to decide... but now, Sense is enough to say no for me
I personally wanted a 5" screen as being 6'3 I have big hands. It is a fact that the viewing angles are not great. The screen does offer beautiful color reproduction though and Sony offers great developer support which the owners can benefit from. There is a few bugs that are still present that I hope that will be resolved with the update.
Coming back to Oppo 5, as I said it is a great device but due to lack of access to it/ price I went for Xperia Z. So far I am super happy with the phone but I like to try out new devices and would love to get my hands on HTC ONE 64GB Developer Edition. It's a shame it's only available in the US. ( the price is kinda steep though :-/ and I personally don't care about Boom Sound or Zoe) I have seen pictures of the aluminum unibody scratching easily as well ( but that could be the paid of Sammy fans...LOL) but I carry my phone in a hard case anyways.
Long story short if I were to buy a phone in the US I would for sure go for HTC ONE DE. Because I live in Europe I think that the Xperia Z is one of the best options here. You can also find it for much cheaper than HTC ONE as it has been out for a while already ( and you get water resistance, a camera which allows you to zoom in (ekhm... HTC one 4mp) and an sd slot (rare these days)

well 6$ difference is not correct. i did some reading and apparently oppo declares their packages as 150$ value. so you will have to pay about 30$ vat depending on where you live in europe.
so i paid 449€ paying with paypal, plus 23€ duty, means a total of 472€.
compared to the 599€ of the same sized Htc One.
just saying....
and at the moment the availability of the oppo is way better - in Austria at least.
but of course importing phone from asia from a "small" company can cause some problems and might be a bit risky
Without a doubt HTC one

Hello,
today I want to introduce the new smartphone from ZTE.
It's the ZTE Blade S6.
The main specs are a 5inch 720p Display, 2gb Ram and 16gb Rom and the storage is expandable. It is a DualSim phone (Nano simcard) with DualStandby and supports 4G LTE, too.
It comes with the brand new Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) octacore processor clocked at 1,5GHz and the 64bit technology.
As you can see on the pictures below it is very thin with only 7,7mm and has small bezels around the screen. The back of the phone looks similar to the iPhone 6 with a 13mpx shooter from Sony (IMX214), a led flash, the ZTE branding and the loudspeaker. On the right side there is the volume rocker and the power button. On the other side are the sim trays and the place where you can put the micro SD-card inside. The USB-charging port is on the bottom and the 3,5mm headphone jack on top of the phone.
The overall look is very clean with round edges and handy sizes.
On the front of the phone you can see the 5inch HD Display and a blue homebutton you maybe already know from other ZTE devices like the Nubia Z5S, Z7 or ZTE V5. The front camera has 5mpx and should be perfect for some selfies.
The phone also supports some Smart Sense, which lets you launch apps like the music player or flashlight with gestures like flicking your wrist.
Very special is that the ZTE Blade S6 comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop and ZTE's own MiFavor 3.0 UI. The Google PlayStore is pre installed and it supports multilanguage. You can order the phone in two colors (silver, matte pink).
mod edit: Advertising for 3rd party vendors is against XDA rules

I will get one phone in the next 1-2 weeks and then I will write a full review of this phone, so stay tuned.
Update: Gearbest has sent me a new coupon code that I would like to share with you.
Code: ZTES6JY
-> Blade S6 costs 214,99$ with shipping from Germany. So it is very interesting for the customers from Europe because they don't have to pay taxes.
Iphone Look Alike
Looks Like iPhone.Well, after sales support is my only concern .
I really like the design, too and the specs look very nice. The Snapdragon 615 should have enough power and an HD screen is enough for 5inch. I hope that the battery will last a whole day or even a bit more.
I don't have any experience with after sale support, so I can't tell you something about it but ZTE is a nig brand and so I think there won't be any production issues.
looking at the frequency this phone should work on the rogers network in canada right? Is it unlocked from the factory?
Yes, it comes definately unlocked but please check the network used by rogers by your own. I'm not an expert and don't want to say something wrong.
I have updated Post 1#.
From today on the phone will be sent out and I hope that I will receive my phone next week.
I'm also waiting for Blade S6...I payed it 263usd but today you can get it for 249 on AliExpress... if there is any root guide, please share...
As posted above you can get it with an coupon code from gearbest for 234$, which I think is a good price for a Snapdragon phone from a big brand.
They dont sell to north america in this sale..
I thought they would sell worldwide.

Now is Chinese New Year and probably they will ship after New Year, I am still waiting for shipment details also
@naruto42 I get my phone from gearbest. The shop link is in post 1. My Blade S6 is at the moment stuck at the customer center in Germany. I hope that I will receive it this week.
I already got mine here in germany! Any ideas for gaining root?
Have you tried Framaroot?
yes, unfortunately its not working.
Tried: Framaroot, SRSRoot, Saferoot, iRoot, OneClickRoot, Eroot, Root Kit.
OneClickRoot submitted some data, maybe they can work something out?!
I will try to root it if I receive my phone. I have googled for ZTE Blade S6 root and the result was an instruction to Eroot.
